So, I didn't think the place looked like a restaurant from the Brady Bunch show. Maybe they did some remodeling, but it looks pretty typical. The strip mall to which it is connected.... well, that is looking very 70s.
I had the eggs benedict a la park. I've never had eggs benedict with grilled polenta, but it was really good. The do have enormous plates, so the price to quantity ratio is good.
The staff was on top of everything despite the chaotic nature of a Sunday morning crowd. I'd definitely give this a try, and it isn't too far off 880 that you have to deal with the stop and go of Fremont traffic.
5 Star for their Eggs Benedict! Best I ever had!
Everything else is very good in portion and consistent.
I get quiet when I go there because I am busy stuffing my face! YES IT IS THIS GOOD! I will throw in the word " FOODGASM" here ..
What a "Greasy Spoon" is supposed to be!
Firstly, be aware this place can get hopping. It's environment is the typical American "greasy spoon." The decore is 1970s and comfortable. Service seemed to take a bit, but it was VERY busy. Also, conversation can be a challenge as one will need to talk louder than normal because the crouds.
The food: YUM! I ordered crounty fried steak and eggs. My favourite and how I rate a restaurent. The country gravy was perfect and had the bacon bits in it that it is supposed to have. Eggs were done correctly: over easy. No runny eggs white. These people do not skimp on proportions so be ready to eat.
Would I come back? Yes. I live in Oakland and would make the sojourn to Fremont just for the country fried steak eggs. My partner ordered a pork sandwhich and there was nothing left on his plate. if one wants good American comfort food, this is the place.
We tried this for the first time this morning. We were at first hesitant to go in, since it looked like maybe half of it was a pool hall or something with smudgy fingerprints on the windows. Didn't give us the best first impression with its tired looking exterior. When we went inside, it didn't look much more welcoming. The decor could definitely use a lot of freshening up - more than just adding a couple more jars of never-to-be-opened food items on display between the booths.
When we got our coffees, both cups had coffee on the exterior of the cups - as if the coffee was in some kind of coffee shower. How hard is it to get coffee on the *inside* of the cup, I wondered.
But all reservations melted away when the food came out. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and opted for ham. I asked for the hollandaise sauce on the side, since I've had too much experience with hollandaise sauce I don't like to risk having them smother my plate in the stuff before I try it. I actually thought the hollandaise sauce was quite good - it was flavorful without being too rich or heavy. But I didn't end up using it much, because my meal was just about perfect without it.
It was an unusual take on Eggs Benny, with some variation of cornbread instead of english muffins and with a layer of spinach and tomatoes on top of that, with the fried ham and poached eggs. It was a unique but very tasty combination. It came with a side order of fruit and a huge brick of banana bread. I ended up only being able to eat a few bites of the fruit and took the banana bread home, without touching it - because the rest of my meal was so huge.
The waitress refilled our coffee cups often and provided really good service, my original complaint about the wet coffee drenched coffee cups notwithstanding.
All in all - I felt like the decor and the atmosphere would give it only a 2.5 or maybe a 2 - but the food is easily a 4 or a 4.5. If they remodeled and revamped the decor - this could be a 5 star breakfast place, if they kept the same cook. I'm giving it a 4-star rating, since I don't care nearly as much about the decor as I do about the food itself.
But I do wish they would remodel! The fact that everything is so old gives the false impression that everything is not clean or well cared for. When you go into the bathroom, you get hit with the overwhelming smell of bleach. The bathrooms are obviously clean, but everything is so old and run down - that it doesn't look very neat. Also, the toilets in the women's restroom don't work very well - which is a bit of an inconvenience that probably leads to the bathrooms getting pretty horrid in short order (if you have to flush three or four times for the toilet to work and have to wait for the tank to fill up, you can bet there are probably plenty of people who won't be that patient!) - that's something they need to fix right away, regardless if they ever remodel or not! But I can tell they make an effort in the cleanliness department, but there are only so many times when you can scrub a twenty-year-old plastic surface before it just looks grubby no matter what you do.
So bottom line - the place isn't much to look at, but they serve a decent breakfast!
Oh boy I hate to give a bad review to a small business unless it really deserves it. Cabrillo park cafe isn't horrible, but it is pretty bad. I go out often, taking my family out most every week. I take spending my money seriously and I want a good product. I am a big believer in small business and I like to feel good about handing my money to a small business. There are restaurants in town that I feel good giving them my money, this isn't one of them. The last time I went in there was the LAST time I will go in there.
I had just had my hair cut at a nearby barber shop (been going there for 50 years) and it was late so I thought, what the heck let's give it another try.
I sat down with the family and soon realized it was SILENT, there wasn't a sound in the place! No music, no talking, there were plenty of people there but it sounded like an empty garage! It was so odd, my wife and I spoke in this whisper as to not be heard by people in the surrounding tables! It was VERY odd to say the least.
As I sat there in silence I was looking around and noticed that nearly every light hanging over tables had a different style bulb in it, again just kinda funky. The guy who came up to refill my coffee had a FILTHY "white" apron on, he looked like he had been washing dishes all day, it was gross!
Nope, sorry, again, there are MUCH nicer places I will go to leave my money.
Rehab Sundays! After a whirlwind Saturday night, you'll find me here for my first meal of the day around 3pm.
You can spot me with my sunglasses on and in my post party hottie jump suit noshing on my 'Usual' - egg benedicts served on polenta and topped with red pepper hollandaise sauce served with fresh fruit topped yogurt and a slice of THE BEST warm banana bread.
Everything else on the menu is tasty, too.
After a few silent bites of food, my sunglasses come off and I am ready to check out the fun photos taken on my digital camera documenting another party hard Saturday night.
Note: This place gets packed between 11:30 am - 1pm. Get here early to get a seat. (Yes, I do come here when I'm not rehabbing.)
Enjoyed brunch here with the fam. We were all happy with our orders. I had the Benedict a la Park with ham and spinach. OMG! Yum! Instead of English muffins, the ham and eggs were placed on top of polenta. And the hollandaise sauce was deeelicious. You can de-clog your arteries with the accompanying cup of fresh fruit topped with yogurt. :)
Hubby enjoyed his country fried steak. Our picky-eater daughter got spoiled on this day and got a side order of bacon (4 huge pieces) with a side order of fries (big portion). Hubby and I also split a short-stack of pancakes - light and fluffy. Coffee was eh.
Overall, we were impressed with the food and would come back for it again. Service was friendly and sufficiently efficient. Location is a bit sketchy but we don't plan on patronizing it during off hours. :)
This restaurant is old and seems kind of dirty.
There wasn't much of a selection and the service was really bad.
I ordered an omelette and it was super greasy and burned around the edges..I probably could've done better and I am a horrible cook.
It's a small restaurant yet our server rarely stopped by to see how we were doing.. I went there twice to give them a second chance, but I won't waste my time going back.
I'd probably just go to Country Way ..at least I know I'll get a good breakfast! :)
Brought a large group (N=14) here to eat brunch, so we got a good statistical sampling of the entrees.
Our findings:
Breakfast item satisfaction (84%) was significantly (P less than 0.01) greater than lunch item satisfaction (37%). Statistically overrepresented terms used to describe lunch items included "hospital food", "bland", and "tasteless". Enriched terms for breakfast items included "delicious", "spicy", and "I can't believe I ate that whole huge plate of food, what the hell is wrong with me?"
Study participants who had recently imbibed alcohol within the last 24 hours rated food more highly (4.5 stars) than teetotalers (3 stars).
Quick service, excellent food. The chicken apple sausage eggs benedict (with polenta) sounds strange, but is delicious. Though this is a few minutes farther drive than Country Way, it's less expensive, less crowded, and more consistently delicious. It's like diner food here, except with options for less grease, if you're inclined.
Problem in Fremont is that there aren't any truly good breakfast places. So you've got; Dino's, Dina's, This place, Dennys, Country Way (yuck!), Nation's (too crowded and too greasy) and a few others that I can't think of.
The menu has a lot of mexican influence which I like.
Extremely crowded on Sunday Mornings, which I don't like.
Food comes out hot and fast.
Something for everyone on the menu.
Don't like the fruit with the pink yogurt on top that comes on the side of any breakfast.
If there was more of a selection for breakfast spots, wouldn't continue coming to this place....
They have great cheese burgers (very filling) and salads (nice and simple)
I really like the people who work there. They're all extremely friendly and are always in a good mood. I recommended this place for lunch =]
Um, I can't believe Yelp sent us here.
This place was so-so. Prices neither cheap nor expensive, menu neither sparse nor elaborate, quality neither bad nor impressive. A greasy spoon with generous portions, the expected menu, outdated decor, and the portly waitress who calls you "hon."
We would come here again if we had to, but it will definitely not become a habit, and isn't worth going out of your way for.
Cabrillo Park Cafe has become our go-to place for breakfast. I love their scrambles, reminds me of Hobee's. Look for these under their category "Potato Pancake Breakfasts." The one I'm addicted to is with Chicken Apple Sausage. You get a large potato pancake with sour cream, home fries or hashbrown, and a huge serving of scrambled eggs with spinach, chicken apple sausage and cheese (white and yellow). This breakfast is more than I can eat and every bite is scrumptious! It also comes with an uninspiring cinnamon croissant (it's OK). I usually just don't eat the potatoes and still walk out stuffed and happy!
Hubby has had steak and eggs the last two times and the steaks are delicious! Last Sunday, the steak was called a "culotte" steak and it tasted like it had been cooked over an open fire - absolutely delicious. It was so good that his eyes got big after the first bite; he immediately cut a piece for me and he said, "here, taste this!!" Wow!
The service is excellent, great food, very reasonable prices. The only drawback is the old, beat-up shopping center location in an area that I'd stay out of late at night. Still, this is not a concern for breakfast or lunch or even an early-ish dinner and the food is a real tummy pleaser!!

OH EM GEE! Did I die and end up in breakfast heaven? If its not heaven, I know for sure its at least the best breakfast in Fremont.
Cabrillo looks SUPER jankie on when you are pulling up to it but don't let that scare you. Cabrillo looks SUPER dirty when walking in but don't let that turn you away. Cabrillo's coffee mugs look SUPER stained but don't... well they are super stained. WHATEVER!!!!
Cabrillo is everything thing you need in a really good breakfast spot. If you go on a weekend and there's a long wait - JUST WAIT. They get people in and out pretty fast and the food is so worth it.
For down home no frills cooking, they get really creative. No other non fancy breakfast place puts Bleu Cheese on their omeletts. All the variations on Eggs Benedict are awesome.
The portion sizes are COCONUTS! I always leave stuffed.
My only knock on Cabrillo is that I found a 6 inch hair in my food once. I understand sometimes it happen though. - ZERO Stars =)
I have changed my eating patterns due to Yelp. I used to be happy finding new restaurants every once in a while but stick to my regulars. Now thanks to Yelp, I use every opportunity to find a new restaurant which is kinda fun actually. I had to grab breakfast outside this morning and looked up Yelp and found this place. The place, as other reviewers had warned, is not much to look at. The inside is better than the outside even though it was a little dingy. Service was diner efficient. The eggs Benedict was pretty good. Came up fresh fruit and yoghurt which was good. I prefer Country Way and Baldie's in the area but would not mind eating here again.
Huge portions (easily 2 meals worth) at reasonable prices.
The food can be as heart-friendly or as heart-attack-inducing as you want it to be. Just order a lower-fat menu item (yes, they ARE there) and have a side of fruit instead of a side of hash browns if you've got to watch your cholesterol level.
This restaurant is a refreshing change from the chain restaurants, with their uninspired menus and waiters who are required to give you a scripted greeting when you arrive ("hi, welcome to XXX. My name is YYY and I'll be serving you today. Would you like to start off with an appetizer of ZZZZ?").
The place is simple, unpretentious, and very effective in doing what a restaurant should do: fill you up without emptying your wallet. The service is fast and effective. I usually go on Sundays, when the place is jammed. Despite this, I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes for a table, the food has never taken more than 10 minutes to arrive, and my coffee cup has always been topped off before it's empty.
If you're looking for novel cuisine, modern decor, or a place that's trendy, then this restaurant is definitely NOT for you. The restaurant caters to locals and the food is classic American stuff and it doesn't pretend to be anything else.
Another poster correctly pointed out that it's in a very unassuming shopping center, and not very well-marked. If you're not careful, you can drive right by it without even noticing.
My only complaint: I sometimes have to request that my table receive a second wiping (often with a fresh rag). There have been a couple of times when I've put my elbows on the table (manners? schmanners!), only to have them stick to the table. Icky.
can't believe the high rating.
low quality -- didn't use real eggs, tiny frozen shrimps, dried-to-the bone banana bread, partially fried hash browns, not worth it.
went here last Friday morning. Place was pretty busy but we got seated rather quickly for a party of 5. The food and the service was bomb diggidy!!! The choices were good, the pricing was decent and the service was great. I really can't believe some of the snivelers on here. I find it hard to believe I guess I should say. Our coffee was never half empty. Our food was out within 10 minutes and it was yummy!! I had the french toast. I had to ask if they used butter or margarine because i won't order pancakes or french toast unless the place uses real butter. and they did. (two more points). It has the appeal of a mom and pop diner. Nothing fancy, but family friendly. I will drive from Hayward to Fremont to have breakfast there again, NO DOUBT! I think I will try their lunch menu next.. the guy next to us got a burger. It looked really good and he left nothing on his plate.
What? Really? This place is good? I can't tell you how many times I have driven by this place and never batted an eye. But, based on the reviews here, I couldn't help but step inside at least once.
It's a nice diner/ "mama's cafe" on the inside. The servers and hostesses were very nice and almost overly attentive (they kept asking me if I wanted coffee and that was after I'd only had 2 sips... haha). The food I had was a bit bland but tasty enough. I'll come here again and I think I'll bring friends with me next time.
Don't blink when you go down Thornton. It's easy to miss! It's in an unassuming shopping center.
I came here the other day for breakfast and it was alright until I got to the toast. I think they used mayonnaise instead of butter. It was a whitish substance that made the toast taste like crap...........Damn I really really hope it was Mayo.

Don't know how many times I've been here since my first but I'm never disappointed. Always leave FULL and HAPPY.
BREAKFAST is the main food to get here!
To all the people saying run-down cafe, get over it! I'm coming to eat down and dirty with breakfast not have a candle light event. I'll go to SF for that.
The area is not bad at all. Right off the freeway, easy access.
* not sure if they serve breakfast all day, call first. *

Walked in and memories of a mom n pop denny's come into mind. Seems Latin run, they have beer available, and don't seem too busy. I came around 1:15pm they had some patrons at a few tables. Ordered the town meal: scrambled eggs with a variety of veggies and a side of fruit and banana bread for $9.25. Not exactly a deal especially for a breakfast meal. My first thought when they came out with my dish was, "ew, WTF is that?..." but it didn't tast as bad as it looked... So 3.5 on taste, 2 on looks maybe even a 1.5 as it looked all mushed together and the eggs were fairly brown (indications that the stove was greasy, which I'm indifferent to). It was nothing exciting as I could have just made it at home, oh well. Portions are on the smaller side. I find no delicious smell coming from the kitchen so no point there either. When it comes down to it, -1 star on presentation of food, -2 on being overpriced for The quality and type of food they were serving, your located in the cheap side of town... Don't overprice your food! I kno it's a recession, but that's just not good.
I'm not likely to come as there's really nothing that stands out about the place.
I love having breakfast on weekday mornings. There's hardly anyone there so you don't feel rushed and you can just sit there and chat all you like.
After seeing Yelpers' pics of the eggs benedict, I had to get it. There are 3 combinations you can get it with but mine included chicken apple sausage, spinach, and tomatoes. Their eggs benedict is different because it's on polenta, not an English muffin. You really have to like polenta and cornmeal to enjoy this because it's very apparent. The description said the sauce was red pepper hollaindaise but I didn't notice any red pepper in sight or in taste. One of the two eggs was already runny by the time the plate got to our table. The chicken apple sausage was smaller than I expected but you get 3 pieces... not as good as the plump kind! Sides contain a cup of fruit topped with yogurt and a thick slice of banana bread which was dry. I didn't care for either too much except the yogurt was delightfully sweet with the fruit.
My friend and I also split a half order of french toast (2 slices cut in halves). The french toast was regular... nothing jumped out at me but it wasn't terrible either. I wish there was more egg to it because the bread was a bit dry. All this food was actually enough for us. It was very heavy. Total was $14.
Despite the weekday emptiness, the decor was a little drab and not too homey. However, our waitress was sufficiently friendly from the moment we walked in. I thought this place was good for a local joint but Country Way off Mowry Ave. has a slight advantage in my opinion.
I was on my way to pick up breakfast before our trip to Disneyland and was heading for Country Way. I was thinking about what I want while on the freeway and ended up missing the exit so I decided to just go try Cabrillo Park rather than making a huge complicated U-turn to get back on Mowry Ave.
Cabrillo park is in a beat-down looking stripmall. The inside of the restaurant is okay; its nothing too bad. Its very simple, a little outdated but its clean.
They have a pretty interesting selection for breakfast and I decided to pick up a carnitas omelet (sounds interesting and nothing I've seen at a menu before). It didnt take long for my order to come out. The staff was pretty friendly.
So I took to my boyfriend's house to eat while waiting to leave. The omelet's size is not as big as other places I've gone to but still a good portion. The Carnitas omelet comes with carnitas (shredded pork), salsa, onions, avocado and sour cream. It comes with your choice of home fries or hash browns and toast.
The Omelet was pretty tasty; the carnitas was flavorful and tender. Its just a little bit on the not-so-shredded side. The home fries were pretty good. I kinda like that its a little bit on the toasty side.
The food is pretty good but its not something I can say "oh yeah I'm gonna go back and get that over and over". I might, but I might not--hence the 3 star. We'll see, if I come back and try other stuff then an update will be coming.
If I can sum this place into one word it would be, "DEPRESSING".
This place reminds me of a neglected Carrows/Dennys. It's freakishly dark inside and desolate. Don't get me wrong, I love love love diners and cafes that keep it real and keep it old school, but there's a fine line between vintage and broken down.
I ordered the Chicken Picatta meal and it tasted like hospital food. Really bland and dry. The steamed vegetables were undercooked but the baked potato was satisfactory. The chicken noodle soup was more like a chili consistency which was not fond of.
Majority of customers here are seniors and I'm assuming they are regulars. Service is mediocre and dull. I doubt that I'll be coming back here anytime soon.
I am big breakfast guy, so I finally come here for some breaky love after reading all of the great reviews. And I have to say WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??? I had the country fried steak, with eggs and some hash browns. First I was told that they were out of the breakfast size steaks,it would be a dollar or two extra for the bigger ones, sure whatever I can eat. When the chicken fried steak came it was flavorless, the crust on the fried steak was not even a crust, the eggs were okay, the hash browns were nothing special, the toast was crap and altogether I will not come back here. The Country Way is way better than this place.
I was craving Eggs Benedict. Cabrillo Park Cafe answered.
I got it with portabello mushrooms, artichoke hearts, and tomato - yum!!! However it came on polenta (mashed cornmeal pancake) - I think I still prefer it on a english muffin (which you can request) but I wanted to try the polenta. The polenta made it too greasy and didn't sufficiently soak up the yolks of the poached eggs.
What I appreciated though was that it came with sides of fresh fruit (with a dollop of yogurt + cool whip!!!) and a slice of banana nut bread (mmm!) and not the usual huge mass of greasy hash browns.
A pleasant surprise of a cafe in a shady strip mall area. Left with tummy full and happy.
Its much nicer in the inside, it look a littel ghetto from the outside but go insideand you wont be dissapointed. Personally, i would prefer country way rather than cabrillo park, but its still a good breakfast joint. I ordered teh cornbeef hash, which was pretty good and my friend got the ham and cheese omelette. The portions are just right for one person, while country way's portions are maybe double the size. And theyre the same price.
I would try this place again.
Love this place. The wait staff must all be related because they all look the same.
Very good prices. Very good service. Dunno about this place for dinner -- so this review is for the dozens of breakfasts I've had here over the years.
The Denver's always good. The hash browns are good -- the home fries are better. Getting it made with egg whites aren't a problem. When ordering the toast, tell them to serve it dry -- otherwise, you might wind up with waaaay too much butter on it.
This place will never win a Michelin star -- but you know what? It's way, way, way better than breakfast joints like Judy's and Bechelli's in the City -- and doesn't cost nearly as much.
Came for breakfast/brunch on a weekday morning. It's in a bit of a desolate strip mall, but inside the atmosphere is amiable enough.
Coffee is your typical diner coffee--about on par with Dino's. Wasn't too busy when we came, so service was pretty decent. Nothing special, nothing jumps out. There were about 5 of us here, all ordered different things, but I think the main thing to be said is that you could get better _____ (fill in the blank with your own favorite brunch food here) at _____ some place else. Prices are cheap though, so it's not a bad alternative if you're sick of the Dino's, Country Way options.
Don't know about lunch or dinner.
I recently wandered into this restaurant for breakfast after reading the reviews here. I was impressed.
I went about mid-morning on a weekday (Thursday) and there were only a couple of other diners. This place is in a run-down strip mall, but I didn't find the neighborhood nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be from some of the other reviews.
The service was fast and efficient. The young lady who waited on me answered my questions, took my order, and managed to get my drink right. (Iced tea, NO lemon, and a glass of water.) My meal arrived promptly, and the server kept my iced tea and water filled. As far as I am concerned, if the ice tea is good, and they keep my glass filled, they get 3 stars just for that.
I ordered the chicken fried steak and a potato pancake. The chicken fried steak was large, covered in delicious gravy, and I had a side of country fried potatoes and biscuits & gravy. Yum! The steak was done perfectly, and was a real steak -- not some 'steakette" patty that many restaurants use. The biscuits were very good, but my grandma's were much much better. However, they went exceptionally well with the gravy and I really enjoyed them. The potato pancake was NOT a potato pancake. Being Russian by heritage, I was expecting something like a deruny or draniki. But, it was a bunch of hasbrows fried together with onions and peppers, with sour cream on top. It was good, but its not really a potato pancake, unless you count the size.
All in all, I was very pleased. I intend to have breakfast here again very soon (like when I get off here, get some clothes on, and try to remember where on earth I parked the car.)
My 2nd visit here.
The interior of this place is a bit dark inside and needed a face-lift. The restaurant is also located at a ghetto looking abandoned strip mall. However, the service makes up for it.
I ordered the Carnitas omelet (marinated shredded pork that's used for Mexican cuisine, cheese, peppers) I had it with home fries (huge chunks of red potatoes, onions, green and red bell peppers and seasoned) and toast. My dad had a scramble with apple sausage with potato pancakes (they were ok).
When my dad paid with his credit card, it show the suggested tips on the merchant copy. My dad felt offended that they showed that. To me, I don't care. In a way it's useful if you have no idea how much to put as a tip. I told him don't that it personal.
quite a trip to come all the way from oakland to fremont for breakfast but wanted to try someplace new and just happened to find this place...
had some eggs benedict which was tasty but i don't think i'd make a special trip just to come and have breakfast... maybe if there was another reason to go down this way....
i'm sure there's great eggs benedict in oakland too :)
Thank you following yelpers! Since the reviews of this place was pretty good, my boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try. We were definitely impressed. I tried a potato pancake for the first time (why not? it's only another dollar in addition to what we ordered) and it was delicious! The prices are really reasonable also. We shared a corn beef hash plate and it came with hash browns and eggs. All of that for about $7.50.
I wish the coffee tasted a little bit better, but at least it wasn't like water. It would have been nice if they had more people serving, because it seems like everyone was running around in a rush and we had to flag down someone just to order and get the bill.
Great food here. Their breakfast items are nothing out of the ordinary, but they offer a good early bird special. The item that I like a lot is the breakfast burrito. It's really good, especially with the Cholua hot sauce they have on the table. Nothing like sausage, eggs, and hash browns rolled up into a tortilla. The burrito comes with a fruit cup dressed with yogurt. Personally, I can do without the yogurt. Quite refreshing to have after all the heavy food.
The staff here is friendly and very attentive. Very accommodating and everything is done with a smile.
I've been here a few times, but Country Way still has a place in my heart (and my arteries).
Bobby, Farm, Dianne and I came here for breakfast at 11am on a early saturday morning and it didn't seem like anything from the outside but once I walked in, it felt like a cozy diner. I was impressed by all the customers inside and the food that everyone had on their tables looked yummy. I was satisfied with the pancakes, hash browns, carnitas omelet...it was delish! I also had the orange juice and it tasted like hospital orange juice which I did not like at all. I like fresh or something like it.
I've breakfast'd here numerous times, even going back to say 4-5 years ago and have always thought the food was okay to solid. But on my last visit, I tried something that was so good, I'd probably come back for this, thus solidifying my 4 stars.
It was their version of an eggs benedict, though they have their variations (with or without meat). They use poached eggs and hollandaise sauce but their base is polenta, which I found to be quite good. Their hollandaise is even a "red pepper hollandaise" though I didn't really get that flavor. I chose the veggie one with baby spinach, tomatoes and portabello mushrooms and everything was fresh and vibrant. I also tried a ham steak on the side and it was of good quality. And for something like $8, you also get a cup of fresh fruit with vanilla yogurt and a warm banana nut bread.
Next time I order this, I will ask for a small to-go box right off the bat to put that banana bread in b/c not only can I not pack away that much food but also it would make for a nice treat for another time. My only knock on the place is that it is a little grungy, like it needs a little make-over, maybe some new carpet or tiles or something. And when it gets busy there it can get a little haggard looking. But all in all, I'd be back.
Came here on the ratings from yelp. I won't say I'm disappointed but I am giving it 3 stars overall. Here's my breakdown:
Friendly staff - 5 stars.
Great homey feel, I believe it is family-owned. With that said, the food was disappointing for a homey restaurant. Maybe the chef loves watching cooking shows....
My eggs benedict was served over polenta, with tomato slices btw the egg an polenta. That is not what I expected to see on the menu. I thought I'd try it and it wasn't successful. I guess I prefer mine traditional, over an english muffin. I had chicken apple as my meat, plenty as they served 3. Came with banana bread....good and also with a fruit cup. The cup was chilled, which was yet another surprise but a good one. The fruit was topped with a small dallop of yogurt. My meal gets a low 3.
The mrs. had corned beef hash with a scramble of mushrooms and spinach. The scramble was luke warm. The corned beef hash was a rather small portion. Smallest in any establishment that serves breakfast that we've patroned. Also came with fruit. A low 3 star for warm food and small portion of meat.
Seeing that food weighs the heaviest, it gets a 3. Maybe just a fluke on the hash scramble. the eggs benedict is definitely original but it's not for my taste buds.
Have you ever had the kitchen staff at a restaurant peek their head out from the kitchen to see who the crazy patron is that ordered enough food to feed the population of Lichtenstein (7th smallest population in the world - I checked)?
Yeah, me either. Till today.
A few friends and I decided to head here for brunch after a long, arduous, and painfully sober evening - the whole daylight savings thing threw us off so our stomachs were an hour ahead of us. It was noon but felt like 1pm. We were seated in a roomy booth, and quickly got served coffee and juice. After perusing the menu, which had so many delicious-sounding choices on it, we finally decided on what we were ordering:
Gluttonous Fool #1: Crab sandwich with fries, side of chicken-fried steak with gravy.
Avid Overeater #2: Eggs Benedict with polenta (instead of English muffin) with avocado, fruit cup, banana bread, and a side of corned beef hash.
Overindulgent Epicurean #3: Chicken-apple sausage Eggs Benedict with a fruit cup and banana bread.
Binge-tastic Diner #4: Seafood omelette (specifically requested with egg whites) with avocado, a side of Hollandaise sauce, hash browns, and sourdough toast.
The food came quickly and in excessively large portions...we never had to ask for refills on coffee or water, because the servers were constantly coming around to check on us. Our table, which I initially thought to be spacious, was crowded with plates, drinks, seven different bottles of condiments, creamer, and a basket of jelly. Not to worry though, we were able to stack our plates because we finished EVERY. LAST. BITE.
The damage to our wallets? $59.00.
The damage we did on our food? Priceless.
PS: It is 5:30pm and I cannot even THINK of eating right now.
PPS. It is midnight and I am still full. This is like three meals in one!!
