It's a freakishly large sporting goods juggernaut. Good if you're into that kind of thing. I'm actually not but it's a nifty place to look around at least once. There's a massive fish tank/cave in the center and a gun library. I wanted to check out the latter but my friends did not. Shucks.
I mean, c'mon, it's a gun library! Makes me wonder what a gun librarian would look like.
There's a little fudge and snack shop on the first floor. Try those sugary roasted nuts. They'se good.
Oh. My. Goodness. The new Cabela's across from Rentschler Field in East Hartford is freaking amazing, if you like the outdoors. First of all, it is huge. Enormous. Gargantuan. They have fishing supplies...and boats. They have guns and bows...and an archery range (real) and shooting range (fake). They have clothes and housewares and footwear and silk camo nightgowns. There is a huge "mountain" in the middle of the store full of various big game animals (stuffed). Inside the mountain is an aquarium stocked with local fish. It's the Cabela's catalog come to life. Of course I'm not stepping foot anywhere near the place until well after Christmas, but if you're stuck in traffic on I-84, hop off exit 58 and spend some time at Cabela's. They even have a cafeteria style restaurant where you can grab a BLT or burger (beef, bison, emu, pick your meat) and there are bags of beef jerky in pretty much every section of the store.
If you like the outdoors, you won't be disappointed with a trip to Cabela's
