Neighborhoods: Old Town, DowntownWith a $3 cover charge how can you go wrong? At first glance, this is a below average club, but when you create the right atmosphere, it becomes a whole different world. Like always, there are times when you ask yourself, "what will $100 buy me?" In Portland, it can buy you 4 girls on the stage emasculating your bachelor friend for 3 songs. Thanks to some careful negotiating by my buddy, $100 bought a memorable moment for my friend's bachelordom. Anyway, I won't describe all that happened, but let's just say there were 3 or 4 belts involved, a human see saw and some uncomfortable dancing. Anyway, needless to say, for 10 minutes, everyone in the club had a great time or at least a good laugh.

Closest thing to a traditional "strip club" I have been to in downtown portland - glitter, bad music, bad dancers, over priced drinks. You would be better served going to Mary's or Magic Garden IMHO.
Just looking at the exterior of Cabaret makes me cringe. You know those kind of establishments that look like you'd wake up with some kind of sickness the following morning if you simply walked in? That's how Cabaret appears to me.
I've been twice and both occasions were on account of a huge group of friends who exclaimed "It's time to go to Cabaret"! They've continued to go and I've been successful in deviating from those plans. The stories they continue to tell about their experiences however never cease to make me laugh.
Visit #1: While everyone was busy blowing through their stack of ones, my friend Slo and I sat at the bar drinking screwdrivers, mouthing the words to Hustler Musik by Lil'Wayne, facing the bar back as to not be bothered with the pesky "Want a dance?" questionnaire by dancers who were creeping around like wolves over fresh carrion.
It's well known that Chuck S. is glued to his phone when he goes out. I don't know who in the hell texts him non-stop but you can bet that if he's out and you can't find him that it won't take more than a glance or two around the room to locate his excited face illuminated by blue cell phone light. I turned to see where he wandered off this time and while doing so was nicely complimented by a dancer who simply paused, stated, "You have pretty eyes" and kept walking. Green eyes with a dark ring around them for the win.
Visit #2: Paid the cover, strolled in, said "why in the hell are we here?" walked out.
Story #1: A dancer (come to think of it... is stripper not PC?) gave my friend Vince her number. When he asked her about her life she said that she's 28, single and has two kids. He said, "That's cool", to which she replied, "No, it isn't." HAHA!
Story #2: A week or so ago, that same guy gets 86'd for good from Cabaret for a number of reasons. Once outside he asks the bouncer, "Can I at least get a reason why I can't come back?" "Because you're an ass!" is the response. Classic!

First off, I have to say I had high hopes for this place as one of the only multi stage strip clubs downtown. Mary's and Magic Gardens have their charms, but there is only one stage and they are more a dive bar with strippers than a true strip club.
It was some sort of stripper contest night the night we were there and so there were more girls than usual which was kind of fun. However, some seemed pretty unprepared so the dancing was a bit, shall we say uninspired.
The inside is long and thin and can be a pain to push through a crowd. We found seats near the back. Plenty of places to sit without being right at the rack.
Dance floors are set at chest level so if you are looking straight ahead you are looking at the dancers feet. Not my favorite type of set up. One girl glommed onto my friend and sat their chatting with him, hoping to pressure him into getting a private dance, but other than that none of the other girls were too aggressive on the VIP stuff which was nice. Waitress was nice and came by frequently.
Two stages with a stripping "cage" in the middle. Dancers were just OK in their routines and stuff. Overall, the place was just kind of ok...
