Review Highlights
A friend of mine who loved this place took me here on a random weekday evening (Wednesday i think). We found street parking really easily, and when we entered the doors at around 8pm or so, the place was pretty quiet. We chose to sit outside, which had a very enchanting atmosphere. Here, I noticed a lot of dates happening around me, but i didn't feel awkward at all since the tables were pretty far from each other. Lots of breathing room...
First of all, they gave free bread and that crushed olives and oil dip. I always give an extra star for restaurants that give free things! :)
For an appetizer, my friend chose for us to share a caprese salad. I usually don't like cheese anything because I'm lactose intolerant, but my buddy warned me to take my pills because it was worth it. After my first bite of the salad, i was hooked. We were fighting for the mozzarella with our forks, and in a few minutes it was all gone.
For dinner it was tough to choose what meal i wanted. I heeded the warnings of other yelpers with the food portions, as well as my friend's mom who had to order two of her meals. I originally asked for the Ossobuco, but my waiter told me it was a small portioned meal, so i then asked for the risotto with shrimp and garlic. I was first scared that i was going to be real hungry after this meal, but when the waiter brought out this nice sized pot of risotto, i was relieved.
While working on my food, i noticed that they didn't skimp on anything. The flavor was amazing, there was a lot of shrimp, and the whole garlic chunks were so sweet and delicious. It was absolutely the best risotto I've ever had! YUM!!! The next day i had dreams about the risotto, it was that serious.
To sum it up, i would definitely go back here again. It's a little pricey to go every week, but for the atmosphere and the food, i think it's totally worth it.
I asked the gay boyfriend how would he review this place. The following are all his quotes:
"Valet parking? Do you have cash?"
"Oh look, there's a spot on the street."
"Yes, it's loading only but you can park there after 7 p.m."
"Where are we sitting? Why are they taking us so far into the restaurant?"
"Oh, we get a big table!"
"I want a salad. How big are they? Oh, they look like a good size. The artichoke one looks good."
I say something about not knowing how raw artichokes would taste.
"Okay, I'll get the other salad then." They have about 6 different salads. I didn't think for $8 it was a big enough portion but he seemed happy with it.
"I'll also have fish. Hm, salmon or ahi?" He ended up ordering the ahi, just seared as he likes it that way.
I, however, ordered the four-course meal for $31. I got the scallops appetizer which was four scallops (tiny ones!) still in the shell with a pretty good garlic-y tomato sauce. I also had a veal pappardelle pasta, pancetta wrapped black cod on a bed of lentils and the grappa grapes dessert. The server was nice and gave the gay boyfriend his own grappa grapes dessert which he loves as he loves grapes.
I liked the pasta but felt the fish with the lentils was SO small. Then again, I did get four courses so each course was appropriate for the course. The grappa was a bit overwhelming for me but I enjoyed the sorbet.
Service was good though they had to keep refilling our drinks because the glasses are so small. The gay boyfriend would like me to note the size of the glasses are so small he confused the salt shaker with the glass at some point.
We got there at 7:30 for our reservations and didn't leave until after 9. It took a while to get all the food and if we weren't in a rush to go to a movie, it wouldn't have seemed so painful. The comments coming from the gay boyfriend were:
"I'm so hungry." - said in his normal voice
"hungry." - said in a peeved voice
"h u n g r y"- said in a whiny voice
I'd probably recommend not ordering multiple courses if your dining partner only got two. Still, while the food was good, we probably won't be rushing back here anytime soon. Maybe for brunch though.
And finally when asked how many stars he'd give it, he said, "Three!"
So there you go!
I went here for a wedding a long time ago, and once before that for another catered event, so this was my first time as an actual paying customer, so I really was curious as to how an entire meal off the menu would be. I have to say, dang good!
We sat outside under one of the cabanas, which really was nice. The weather had just cooled enough, so we were very comfortable out there.
We started with the Frito Misto and Caprese Salad. The calamari was very nice, nice and light. The Caprese was amazing, I flippin' love that burrata cheese they used. Mmmmm.
I had the Ossobuco (I think I order that anytime I see it on the menu) and it was wonderful. The veal was nice and tender and the sauce was really tasty, loved the lemon zest. Hubby had the pumpkin ravioli, which he said he enjoyed, but I didn't taste it.
We had the Affogato (vanilla bean ice cream with the espresso), man was that good.
The service was great. Our server, Porfirio, was wonderful. He laughed at all of my jokes, which shows his great sense of humor...
Okay, best part, we used a gift certificate I bought on http://restaurant.com which we bought at a discount. Love that http://restaurant.com (and if you are a upromise member they do serious discounts regularly).
As a paying customer, I'll be back!
Great place for the money... nice patio.
Ca' Del Sole at the bat...
Not only do you need to grab a spot on the patio, but you need to request a cabana as well. The asshole on the phone didn't tell me that when I called a week ago in order to secure "their finest outdoor table." Strike One.
When I arrived with my dime piece in tow, they tried to seat us at the "baby in the corner" table under a tree that was dropping leaves and dry berry shit all over creation. I told them to stick it up their asses and after a short wait, they moved us into a cabana, which was much better. Ball One.
Not only was the cabana more private, but we also got to sit a little bit closer to the ocean; and nothing sets the mood for a romantic dinner like the roar of the sea ebbing and flowing behind you as you dine under the stars. Only thing is, the ocean is nowhere near this place and that tidal roar you hear is the ebb and flow of traffic on the concrete waters of Cahuenga. Let your imagination take the wheel and you'll also hear the fog horns of passing ships and the wailing sirens of the mermaid-like Sirens of sailor lore. Strike Two.
Our server was an old, out of shape Latino - a little winded and not exactly Julio INGLES. I had to bust out the Spanglish in order to move things along but I can't imagine that any of the gavachos at the other tables were moving with such fluidity. Ball Two, just outside.
The food was well-priced and well-prepared, but not well-rounded. The customary razor thin slices of Prosciutto came in small numbers and the Quail was the size of a canary, but still damn delectable. Ball Three. Full Count.
The final pitch was the exit. We paid the slightly inflated check, but found that valet was only $3.50, which is a fortune less than the average Hollywood lot. Ball Four, take your base.
All in all, the place is a walk. No strikeout. No homerun. Just a base on balls. Batter up!
I like Ca' Del Sole for many reasons and here are a few:
1. You can order rabbit which I've only eaten in Italy before (I hope it's still on the menu.)
2. The flour-less chocolate cake is the best dessert ever. It is the most rich, dense chocolate confection ever. I recommend you split it with your date.
3. Eat outside which is on a large brick patio that has trees growing through it as well as a large wall that completely blocks out view of traffic.
I saw this restaurant on Blind Date so it must be good...jk. Actually, I've been here at least 4 times and it's been really good every time. I usually go down to L.A. once or twice a year to visit friends. Whenever I'm in North Hollyhood I try to make a stop. I've enjoyed dining on the patio on warm summer evenings or indoors in one of their dining rooms.
The menu is a nice varety of pasta and meat appetizers and entrees. Service has always been great. Some of my favorites are:
Appetizers:Fritto Misto--fried calamari, shrimp and vegetables
Bruschetta--served with different toppings
Burrata--creamy mozzarella, prosciutto, olive oil and basil
Dinner: Pasticcio--chicken lasagne, bechamel sauce, mushrooms
Mezzeluna Pumpkin Ravioli--sage, butter, parmesan
Ossobuco--tasty braised veal shank served w/risotto
Desserts: Tiramisu--the usual but a nice rendition
The wine selection is great and you can always find something to compiment your meal.
They valet your car too so parking is not an issue.
****Recommended.
Very good, and very fresh ingredients.
This is the best place for an outdoor dinner in this area. The patio is absolutely amazing and it feels as though you're actually in Italy (I'm from Europe so this makes me feel like home....).
Food... really, really good. They recently added some new items to their appetizers, one of which is a piadina which is incredibly hard to find in LA. The Salumeria plate is divine and is a perfect starter with a glass of bubbly.
Wine list... impressive. They have a great range of affordable to pricey wines and there's a LOT to choose from. They also have a great selection of Grappa, which is hard to come by in this town.
Desserts... the perfect ending with a digestivo. The lava cake is fantastic.
Service... the waiters here are so, so, so nice and make you feel special every single time.
All in all, this place is great for a nice relaxed dinner any night of the week. But patio seating is a must.
I've been going to this restaurant for years with my family, and its always been a decent restaurant -- not great by any standards -- but decent and fairly priced. However, I went again last night to celebrate my dad's birthday and I have to say...this restaurant has gone down hill. My dad ordered the Osso Bucco and he said it was good, not great. My white fish special came cold and the lemon caper sauce tasted like butter soup, no flavor. Service was not the best either, I could go on and on about my experience last night, but I will stop. Let's just say that I won't be going back there again. Many other yummy restaurants in town!
This is almost the only option for a business lunch within walking distance from my office. I don't mean to overstate the elegance of Ca del Sole restaurant, but it and Le Petit Chateau are the nicest restaurants of which I am aware in the Universal City/North Hollywood/Toluca Lake area. (Please message me if I am missing something!)
I usually eat salad for lunch and was disappointed by the descriptions of salads on the Ca del Sole menu. Instead, I ordered the Maine lobster linguine special for about $15. It was truly delicious with plenty of lobster morsels and I devoured every last strand.
My fellow diners ordered pasta dishes from the menu and I was impressed with the arugula salad that accompanied their pasta. They also had a celebrity sighting, but I didn't notice.
I think the food and service at Ca del Sole is superior to, say, Sisley, but it could use some more creative salads on the menu.
For a one-course lunch, Ca del Sole is a $$ restaurant ($25 PP), but when you add wine or more than one course, it becomes a $$$ meal.
The Nicest Outdoor Lunch
I had several meals at Ca Del Sole, today it was the first time I seat outdoor on their patio, it is the nicest patio, great feel.
The grilled polenta with mushrooms was excellent, the gnocchi bolognese were pretty good, its a great place for a business lunch, lots of space between the table.
Great place
The three star rating is mostly for the ambiance. I highly recommend the patio seating. The food however was so-so.
Three things really bugged me:
1. I asked the waiter if I can swap out spaghetti for linguine and he said, "No we don't have linguine." Well, what kind of Italian establishment is this? Does that mean they don't make fresh pasta and the dry, from the box, pasta was barely stocked?
2. I asked for Parmesan cheese and the waiter scooped it out of a glass bowl and dropped it on my pasta. Most Italian places have chunks of cheese to shave on top of your dish but I guess Kraft will do.
3. They mentioned gelato and my heart was aflutter. "What kinds do you have?" The waiter replies, "Just vanilla"...What no chocolate? "We can put some chocolate sauce on top if you like" I could only imagine it was Hersheys.
If it wasn't the fact that he gave us discount coupons I would forget the disappointing experience.
Ca del Sole struck me as a typical Valley Italian restaurant:
- outdated decor (framed landscape paintings and a brick fireplace painted white)....I would have liked to have been out on the outdoor patio with the fairy lights, but they said it's closed during the winter.
- decent food, not too expensive. I had the pumpkin lune ravioli with butter sauce and Parmesan---no complaints here. Gnocchi Bolognese were ok, though a bit mushy. Both pasta dishes were both under $15. Though if you're looking to continue the cheapness, don't add the suggested salad as it will add another $7 to your tab. MIxed drinks were also pretty cheap: $6.50 for Svedka vodka and pineapple juice, while a bottle of Moretti was $5.
- full of old people (including Larry David, apparently, who to me blended in among the sea of gray/bald so I didn't recognize him until my dining companions told me later)
Whew...this place is a keeper! I loved it.
Now let me tell you, if you have seen my reviews, I dont NOT throw out 5 stars like it aint no thang. But here... I pretty much have to. Let me explain:
-arrived at 7:30 on a Friday night and was seated immediately.
-Good glass of wine.
-Nice waiter!
-THE CHICKEN ENTREE WAS ENOUGH TO FILL ME AND MY HUSBAND AND WAS DELICIOUS AT ONLY $17!
-I had a great bowl of soup too!
-Upon exit, they gave us coupons for next time!
I am pretty much going to say this is a 3-4 star level styled place, but the chicken (whole or half, cant remember) entree was so incredible. Its basically a home made in a big skilled chicken with veggies and potatoes. Its healthy, no crazy sauces, and flawlessly presented. I cant believe we were able to both get full off a $17 dollar entree at a place this "nice".
Anyway- I will continue to go back and order the same thing forever. I hope i run into Larry David like the previous yelper!!! **quite surprising he hangs in the valley, eh?**
My husband and I had dinner here tonight. It was pleasant. I love the restaurant and the atmosphere. The decor was great, very cozy and romantic. It was also pretty quiet in the restaurant which I appreciated since most seem so loud these days.
The staff and service as very friendly and efficient. Its a great place for a date or romantic dinner.
The food was good but not exceptionally so. I would probably go back but its not the best italian food I've ever had. Its priced fair but the portions are not huge. The bread was ok, but really not great, which was a big let down to me. I love bread and one of the primary reasons I want to eat at an italian restaurant is to enjoy some good, warm bread.
I give it four stars just because i wasn't unsatisfied with the food and I love the decor! Def a very elegant, romantic atmosphere.
Started out with a glass of wine, which was really good and appetizer as well. I was not impressed with their entrees or their selection which was very limited. Service was great, not enough for us to be patronizing once more.
I met a friend here for lunch today, and we had a really great time. I'd been having a bad day, so this was a great escape. We sat out on the patio, which seemed popular, but not overly crowded. Plenty of trees to give you some shade, but there are a few tables right in the sun, if that's your preference.
So I ordered a raspberry lemonade, because I saw someone at another table with a really beautiful drink, and I wanted one. The lemonade had crushed pieces of raspberries, along with fresh mint. My friend insisted on spiking my drink, so I decided not to argue. Was good.
We split the Cozze, the mussels in a spicy tomato broth. So good! There were slices of garlic in the broth, and the broth was great with the bread.
My friend ordered the Manzo, beef medallions with greens and mashed potatoes. I had the puttanesca. Oh my gosh -- AMAZING. I mean, you have to like olives and anchovies, but this pasta was just fantastic. Just the right amount of salty and savory, and it was just so comforting. The lunch portions were just right, so we opted not to have dessert. We're going to go back for dinner soon.
Check out the pictures. Buon appetito!
Fabulous Italian spot in the Valley. Great for romantic dinners. The decor is homey, the service great. We had the crab cake appetizer - delicious, the pork shank with polenta & escarole - delicious again, tiramisu - nice & creamy with just a bit much on the powdered chocolate (dried out my throat).
This is Country Italian cooking at its best - I almost got the rabbit leg - I know it would have been succulent. I loved the varied choices on the menu.
I think children would be fine here IF they were well behaved. It's a spot to have a nice quiet, relaxed time. It's also a place where you can dress up - especially if it's a Fri/Sat night, but casual dress is popular too.
I can't wait to return!
The first time I came here (around 2001), I saw Chotchi. Or Chatchi, or however it is you spell that dude's name. It was so funny, because he was courting some gal and her dad. Or maybe it was her agent. But man, he was workin' it. One out of every 3 times you go, if it's a late lunch or weekend dinner, you will probably see a celebrity.
The food here is very good. It really is. The servers generally come by with a bit of 'tude, but I'm sure it's because anyday they're about to become the next Billy Bob Thornton. (Everytime I eat in Burbank, Pasadena, Santa Monica or North Hollywood, I always wonder if the servers are "actors").
The pasta dishes are okay, but I recommend the chicken, veal or beef. They are mediums-sized, glazed and well prepared (soft inside, light crispy outside).
Maybe you'll get to see Chotchi/Chatchi bust a move on his latest!
Expensive for what it is, but that's most Italian places. Come up with an amount in your head, then add another $4-5 a plate.
Not the most-impressive food. In fact, a couple dishes in our dining party were overdone.
The real star is the outdoor seating. It is secluded-feeling, casual, and nice with the foliage and Christmas lights. You don't feel like you're butting right up next to Cahuenga.
There is a special lunch insert but it appears to be a prix fixe type of thing for $23 which by my book makes for a pretty expensive lunch. There were some entrees on the regular menu that were $10 or less that were just the perfect lunch size, quantity-wise. And then theres everything else which is significantly past the $10 barrier.
My companions were pleased with the Gnocchi and the Gnochetti. I ordered the Piadine Grigliate with Seared Ahi tuna, caramelized onion, black olives, capers, curly endive. My dish looked large but did not leave me stuffed. I thought I was ordering something like pizza but actually it was the previously mentioned toppings on a really thin crispy flat bread. It was pretty good.
The patio was a great dining area. It was easy to forget that the restaraunt was adjacent to busy streets except when big trucks rolled by at which point it was hard to hear anyone at the table speak. Still, the patio has ample shaded seating and is hedged off from the street or other businesses so it feels somewhat secluded, sort of. The wait staff is reasonably friendly and quick to attend to drink refills. It's too bad that they have valet parking for lunch time instead of just letting people self-park considering how big a lot they seem to have.
I only went to this place because I was meeting people who work near CityWalk and I was sick of eating at CityWalk for lunch and this was close by. Realistically I can't imagine coming back here again any time soon with so many other good things to try out in the Studio City/North Hollywood area. Still, the waiter did give us a handful of 10% off coupons for brunch, lunch, and dinner. I expect my CityWalk friends will be back sooner than later to this place.
So my boyfriend has been raving about this place for months. I looked up the menu on line and was really entrigued and excited to go here.
Our reservations were for a friday night. We were seated right away. The patio looked gorgeous but ufortunately it was too cold to sit out there. The decor inside needs MAJOR updates. It looks like a outdated dining room at a country club or a hotel.....on Oklahoma.
We started with the carpaccio. I was really excited because this is one of my favorite starters. Well, I was very underwhelmed. It was a bit tasteless, cut a little too thick and should have probably been served over greens with something drizzled over it.
For the entree I had the Salmon which was AMAZING. So tender. My boyfriend had the gnochi with duck rague. Also delicious, (very strong taste). For dessert we had the tiramisu. Also underwhelmed. The lady fingers weren't moist enough so it almost seemed like they were trying to pass off coffee cake as tiramisu.
As for the service. oy! Both me and my boyfriend found BUGS in our water. We called the waiter over and all he said was "Oh yeah, that happens in this booth sometimes because of the overhead light." WHAT?! first of all, there are overhead lights everywhere. second of all, how about an APOLOGY?! thirdly, there should never be bugs in a restaraunt FOR ANY REASON! Aside from this we had some other problems with our waiter which I wont go into.
BOTTOM LINE: I'd probably order take out from this place but wouldn't actually eat there.
The vibe is awesome. Very nice quaint and for the most part romantic Italian restaurant in the Studio City/Toluca area.
The food is great. I took my own bottle of wine and the corkage fee was I believe $15. Don't hold me to it because its been a month. Make sure to make reservations for the weekend.
Good quality. Good atmosphere. Very nice date spot and definitely good value overall.
If I lived in a perfect world and didn't give a rat's arse what I thought about what people think when I am eating in a fine dining establishment such as this one, I would order a super expensive bottle of the yummiest wine on their list. I wouldn't even ask for a glass, just give me the damn bottle and let me hold onto it like a cat in heat. Then I would ask for a HUUUUGE basket of their bread and sit there all by myself, clenching my bottle and polish off a few bowls of that crack-like olive tapenade they serve you when you first sit down.
I would! And in that perfect world, I would have no shame and I would be smiling so wide that even if there were olives nestled in between my teefs I wouldn't care at all. Newp, not a bit!
But, sadly, I don't live in that world, but I do live in the world that gives your party a dish filled with yumminess and they will give you glasses to drink your wine from when you come here for brunch, lunch or dinner with friends. It's a fantastic little place that is great for a bite or a date or even a wedding. My friend got married here and it was great! So check it, you won't be sorry! :)
DELICIOSO! After a successful annual review at work, Kieran decided to take me out to Ca de Sole, which is a restaurant that a family friend bartends at, so we've been meaning to go here for more than a year now.
Our reservations were for 8:30 pm, and we were running a bit late. When we got there the hostess was very kind and welcoming. Before she sat us we went to the bar and had a couple pre-meal cocktails. I had a dirty martini (w/ vodka) which was delicious. The bar had plenty of comfortable seating at the bar and also a couple of couch/coffee table set ups. There is also a large patio with plenty of seating and heat lamps.
When we were done catching up with Dan the hostess sat us in a booth next to the fire place. It was the prime seat for sure!
For the first course we ordered the soup special which was shrimp and asparagus soup...that was VERY good. Our appetizer was a large plate of cheese head, home made salami and pastrami, pate, and olives. It was very good and the meats were perfectly made and salted.
For the main course Kieran ordered their Osso Bucco which was EXCELLENT. They had their flavoring down and their meat was so tender, with bone marrow and everything. I ordered the lobster ravioli which was extremely good and filling. I can't recall what wine we had to pair with our meals, but their list was very extensive.
For dessert we got "banana" which was caramelized bananas on top of a mousse with a banana flavored cake/bread. This was good although the bread was a bit dense and lacked flavor.
The service was excellent and they tended our table throughout the whole meal keeping our glasses full and our table cleared when appropriate. Valet was free and the price of food was a steal for what you are getting.

Toluca Lake Restaurant Hit By Armed Robbers
UPDATED: 7:19 am PDT August 21, 2006
LOS ANGELES -- Ca' Del Sole restaurant, located at 4100 Cahuenga Blvd. in Toluca Lake, was struck by two masked, armed robbers Sunday night.
Investigators said the gunmen's masks were "makeshift," with small cut-out eyeholes, and they carried guns.
A Toluca Lake restaurant was robbed at gunpoint by two masked men on Sunday night.
Police said the robbery at Ca' Del Sole at 4100 Cahuenga Blvd. occurred at about 10 p.m.
Two suspects wearing masks and carrying handguns emptied the cash register in the bar and took money and personal items from the customers, according to an On Scene Video photographer. He said a driver in an Isuzu SUV drove off with the robbers.
Chee said detectives had not determined if the robbery was connected to a string of recent San Fernando Valley robberies.
Detectives with the LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division were assigned to the case.
3.5 stars
its a very old school rat packish atmosphere
on a nice day, opt for outdoor seating
nice valley restaurant
good food
Consistently good food, with a very pleasant and attentive staff. I love the mezzalune, which is a crescent shaped pasta stuffed with pumpkin, served in a butter and sage sauce...Simply Delicioso!!
P.S.
Very Nice patio, with lots of crawling vines...good date spot.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. It is the mixture of ambience, food and service. If you can sit on the patio I would recommend it. It is very scenic- trees with little lights in them, intimate little tables- it does not feel like the valley.
The pumpin ravioli is delicious. Eat is slowly so you can enjoy the butter, sage and pumpkin flavors. Order it as an appetizer so you can try some of the other entrees.
If you want to stop in just for drinks the bar is small but elegant or again you can sit outside.
Went there tonight for a birthday dinner. Everything was great, the atmosphere--we sat on the patio in a cabana, the food was very good, everyone liked their food. They have a wonderful selection of salads, each one was completely different and had great flavor. Main dishes were as good and the deserts are the best especially the tiramisu. My only suggestion would be to offer a few more vegetarian dishes, they only have two--a risoto and the pumpkin ravioli. Two of our party had cigars with coffee and desert and the birthday boy was very satisfied with the whole experience. It was really reasonable, about 50.00 per person. We'll be back.
I haven't been in a while, but when I did I remember the food to be good and the dessert better.
Sorry, I'm so vague, but I was at Warner Bros this week and Ca Del Sole is around the corner...ahhh, I haven't Yelp'd about this place yet so I'm taking the opportunity to say it's the best Italian I've had in the Valley.
Oh, I can't forget to mention that I saw Vin Diesel on the next table with three amazingly gorgeous (renta) women. A friend was unimpressed: "you know he's gay..." I was jealous, but now I'm just confused.
Ca Del Sole is a great place to dine with your significant other or a larger group of friends. I've had many fabulous experiences here... each beginning with an amazing bottle of wine and their complimentary bread & addictive olive tapenade.
The menu isn't very vegetarian friendly, but whenever I ask, the staff seems more than happy to accommodate.
A most excellent respite from the streets of North Hollywood. Inside there is an interior and exterior dining option. If you choose the quaint courtyard, its nicely insulated from noise outside where the bend of Cahuenga winds into Lankershim at a busy intersection.
I-talian fare.
Inside, the lamps hang down over tables with lace draped over them. You can see the exposed wires dangling down from the ceiling, so it has an almost home type of feel. There is some interesting artwork on the walls- not stuffy/fake art holding spots, but kind of weird paintings of random things. Two points for having odd art. With odd art and dangling wire lamps, the atmosphere still maintains a sense of being quasi fancy.
I've been here several times, and love the mezzalune pasta- pumpkin filled pasta with creme sauce. Oh yes!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is delicious.
Great service, a nice bar area if you're waiting for others, and if you opt for the courtyard that is lovely.
For dessert, the chocolate bread pudding is a winner.
Its valet parking, so bring your singles! I think its $3.
There's nothing really funny for me to note about this place, so this is one of the most innocuous and straightforward reviews I've written. So there.
Don't come here for the food. The appetizer was so unmemorable that I can't even remember what we ordered. I also had gnocchi for the first time ever at this place, and I couldn't even finish my half-order. Sorry, gnocchi lovers, I won't be joining you guys just yet. One good thing about this place is the courteous staff; they served the gnocchi in two plates instead of one w/out my asking when I told my waiter that I wanted to share the dish. Did I actually say "courteous"? It was the same wait staff seemed eager to throw us out of there later on in the night, but that might be because we somehow stayed way past their closing time. Back to the food...the Zuppa de Pesce was much, much better because it reminds me of seafood paella from Spanish restaurants. However, everything seemed a bit too salty for my liking. Ca Del Sole, shame on you guys for trying to contribute to the hypertension epidemic in this country.
Do come here for the atmosphere. The booths are great for an evening out with friends, and the patio area is perfect for a romantic evening...I think. We didn't get a chance to check it out because it was a very cold evening and the heat lamps weren't working (wtf?!) Ca Del Sole is worth checking out if you just happen to be in the area and if you're more into the ambience than the food. If it's the other way around, though, go elsewhere.
I like this place more for its ambience, service and location, less for its menu. Personally, the menu is tricky for me with seemingly odd choices like Elk Toungue or Rabbit leg. Not your normal Italian fare.
That being said, the red pepper and creamy mozzerella appetizer was supremely delicious. The entre I had was mediocre but only because they did what all restaurants do with seafood pasta- cheap out on the seafood and overload the pasta portion. C'est la vie.
The 3 stars instead of 4 is solely because we were seated beside a party of 15 that included 6 screaming, running, wild children. They ruined everyone's dinners around them and I feel like it should fall to the restaurant to ask them to take the criers outside. But that's just me.
The very first time I ate there, the only thing memorable was that I spotted Brad Pitt. I couldn't even tell you what I ate but why does it matter? LOL.
I'm so surprised with all of those 3 stars reviews...
I've been going to this place since 2002 and boy, let me tell you - they worth every penny you spent.
I am an Italian food lover and I like to eat out and try new things, but I stop shopping around once I've found Ca Del Sole.
The price is very reasonable. When you said it's expensive, it's probably because you were not familiar with this restaurant's menu.
Their vegetable tortelli is to die for (order fritto misto, and you'll get some of the vegetable tortelli).
Their chicken lasagna - pasticcio, OMG, the best, they have a special sauce for their chicken lasagna and for $13... that's nothing.
Their spaghetti w/ seafood - bigoli, another OMG is so far the best I've ever tasted, they make their own spaghetti, so the texture and everything is very unique and they always cook it al dente.
Now for dessert, have you ever tried their tiramisu and crema? Ahhh you should try them now...
Their table wine for $6.50/glass ahhh is very good...
Just don't order things that you're not familiar with, you'll end up wasting your money there.
I spent about $70 for 2 persons - a 4 course meal. Don't try to impress your date or so by ordering expensive food. After all, you're going there for the food and not for showing off.
Ahhh, I forgot to mention, the decoration is awesome, outside patio is perfect for afternoon meal especially in spring and winter time and great for summer nights...
The inside is quite romantic...
The best place to go for me, I can't say for other people...
Try going on weekdays... BETTER!!!
5 stars all the way!!!
Lots of TV stars to spot too...
Ah... and although it's lunch - ask them for dinner menu (dinner portion w/ only $2 more - worth even more!!!)
This is a good place to go for Italian food in the Valley. Very convenient if you work at Universal or have meetings there. The baby artichoke salad is really good and the spaghetti carbonara is excellent. I could live without the olive tapenade that comes with the bread.
I like this place. And, I agree with Kimberly M. Great for romantic dinners or large parties...I had the seafood spaghetti and LOVED it! This was my first time here but have wanted to go for several months. Most of my friends have gone and told me how nice it is especially if you have a "date"...BAM...they were right! I will be back here soon...
It's the fireplace, patio, and country-club vibe that make this a good venue for romantic dinners or Roman banquets. Appetizers, like the amazing carpaccio, can upstage the entrees, which can be heavy--a grilled boneless chicken has enough protein for four. The seafood spaghetti and many of the other tasty pasta dishes are lighter and leaves you eligible for chocolate-almond cake with vanilla cream sauce for desert.
