12 reviews for C Salon
I came here with low expectations since I was acting as a hair model for the apprentice program. Both the staff there as well as my stylist (Ivan) were very courteous and contentious of what I wanted for my hair.
I can't wait to go back when Ivan is instated as a full-time stylist for a bolder hair change!
I would have to agree with 2 reviewers here.
Jessica J said "just feel like I got cheated out of $130."
Carolynne R said "There really should be some rule that if you are going to charge a customer more than the listed price, it should be communicated to you at the salon."
THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THAT I WOULD EVER RECOMMEND THIS SALON!!!
Alright 5 stars are kind of rare for me... maybe it's a sign of being a discerning customer, or maybe it's a sign of being easily prone to grumpiness. Whatever the case if I were to have half stars at my disposal I'd probably give it a 4.5 based on the expense. Seriously... how the hell did I buy $22 hair gel? Oh it's not gel, it's something fancier and it comes from Italy. Kelley knows hair goop like the back of her injured hand. Apparently the girl has a mean left and dislocated her finger. Okay so maybe it wasn't in a fist fight and actually during turbulence on a flight, but you can pick whatever story sounds coolest and go with that. So back to the hair...
First off it is extremely rare for me to actually talk to someone cutting my hair... usually I zone out after they ask me if I voted for Obama or if I have the day off. Kelley was actually very engaging and I think I chatted all the way through the cut, again very rare. So pleasant conversation during the shearing: unexpected but a welcome change.
My hair bores the hell out of me, and I really gave her zero direction as to what to do. Plus it's short and deceptively thick (more hair technical lingo)... and despite all of that she resisted temptation to go the easy route of shaving my head bald and did some texturing stuff that turned out quite nice. Results: good.
Oh and maybe it was a slow day, but we called down and got an appointment in 30 minutes. That was a plus and now I will not look like a Wookie over the weekend.
Let's talk shampoo for just a second. Getting shampooed by someone besides yourself is pretty awesome. Justin was the shampoo artist that attended to my scalp an unprecedented number of times. I had to keep going back as Kelly kept trying new forms of hair goop alchemy on my head to find the right blend of product that does SOMETHING versus product that doesn't feel like ANYTHING (i.e. magic air). Oh yes, that eventually led to the $22 Italian hair goop purchase that I could probably be made fun of. Anyhow Justin had some sort of comb like device that was the best scalp sensation ever.
What else can I say? Kelley in addition to being a fist fighter, expert in hair goop, good stylist, and nice conversationalist also had freckles for miles.
1 star - haircut
1 star - good conversation
1 star - shampooing
1 star - quick appointment
1 star - Kelley's freckles
-1.5 star overpriced foreign hair goop
4.5 star total, rounded up on account of other stuff
Just had the Brazilian hair straightening treatment with Joanne...it is 1/2 the price and less than 1/2 the time of the Japanese straightner. It is awesome....I can blow dry/flat iron my hair in 1/2 the time! Highly recommended....
C Salon is so convenient after working in the SW Loop. Another stellar job by Ricardo! Staff is always helpful, I got a reminder call for my Tues. appointment on a Sunday, wow.
Not sure how a reviewer only wanting a trim lost 4" of her hair- I guess she didn't communicate what she wanted. The stylists always have the "what are we gonna do today?" chat; hearing you out, offering their professional input, and coming to an agreement before they even pick up a scissor!

Since I work in the wasteland that is the Southwest Loop I was very happy to discover C Salon. I can… Read more »
Update- Apparently they do pay attention to their reviews.
The stylist went out of her way to call and apologize after reading my review. I dont think anyone else would do that. It really showed that she took her job seriously and cared about her customers.
I gave it an extra star for that purpose alone....
I guess "C" is the name b/c that's the grade it gets from me.
Note- I am a die hard fan of Red 7 Salon. My colorist went into labor today so I was kind of forced to try something new.
I yelped for a salon close to my work with the best reviews and figured I'd try this place out. When I called to schedule my appt they seemed to have a quite a few open spots (this is a never at the best salons - shoulda told me something from the start). When asked how I heard about the salon I said yelp. You'd think that might throw up a flag for "we better do a good job on this one" or something.
My experience was just ok. I was placed with Kelly. Nice girl but not too great with the small talk. I get my hair colored black...it's impossible to fail at this. She only touched up my roots neglecting to put color on the other 15 inches of my (what was) long hair. I mentioned this and she kinda gave me some excuse about not needing to do it everytime. (I now have black roots with faded brown hair). It doesnt look horrible...just not what I paid for.
The Cut - I just wanted the dead ends trimmed off. She took off 4 inches. ''shrug''. It'll grow back...all is well...but that's a classic mistake that you'd find at "hair cuttery" or some low end place. Not a place that charges $130 a cut without even telling you how much experience the stylist has.
I'm not totally bashing the place. The front desk guy was awesome. Got me water...magazines...etc..
The girl washing my hair apparently took out some much needed anger on my head. (my neck still hurts).
The place wasnt as hip and modern as some of the other reviews said.
It was an ok experience....just feel like I got cheated out of $130.
Back to RED 7!
C Salon is the epitome of class, sophistication and humility. Beginning with owner, Carlo who is a master hair colorist; he is also a soft-spoken genuine man who sets a high standard of excellence in his business.
All other stylists are chic, trendy and fun, approachable people. Ricardo is extremely talented and creative, and his cuts and blowouts are 'to die for!' Joann is very experienced, and shares her great knowledge as she gives a terrific color and cut! I was treated to the best shampoo and scalp massage by Justin!
The ambience in the salon is always refreshing, comfortable and void of stress or 'attitude'. They always get you in and out in a reasonable period of time and the prices are well in line with the high level of experience and talent.
I really wanted to like this salon. The space is very hip & modern and the the vibe was very busy busy busy. HOWEVER. To charge $80 for a MAN's haircut (haircut only now, no fancy treatments or colour) is absurd. Especially when the price list states that men's haircuts are $35!
Is this stylist THAT much better that he can command such fees? No I dont think so. The haircut was a good one, but COME ON! Women's haircuts supposedly are $55 but I shudder to think what it REALLY would end up costing. Yikes!
There really should be some rule that if you are going to charge a customer more than the listed price, it should be communicated to you at the salon, or better yet, at the time when the appointment is made.
Whether this was done intentionally or not, its really a shame as we will most likely never patronize this business again.
Went here for the first time today, after driving by for months. Great service and cut by Aaron. I'll be back!
I love C Salon. I used to work right down the street and started going to Brian for haircuts two years ago. I now work a little farther down the block, in San Francisco, CA, but having family in the midwest always gives me a reason to go out of my way to visit Brian! I'm picky about my hair, plus its very thick and has a life of its own, but Brian really gets it. You won't be disappointed!
I started going here since my neighbor, Carlo M, is the owner. I was concerned with changing a tried and true item in my life but he was a friend and I told him I would try him. Turns out, he is a fabulous colorist and I haven't changed since. (Insiders tip - since he is the owner, tipping is really at your discretion, not a part of the cost). It is not too difficult to get in to see him but if you have an emergency, he has added staff to accommodate his overflow. Haircuts are great here and the product selection is extensive as well. Definitely a place to try if you want a low-key very high quality salon.
Great spot for a midday haircut in the west-loop. Everybody there does a great job and there's usually a fair bit of availability a the last minute.
