Petaluma, CA
"This is THE BEST sushi in Petaluma. In the top 5 for Sonoma county in my opinion. The fish is always super fresh and delicately prepared.…" read more »
We are thrilled to have another sushi spot upvalley! And even more thrilled that this one is excellent. We had a rocky start with a brand new waiter when they first opened, but they remembered us the second time and went far far out of their way to make it up to us. The rolls are creative and tasty but it was the panko scalops that convinced us to come back a second time (now our visits are in the double digits). But what really earns five stars are the deserts. The owner/chef is a sweets guy and came up with a menu of winners (though the rice pudding is easily my favorite with the creme brule topping and tempura sugared mango bits).
Excellent sushi! We went as a group of 4 and ordered maybe 8-10 different plates to share. We had a delicious cold, unfiltered saki.. although the name escapes me. Highlights in my opinion were the vegetable tempura and the spicy tuna rolls. We ordered a plate of toro and paid $30... in our opinion definitely not worth it.
They're open until 2am on Thursday-Saturday so it's one of the few places in the valley that you can get food that late. I will definitely return.
I only gave 4 stars because of the toro and because two of us ordered miso and never got it and then were charged for it (although it was taken off). Additionally, we thought that several of the rolls that we got were fairly similar. Overall a great restaurant and a nice change from the usual California fare that you find so often in the valley.
Going for a getaway to Napa Valley? Looking for a sushi bar that is just out of this world with technique and flavors? You gotta give CC Blue Sushi Bar with Herman Chin and Chef Remington a whirl. Make sure to ask them a paired Saki with your meal. Without the hustle and bustle of San Francisco, the artisans behind the sushi bar can concentrate on personalizing on your tidbits of sushi and sashimi which tackle your taste buds and focus your senses into a parity of delight, wonder and inspiration. After all, isn't it a bunch of raw fish, well.. yes and no, if you have the experience how to cut it and offer presentation.
In a hurry? Don't miss Blue's Bento choices either. These turned out to be quite a delight, when I took some of the boxes with me on my drive, and ate it at a wonderful winery just before a tour.
