Stacey is great. She really knows hair and color. I like that she takes a TON of time right when I sit down to go through my hair, what I like and disliked about the last cut and color. She also does hair and makeup for local fashion shows, too.

Byu-ti is a great salon - very trendy and forward. It is the West Coast Flagship salon for Pureology. The salon also does benefits quite often, which is a nice touch to know all of the stylists occasionally take the time to give back.

I also like how you can book online (once registered) and after your first appointment, if you give your email address and book follow-up appointments, an email confirmation is sent to you a few days before your appointment so you just go to the link and accept.  No playing phone tag to confirm that you will be there!

A cut and color (not highlights) is approx. $160, which I find reasonable for LA.

If you park at the lot at 4th and Wilshire (on 4th), Byu-ti will validate up to 2 hours.

I have been to Byu-ti twice now. The place has more of a spa-like feel to it rather than a hair salon, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience here both times. The simple decor (almost everything is white with some green accents) and the aromatherapyish smells lend to a very relaxed, soothing atmosphere. The first time I went they gave me some delicious tea, and last time I was there ladies were drinking champagne. Now that's MY kind of hair salon!!! On your first visit they also give you an envelope with coupons, the coolest one being $25 off for you (on your next visit) and a friend you refer to them. Their prices are actually really affordable (one of the reasons I left my previous stylist), but in this economy every little bit helps!

Tina is the sweetest little blonde who makes sure to cut/color your hair just the way you want it. On my second visit (for highlights) she asked me if I wanted the color the same as the previous time. I DID want it lighter, and I was so happy that she asked me instead of me having to bring it up. She is precise, and takes her time to make sure she does a perfect job. I was wary to try a new stylist at first, but I have never received so many compliments on a hair cut after seeing Tina!

Of course, like every new relationship, I will have to wait a bit to know whether this salon is really "as good as it gets" ;)

P.S. make sure to park in the structure off of 4th behind the T-mobile, they validate!!

Go see Surya. She is amazing, professional, and such a sweetheart :) I came to Byu-ti a few months ago with seriously damaged hair, you know how it goes ladies :( and I am sooo glad that I did.
All of the products at the salon are great, esp. Redken and Pureology. The best thing at the salon is definitely their hair treatments. They are worth the extra $$$. They will leave you with silky, shiny, smooth hair like you stepped out of a pantene commercial.
The staff is always so nice and accommodating. and as other yelpers have mentioned they really do give incentives to save you $$$. The salon is also open Sundays !! such a perk :)
One more thing- try to get out early, as parking on wilshire is never fun, boo :(

Out of a possible 5 kudos:
ambiance: 5 (sweet and serene)
Price Point: 5 (reasonable)
Cleanliness: 5 (enough said)
Staff Friendliness: 5 (always a pleasure)
Merchandise: 5 (great selection)
Location/ Parking: 4 (santa monica parking eeeek)

Noooooo! My favorite stylist, Luciana, is moving to Montreal. **tear**

But it speaks volumes of her commitment to her clients and of Byu-ti's commitment to their stylists that she will be traveling back and forth to LA every 5 weeks to see her clients! **tear again**.

I feel so lucky to have found her and I'm so glad I don't have to find a new stylist!

I LOVE this salon, beautiful, bright, stylish, clean, and hip. I feel pampered every time i walk through the doors. The front desk staff is always attentive, helpful, and unpretentious!

My stylist Sura is an absolute doll, funny, talkative and friendly, yet sensitive. ( not the type who chats your ear off when you just want to chill quietly and read your magazine,..perfect balance! )

Now lets talk about my hair, it's super fine, dark brown natrually, and long. It is quite an amazing feat to make me look like a natrual long haired blond with healthy shiny hair. Basically I am asking for a miracle every time I get my hair done. Luckily Sura is magical when it comes to highlights and colour, and I LOVE her for it!!! When I met her a year ago I had major breakage at the crown of my head, a year later those hairs have grown to almost the lenght of the rest of my hair. No more funny cowlick, YAY!!! Thank god for Sura insisting on a new program for my frazzled locks!

Check it out, you will not be disappointed!!!!

This salon is deliciously dreamy.  I'm always so happy to be there.  The ambiance is top notch.  You get the ultimate in luxury and pampering in a clean and simple yet elegant environment.  But what I can't rave enough about is Lara.  She's been doing my hair for the last couple of years and if you don't have a hair dresser, you'd be lucky to get her.  For someone so young, she performs like a seasoned professional and never ceases to amaze me.  I am so happy that she has managed to get my hair color to look just like the redwoods where I grew up and every time I see my hair or get compliments, I want to SQUEEZE her.  And it doesn't hurt that she's totally cool, adorable and beautiful.  I LOVE LARA!!!!

Andi is FANTASTIC.  She made my sad hair very happy with a stylish cut.  However, I have to say this: Byu-ti gives it's clients $25 off your next haircut if you write a review on Yelp or Citysearch.   I don't want Social Media karma to bite me in the a**...

Moved to Santa Monica about a year ago and I yelped for beauty salons and Byu-ti came up . . . and I chose to go somewhere else.  That visit was underwhelming and I didn't want to go back.  Recently hair got unruly again and I went in search again for that perfect salon.  I decided to give Byu-ti a try, and I'm so glad I did!

My appointment was with Sura and she looked at my half curly/wavy, thick hair in advance, we discussed my lifestyle (one year old at home - calls for frequent ponytails but want a great cut the other half of the time), my desire, classic-prep meets Eva Longoria, and we agreed in advance about what she was going to do and then off to the shampoo.

The shampoo and conditioner was great, smelled herbally and I got a lovely scalp massage!  The cut was great, just what I wanted, and we had friendly conversation.  After she blew out my hair (and by the way, she did a very good blow out) we reviewed the cut and made a few more adjustments.  Perfect!

Overall, as a customer I felt like my natural hair was considered along with my lifestyle, the service was great and I felt like I got my money's worth.  I WILL be going back!

Note: Be aware that tipping is cash or check only.  You can pay for your cut or color with credit, but can't add on the tip to it.  They have little envelopes at the front desk.

Note Two: There are two things I hate about salons.  Number one, the ones where the chairs are right next to the window and you feel like you are on display for the gawking of everyone walking by, dripping wet hair, hair foils and all.  Byu-ti has a large dividing wall seperating the reception/waiting area and the salon.  The salon area feels private!

Pet Peeve #2.  Asking about pricing.  We all have an average price that we're comfortable with for a hair cut.  And we probably have an idea of what a salon's average is, before we call.  I hate having that first phone call that goes something like this,

"Hi, my name is Sarah and I need a hair cut."
"Do you have anyone you'd like to see?"
"No, I've never been there.  Who is good?"
"Tom's good."
"Great, does Tom have any openings this weekend?"
"Ummmm . . . no.  Mable is available."
"Is Mable good?
"Yeah, she's okay."
Umm, great.  How much does Mable charge?"
"She charges $X. (Imagine $20 more than you intended to spend.)"
"Oh.  I was hoping to spend $Y.  Anyone there at that price?"

and it goes on and on.  You don't want to get stuck paying for the salon owner at $100 more if you didn't plan on it, nor do you want to get stuck with the brand new graduate with their shiny, shiny scissors.  Somewhere in the middle.

Byu-ti solves this.  If you go to their website you can, get this, make an appointment online!  You put in what day (or days) you are interested in and what kind of service you need and they tell you all the stylists, times and PRICES for each stylist right there.  You just point and click and you're good to go.  You know how much it is going to be before you walk in the door.  I love it!

Thank you Byu-ti for your great service and environment!  I will be back!

I have curly hair.  Tis a blessing and a curse because I do not need a blow dryer.  However, I hate it when stylists throw me out with wet hair since I never blowdry it.  Especially when you are harassed about buying $30 shampoos when you don't even know what your hair looks like!  Also, I do know Spanish so don't talk to your next customer who comes in early for her appt about how not to worry, i don't need a blowdry and then throw me out with wet hair!

I think that was my problem with  Byu-ti.  My hair looked like a slightly better version of the hair i went in with (not that I knew that until an hour later when it was fully dry), yet I paid a bundle and was harassed at every turn into buying expensive products.  I also made the appointment online and the receptionist REFUSED to honor the $25 off for first time customers on the website.  She claimed she had never heard of that.

I did find the salon relaxing and pleasant, but I just want a good haircut and not to look like a wet rat when I leave.

Next time I will spend my hard earned dough somewhere else.

I had my hair re-touched here in July 2008 so oops i dont remember who did my hair. Anyway, all the stylists seem very friendly and professional. From what I saw, every person that came out of the salon had great hair. I love the intimacy of this place. The bright lightening and soft space makes it easy to relax and enjoy all the wonderful ammenities that come with your service. They gave me a very effective head massage as my hair was being washed--felt sooooo good. My hair looked fabulous after and I felt very refreshed, oh I like the products that they use. If I were still in LA, this would be my salon spot.

One morning, I woke up and realized that my hair was two different colors and four different lengths.  My penchant for exploiting student prices at hair salons in Westwood had earned me many insane cuts - some were so insane that I could not gracefully grow them out.  (I've learned it's best not to tell stylists in discount salons that my hair is wavy, as it almost certainly means I'm leaving with the dreaded "two-tier" haircut, with the top layer of my hair cut about four inches shorter than the bottom).

I did some research and decided on Byu-ti as my introduction to grown-up hair care.  It was such a fab decision.  The inside of this place is so clean and bright and inviting.  I can't remember who my appointment was with, but she was super engaging and didn't judge me for letting my ends get so horrifically bleached out by the elements.  She didn't once pressure me and was quite possibly the first stylist to actually deliver to me exactly what I asked for.  She dyed my ends to match the roots and evened out the many varied layers of my hair, without destroying all the months of length I'd been so proud of.

I will most certainly go back - when I have the money to spend.  The only painful part of my Byu-ti experience was how much all the fun stuff cost.

I'm so in love with this place that I don't want to review it, because I'm already paranoid enough about getting an appointment with Natasha.

It ain't cheap, but it's soooo soooo worth it.  I've been going since they first opened and I am ruined for all other hair salons ever.  Natasha, you're not allowed to stop cutting my hair, ever.  When you're 85 I'm going to be banging on your front door begging you to please cut my hair.

My visit to Byu-ti has got to be one of the most underwhelming experiences in my life.  Granted, the space is lovely (clean!) and the staff there is nice enough.  Yay.  What I didn't like was that after paying all that money, I left thinking "that's it?" and "I paid THAT much for nothing?"  My hair looks pretty much the same as it had when I first walked in, maybe just a little bit more fluffier (yes "fluffier") and now I have this weird bang action going on.

If you're the other person who saw "Legally Blonde 2" and you remember that part where Elle talks about not speaking up when her hairstylist is doing something she isn't comfortable with and how it's a travesty to the whole democratic or judicial system, or whatever.  Anyways, lesson learned.

FYI, if you decide to go, there is metered parking all over Santa Monica.  On 6th, meters go up to 2 hours.  Or go on to 4th and there's structured parking (1st 2 hours free, $1 for each add'l half hour).  Also, I think I overheard the receptionist tell another customer cash tips only; there's a charge for them adding tip to credit cards.

I have two words that will keep me coming back to Byu-ti forever and a day....ANDI SCARBROUGH.  She is just the absolute best in every way.  Like most of us, I have always had trouble finding a hairstylist I love- you know how it goes, the one that styles your hair well has the worst personality and you can't fathom spending 3 hours listening to their LAME life story; or the one you like can't style your hair to save their life.  Now that is why I love Andi....she is cool and knows when to talk and when to (in the most polite way) shut-up.  Best bed-side manner I've ever met in the 'beauty' business.
Everyone at Byu-ti is so professional and kind...they even remember my name!!!
I have sent a handful of friends to Byu-ti already and I plan to continue  that patronage for a long time. THANKS, BYU-TI!!!

This place rocks and Andi is amazing.  Decor is a refreshing minimalist and clean look with cute cherry blossom accents here and there.  The style of it makes me feel comfortable and the hot tea available is a nice calming touch as well.  Every haircut and color I've gotten from Andi has been better than the last not to mention she's an all around great chick!  Wonderful, looong shampoo and head massage makes it all worth it too.
I'm finally in love with a salon in LA.  Go here!!!

I started going to Byu-ti Hair Therapy in June after spending many months looking for a place where I could get my hair cut and highlighted in an unpretentious place with minimal attitude and up-sell. Having moved to LA from Washington, DC recently, I thought that was a fairly tall order until I went to Byu-ti. While there are many salons in the area that have extremely talented stylists, Byu-ti is in a league of its own when it comes to customer service. When my original stylist had to take a leave of absence, the owner, Natasha Sunshine, offered to cut my hair at my original stylist's rate, which was 30% lower than her rate. Natasha also took her time asking me what I liked about my previous haircut, what I would want to keep, change or improve, what my hair care routine was, and the like. Since I have no hair care routine to speak of (except for shampooing and conditioning every day), she gave me a haircut that nicely aligned to my low-maintenance needs. Natasha also gave me quick tips on how to style my hair in 5 minutes and what products I could use if I ever got inspired to fix my hair. I really appreciate her approach. I've had a lot of stylists try to change my wash-and-wear routine, but she worked with me and I am pretty happy with my hair. She also told me I could always come back and get my bangs trimmed (for free) in between visits. She also recommended that I make an appointment with Sura Radcliffe to get my highlights retouched or redone.

Sura did an amazing job with my partial highlights. She knew that I was scared that any brown or red color would make my black hair look too unnatural and/or brassy. Having seen many Asian women walk around with orangey-red hair, I wanted my highlights to look subtle but give my hair much needed dimension. Sura applied the initial color to my hair, waited until the color was absorbed, and then asked me to go outside with a mirror to see if I liked the highlights and if I wanted more or less. While I kind of looked strange standing in the street in my smock with foil in my hair, I thought that was a pretty smart technique. In the salon, it didn't look like my hair color changed at all. But under the bright California sun, my highlights were visible. In the end, my hair looked amazing and it's by far the best color job I have ever had. Sura also did a great neck and head massage as she shampooed the excess color from my hair. To top it off, she also gave me pointers on how I could easily and effortlessly blow dry my hair if I ever got inspired. I've gotten a lot of compliments on my color and have been getting my highlights touched up by Sura every couple of months. Sura also does a great job doing eyebrows. She waxed and plucked my eyebrows while she was conditioning my hair.

I went to Byu-ti when it first opened and loved the haircut that Leslie gave me.  I had always had long hair and wanted to do something different, and even though I was apprehensive, Leslie put me at ease and followed through with a great short haircut that I was super excited about.  I was so happy with what she did that I actually woke up an extra ten minutes each day to spend time styling my hair - normally I'm a wash and air-dry kind of girl.  Cut to this weekend, I went back there after a long hiatus because it was the only place I could get an appointment on the day that I called.  I was first trying to avoid it because I knew they were on the pricey side.  I was delighted to find out that they had dropped their prices, AND they could take me right away (Leslie had moved on from there, so I ended up with someone else).  Well, I guess you get what you pay for, and it should have been a sign to me why they could accommodate me right away on a weekend.  I brought in several pictures of hairstyles that I was interested in, and I walked out looking like none of them.  Plus, I was underwhelmed by the blowdry that I got.  My hair looked like a lampshade when I walked out of there.  I signed up for their buy 3 get 1 free promos but I think I will cancel.  I thought at first that I could go back and have it fixed but I've decided to just go somewhere else.  It just seems like the quality of their service has dropped from the time that they first opened.

Came in for the first time in desperate need of a cut & style. I don't trust many people with my hair, but Sura really knew what she was doing. The place is really nice and has a spa feeling. They really try to personalize the service. They offer you a packet with lots of discounts on future visits which is great.  I ended up with a great cut and style and really recommend this place to anyone.

I love this place!! I got the prettiest hottest bob hair cut here by Tara, my stylist. The interior is beautiful too, all white. I feel at ease getting my hair cut here, it's absolutely wonderful. The only thing I feel a little neutral about is the owner's dogs that run around freely in the store. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs... but sometimes there's borders

First off let me just say that Byu-ti Salon ROCKS!! And now for a more detailed story about the wonderful experience I had with them...
I recently moved to LA from Maui and had not yet found a stylist that I trusted, so my hair was becoming more and more of a disaster. I woke up on Good Friday morning looked in the mirror, and WOWZA it was BAAAAAD!!! I had to be at work in Santa Monica by 4:30pm and it was already 12:30, but I was absolutely determined to get my hair done that day, so I did a search online for Salons in West LA and started calling down the list. My fifth call was to Byu-ti. The receptionist was  extremely sweet, she told me that the senior stylist just had a cancelation and that if I could be there in a half hour they could do it. She also explained that Dawns prices were higher and made sure I was okay with them. I rushed my ass over there... It was fate. Dawn gave me the the best cut and color I've ever had in my life!! She instantly gained my trust, and somehow knew exactly what I wanted. Not only is she an amazingly talented stylist, she is a wonderfully darling sweetie too!! I loved them all!! I highly recommend Byu-ti to anyone looking for an experience that takes you above and beyond your expectations...  Dawns my gal!
P.S. Every one at work went crazy over my hair, and my manager didn't even recognize me at first... I felt 100% beautiful!!!

the worst customer service i have ever encountered at a salon. it's really too bad since i wanted to like the place.
my appointment time was changed without ever noticing me and even the stylist was changed. i only found out about it since i called on the day of my appointment. never got a confirmation call. had to deal with the most rude front desk person i have ever spoken to. never once apologized about the mix up.
when i did make it to the new appointment time after changing all my plans (it was for an up-do for an event i was attending that night so yes, i had to go) i actually had to wait for few min. when i told what happened to my stylist, all she could do was to tell me that i should email natasha, the ownder. she didn't bother to do anything about it herself.
i emailed natasha about it, thought the owner should know. she called me the next day and couldn't even remember my name and by the tone of her voice, i don't know why she even bothered to call. funny how they advertise so highly about values and 'giving goodness'.

I've walked by this salon numerous times to and from work and had been curious.  My hair appointment was canceled from another salon because of scheduling issues and I wasn't able to get an appointment on the day I needed it.  So I decided to give this place a call and see if they had any openings.  Luckily for me, they did.  From the reviews from Yelp, I requested Andi or Dawn.  I was set for a cut with Andi and I have to say, she exceeded all my expectations.  I had been afraid that this place would be too LA for me.  (I'm an East Coast girl and have been weary of LA, Paris types.)  The people at the salon were really nice.  I had my hair shampoo-ed by James and he was AMAZING.  He gave me this head massage that almost made me fall asleep. (Yes, it was that good and that relaxing.)  It was really great.  Andi was a down to earth, Texas girl, and warm and friendly.  Plus, she knows her stuff.  She gave me some new ideas to change up my hair.  During the cut, it was so easy to talk to her.  It was really a great experience all around. They have great promotions for their new customers.  But they really don't need it because it's easy to be a repeat customer here!  Thanks, Andi!

Awful hair cut. My first appointment was with Luciana.  I requested an angled cut - long in front, short in back - what's referred to as an A-Line cut.  There was a client in another chair getting almost that exact cut and I pointed to that client while I was getting my hair washed.  After two hours in the chair, I walked away with the left side about half an inch longer than the right - and the back was choppy and crooked.  I emailed Natasha, the owner, and she offered to fix my hair. When I went in to see Natasha, despite seeing the unevenness, she was very unapologetic and told me my straight hair was very difficult to cut for a number of reasons.  She straightened the cut and now it's a decent haircut - but it's not what I had asked for and now it's too short to go someplace to have it fixed.  I guess I should just be glad it's no longer crooked.  Natasha is a good stylist - if you're willing to be happy with the cut she gives you instead of getting the cut you want.  DO NOT GO TO BYU-TI!!!  And if you do - do NOT GO TO LUCIANA!!!  And I just found out that they offer a $25 discount coupon to those who write them a good review online.   So people weren't moved by the experience to recommend them, they were bribed.
