Buy Buy Baby
5 reviews for Buy Buy Baby
Baby stores are frightening. My first experience at Babies 'R Us terrified me. There was stuff -- baby stuff -- everywhere. I didn't understand how a little one could possibly need so much gear.
At first, I was shocked at how much cheaper the prices were at Buy Buy Baby vs. Babies 'R Us. I was wrong. Buy Buy Baby in Rockville is cheaper than Babies 'R Us in Los Angeles. Moms have told me that Babies "R Us has much better bargains out in this area.
So you pay a little more. Generally, I'm all about good bargains. But if you have 2 screaming babies in a stroller, you want a store that is (1) well organized (2) has everything you need so you don't have to drive around to another store with 2 screaming babies and (3) has mad staff to flock to you as soon as you enter.
Scene @ Babies 'R Us: I wish someone, ANYONE, could help me find X baby product. Does anyone work here, seriously???
Scene @ Buy Buy Baby: As soon as I enter, a team of staff members surrounds me and says, "What do you need? What can I get for you? How can we help? Can I pour you a glass of red wine, it's mighty chilly out there?" (There's no wine, but you get the picture).
Buy Buy Baby is owned by Bed Bath and Beyond, now it all makes sense. I love Bed Bath and Beyond. Sure, it's a little pricey, but I almost always find everything that I need for my house. Same goes for Buy Buy Baby when it comes to all things baby. They even carried the Think Baby bottle line!!! And they have a private room where I can feed my little ones.
Sometimes, even I think it's worth paying a little bit more. This is one of those times, for sure.
This location is so much larger than the Springfield location. I feel that they have more selection. They have an entire downstairs devoted just to baby furniture! Everything (plus more) that you need for baby is here!
Only four stars because it is hard to navigate around the store with a shopping cart. I only wish that there were more locations!!!!
The first time I walked into Buy Buy Baby, my retinas exploded from overexposure to primary colors. Then my ears exploded from all the wailing babies. Then my face broke when my jaw hit the floor after seeing the price of baby gear. Finally, my testicular fortitude was ravaged when I had to peruse nipple creams and shields.
For Those Expecting - They recently updated their website, so it is apparently easier to use than before, though there was a major FUBAR for those who were expecting in March/April of this year. I still find the website rather clumsy when compared to Babies R Us for ordering items off of a registry and browsing through the site is a challenge. I'd recommend registering at Babies R Us as well b/c while BBB has a 10% completion program, BRU has a 15% off. 5% may not seem like a big deal, but when you're talking 100s if not 1000s of dollars, that's a pretty sizable difference. Despite these issues, BBB has a larger selection than BRU and they have higher-end and the newest merchandise you can't find at BRU - me thinks you'll be saying Broke, Broke, Baby, after shopping here.
For Those Whose Friends Are Expecting - BBB is INTIMIDATING! Whereas BRU is open and pastel-themed, BBB has merchandise stacked to the ceilings (think Bed, Bath, and Beyond) and the colors are more bold, which is ok in small doses but lethal when stacked to the ceiling. You won't find your life any easier on the Web. The website has been upgraded but it's still hard to browse and the checkout process is rather whack as some portions are not encrypted. If you're new to baby gear, I'd recommend going to BRU if your friends are registered there. If they aren't, BBB might provide yet another reason why you're waiting to have kids.
Conclusion: Better merchandise, latest releases and better B&M shopping experience, albeit slightly intimidating.
when you first walk in it's like deja vu but you don't know why... Buy Buy Baby stores are basically Bed Bath and Beyond stores but for kid stuff (they're part of the same company). think floor to ceiling products and lots of fluorescent lighting. great selection with lots of organics and hard to find items. place is clean and organized so you can run in and out quick and easy, but you don't because you're too busy checking out all the neat stuff. best customer service EVER! the staff is super knowledgeable and really know their products. ask them any question and they know the answer. 4.75 stars. would've given a full 5, but wish their website was better, that they had more bathrooms, and sent out more store coupons.
TIP: they will take one UNEXPIRED Bed Bath and Beyond coupon per item as a "competitor" coupon, so collect them from your friends and family before you go. definitely helps since they rarely send out buy buy baby coupons if you're on their mailing list.
Since we have a baby on the way, my wife and I now spend our evenings researching baby gear and our weekends going to baby-related stores. As far as baby-superstores (oxymoron?) go, I think Buy Buy Baby bests Babies R Us (how about that alliteration?).
They have just about every conceivable line of nursery furniture, strollers, clothes, sheets, etc., from the very high-end to the very economical. Also, blue-shirted salespeople are plentiful and friendly and make ordering items easy. They also have a very robust website.
I only wish there were one in the District, instead of out in the midst of Rockville Pike's strip mall hell.
