I'm not much of a meat eater but they have the best salads and salad dressing. Really good blue cheese. And the side dishes are yummy. Love the creamed spinach. Service is always excellent.

Have been here a few times, and every time the food is consistently good.  As someone who has tried all of Memphis' finer steakhouses, including Ruth Chris, Flemings, and Folks Folly - Butcher Shop is one of the best.  I'd put it only second to Folks Folly, but since you get your sides included with the meal, it makes it a bit cheaper.   Great meal.   Great steak. Great atmosphere.

Went for a company dinner here and the steak was ok.  Not the reaction I typically get from a famous or a real good steak house.  It's not a Outback, but doesn't fare for the $30+ a plate price tag.  I asked for a medium rare fillet.  The meat was cooked right, but it just didnt have that tender taste to it.  Which it means, the meat grade was probably a BLLAHHHazzzzzz.  So keep looking steak lovers.

The Butcher Shop has been a household Memphis name for many years, but most people associate this restaurant with its downtown location. For those of you who live in the 'burbs (like most of us) who are uninterested in making the trek to downtown Memphis, the Cordova location should suit your needs just fine.

As the name suggests, this restaurant caters to carnivores.  My nit-pickiness regarding my 8 oz. filet mignon is that I ordered it medium, but it was served medium rare. Not a deal breaker. My loaded baked potato made up for it. My favorite part of the meal was our well-chosen appetizer: crab-stuffed mushrooms. This is a must-have dish if you visit The Butcher Shop.

My greatest complaint is that we had a table of about 15 loud-mouthed, screeching hooligans next to us, but this wasn't the fault of the restaurant, of course. There were also a few servers who kept vacuuming near our table, which triggered my germ phobia; but again, not a deal breaker.

Meals are reasonably priced and service is excellent. The Butcher Shop is a good date place if you're not trying to knock your partner out with romanticism but you'd like to take him or her out for a hearty and filling meal.

Went last night - excellent prime rib, the boyfriend had a filet - also fabulous. We had excellent service too. Everything great from start to finish. Sauteed mushrooms are a must!

My husband and I went here for their lunch option not too long ago, and this place was killer.  For just $6.50 you can get your choice of a cheese burger, hamburger, chicken, salmon or blackened catfish.  This is insanely cheap- especially when you actually try the burger.  Freaking delicious.  The waiter informed us that they use the trimmings from the steaks to make the burger meat.  It definitely reflects in the way of taste.  These things are juicy, flavorful and delicious.  They also happen to be quite massive, and I couldn't even finish my entire sandwich.  I am a member of the clean plate club, have been all my life.  This is huge.  Especially since I am admitting my defeat in a public forum.

The lunch option is kind of like a buffet if you will.  You get a plate, toppings and a bun and then the chef will put the steaming hot beef patty right atop your bun.  Mmmm delicious.

The service was wonderful.  Fast and friendly despite the obvious lunch rush.  Judging by the crowd, this lunch spot is definitely not a secret.

The Butcher Shop has been around since the early 80's, satisfying Memphis diners at both their downtown location and the newer spot in Cordova.

The beef is aged 4 weeks before being cut, in house, and it's of the highest quality. They cook them over hickory smoked charcoals, resulting in a mouthwatering, very tender and juicy steak.

My personal favorite is the Gorgonzola and Portabella Stuffed Filet, cooked medium. Oh wow...talk about delicious. But all the cuts are wonderful, from the Porterhouse to the bone in New York strip. You can't go wrong.

The prices are reasonable - about $30 for an entree steak with a side. And the atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a great place for a nice evening out.

Overall I found the Butcher Shop to be a pretty decent Steak for the money.

The waitress was attentive and the prices were inexpensive. My only complaint was I asked for Medium Rare and she must have heard Medium Well, but I enjoyed it.

Being able to watch them cook the steaks on a big grill was an interesting experience.

The Butcher Shop is a great place to have a good steak- they range from $14-24. I like the atmosphere it's spacious with a nice bar area. The "cool factor" is you can cook your own steak on the big grill in the center of the restaurant or you can have the chef prepare it. I personally like mine cooked- after all I am dining out. Some people are picky about their steaks so they like the cook it themselves option.

It's also a great place for groups. They have several private dining rooms. We had our rehearsal dinner here years ago and had a great experience.

The Butcher Shop is an often looked over choice when my fiance and I are going out to eat, and that really is a shame. The steaks are good, and if memory serves me correctly they are not quite as expensive as somewhere like, say, Ruths Chris. The gratin potatoes are excellent. The decor is nice and they even have *bonus* - a patio that is quite nice in warmer months. (Where else is there outside dining in Cordova???)
The spinach artichoke dip is hands down the best in Memphis. I've even written to the Commercial Appeal trying to get the recipe; to no avail.
On Fridays the Butcher Shop opens for lunch and serves what arguably could be the best hamburger in town. (its a close tie with the cheeseburger @ J. Alexanders) The burgers are made from steak scraps that have been ground up and are very flavorful and juicy.

Sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive and served a good cocktail. The salad was a bit watery but the bread was freshly baked and hot. The baked potaoe was excellent as was the 8 oz. filet though it was slightly overcooked. I asked for medium rare and got medium.

I love great steak...well any good food for that matter. I'm writing about 2 occasions. First, my anniversary. Wife got the fillet medium well, closer to well, done perfectly. Me, rib eye, medium, extra seasoning, done perfectly. Came with a great salad(and I don't really like salads) and a baked potato, fully loaded. Everything was FANTASTIC!!!! Our waiter was very helpful and even brought a few wine samples for us to try for the ultimate experience. We went with the Shiraz. Everything was soooooo great. It did cost about $20 more than the national steak chain but that extra $ is well worth a perfect meal. Everything is cooked on a 6x15 foot hickory charcoal grill. You can cook your own if you'd like. The patio is also nice on a not-so-hot summer day.

Next, every Friday they have burgers at lunch from 11-2:30. These are NOT your average ground chuck, oh no. These are the trimmings off the fillets, new york strips, rib eyes, etc. They save them all week, grind them up and serve 1/2 pound burgers on Friday. It's like a buffet, you come in the front, get a plate, bun, toppings, chips, then the cook will put a burger on your bun right off the grill. I personally ask for one done medium because they normally cook them all the way. A bit dry with no seasonings so medium is much more tender. They can come with cheddar slices. Burger not your thing? You can get a pork chop, chicken breast, or fish fillet for the same price. I think it's about $6.50. You can get steak fries for another $2 and a drink for about the same. The burger is more than enough to full me up, a basket of fries is enough for at least 2 or 3 people. It's great for a luncheon or just to pamper yourself after a hard week. Or, just to get, quite arguably, the best burger in town.

on germantown parkway near the shelby showcase arena sits the butcher shop steakhouse.  At the butcher shop, you can select your steak or cut of meat from the case.  They even let you season and cook it yourself if you want on the big grill in the middle.  The day i went, i opted to let the chefs do it for me.  For the price they charge, i figured they had to be pretty decent at cooking it.  i got some specialty steak with blue cheese in the middle.  It was suggested by the waitperson that i have it cooked at medium rare to medium because that doneness suited the preparation that i had picked. normally, i'm a medium well girl (sorry, i don't like the cow to still be mooing at me).  i sat close to the kitchens and grills so i saw all the prepping of the food.  when my food was brought to me, it was good and hot.  the steak was decent.  it had a nice flavor. it was not the best steak i have ever had but it was good.  i had a baked potato with butter and sour cream and a salad with ranch.  the prices were high but not like folk's folly and ruth chris's steakhouse.   the service was decent and we were seated fairly quickly.  i think going at an off time for dinner probably helped.  i'm sure that they have nights where long waits are required.  The Butcher Shop is a decent option if you want a steak and want the control of cooking it yourself.    I, personally, would rather someone else cook it for me and me just stuff my face.
