This place rivals good Montreal steakhouses.
The waiters are always friendly, the steak is excellent and you'll love the variety of drinks. Unless you're between 18 and 21. In that case, just stay in Montreal.
The salad bar is pretty good, and for some reason American cottage cheese tastes much better than the one in Québec. Very odd. But in a tasty way.
There's not that much variety, but it doesn't really matter because you can't go wrong with the steak.
If you're in the area, definitely check it out. -

No no NO! Don't go here! Save yourself! Eat at the 99!! Way too pricey for the quality.

We like this place for the beef! Huge salad bar with soup- good service- reminds me of the old Steak & Ale- I enjoyed our french onion soup- we go here if we get the hankering for a good steak!

Butcher Block is, in my opinion, one of the best restaurants in Plattsburgh. In a town where nothing is really permanent and closings are a part of everyday life, Butcher Block has been a constant for years. Excellent salad bar, fantastic steak, and strong drinks make BB one of my favorites. It is fairly expensive though, as most steakhouses are, and it's really really dim--on my last visit, we took my grandparents and my grandma had to whip out a flashlight to read the menu! If you can deal with the limited lighting and loads of families and you're in Plattsburgh, check it out.

This is another favorite place to go with co-workers when the boss is visiting us (and paying for dinner). They have a wonderful salad/soup bar which usually fills you up so that by the time dinner comes you might as well tell them to wrap it! I haven't tried any other steak besides the prime rib and wasn't to impressed with it but I have pretty high standards for my steak. Last time I went I got a filet of sole that was stuffed with crab meat and hazelnuts which wasn't to bad it was an interesting combo, one co-worker got the butternut squash ravioli and recommended it. So, for the area its pretty good as far as steak houses go.

Stopped in after a long tiring day of travel and decided to just go somewhere close by our hotel. We found Butcher Block and we were pleasantly surprised. I recommend ordering off of the tavern menu if you are more price conscious. I had the grilled chicken sandwich, which was some of the most delicious chicken I have ever had. I ditched the bun after a while and just enjoyed the chicken and delicious mashed potatoes. They also have a great salad bar, which is reasonably priced. Give it a try if you are in the area.

I've been here several times and always ended up with a frown on my face. Perhaps it's because I ordered the wrong thing everytime (I've never tried the steak, but everything I've had was okay), or maybe I just hold a grudge against the waitress that gave me a shit load of $1's when I already had 6 in my wallet. I don't think the salad bar is great, at all. It's a normal, basic salad bar. I've heard that Anthony's is much better, but I haven't been there yet.
