AVOID BUSY BEE and if your agent suggests them, reconsider how with-it your agent is.
Busy Bee was one of the earlier staging companies in the city, but is certainly one of the lower quality. They basically seem to have a large stock of ikea furniture and a lot of not-very-attractive accessories with Marshal's stickers still on them which they throw randomly into whatever project they get.
I have seen some decent jobs done by busy bee early one-- nothing ground-breaking, but decent. It seems like the original core crew knew what they were doing, but lost touch as they expanded. Lately, though, their brand has become something of a derogatory short-form for really sloppy 'design.' I have known several sellers who actually moved the furniture out of their new construction units in order to improve the salability of their property. When I personally tried to call the management to resolve issues with my own property professionally, the owner started screaming at me and calling me and rambling on how 'karma will get me.' (Seems she confuses Buddhism with Voodoo). This without having any prior interaction and because I simply asked to have the vomit-stained rugs and broken, taped-together lamps they brought in replaced.
When I had such a difficult experience with the business, I initially assumed it to be out-of-line employees. However, the problem is clearly at the top. Here is a message the owner sent to me via yelp, which I think serves to illustrate the 'professionalism' one would expect in dealing with this company. Mind you, I have no idea whom this Katherine woman is, but I think it only serves to illustrate that the ownership is absolutely unwilling to accept responsibility for their own actions.

"wanna keep posting katharine? all evidence of your lunacy, all evidence that will come in front of the judge. get ready cause kharma is a bitch. you are one insane person. are you so desperate for business? your copycat company with your fake pictures and copycat ideas isn't working out for you? do you realize how pathetic your reviews are and how everyone sees through them? oh yeah, busybee was great when you worked for me since you are a nationally published designer! you are a joke. your company is a joke. your posts are a joke. and you are playing with the wrong person. keep sending posts, the more the better it will be for me when all is exposed and your subpeoned into court. get a lawyer darling cause you will need one, the papers are coming and we're going to trial:)"
SO... that only further reiterates my experience. Being unskilled is bad enough, but this is another level of inappropriate.
As for other staging companies, I have no experience with the Voila people the owners of Busy Bee want to trash, but friends have had great experience with Matthew Izzo and many furniture stores are willing to offer reduced prices and free design services if you order a fair bit at once. Often, it can be a better deal than paying $3k/month. So do research.
I must agree with Charles N., stay away from Busybee Design at all cost. At one time they were on top. They came highly recommended by a friend of mine, who had her home done by them in the past. When it came to my home, all I can say is how is this company still in business. The lack of professionalism and poor workmanship was unbelievable. They left my home damaged. From Scratches in the hardwood floors, to nickle sized holes in the walls, you name it, they did it. Then to top it off, the furniture they sold me, which was suppose to be brand new, started falling apart in less then a month after I brought it. I've tried to talk with the owners about having some of the pieces replaced, but instead of getting any type of professional answer, I get hung up on. Well let's see if they hang up on my lawyer so easily. And just to let you know, I'm not the only one suing them. With a little research I was able to find quite a few people who have had this problem with them. Apparently during their so called long and wonderful career, they have had the habit of doing some clients homes really well and others extremely poorly. Take my warning very seriously, STAY AWAY FROM THEM.. If you don't, you might get lucky and end up with a well done job or you may end up with a total disaster on your hands. Oh and I notice Charles N. Quoted a reply from Anna P... Anna P. I hope you will have a good explanation, for my lawyer when he gives you a call pretty soon. Don't bother harassing me, I'll just ignore you, like you did me.!
