Eric, Valerie, and Burns wandered into Burton's after seeing Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3D down at the Regal Fenway (yes, we are in our twenties). We wanted to try a new place, and after a quick look at the menu outside decided that this was it.
The atmosphere in Burton's is great. The lighting is cozy, the large bar is perfectly decorated with assorted bottles, and the tables each had a little candle on them. One of the waitresses actually came over to light the candle when we were there as it was just getting to dinner time and literally turned to Burns and said "can I light your fire?" which we all found hilarious.
The men ordered some beer, and Valerie stuck to water. We placed an order of the eggrolls for an appetizer; they arrived quickly and were delicious. The two of us split a main course as we weren't particularly starving (Eric having downed a humongous bucket of popcorn at the movies) and were also trying to save a little bit of cash. We got the turkey club sandwich which came with french fries, both of which were very good. The portion size was large enough that the half plate was filling for both of us.
The best part about the experience though, were the "celebrity sightings." During the course of our dinner, Red Sox outfielder Jason Bay came in with his adorable daughter to grab his take-out, and pitcher Daniel Bard came in with some companions and was seated in the back of the restaurant. While this is probably typical on game days, it was great to see some of the players in person. Also, the waitstaff (who despite the somewhat upscale feel are allowed to wear Sox t-shirts on game days) were very nonchalant about serving the players. The somewhat intoxicated woman sitting at the bar, however, decided it would be a good idea to make a scene and yell across the place at Bay, who waved and then left with his food.
In short...seems classy, but great food at decent prices (and quieter than the other Fenway-area bars).
my experience here was EXTREMELY positive.
i came with two of my celiac friends, and they treated the gluten-free brunch bunch extremely well. The manager brought out all the gluten-free stuff, they were able to make a number of different dishes gluten-free even if they weren't already listed as such (they didn't have a specific gluten-free brunch menu), but the server was knowledgeable and they even had different special gluten-free plates so you knew they weren't contaminated. my friends were served gluten-free rolls and were provided with a host of gluten-free menu options.
i, on the other hand, got to gluten it up to my heart's content. instead of gluten-free rolls i received delicious blueberry mini-muffins and out of control tasty white chocolate mini-scones. i ordered pancakes and since i don't eat pork they subbed in extra raspberries and strawberries no extra charge. Also, since I'm clearly a 5 year old, I ordered chocolate milk to go with my pancakes. Not only was it huge (a full pint glass of chocolate milk), but it was also JUST the right chocolate: milk ratio. you may not think that chocolate milk is that hard to screw up, but as a connoisseur of chocolate milk i must say that was one of the more positive experiences i've had ordering it.
kudos, burton's. attentive and informed waitstaff, tasty food, and tho the pricing may be a little on the higher end, it's not unreasonable for what you get.
Well, I can begin with the good by saying their Pumpkin Martini=hot, holy heaven. SOOOOO delicious. I was licking the glass with my finger post drink. Mmmm.
Secondly, their Risotto Fritters also equals a whole lotta yummy. Not too heavy, just enough cheese left me craving more.
But then, well....there was the service. I had the feeling we were unwelcome here. It was as if our arrival was an annoyance, and we were the most out-of-control group to arrive (which we were a small, quite group). I don't quite know what the deal was...but...their hospitality was not overwhelming.
I'll probably give this place a second shot. But there's no fire under my rear to make it happen.
Went here for dinner the other night and this place was pretty good. It was after the Sox lost in their post season series. So the area wasn't very cheerful, but everyone was still very nice and distracted by the football game that was playing on TV at the moment.
We started with the calamari which was really just ok. Not too exciting. I got the cobb salad which was very tasty actually and my boyfriend got the rib-eye with baked potato and broccoli. Our wine was good and reasonably priced.
Overall, nothing too fantastic, but just a good meal.
I've been to Burton's a couple of times, and it seems to be the perfect 3 star restaurant. It isn't anything too exciting, but if you are in the neighborhood, it isn't a bad place to eat.
The food is pretty good; in terms of the steaks, they are a couple of steps up from Longhorn. The bread is excellent. The main issue I have had on both of my visits is the service. The hostess and servers have been friendly, and the servers are usually pretty attentive during the first part of the meal. However, after the entree comes, they tend to disappear. If you are in a hurry, this is very annoying.
Stopped in for dinner and drinks before a rock show at House of Blues and was pleasantly surprised.
Service was great all around, from the front of house staff taking our name then getting us when the table was ready, to the bartenders, to the servers.
Had a very good burger and it came out pretty quick, considering it was also a game night and the place was packed.
Seems like a relatively upscale but not too snooty place (the servers were rocking Sox shirts...not sure if this is an everyday thing or only on game days).
I'd go here again, although for pre-game I much prefer my favorite the infamous Cask n' Flagon (I like beer in plastic bottles and standing around in groups of dudes talkin' baseball and bustin' balls).
But if you're in the area and in the mood for a slightly elevated dining experience from the normal Fenway fare, check it out.
Friday 8pm overcast.. Got a table easily. Music was cool, decor was fine and the food and presentation was very good. Id go back.. The swordfish with rissoto was perfect! The philly roll app was yummy and the iceberg wedge shared was good and plenty.. I shall return!
My first visit to Burton's was a big success. A couple of friends and I went on a Friday night for dinner and I was surprised that it wasn't crowded at all. We did sit inside though, and it was so nice out, the outdoor seating was pretty crowded. Since that area isn't all that pretty to look at, I had no intentions of trying to get a table outside. My friends are both gluten free so we chose this restaurant because of their gluten free menu and one of my friends had already eaten their successfully.
We were seated promptly and our server was very attentive. The manager came over to talk about the gluten free menu to let us know that they were very careful about making sure there would be no issues for us.
I ordered the chicken roulade, chicken breast wrapped around veggies and manchego cheese, over lobster risotto. It was absolutely delicious. The only thing I noticed was that the lobster was overcooked, but otherwise it was absolutely fantastic. I was comfortable halfway through the dish and should've taken the rest home, but I couldn't help myself and finished it off.
One friend had a burger on a gluten free bun, which they did not warm up first, so it fell apart. They did however warm the buns when they served them to us as dinner rolls. They should definitely warm them before they serve them on a sandwich. My other friend ordered a salad. I didn't notice if it was good or not because I just don't eat salad for dinner. That's probably why she's a size two and I'm not! Anyway, definitely check out Burton's. I know it's received mixed reviews here, but I really enjoyed it.
Okay, I've now also tried the fried calamari. Delish! Fresh tasty squid and delicate breading. I've also tried the plain old cheeseburger (there were definitely many interesting options on the GF menu, but I felt like a burger)...tasty patty and veg, but mediocre bun. It was the same bun that they served before our food came out, but wasn't warmed, so it crumbled apart.
They also a potato-vodka flavored with blueberries. It was just too blueberry for me and tasted like cough syrup, but my friend also got it and loved it. so to each their own...give it a try!

Burton's has officially struck out.
I always give a restaurant another chance, but Burton's is 0 for 3. The first time I went my dinner took forever and was cooked to hell. The second time was for lunch and the results were the same as the first.
The third time was the clincher. The waitress took forever to come over to us, she apologized in advance of any problems for whatever she did because she was very hung over. The food took a long time foe eggs Benedict, and mine was as undercooked as you could served a poached egg without it being raw, so it was sent back. They simply took my eggs and threw them back into the poaching liquid so I got one egg that was simply poached egg whites, and another that was cooked all the way through. They were served on the same plate with now cold and soggy toast. The bloody Mary was made by a novice. Anyone can mix tomato juice with horseradish, add a splash of vodka, but they told us how good their bloody Mary was.
Both my wife and I received overripe fruit on the side of our plat as a garnish. This fruit would be in the trash in any restaurant that respects it diners.
To
OMG, a gluten-free burger (on a toasted gluten-free BUN, people) and beer before a Sox game? A-mazing.
The server, who was possibly the manager, put the burger down in front of me and I looked at my friend like, how does one eat a burger? That's how long it's been since I've had a burger in a restaurant. Needless to say, I figured it out. The fries were good albeit a bit salty for my taste.
On another occasion I had the cobb salad and a zucchini appetizer which were both delish.
Now, if only I could get the gf beer INSIDE Fenway...
This review is just for the bar based on a few experiences; I have eaten in the dining area once only. The bartender have all been very professional but with a laid back attitude (the neighood type). They did a great job with drinks ranging from blueberry martini's to pear infused vodka and crown manhattans. We've ordered appetizers at the bar and really enjoy the scallops. Give them a try.
My experience in the dining area was ok. I have to try it again before writing up a review on it.
When this chain gruel shop opened in my neighborhood I was wary. It took almost 2 years before I actually went. The first time was fine. Every time after that got progressively worse. The food is lousy and wicked expensive. The staff and service just flat out sucks. If you're looking for a good meal go to Petit Robert in Kenmore. Otherwise, just go across the street to Shaws and cook at home, it will be better and cheaper than the slop they serve at Burtons. PS. Gluten free is for losers.
I was going to have a cast party here after one of our shows at a local venue. There would be guaranteed 25 people eating and drinking and going on for a few hours. LOTS of drinks= lots of money.
I was told by the very nice waitress that the manager could not come out of a "meeting" in her office to greet me, but that I was to be told that "Red Sox fans are our number one priority on game day and that I couldn't be promised a reservation for a group because we wouldn't be celebrating the game."
Firstly, the game was a 1pm game and at most it would last about 4 hours. That's 5pm. Then an hour and a half at most really for having a beer and some after game apps. 6:30. We didn't plan to arrive until after 7pm.
Secondly, I was giving you guaranteed business. You can't count on Sox people after the game. They often just want to get the hell out of the area.
Thirdly, the nice people at Cambridge 1 insured us a whole section of booths and gave us plenty of waitstaff and didn't blink an eye when we said we might have some under 18 year olds in the mix (considering that both places are FAMILY restaurants.
Fourthly, I went by your establishment after that game during our cast party and you had about 8 people at your bar and approximately nine tables sat. You weren't even 1/4 full. Meanwhile because of our group and the sox players wanting a quick beer Cambridge 1 was totally hoppin' and full and probably made a crap ton of money.
Fifthly, we ended up with 42 people in our cast party. And they accommodated that no sweat. Our bill ended up being over $800. If we had gone to you guys, of course the total would have been more because of your prices that are too high for what you are serving.
Sixthly, I ate lunch at your establishment while waiting for the manager to get out of her meeting and chat with me before you dissed our group and told us we weren't your priority (again sorry to the nice waitress who had to pass along this message, it wasn't her fault). Your steak sandwich was about a 2 star. The fries were burnt and tasted oily and the bread was the highlight of the sandwich. Your dill butter for the bread basket that I had to ASK FOR was the highlight of the whole meal, unfortunately. But your attitude gives you a zero star review, so that combined with what I ate equals a one star, but just barely.
Seventhly, while six wait staff were on duty, only one seemed to be working covering three tables inside and two outside and one couple was sat in the far corner outside table and waited and waited for about 25 mins without anyone ever going over to them, then they wrote a note, left it under a silverware roll and left. I'm DYING to knwo what it said, but imagine it wasn't nice.
You better get your priorities straight, Burton's Grill. You are in an up-and-coming neighborhood. You aren't there yet, and there are a dozen places I will go to before EVER stepping foot back in your shack again.
Great place especially for those with food allergies and/or celiac. They are very aware of cross contamination issues and even have a gluten free menu!
The homemade french fries are excellent and the atmosphere is really nice.
I.Am.So.Full. I took my boyfriend here tonight for his birthday--success!
Appetizer:
Philly Spring Rolls--basically mini cheese steaks in the form of spring rolls. Ya dig? How creative! They were mighty tasty. They also came with onion rings...yum!
Entree:
Land and Sea-- filet mignon and scallops with a side of broccoli and a baked sweet potato. The filet was cooked perfectly--medium rare. I'm still on the fence about scallops in general, sometimes I like them, sometimes I don't. With that, the scallops were okay. I know this is weird but I really liked the seasoned broccoli...like, really. Sweet potato was a sweet potato.
Dessert:
Passion fruit sorbet. Perfect ending to the meal, as I was already full to the brim and I needed something refreshing...
My date ordered the chocolate chip bread pudding to add to the damage. I'm still very confused about what bread pudding is exactly...but anything with melted chocolate wins.
I really liked the atmosphere, not stuffy at all--casual enough but you could get dressy if you wanted to. Comfy booth seating. Our server was nice. I will definitely come back here again.
What Burton's does, it does well. Still, given the price and lack of variety on the menu, there are some better options in the Fenway area. Seafood here is good as well, but I've had better.
The waitstaff is well trained and very friendly. and the decor is calm, upscale-ish and relaxed.
I am eating a mostly vegetarian diet with meat occasionally. Now, it is understandable that a vegetarian probably isn't going to find much available at what is mostly a steak house, but they could certainly stand to add a few more options. Most of the salads contained bacon, and there was really only one vegi entree and one appetizer.
Grilling means more than meat and contemporary American cuisine contains a large variety of fantastic vegetable options.
While I certainly wouldn't avoid Burton's, It wouldn't be my first choice - even if I were going for a burger.
I came here expecting overpriced food but I was pleasantly surprised. The Sunday brunch was delicious, the portions are good sized and the prices are reasonable. You can get a good brunch plate for $10-12 but there are also more expensive dishes. The french toast was amazing.
The atmosphere is surprisingly pleasant. There is a lot of room in this place, they also have room to accommodate large groups. The drinks are a bit pricey but the menu is large. The service we had was also excellent. I wouldn't have expected to but I will come back here.
If you go, order something with fries. They are the perfect spicy/potato combination.
Burton's Grill surprised me. I thought it was going to be common American steakhouse but its quite lovely.
The decor is really nice and I guess elegant in the sense that its not like a Buckaboo Creek or Outback. I had reservations for 830pm but the hostess said they were running a bit late and we would be seated at 835 instead ( although we didnt get seated till 850pm)
But no worries, hung out at the bar and the bartenders are soo nice. Chatted up with the guy next to us who asked to watch the UFC fights (his friend was fighting)
The Ketel One Cosmo was very tasty!
The Onion Soup was delicious and the breadstick with cheese on it was a nice complement.
The iceberg salad looked great. the presentation was neat.
The bread they give you to fill up on before you meal comes, o man, the butter was something. it was like garlic butter perhaps, but i slabbed it all over my bread.
The chianti wine was divine. Their Trinchero pinot noir leaves you flavorless.
Like a few reviews mentioned, I went into merely for the 2 for $22 special. 2 9oz. filets and 2 baked potatoes . I thought the food was great. Filets were cooked to our preference and baked potatoes came soft and piping hot with your choice of sour cream and chives on top or with bcacon and cheese.
I have to give a shout out to our waitress Alex. She was so so awesome. Not too overbearing and just knew the right things to say. She was an absolute doll.
Overall, a great Wednesday night with the boy.
Burton's was recommended by friends as a good place to eat on the way to Fenway Park, so we stopped by before the McCartney concert the other night (was great, BTW). I almost didn't go in because they looked like they were slammed, but the hostess was able to get us seated in less than 10 minutes. My wife and I split a steak frites and tomato and mozzarella salad and each had a few glasses of wine. The steak and fries were very good ... the steak came with a yummy cheese sauce on the side. The salad was OK but the tomatoes were not quite ripe. The low-end wines by the glass were in the $7 range and hit the spot. The service was excellent. Our server was extremely attentive and got us out of there in time to catch the first tune. If I'd had more time, I would have enjoyed sitting outside on Boylston and people-watching.
Burton's is a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.
It's your typical dark, off-light dining room with huge bouncy booth seats and inoffensive beats playing in the background. The service, as has been stated in other reviews, really makes it a standout.
The stuffed zuchini appetizer is among one of the best I have ever tried. It's light yet super interesting and flavorful, and involves two different kinds of cheese. Nothing that involves two cheeses can go too terribly wrong.
Their gingerbread and pumpkin martinis, while not actual martinis, are REALLY effing tasty. Yeah, so sue me, i had a flamboyant girlie drink. But damn, they were tasty.
They have Mark West Pinot noir, actually reasonably priced by the glass, which was the perfect wine to go with the "Land and Sea", a fabulous pairing of a perfectly grilled filet mignon and a crab cake. Their crab cake is right up there with the best I've ever tasted. Something like 90% crab meat - it's definitely worth going back for. The filet was a teensy bit dry, but what are you gonna do, it's a filet. For a side, definitely try the cucumber salad - exquisitely thin little slices of cucumber flavored with dill and a tart vinegary dressing.
The GF had the San Francisco-style seafood stew - which was huge and tomato-y and full of big tasty seafoods like shrimp and calamari and scallops.
A great scotch is a great way to end a great meal, and they have a decent selection of single-malts. Macallan 12-year for me, thank you.
Why not on a Tuesday, huh?
I'm in the "Meh" camp. It's a handsome room with lots of booths (some tables), and a great, polished stone bar. The place has a very suburban strip mall gesalt, which I guess makes sense since this is their only in-town location, the others being Hingham, North Andover, South Windson CT and, hello, Virginia Beach.
I've had lunch at the Fenway Burton's four times, and each time it's been... adequate. Not awful, but undistinguished in the food dept, portions a bit skimpy, apps, sandwiches and salads over-priced by $2-4 a plate. I don't drink and am not gluten-sensitive, so I'll take others' words on those subjects. Note the above comments about the "foreground" music and patio dining amid the racket and fumes of Boylston St.
Apparently the Fenway Burton's has an unadvertised special "buy one entree, get one free" _during_ (not before or after) Red Sox home games. That might be a good time to check it out, especially if you're into steak and martinis. The Green Line Fenway stop is right around the corner, but a word to the wise: Get on board before the game ends.
We came for Sunday brunch right at 11am before a movie. It was empty and one would think that would mean quick service. I know we took some time to order, and a bunch of other tables arrived while we were deciding but we didn't get fed til about 12pm. Service was SLOW.
But the atmosphere was decent - it's big with lots of nice natural light. Our booth was comfy. The server was pleasant enough. And the food was quite good - I had the American Breakfast and liked that it came with great multigrain bread and fruit salad standard. It was a totally solid value and yummy. -Two stars for the slow service, though.
Good food, great martinis !
I've been here many times and haven't been disappointed. The ambiance is nice, but not at all stuck up. The rolls and garlic butter are fabulous, and are probably my favorite part - be sure to ask for them!
My favorite meal is the land and sea - but it's a little pricey. I've also had a few of their fish entrees and they are very fresh and tasty. The only thing I've had that I wasn't too excited about was the Tuscan chicken. It was a little bland.
We live right by this place and have been there a few times as a result. Our consensus: this sub-par food is really expensive. drinks too. A small menu, overpriced everything and crappy sangria have forced me to give this place my lowest Yelp rating ever. Go to Cambridge 1 next door for some good pizza and beer.
I went with Melibu and her man for dinner before the game. The company gets 5 stars, natch. Burtons, however, gets a solid 3.5. My martini was quite delish, but at $12, it ought to be. My sandwich was quite tasty too. However, Burtons will have a chance to earn another star next week when we go back again before the game.
PS: I like how the servers all had on sox shirts.
I thought the food here was excellent, especially for the price, slotting somewhere between a longhorn's and a higher end steakhouse like cap. grill or S&W, with an atmosphere much more like the latter. There are plenty of non steak options as well, as my girlfriend got the vegetable risotto and loved it.
The bread is amazing - but be sure to ask for it - they do not serve automatically.
Burton's has several other restaurants around the state. I highly suggest you check one of them out.
Um. Mama and Papa Gary really like Burton's. The Young Garies like Burton's...but not REALLY.
The risotto balls (or whatever they call them) were really yummy. But they were fried and full of cheese, so that's kind of hard to mess up.
The martinis were good. But again, they are full of Grey Goose and lemon twist so that's hard to mess up.
The entrees were...fine. But I felt like the elder Garies were paying a lot (and we're grateful) for stuff that's just...fine. In a kind of prefab atmosphere. WIth that really annoying "hip" restaurant music that is kind of this mix between Enya and techno. Hipster-danceable-jazz for the over 35 set. Or something. You know what I mean.
That place is what it is.
P.S. Why do you have to ask for bread? Whatever. Ask because it's really tight. Also, the service was really nice. And attentive. Like when Papa Gary broke a martini glass and they set up flares and caution tape to make sure it was cleaned up properly. So, we exaggerate.
I've been raging Burtons long before the Fenway location opened. I'm a firm believer that this place is solid all around. In fact I've never gotten anything that i haven't been happy with... until i tried them for brunch.
For the most part the staff is great, some people there go above and beyond. For example my roommate and I were there on a slow Friday night and we started talking up the bar tender about vodka. We couldn't ID all the different vodka bottles on the top shelf of the bar. The bar tender told us about the 2 mystery bottles and offered us a taste. I now know about Hammer and Sickle vodka which is hands down the best Vodka I've ever had the chance to taste. It seriously makes Grey Goose taste like Poland springs. So that was amazing. I'm totally hooked, I've already been back twice to get that amazing vodka straight up.
I've gotten burgers, salads, steaks, fish and shellfish as well as a seafood stew at Burton's and i would order every item again. I love this place cause its not gonna break the bank. Its a fresh of breathe air to chain of casual dining restaurants.
However, and this is the reason for the lack of the 5Th star. I went for brunch ( which to they're credit, they've only started doing recently) and it was not good. I order the crab cakes eggs Benedict which is my favorite brunch item to eat. The crab cake was good, the holindaise was great, the eggs... where so over cooked , that they came out hard boiled.
If you're gonna be open for brunch, please train your staff on how to properly poach an egg. That's kind of a cornerstone of a brunch spot.
So that spoiled the perfect image of Burtons in my mind. Go for dinner, and elsewhere for brunch.
The service here is one of their strongest points. The food is good, don't get me wrong, but the service is so warm and fuzzy it overshadows the memory of the food by a good bit. We had a large party (another birthday, read my scathing review of Z-Square to find out why this is relevant) and they had two servers covering us with guest appearances made by a third. None of us ran dry. Everything was done with a smile and genuine courtesy.
The food, at least what I had, was a mix of average (the Haddock Imperial was a little sub-par for my taste) and superb (the green beans were like a whole new vegetable that I'd never had before).
The drinks are GREAT. The whole party was pleasantly surprised with their selections and the portions. We all left in walking, not driving condition.
Just got back from dinner at Burton's. Each time I go, it gets progressively better. Tonight was almost perfect.
Dinner was served with our friend Al Fresco. So nice to sit outside in the nice weather. A plus for Burton's: their outdoor furniture is almost as comfy as the stuff inside. I mean, for $25/plate, who wants to sit on plastic KMart chairs?
I ordered the crabcakes, which came with super fresh haricot vert (you know, string beans from a nicer neighborhood...), and a really huge steamy baked potato. The crabcakes were moist, flavorful, and surprisingly NOT greasy. All good things :)
One small peeve: I ordered a glass of iced tea which was continually refilled, but lacked the "iced" part. Summer nights require cold drinks. I think it's in the Bible somewhere. They'll get there, or I'll just be more pushy next time...
Great service (sit wherever Chris is serving). Great filet mignon--we went on the $22 for 2 filet special (thanks for looking out, yelp events!) and enjoyed ourselves. It was a nice way to break up a week. Rolls are great, especially the herbed butter accompanying them. I'm not mad at them. I'd eat there again, but I'd def eat there again for a $22 special!
It won't be filling the vacuum left by the loss of restaurant row, but it's decent, if not pricey, eats. It's a very forgettable restaurant. The decor is pretty standard and possibly pilfered from the around-the-corner West Elm. The waitstaff is efficient and friendly. I knew exactly what I was going to get food-wise. Tasty but forgettable. I don't think I'd go if not for the 2 for $22 anniversary special.
Meh.
I'd heard and read lots of great things about Burton's. I recently had to head back to West Elm to return a slew of stuff that I realized I couldn't justify paying for, and figured hey, let's hit up Burton's around the corner while we're over here.
Ambiance, very nice. Big televisions in the bar for watching the game, very nice. Our waiter who was very nice, very attentive, and who read us in a snap and found it definitely acceptable to make a slightly inappropriate comment, a plus.
Hubby started with the steak and cheese spring rolls, while I ordered the stuffed zucchini. His came out first (I made sure to have it this way because we were both famished and mine was going to take a while) and they brought over hot bread straight from the oven to tide me over until mine was ready. He said the spring rolls were really good, and while the bread wasn't a home run, the herb butter that was served along with it made it damn tasty. My zucchini didn't take as long as they prepared me for. Rolled and stuffed with herb cheese, then set in a tomato sauce with parm, it had a really nice flavor. I'm a texture freak, and while I didn't notice or mind it, hubby took one bite and passed on any more because it 'crunched like dirt' in your ears.
As for the entree, we split the chicken over risotto and because I'm a carb addict, I got a side of cous cous. The chicken was just ok, the risotto was fantastic, and the cous cous was just ok. This is the second time I've ordered cous cous (I think the first time was at Mooo) and it is not cous cous at all! More like pasta. Do I need to bring back real cous cous from Morocco for these people? I didn't mind thte pasta-like texture, but I definitely would have preferred the real deal.
The menu didn't really appeal to me as a whole for two reasons: there was a lot of proscuitto and a lot of mushrooms. Two things I cannot choke down.
As for the drinks, we were given an argument I've never heard before about why there were no beers on tap. They said it was because they like everything "fresh" and therefore refused to put in taps so the beer wouldn't be sitting in the kegs. I mean, it makes sense, but I thought the explanation was kind of odd.
I wasn't in the mood for wine, and I didn't want bottled beer, so I opted for the pomegranate martini. I don't even remember drinking the first one, I downed it so frickin fast. And the two that followed? So tasty. I'll go back for those if I'm in the area again, that's for sure.
Speaking of going back, let's go back to the service. This is why I'm giving Burton's 3 stars and not 2. The service was outstanding. Kudos! Now, just improve your menu please :)
Nothing exciting or special here. I wouldn't object going here if others insisted, but I find the food and drinks subpar. I'd rather traipse to Church's or Longhorn's, which are just a few skips away. I might try the brunch though--always on the lookout for a good brunch place.
Who ever knew this place existed!?!? It's SO great!
It's a great place to get a nice dinner before the game...fenway is about 2 blocks away. It would be ideal for a business lunch/dinner too - nice big tables, and quite. Outdoor seating was fabulous - my only complaint being that the umbrella rod got in the way of me talking to the person sitting diagonally from me, but I got over it. The bar inside looked very inviting with its marble top and flat screen TV. The drink list is PHENOMENAL - especially for the ladies- delish martinis and mojitos - served in a nice big glass which is rare for Boston. Our server, John, was also really great - attentive, but not annoying. The whole waitstaff wears red sox T's on game days which is fun!!
I got the Mediterranean salad with grilled shrimp. It was an awesome salad - lots of finely chopped veggies and not a whole lot of lettuce. I was left satisfied and not disgustingly full. Highly recommend this place!
Excellent food, outstanding service and festive and upscale (without the snobbiness) atmosphere.
Try the steak and cheese spring rolls, the mushroom ravioli, the haddock, the burton's burger, the tilapia or the Cobb salad.
Brunch on saturday and sundays 11am-3pm. Best brunch in the area. MMM so good.
Drinks... good!! (but not the lemon vodka/limoncello drink...)
Bread... good!!
Food... mmm mmm good!
Service... great.
I'm torn about reviewing b/c this great restaurant seems to be a hidden gem at this new location. My friends and I got a table w/o a reservation. We quickly ordered drinks, and dove into the menu. While the menu seems medium to small (in terms of what is offered), I'm going to bet that most everything on there is prepared with the utmost care. The sides are an additional bonus (I had the red bliss mashed potatoes and broccoli... both were cooked to perfection. The potatoes had some skin, some chunks to let me know that someone HANDMADE these potatoes, and the broccoli was tender but not overcooked). The main dish? the imperial haddock (a HUGE piece of haddock, slathered/stuffed with crab, then baked with breadcrumbs on top. OMG it was good). The servings are so big, that if you want an app or dessert, you should probably share an entree.
So my review is a little biased because I went here for Restaurant Week a few months ago. My whole meal was only 33 bucks, but it was fantastic.
The service is great and the bread they give you before you order is delicious, I ordered the rare tuna as my appetizer, the steak with mashed potatoes as my entree, and chocolate flourless cake with grand marnier sauce.
The tuna was my favorite part of the meal, it was tender with sesame seeds on the outside and served with delicious seaweed salad. The steak was also very good although it was cooked more medium rare than medium like I ordered it. The cake was very good too, my boyfriend got the strawberry shortcake and I tried some and was jealous.
Even though it was restaurant week they didn't scimp on the portions, our waiter was super nice and explained all the dishes and came out all the time to refill our water/soda. Definitely worth trying even if you pay full price!
Service: Really slow, but it was just before a Red Sox game (wouldn't you think it might be quicker though?)
Food: Seemed mediocre enough, however if your a vegetarian, you will have a splendid choice of the generic pasta or else a salad (oh wait, I think they all have bacon...)
Overall not that impressed, scored some points because they have a bar (easy to not screw up), and the waiter was quick to keep the glasses full.
