tiny spot that is always packed, you know the food has to be good!

the prices are cheap, and the food is really great...ask about the daily specials, ive had a lot of different things, and they are always great, the vegan chili among them

i dont like to eat there though, the space is really crowded and just two customers waiting on carry out will have you feeling like youre sharing your dinner with strangers....but delivery is quick!!!

ordered the grilled steak burrito and a side of guacamole.

burrito was large and met my expectations; guac was good and worth the $4.55

service was fast; was in and out in just about 10 minutes.

not too much room to sit & eat; but great for grabbing a quick bite.

I love this little hole in the wall! It's such a perfect place to stop in to grab something to eat. I'm not sure what other Mexican places are in the area, but I'm sure this is the best! Quick service, good price, simple and easy.

The help yourself chips and salsa are a nice, casual touch too!

I rate this as a "eh, I'm lazy and it's edible and within a 3-block radius." I wouldn't otherwise go here if it weren't nearby. It's kinda pricey for what you get (~$7 for two black bean tacos with not much else inside them) and not particularly inspiring or delicious. If I want better mexican, I'll trek down to Lime Jungle.

I love this place.  I go here a couple times a week.  It is a little hole in the wall place that is clean, serves good Mexican food, with a large menu and fast service.  They do not mess around, the serve a very consistent product and you will be in and out in 5 minutes.
I am a big fan of the quesadillas.  They serve them with fresh salsa, pico de gallo, guacamole and sour cream - all on the side so your food isn't a soggy mess when you get it home.

Definitely a place I miss since moving out of the City, and some of the best takeout in the neighborhood. I especially miss their salsa, and their tofu sour cream. Burritos are huge - sometimes enough for two meals! Their chili is also pretty decent.

The delivery is fast and easy, which I like, and the people at the register knew me well enough to put my order in before I even told them what I wanted.

As other reviewers mention, this is a bit of a hole-in-the-wall; when I got there the tiny dining/ordering area was completely packed, though there were probably only ten people in there.  I'd picked this place based on the availability of lots of vegan burrito options, and they delivered on that.  I ended up getting an organic seitan burrito, and they happily subbed in tofu sour cream and soy cheese for the "real" stuff.  The seitan was really good, nicely seasoned.  Could have done without the soy cheese, though; it was one of those electric orange ones that tastes faintly of crayons to me.  Always glad to find an omnivorous restaurant (hm, would that mean the restaurant eats anything?) that caters to vegans, though, so I appreciate that from Burrito Box.  Overall a good burrito but probably not worth a trek across town just to eat here (esp. since you'll probably have to take your meal to-go with the tiny dining space).

This place is AWESOME. They have a large and varied menu (portabello mushroom burrito for example) with some healthy substitutes such as soy cheese, brown rice and whole wheat pita - basically a far better menu than Chipotle.

The pricing is good and the service is speedy. I love the free chips and fresh salsa that comes with every order. If you work in the area this is a fantastic lunch option.

Beware of the post-lunch food coma that will definitely consume you...so satisfyingly.

Take out was invented to make you happy.  It's supposed to take you away from your job, divorce, impending lawsuit, etc. to a place of palatable bliss at a reasonable price.

Burrito Box is my happy place.  Whether it's the burritos or the tacos or the quesadillas; anything you order here will bring joy to your life.  I used to frequent the 'Box 2-3 times a week when I worked in the area, and it's always a pick-me-up, never a let-me-down.

The staff is professional and efficient, and they'll quickly prepare your food in order to expedite the problem-forgetting, face-gorging, happiness-injecting eating process.

As implied by the name, the place is literally a "box," with about 6 chairs.  You can't place orders for pick-up, as they don't even have room for the bags o' food.

Save money on therapists and eat more Burrito Box!

Burrito Box was a great find by my office.  Their burritos are giganticcc though.  I prefer to get the tacos, love the guac, love the flavor.  They do not skimp on ingredients (although with their burritos, they do overdo it on the rice).

Plus you can't beat the speedy service and the complimentary all-you-can eat chips and salsa.  Their salsa is nice and spicy too, with lots of cilantro and onion.

Me and my buddies go there whenever we're in the mood for something salty and spicy.  It's too bad I quit my job and have no real reason to be in the neighborhood anymore =(

-1 star for price.. it can get expensive (especially if you insist on having guac with everything--like me)

Solid 4 Stars--no doubt.

I always get their burritos (shocking, I know) and I am never disappointed.  I wouldn't recommend going here if you are in the mood for Mexican, because it is a far cry from authentic cuisine, but it is super yummy.

My 2 favorites are the veggie burrito and the grilled chicken burrito.  Both of them have cucumber, carrot, mesclun and sprouts. The veggie has avocado and vinaigrette, while the chicken has chipotle mayo.  They are always fresh, and my absolute favorite thing about their chicken is that it tastes like chicken and has the consistency that chicken is supposed to have. No mystery meat here, or VERY convincing mystery meat anyway.
They also give you a side of fresh tortilla chips and salsa.

The downsides are that the place is tiny, and there are high tops inconveniently placed in the "dining room" which makes it awkward to maneuver even from door to counter.  Also, they a touch on the pricey side for me, but I guess that's just because I am a Brooklyn girl living in Manhattan's world.  And finally, their fresh salsa has a lovely flavor that is unnecessarily mauled by spice.  The heat totally ruins what could easily be light and delicious...yet it doesn't stop me from eating it....

Give it a try, I bet you'll like it.  I know I'll be back for more.

Roses are red
My tits aren't small
When I move uptown
I'll miss this most of all
I love it here more than I love Andrew Keegan
Salads, burritos--you can even go vegan
It's a hole in the wall, with free chips and such
Thank you Burrito Box--I'll miss you so much.

Ok...moment of truth--I maaybe may have renewed my lease this past year in my Hell's Kitchen apartment just so that I could keep ordering delivery from Burrito Box. Maybe. Nothing made me happier than ordering a burrito, vegan chili, or an amazing taco salad after a long day, and having it at my door in less than 10 minutes (record was 6 minutes--of course i timed it).  Prices are cheap and the food is fresh--and I love the vegan options.  So I'm moving to the UES next week, totally outside of the delivery zone...See ya on the crosstown bus.

You beautiful baby.

How you cater to us vegetarians. I love your snarky employees, your spaceless space, your free chips and salsa and water. Genius.

Also see: vegetarian chili, black bean, rice, and guacamole tacos, nachos and vegetarian quesadillas. You'll never need Chipotle or Qdoba again.

And their salsa is damn good and a little spicy. Just the way papa likes.

This place is love. It's like Chipotle, but with choices. The prices made me cringe a tad ($7.60 for a quesadilla), but when I opened the little styrofoam container, a massive chili quesadilla unfolded before me. And it was quite tasty.

Four stars largely due to the complimentary guacamole, chips, salsa, and pico de gallo.

I remember my first time eating at Burrito Box...it was in the fall when I was walking back from 114th street with a coworker when he suggested we grab a burrito. Coming from California I will admit that I am a mexican food snob, so I was a little hesitant to go at first. However, after a 54 block walk I was ready to get something to eat and so I tried it out. Simply put I discovered that this is THE staple burrito spot in the Columbus Circle/Upper West Side/Hell's Kitchen area.

It gives you a filling meal for a reasonable price. They have very quick service and great burritos - my favorite is the Chicken Ranchero, which has chicken that has been marinated with some of their salsa. They also have some great nachos which are a perfect meal after a night of drinks. They have some of the best homemade salsa that I have found thus far in the city.

If you're in the need for a mexican fix I wholeheartedly recommend Burrito Box.

This place has a giant menu and an unusual one! For some weird reason you can get seitan here! The burritos are HUMUNGOUS and around $8. I wish they were half the size and half the price. It's great because you can get brown rice, a whole wheat tortilla, soy cheese, and tofu sour cream. Nice to have options. Tiny tiny place, though.

Love love love Burrito Box.  The food is really fresh and tasty, the portions are incredibly generous, and I'm always more than satisfied.  Plus, the delivery guys must have wings or something because it's unreal how fast they are.

Anything with the grilled chicken is great, I usually get the soft tacos, but the burrito is good too (and massive).  The chili con carne is really good in both as well.  I've ordered pretty much everything else but those are my two favorite meats.  The chips are nice and thick, and the quesadillas are monstrous.  I also love all their sauces, the regular salsa has nice heat and garlic to it, the pico de gallo is super fresh, and the salsa verde will burn your nose hairs right off.  The guac is a little smoother than I normally like it, but it's so tasty I don't mind devouring a tub of it.

It's not "authentic" Mexican food, but it's fresh and tasty and it makes me happy.

This place is right around the corner from the Hospital and the Doctor offices on 59th street.  Every time I go in for a checkup I always make time to hit the Burrito Box.  This place puts the other fast foodish big box burrito houses to shame (Chipotle!).  The food is fresh, prices are reasonable and the service efficient.

I love the ground beef and chicken burritos here.  They have many other options for the diet conscious such as soy based products, brown rice, etc.  You will not leave hungry.

Everything there is good.  Everything.

Great vegetarian options (beans, spinach, tofu, seitan, portobello), but for the most part I'm in love with the chicken ranchero and the steak.  The nachos will throw a wrench into your digestive system thanks to copious cheese sauce, but they are SO. WORTH. IT.  Just be sure to get the sauce on the side for takeout so the chips don't get soggy.

Hooray for Boylan's and Jarritos selections.

Burrito Box is delicious!  I work in the area and sometimes after a long night, all I want is a burrito or quesadilla before making the trek back to the Q train.  Burrito Box is a lifesaver at these times!

I've always been impressed by their food, but this past week when I went, I got a seitan burrito and omg - it was heaven.  I've got a new favorite and I can't wait for my next burrito.  Sooo good!  A little expensive but that can easily be remedied by splitting with friends.

I only wish there was another location near my house!

GREAT lunch place. I wouldn't call this authentic Mexican, but it's pretty darn tasty -- far better than Chipotle. The burritos here are HUGE (I definitely weighed 2 pounds heavier when I got home). Good balance of all ingredients and they laid each ingredient out so that you can get a taste of each one in one bite -- if you have a big bite. I hate it when you chomp down and all you get is rice or something lame like that. I'm a fan.

Here's the timeline:

2006:  Lunch at Burrito Box at least 3 times a week.  Best lunch in the area for under $10.  Burrito with guac and a coke = $8.50

2007:  Lunch at Burrito Box at least 2 times a week.  Best lunch in the area for under $10.  Burrito with guac and a coke =$9.50

2008:  Lunch at Burrito Box never.  Burrito with guac and a coke = $10.50.

Yes, the economy sucks, the dollar is down, food costs are up.  I'm still not going to pay that much for a burrito for lunch.  Sorry!  We had a good thing going there for a while!

¡Chale!  How can a tiny shack like this kick my ass and the asses of my distant relatives so hard?  Simple.  Outstanding food prepared quickly for practically nothing.  There's no mystery as to why this place is overflowing with rude and obnoxious people, pushing and shoving their way to order like herring in heat.

For around $8 you can get yourself a fat-ass burrito which can be customized to your dietary specs.  My absolute favorite is the black bean w/ pico de gallo, lettuce, cheese and sour cream.  Not as cool as I am?  No problem.  They provide decent substitutions for everything on their menu.  In addition, you can jack up the stuff you love by ordering extra shots for under a buck!

The location is tiny.  I really don't recommend dining in unless there's an opportunity to do so and you really have no other choice.  Personally, I need be alone with my Burrito Box care package.  It's a tender moment that I'm not ready to share with the general public just yet.  Plus there's no delivery charge and these guys are blazing fast.  My food arrives before I even finish conjuring the thought of ordering.

After an evening of quizzing concierges on a Midtown patio, and skipping lunch to pick up the keys to my new apartment, I was, shall we say, a wee bit FAMISHED. . .

I looked up and saw Burrito Box, recognizing it from one of my earlier searches of food in the area of my temporary residence. There's nothing I like more than a burrito and a beer at the end of a long day. Don't know if Burrito Box has beer. But no matter, I knew I had some in the fridge.

When my burrito came out I was confused by its dimensions; an SF-style torpedo this was not. Actually, it was quite squat in stature, like a Campbell's Chunky Soup can, only fatter. I nibbled on the chips on the walk back. Inside, I attacked the burrito and was mostly happy with it.

It'd never live up to even a mediocre Mission burrito, but I suspect for New York, Burrito Box's offerings a pretty dang good.

Its the burrito box, and they come in foil in a little tray, and the restaurant is a little bit bigger than a refrigerator box. I saw a couple guys stuffing face around lunchtime during a jog, which prompted me to stop by to grab a grilled chicken burrito for dinner. Shoulda checked yelp to see that they deliver, because i stood there for a while waiting for my food with what must have been half of the 2 Train. Not bad with the pricing though, and it was a pretty good burritto. I'd stop through again.

Heft and heartiness prevail at Burrito Box. Each burrito weighs in at about 130% of its counterpart at, say, Chipotle.  Think the size of a pork-loin roast.** Ingredients taste fresh and frill-less -- what you request is what you get -- so gluttony can actually feel wholesome here.

That said, flavor may leave something to be desired.  Even as the walls of your stomach are stretching to accommodate, your palate continues to pine after that ineluctably juicy, salty tang so essential to the Truly Satisfying Burrito.  In short: I'm a supporter but not an addict.

(**The analogy is sadly ironic, alas, as there is no pork-centric burrito to be found on the regular menu!)

Do not be fooled by the modest exterior and small operation size, Burrito Box is not your run of the mill burrito joint.  It is one of our favorite lunch places to order from at the office, very quick, affordable and downright delicious.  I love that they have equally appetizing vegetarian options as the non-veg options.  The grilled tofu burrito is scrumptious and bonus points for offering whole wheat tortillas!  Other favorites of my co-workers are the bbq chicken quesadilla, taco salads and grilled steak burritos.  It's a tiny place, so it's not idea to try to eat here unless you are flyin solo or with one partner in crime... delivery and take out is the way to go.

They also offer complimentary chips and salsa with your order and as a snacky if you are there and waiting!!  They give delicious green hot sauce and the cholula with your orders... you can't ask for more!

Super yummy steak tacos! Not a lot of affordable and good restaurant choices this far West, so keep it in mind if you'll be in the area. The seating is minimal, but the food is worth it, so I recommend grabbing a bite and taking it over to Columbus Circle. The fountain makes a great lunch spot.

We've gotten to this weird, and I'd say terrible, time in NYC where we have to compare all burritos to those from Chipotle. That is fucked up. Chipotle's burritos are not bad, but they're not particularly delicious either. If that is the standard by which all burritos are measured, and people overwhelmingly begin to believe that Chipotle is the best, then any other burrito available may have to become bland to meet that measure, or just be knocked out of the market. That is a shame.

Hopefully people will continue to recognize that places like Burrito Box offer a better, tastier burrito that even costs a little less than those other ones. And offering free chips and good salsa like Burrito Box does is what a good burrito place is supposed to do, and I appreciate it.

This is a hungry man's burrito. I ordered the BBQ Chicken Burrito ($7.85, tax already included on the menu price). It took about 2-3 minutes and my burrito was ready. A small white paper bag of tortilla chips were thrown in as well as two containers of salsa. There is a basket of free tortilla chips, which I threw in a few more tong-ful's worth and an extra container of salsa. There were two smaller containers next to the basket of tortilla chips: one was a red and the other was a green sauce, which I'm guessing is some version of a hot sauce.

I took my burrito out, wrapped in aluminum foil and thrown on one of those paper cardboard french fry trays. The burrito was humongous, slightly larger than a Chipotle burrito. The burrito was rolled up in a 12' Flour Tortilla Stuffed with Rice, Black Beans, Pico de Gallo, Lettuce, Chese, Sour Cream and my choice of meat, a hefty portion of BBQ chicken. Mmmm, this burrito was amazing!! All ingredients were perfectly proportioned and complemented each other so well. Delicious!! I would give my left nut to eat another one, just not right now as my stomach is overly stuffed. This burrito is no joke. The tortilla chips were slightly stale, but that red salsa with cilantro was yuuummmyy. I wound up throwing some on my burrito for good measure.

All I can say is that I'm going to have to come back here and try their other burritos. Enough of the monopolizing Chipotle chain, this is the real deal. And if you haven't been here, now's a good time to go. Not a burrito fan? They also have wraps, tacos and quesadillas. Though everything is slightly expensive, let's not forget the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa, which makes up for the slightly higher prices. If it weren't for the slightly stale chips and slightly high prices, I'd give Burrito Box 5 stars.

Some other tidbits: There is a Daily Specials menu on the right wall, just left of the soft drink refrigerator. I didn't notice it until after I made my order, but they had some yummy looking things on there too (olemole, pulled pork, etc.).

Great food, great price.  This is certainly the place to come for an authentic and tasty burrito.  We left happy and full.  I had the chicken burrito- delish.
Matt had the steak wrap (they are served cold).  They also provide chips/salsa for "free" so that is also a nice touch.

My burrito was satisfying and I did not leave hungry= ie it was rather large!
Must try if you are looking for cheap, delicious, and fast food on the UWS.

I would have given this place two stars but for one awesome thing. I ordered my burrito, received it, and....what's this...free chips and salsa?!  *gasp*

i am from california, which is land of many things, one of which is plenty of tortilla chips. I figured this out when i moved to New York (and into a tortilla chip shortage of which i was not aware. Upon receiving my first NYC tasty bundly of  joy, i sort of stared at the cashier, waiting for my chips....

My chips never came that day, i learned my lesson. And, in order to avoid more awkwardness in my life, kept my yearning for tortilla chips to myself.

Burrito Box's burrito was good; not great, but a descent burrito. They use black beans, which was nice and the chicken in my burrito tasted very fresh. My chips however, were glorious.

Place is great for New York Mexican food - I'm giving it 5 stars b/c of the healthy options it provides (brown wrap, brown rice, low fat, etc.) and the a la carte ordering, makes it possible for health nuts to get their burrito fix without blowing the calorie bank.

Haven't actually been to the restaurant itself, always order in :)

My craving was for tasty Tex-Mex with no gimmicks and Burrito Box delivered.

I found Burrito Box using my Menu Pages method of finding a restaurant. I can't crown it the best after one visit but I'm looking forward to eating here again.

For my Menu Pages method head to http://NYCFoodGuy.com for my full
review on Burrito Box.

I ordered a chicken and steak quesadilla. Both were delicious but the steak was tastier because:

- The steak was hot, not too fatty, and like the chicken, tasted flame-grilled

The Grilled Chicken Tacos ($5.95 for an order of 2) arrived hot and tightly wrapped in aluminum foil. When unraveled, they looked like tiny little bricks of tasty goodness.

Filled with shredded Romaine, chopped tomato, and hot pieces of flame-grilled chicken, these tacos, when smeared with sour cream, salsa, guacamole, and dipped in some of my personal favorite, El Yucateco Habanero hot sauce, were just what the doctor ordered.

Why the Tacos were delicious:

- They were hot and tasted fresh

- The grilled chicken wasn't sinewy or fatty and tasted like it had been flame-grilled

- Despite their small size, they packed a punch that didn't leave you overly full

Burrito Box didn't skimp on the sauces either. Included with my bag of what tasted like freshly fried tortilla chips, was a plastic dish of house made salsa ($2.65 for the chips & salsa).

The salsa was chunky and fresh with pieces of roughly chopped onion and cilantro swimming throughout. Unfortunately, the salsa was a little strong on the garlic, but not offensively so. Overall, it was tasty enough to merit another try.

Guacamole is solid but they only sent over two little thimbles.  If you're big on guac, make sure you ask for extra. For a side order you can choose from three sizes: Small ($0.95), Medium ($1.75), and Large ($2.95).

I had a steak and chicken burrito within the next week and both were pretty damn tasty as well but there was too much sour cream inside. If you don't love sour cream, definitely ask for it on the side.

Interesting Discovery:

After seeking out Burrito Box's website, I discovered there's a sister restaurant right next door called Lunch Box. Offering a generic menu of sandwiches, soups, salads, espresso, cappuccino, and juices, NYC Food Guy will make sure to check it out and report back.

---------

In the end, Burrito Box delivered big-time. This may have been my best Menu Pages discovery yet. I plan on ordering from the Box again and I hope they continue to impress because if so I'm ready to anoint them the best Mexican Delivery in Midtown. Keep your eyes peeled for an update.
