3 reviews for Burger's Lake
A shady swimming hole with diving board, swing ropes.
Cozy, old school.
Down side - this isn't wet n wild - old facilities, white trash crowd.
I took my daughter here this summer, twice (2009). We wanted to experiance a swimming hole similar to one we hit last year in Austin. The old school type, natural, spring feed, "all american" if you will....
Anyway we heard about this place from my parents who went there as kids. Checked it out online and thought WTH... Last year (2008) the crypto (spelling) virus started here, and every public swimming hole including Burger Lake was closed for most of the season because of it. As a result they are very aware of cleanliness in and around the water. There are signs everywhere warning you about it. Parents dont be stupid. Take precautions so that kind on BS doesn't happen again! If you have diaper age kids put them in swimmer diapers, otherwise just be smart. Use the toilet not the pool. Wash you hands. Again be smart.... (On to a better subject)...
This place is fantastic visually. Its exactly what I wanted my daughter to experience from that prospective. Huge shade trees, great grass, cool little beaches, very clean bathrooms, and again the TREES!!! AMAZING! So old, and a great throw back to the "old school" days. They do NOT allow alcohol or pets, and that makes it all american. Its all about families and kids. You feel like you are in an old movie when you are here (except for the ANNOYING PA system and the lazy lifeguards)
Here is the bad part..... the lifeguards are VERY immature and allowed to play on all the diving boards while "working". Several of them sit near or in the changing rooms up on the hill and scream at everyone in the "lake" via the loud speakers(PA). That is annoying as hell! They need to just walk up to the people not following the rules and tell them face to face, not be jackassing around on the boards all day and yelling on the PA. The one guard with long black hair is so in love with the sound of his own voice everyone in my party got sick of him and his "daddy speaches" so we packed up and left!!
I will say, although I liked this place and went twice I'll never go again. It makes no since to me to pay $12 per head to get yelled at all day long (on a PA) because other people are stupid and don't watch their kids while swimming in dark water.
If you are in the Fort Worth area on a hot day and want to blow some money on a water park, I suggest NRH20. Find a friend that lives in NRH and get in for the same price as this place. They dont have a PA, the have a sound system that plays music only. They are a new park (relative to BL) with tons of activities and most importantly the Lifeguards are doing their job.
If you are going to burgers lake bring ear plugs, and/or a source for music. Its worth checking out, but know what to expect.
*******UPDATE********
I am changing the rating to 3 stars temporally because of a message I received here on yelp. The message is below. If what it says is true I'll be pushing the review higher to at least 4 stars. If not then it will not change. I assume this message came from someone in management at Burgers lake. I will not know if it is ture until I get another oppertunity to visit, and I'm not sure if that will happen. Here is the message...
"Jim,
We take all comments to heart good and bad i agreed with you so I have since made it a better place by A. turning the level down on the PA as well wrote a new procedure for the use of the PA. B. Had employee meeting on the issue of attitude as well playing on the boards on there breaks. These are good lifeguards BL is so much different than any other water park as I would hope people leave with a positive experience. Thank You
Curtis"
An awesome place to swim on a hot day, you can't drink or bring dogs, but its an understandably in place set rules due to the water condition.
We bought a picnic, and floated around for a few hours. They do accept credit cards and some food is available but the picnic areas are wonderful.

History
Established in 1900
Burgers Lake started out in 1929 as a place for people to cool off in spring water. Mr. Burger and his wife developed it into a great place to come and relax. In 1964 D.L. Black bought it and did extensive work to the park and over the years has became a Fort Worth tradition and today is operated as only a handful of family owned parks. Burgers Lake has alot of history and is truly a feast for the eyes we urge you to check it out for yourselves
