I went here on the eve of Santa Con and let me say the staff did a great job handling the crowd. The burgers here are perfect. I loved my cheeseburger and HOT french fries. They also have a good beer selection. The Speakeasy IPA was really good.
Expect to pay around $15 for a big burger and beer. -

Had the Kobe steak sandwich. They need to talk to the person who sells them their Kobe beef. Not sure it is as they say.
Only saying that I'd think Kobe would be somewhat tender, right? Not so.
A tough piece of meat to get through. Even for a regular steak sandwich.

Living in the East Bay, there is one that is close to my home, walk by it just about every day, and I've been meaning to go check it out, but haven't yet.
Alas, I was in the North Beach area and craving garlic fries. Where to go? Burgermeister my husband said. Gotta love garlic, so figured why not? We were early to our next destination that was on the way and decided to pop in for some garlic fries and beer.
We were a bit disappointed because the service was a bit slow, the place only had two people inside, and although the server was nice, she didn't really smile. FYI, smiling gives you bonus yelp stars in my book.
No biggie, we were stoked about garlic fries. However, when they arrived, they looked tasty, covered in massive amounts of garlic chunks. Fabulous. Sadly, we had higher hopes for taste. They were doused in oil, were overly crunchy, and seemed like they were in the frier way too long. Insert: sad face. We ate them, but decided we may not order those again since they were way too oily. I am still down to try their burgers out sometime, they sound good.
Although this time wasn't worth a 5 stars, I will be back again to try other things on the menu sometime.Comment from Isaac M. of Burgermeister 12/19/2011

--Intro / Service
Coming in with a very empty stomach, and letting them know about it, Burgermeister was very considerate to dish out my burger FAST, and not just fast, but CUSTOM, the way I asked them with whole wheat bun and avocado inside. It's nice the way they bring it to your table.
--Food
Their curly fries are amazing, and come in generous servings. The burgers are JUICY, and big. The meat is organic, a boon for health-oriented or puritan-oriented individuals, and lastly, Burgermeister is generous in amounts of lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions, pickles, mushrooms and anything you want to add. The hunger. Was. Conquered. With flying colors. (cheering crowd)
Plus they're open late!
Love it.Listed in: Good restaurants open till…

I was in Chinatown and I needed something else to eat. I had been wanting to try Burgermeister. So, I decided to walk up Columbus.
The place was relatively empty. The person at the counter was very friendly. I placed my order.
The ambiance is pretty simple. But it is clean and well organized.
Soon after I sat down, my shake came out. This was a straw shake. But, if you prefer, it was thick enough to use a spoon. They serve it in a tall ice cream glass and give you the tin with the extra. I always love that. It was a pretty good shake.

In short order, my burger came out. I ordered the Western Burger (onion rings, cheddar, bacon, bbq sauce). Since this was my second dinner, I selected the 1/3 lber. There is also 1/2 lber. The burger came with fries.
This was a good burger. It was cooked to a perfect medium. it was messy. Overall, I liked it, However, the bun was a little soggy on the bottom. Some of the onions slipped out of the breading. But those are minor complaints.
http://tinyurl.com/8xp...
Either the fries were overcooked or the oil needed to be changed. They were just ok.
I liked Burgermeister and would not hesitate to go back. While not the best hamburger I've ever eaten, it was definitely a lot better than many. It's not cheap. The 1/3 lb Western with fries was just a tad over $10. Once I had added the shake and a tip, it was a $20 burger meal. But I think it was worth it.Listed in: Mark's Burger List

This is one of the best veggie burgers in town, and my hubby agrees on the non-vegetarian burgers as well. We've been to this place twice now, and we will definitely be back.
The veggie patty was delicious, and unlike any other I've had. It was not a Boca or Gardenburger. I think they are original. They have carrots and peas in them, I think. Add cheese and a little barbecue sauce and you are in heaven.
Last time, the hubby ordered his with grilled onions, avocado, and bacon, and said it was amazing.
We've tried the regular fries, garlic fries, and onion rings. All three were really good, so it just depends on your mood.
We've been missing Prince's Diner, one of our old hangouts in Houston with great oldies, shakes, and burgers, and this place is definitely helping to fill the gap.
The staff is friendly. I've only been there in the evenings, but although the place isn't very big, we have gotten a seat both times. I also like that they do recycling and compost with the trash there. That's cool.
The Verdict: There's so many other things I want to try there, like the Portabella burger and the fish sandwich, but we'll see! One of my faves, though, for sure! -

EARLIER I wrote a review regarding a very frustrating situation with the management regarding a quality issue.
Amir, one of the owners, said he would get back to me and he gave me his email address. I sent several emails to the address and never got a reply. So, I got frustrated and vented at yelp.
Last Thursday, Amir, called me with abject apologies for not getting back to me. He had to contact his cell provider in order to get my phone number. When he called me, I WAS SHOCKED! When he apologized, I
was I was impressed that he worked so hard to contact me.
I think it is totally appropriate for me to remove my rant. IT WAS MY FAULT THAT THE eMAILS NEVER ARRIVED, I failed to put "SF" after
Burgermeister~ http://BurgerMeisterSF... is correct.
I apologize to Amir regarding the post and hope you understand.
Amir knows his business and what he has to do to keep High Standards. -

This place tries to be too much without accomplishing much of anything. Prices are as high as any sit-down diner or burger place, but there aren't wait staff. You order at a register and then seat yourself with the ambiguity of whether to tip overhanging.
On a Sunday I visited, there was one person working the register and serving so it felt a bit frantic.
The burgers themselves taste good though they don't have anything special. The beef is all from Nieman Ranch so it is at least fresh and hormone/anti-biotic free. I'd take In-N-Out any day over this place.Comment from Isaac M. of Burgermeister 8/29/2011

This place is awesome. Best burger I've had (so far) in San Francisco.
My go-to is the Teriyaki Burger with added Pepperjack cheese. It comes with Pineapple plus all the usual burger fixins. Good fries and good ceasar side salads also. The beef quality is *excellent*.
They serve beer (great while you wait) and have a small-ish seating area if you want to eat there. One con is that is does take awhile for them to make. Just call ahead if you're getting it to-go!
Pro Tip: Go for the half pounder. Thank me later. -

Pretty damn good burgers. I created my own burger and I was pretty pleased with how it came out. The curly fries could've been a little softer, but overall, everything was well done. These are some expensive burgers, but I guess you could say it's worth the money you pay for. I might go back, but I could go without it and choose In-n-Out or McDonald's.
If you want a big fancy burger, definitely go here for that.Comment from Isaac M. of Burgermeister 8/29/2011

As a vegetarian, the best part about my experience was the shake. Mitchell's ice cream and Ghiradelli syrup? In a giant cold glass? Um, yes, please.
Better vegetarian burgers at Mo's Grill on Grant and Green-- although they might be so tasty because the mushrooms and onions are grilled on the same flat as meat patties, haha.
3 stars, personally, for my food. 5 for the eco-responsible concept and I'd probably mark 5 if I ate meat. I remember Niman Ranch being super tasty. -

Came here last night so this review has be an off night for them because it was not a memorable meal. First off, I think the people at the counter were not used to such a busy crowd that they could not keep up with bussing tables, taking orders and taking out the garbage. However, the two girls at the counter somehow found time to still chat between themselves even though people were waiting. Ordered the quarter pound with avocado/cheese burger and sweet potatoe fries. It really was not the standard burger that you would normally expect from them. Again maybe because it was fleetweek, maybe they were short staffed. I will give them another try, but very disappointed.

Summary: One star for wet sponge buns, 2 stars for taste - just below mediocre. Overall, 1.5 stars. Round up to 2 stars.
My terriyaki burger was like a dripping wet sponge as you bit into it. The bottom bun was soaked with their sauce before my third bite and inedible by halfway. Yuck. In contrast our California burger meat was dry. Some basics: burger meat is supposed to be moist, the bun dry. Eight bucks for a wet sponge which I threw half away is not a good deal. -

First, let me say that Burgermeister is one of my favorite spots in the city for burgers or sammiches. But this is the first time i have been to this location. One of my favorite meals ever is their Buffalo chicken sandwich and fries / onion rings. HOLY FUCKING MOSES.
Anyways, I was at this location in North Beach for the first time. I don't know if the chef was new, or just didn't give a fuck because it was New Years. Or shit in North Beach is just different. But jesus. Talk about brand consistency, this meal was NOTHING like what they usually serve.
The chicken sandwich tasted like they just reheated a Burger King chicken sandwich and then dabbed a teeny bit of buffalo sauce on top. And the fries were a soggy disgusting mess, not the normal beer battered heaven that I am used to.
I have no idea what the deal was. If you want good food, please visit Burgermeister. You won't be disappointed. Just don't go to this one until they get their shit together.
P.S. I find it quite hilarious that they have a gigantic poster above the register that proudly proclaims "VOTED BEST BURGER SEVERAL YEARS RUNNING" yet doesn't specify which years. 1995-1999? When!? -
Review from Jana S.
Cool; hit up my first Burgermeister after a few NB spots rejected us for not planning on ordering full dinner... our 4th try was a charm.
stopped off for snackage last night before the HILARIOUS Maz Jobrani, bringing his clean, "iranian-american" jabs and all.... at the Cobbs
3 of us:
one order of chili fries
one of natural cut fries
one strawberry shake
awesome. done oh so right. crisp, light.. the chili had plenty of beans and beef, diced red onions, shredded cheese... their version is the kind I prefer, low on the salt (add your own, buddy, and don't give the rest of us HTN), and thicker like a ragout so as not to be runny and sog up all the fries.
My friend hated them; more for me! If we had known Cobbs serves full-on dinners and snacks, perhaps we would have tried them on for size. -

Only a few blocks from where I work. I wanted to try something new so I used Yelp.
Got the original burger, cooked medium. It came out pretty juicy and tasted great. Comes with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and onions. I placed everything on except for the onions. Raw onions = too strong. Fries were average, nothing special.
All in all if you want a heartier burger, this is the place to go (for now until I find a better walkable burger joint) -

A good selection of burgers and side dishes.
Except of the chili I can recommend everything so far. The Jalapenos should be more spicy, but it's very nice to have them for free.
I had better burgers, but it's definitely above standard. -

Burger King, Jack In The Box, McDonalds, what do they all share in common? Burgers that feel as if they were thawed in a microwave, cooked in an oven and decorated to look as delicious as they appear in commercials. Cheap food, cheaply made burgers, makes sense.
Shift to Burgermeister now; if you want a legit, freshly made, from "real" cows, burger, this is the spot. For a little privet tag, you get a burger that truly defines an "American grilled burger".
Underrated and not as well know as other burger joints, Burgermeister excels in delivering it's delicious staple: The Cheeseburger. You have the option of a quarter pounder, half pound, even two patties of your choice.
The menu has other intriguing selections as well. Not feeling a large burger? Try some sliders. Chicken tenders are also delicious here as well as the option if ordering other types of sandwiches. They make some pretty dope curly fries as well and goes real well with a half pound burger. Not a big fan of cow-meat in general? For those more healthy minded and chicken lovers, try the chicken caesar salad.the chicken is freshly made, adding a delicious twist to the caesar salad. They let you choose from large and small depending on your appetite.
Overall These burgers and entrees will leave you fat and engorged: they are worth the trip.
On average, your bill should surpass around $10-15 (per person) slightly expensive for a burger and a side, but if your really in search of a true burger joint, it'll be worth every cent. You wouldn't want to throw your food away even if your full because it's just that good. It has a nice eating area with a TV that usually features sports. In addition, they serve beer incase your meeting up Some friends to hangout and drink over a game on TV.
Made the trip today to Burgermeister, 1/2 pound burger with curly fries hit the spot. There's no denying it: this is one of the best burger spots in town. -

I had their namesake special, the "burgermeister" with a 1/4lb beef patty (I like mine well done) with no cheese, has avocado, oodles of caramelized onions, and mushroom (probably baby-bella) with the pickles, lettuce, onion, and tomato on the side.
One has a choice of salad, coleslaw, or french-fries (sorry, freedom fries *flashes Asian V sign*) from which I chose the fries; the fries are the standard frozen fries and doesn't hold a candle to the fresh straight-from-the-tater fries at In-n-out.
The patty was delicious but, personally, the burger was too big and messy for me. I like to stay focussed on the taste of the burger without having to worry on the logistics of how to get all the major and bit players together on their journey from plate to mouth.
At $15.00 including a soda, it was too expensive for me. I will take the In-n-out $5.00 meal instead with the fresh hand-rolled salad and even fresher fries.
Tip: cut the burger in half to better manage it and avoid all those onions, mushrooms, and avocado jumping ship along the way up to your masticators. -

Blech. Absolutely the worst turkey burger ever. Maybe they treat their beef patties better, but the turkey patty tasted like burnt salt - so incredibly salty that there was no other discernible flavor except for the burnt flavor of grill charring.
I've had their Meister Salad with grilled chicken twice, and it's the same thing: the chicken is very salty and burnt-tasting.
They also routinely forget to give me something I ask for when I order by phone to pick up.
All in all, pretty cruddy! There's *got* to be a better burger in North Beach. -

HOLY-BLOW-MY-SOCKS-OFF-AND-SLAP-ME-IN-THE-FACE-GOO D! And that was just my initial thought after taking my first bite!
We stumbled in here on a whim. We were looking for a more North Beach, authentic style restaurant, but we were over searching and too hungry, so we settled. My boyfriend ordered the Meister burger and I went with the Western burger, and on the side, a ghirardelli chocolate shake to share. My only disgruntle is that my burger could have used a side of BBQ sauce to get the extra-dippin' on, but I was too hungry and scarfed it down before the waitress could ask if we needed anything else. The burgers are delicious, moist and the fixins, fresh. The fries were crisp and potatoey. And the milkshake, ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh the milkshake. How my heart yearns for another taste. This was BY FAR the most DELICIOUS, AMAZING, DELECTABLE, MOUTH WATERINGLY good milk shake I've EVER EVER EVER had INNNNNNNNNN MY LIFE. Words do not do this milk shake justice. It was made with real ice cream and perfectly thick and malty. I mean, it WAS made with ghirardelli chocolate which explains everything. You MUST try.
Waitress was very helpful and nice. The beer was FREEZING. Never had beer this cold in my life. Bomb.
Basically this place is f*cking awesome, if you couldn't tell. Go, now. -

This is hard to do.
I really love their burgers. No no no no, I mean, I REALLY love their burgers. Any burger joint that asks you how you want your meat cooked is A-OK in my book. So why the 3 star review? Actually, I want to give them a 2.5 star review, because every time I go there one of the cashiers gives me the stink-eye.
It is so annoying.
Not only do her eyes fear me, but the general lack of genuine care for your customers is very off-putting. I get it, you work for a food chain in San Francisco and you probably don't receive the best pay. So why would you have to be polite, smiling, attentive, nice and just showing that you have some care for the people that provide you work?
Oh that's right, because that's your job.
Good burgers, terrible service. Step it up 'meister. -

If you are comparing this to a whopper from burger king or an In and Out burger then you are in the wrong playing field. This is a real hamburger. This is comparable to a Barney's burger or a high end restaurant burger. It is that good.
All of the condiments are very fresh and the beef is very good. I believe the ratio is 90/10, in terms of the fat ratio. I think it might be a little slimmer than that.
The fries are good and the onion rings looked great as well. It's great to have a place like this in my hood. If you want a cheaper burger.......sam's is good on Broadway or for a little bit more you can go to Mo's on grant ave. But, if you want a great burger........burgermeister is it. You get what you pay for here. -

I'm housesitting for my German friend again. I don't mind. I brought along my Space Trak DVDs, a lot of cola, and cigars. I found myself on the back porch taking in the colors that make me happy. Orange, green, blue, red, etc. The backyard resolution was optimal and it would do nicely on a 1024 x 768 desktop (Windows 2000 or XP preferable). Then, it was into the home to begin the Space Trak marathon and Internet interaction.
Zzzing! Vrrrawwn! In the office, I surfed the Net for trivia and chatted with space cadets as space fantasy bounced off the walls in the nearby tv room. The whole house was filled with cigar smoke except for the path between the office and the tv room, allowing me to zip and zoom, exciting all my senses!
I'm hungry now, I thought. I remembered the Burgermeister I saw driving here... out on the main road. Not to risk losing my parking spot, I decided to walk. I walked laughing to myself and shaking my head at what StarWookie73 said about Princesss in the chatroom only moments before... he made the chatroom an exciting place to be! And now I'm walking to Burgermeister! Suddenly, a euphoric feeling passed through my body and made me feel young again. I found an abandoned jump rope on the ground and began skipping to the beat of rope hitting the sidewalk. A lady walking up the hill stared at me curiously; I leaped at her and gave her a big smooch! I've never felt so much love in my soul before today!
Finally, I reached Burgermeister. I treated myself to two burgers (a mushroom-n-onion and a double bleu cheese) with large garlic fries... A reward for walking, I thought. I washed it down with a few cold Stella's and watched a sun wave goodbye with fiery red reflecting off of tall windows. Delicious. Well-prepared, well seasoned, and as savory as they come. The heart attack came about suddenly. I was happy about that. I smiled and thought about the last meal that I had. I tell you, those are some hamburgers worth dying for.Listed in: 2005...

Sometimes after a long marathon of Guitar Hero, you work up a big appetite. What sates those kinds of rock cravings? That's right, a big juicy hamburger.
Rocking out also tires you out, and you don't want to go far for your big burger. You're in luck if you live a few blocks away from Burgermeister.
So Burgermeister is a mini chain in the city. Normally that doesn't bode well if you're looking for tasty eats. I'm pleased to report that at least this location employs some wizards who rock the grill like Joe Satriani on Flying on a Blue Dream. Tasty.
I've been here a number of times and if you order your burger medium, that's EXACTLY what you'll get. Good work, fellas. I was starting to think I couldn't actually get my burger to order any more. -

i took my staff here after a long day at the North Beach Festival. I had heard this was THE place for burgers. When we got there I was shocked it was pretty empty. I let my staff order what ever they wanted, which means I had to get cash from their ATM since it was cash only. weird.
The service was a bit slow considering no one was there. The food looked great and I was glad I upgraded to the curly fries. I never thought I would say this but they put WAY to much bleu cheese on my veggie burger. I had to take some off and throw it away, which is like a crime if you ask me.
I am not sure I would say this is the BEST burger I have ever had, I think Jessie K.'s outdoor burgers are still up there....ya know, the ones she puts full pats of butter in the center before cooking......um yeah.Listed in: Self Control is so last…

Yesterday afternoon I was on a plane flying home from a whirlwind weekend in Cabo and starving. Flipping through the US Air in flight magazine I saw a mention of Burgermeister and immediately knew what was for dinner. My burger was pretty damn good-cooked a perfect medium rare although the meat could have used a bit more seasoning.
Fries were hot and crispy, as they should be!

Go here during the week, not during the weekend unless you're really craving a burger like we were. There are so many good deals here during the week.
Anyways, we got a hotdog, fries and drink as well as a 1/4 burger, curly fries and drink. The burger was great with this spicy steak sauce. Ranch also made the curly fries awesome. The hotdog was good but nothing special. They served it in a sandwich roll and not the usual hotdog bun. All good, just different. I actually liked their regular fries compared to their curly fries.
Anyways, worth a shot! Get a burger, but I'd say go during the week, not the weekend. -

My favorite has to be their blue cheese burger and a thick chocolate shake.

Their garlic fries are pretty tasty too as is their BLT.

Recently, I had lunch here with a handsome man. He was starving after soccer practice at the nearby field and had a hunger that could be satiated by one thing only: Grade A American meat. And I felt better feeding him grass-fed, organic Niman Ranch beef than slaughter-house cows on steroids.
I should explain that my dining companion was my 8-year-old nephew. He absolutely rocks. And he thinks Aunt Nancy is pretty cool too for taking him here. We kept the milkshake we shared a secret from his mom. Except the milk mustache gave it away. -

Matt had a urgent craving for a burger and landed here for a solo dinner. Matt was going to take it home to eat his dinner, but since the unexpected rain just arrived, the restaurant was somewhat deserted, so Matt decided to eat his meal @ the dining area inside the restaurant.
Matt ordered the basic Cheeseburger meal. The $8.25 Niman Ranch burger had cheddar cheese and the basic condiments including fries. Matt's requested not to put salt on the fries and the workers cooperated well. The burger was very greasy, but very tasty. Matt used the veggie condiments to absorb the burger's grease. Matt also had a needed cup of $2.00 pink lemonade, which is free-refill. Matt also ordered a side of pineapple ($1.35) to absorb the grease from the burger in his system
Matt might think about coming back for their burger again, eventhough it was very good, but greasy. Matt will come back for their Milkshakes, which used Mitchell's Ice Cream; at least according to what they listed on the menu. You'll never know.Listed in: Hamburger Hill

Dropped in here for a quick bite before the comedy show at Cobbs.
I was hesitant at first because there was a line practically out the door. Wow, this place is popular. Such a wide array of choices on the menu. Create your own burger to chicken sandwiches and hot dogs. Their drink selection is superb also.
I went with the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with Season Curly Fries. Probably the best I've had, ever. The chicken was super moist and tender. Melted cheese and the sauce, omg the sauce. Fiery and smokey just the way I like it. The fries were great but the sandwich out shined.
This burger joint is a winner. From the tastry grub to the music and the bright decor. Oh yeah, we dined next to six of SFPD's finest, which was pretty cool. This place brings in all kinds of peeps.
It's the perfect spot for a good burger, beer and fun atmosphere. -

The menu has changed since my previous visit and diners have more options to customize their burgers and side selections now. Of course, along with the revamped menu comes revamped prices.
I decided against being creative and ordered the MeisterBurger with curly fries from their "Favorites" menu. The restaurant staff at this BurgerMeister location is always nice and friendly. It's probably because this location is often frequented by tourists; however, it could be that they're just nice people.
My big burger platter arrived a short time later. This burger is a heavyweight in terms of what goes in between the two ends of the bun. Besides the half pound Niman Ranch patty, was two slices of the Swiss cheese that I ordered, sauteed mushrooms, grilled red onions, curls of crispy fried bacon and a ripe bright green avocado half. It would have been an awesome photo, but my camera was dead following a night tour of Alcatraz.
The big mouth burger was juicy and grilled to a perfect medium well in terms of color. With all of that on the soft bun I feared the bread would give way but it held its ground. I loved the flavor combination between the beef, the bacon and the avocado. Half way into my burger I was already stuffed, and I hadn't even started to work on the massive portion of the crunchy curly fries on my plate.
I had originally thought $12.75 was a lot to pay, but considering how massive the burger was and how many fries got scooped onto my platter, it's all justifiable. There are free refills on the fountain drinks too. Open from 11 to 11 seven days a week; I'll be back.Listed in: When In Doubt, Order A Burger

I am moving out of my beloved neighborhood in North Beach and had to go by for my last meal at Burger Meister. I used to grab food here and walk up to Washington Park on a sunny day. I will miss this place. It's a little pricey for what you might be used to spending for a burger and fries, but well worth the price. Two people usually will run you about $30.00, but you will most definitely enjoy your meal.
I went to the counter when I was greeted by the cutest young woman about 5 feet 1 who looked like she was 12 years old! Sometimes you go to a place when you love the staff. I love the staff here because they are so laid back, and the food is good as well.
What I ordered:
Teriyaki Burger Medium Well with Pineapple perfectly charbroiled to perfection, Garlic Fries with chunks of real minced garlic and parsley
washed down with a Mug Root Beer
Please remember to tip well people! Henny! You're the best! Absolutely adore you!

Wish the prices were lower or at least the quality of the burger a little better. I understand that the prices include a salad or fries but still... Expensive. (Psst - try ordering off the children's menu. I dare you. I double dare you! If you can get away with it, you'll keep a few more dollars in your pocket.)
Fries were great - hot and crispy - and the strawberry shake was tasty.
