5 reviews for Burger Ranch
the interior is unremarkable, sort of 'early protypical DQ' style... except for the side business of track shoes, and the commissioned paintings of bulls, and the asparagus hall of fame posters.
But, under the hood, this place is a foodies dream: it is perfectly unaware, authentic ranch-to-table, family owned american fast food. Dean Stokes, the owner/operator, raises his own award-winning cattle, and they go straight to your burger. There are also blissfully awesome greasy seasonal local delicacies: french-fried asparagus, pumpkin shakes, etc. And it is all Really Real, not Hipster Manufactured Authentic.... Dean is just a local guy running a solid business, not some dude who read Edible Seattle until he lost his banking job and moved to the idyllic country in search of authenticity.
i love the burger ranch. track shoes and all, it is the wabi sabi of small town burgerdom.
p.s. if i ever hear jane and michael stern talking up the burger ranch on The Splendid Table, i will hang myself.
I lived here for awhile. I ate a few dinners here. Family owned is always a plus. I had corn.. ahh fresh valley corn and lots of burgers.
It has a regular group of followers. It is comfortable and very friendly.
You had me at Dude Burgers.
Actually, I didn't have a burger. Which is sad, because I read in their store that they raise their own cattle, and lend out their bulls to other people. They then take them back after they've served their purpose (bullfights?) and grind them into the burgers along with the cows. I guess the optimum balance is three cows to one bull. Now you know the secret!
So I actually enjoyed a fresh raspberry milkshake, sweet potato fries (yes!), french fried asparagus (yes!!), and onion rings (not that great!!!). I only wish I'd gotten the meal that came with a side of New Balance shoes. I think that's the Dude Burger combo.
I am such the tourist! We traveled all the miles to middle-of-Washington to check out this place called Burger Ranch because you can order a side of New Balance shoes to go with your burger! Yup, definitely took pictures of that. If you ignored the shoes, it's just a typical fast food joint.
They purchased the Blizzard machine from a Dairy Queen that had closed down nearby, so not only can you pick up your burger, shoes, and FRIED things (asparagus and zucchini, to name a few), you can also get a DQ-esque Blizzard! YUM.
Four star rating based on quirkiness and availability of a Blizzard on a dry, hot Central Washington's summer day!
The fried asparagus is a 10. The burgers rock. Anything fried here is good. I love getting super sized with running shoes! The burgers really are very good and I'm not a burger fan......
