This place is great! The atmosphere leaves little to be desired, but the food and ESPECIALLY the customer service has me going back again and again.

The lady that is usually at the front taking orders treats everyone with a sincerity that is absent in most establishments.

After being introduced to this restaurant a few years ago, I have made sure to take everyone in my family and several of my friends here to experience good food and awesome service.

    "Best in the West"...........West Colfax?.......kidding (!)

I'm a fan of Burger Plus West.

Had to try this place out after reading the reviews on Yelp. I do remember this place being a chowda house, back in the day.

I stopped in for lunch on a work day and ordered the Gyro Plate ($7.95); I think I had the lunch special......an extra buck for the drink, so it didn't look like the great deal everyone was talking about EXCEPT, I brought home a paper menu and indeed, prices are very good for other menu items.

As other have mentioned, two people in front of me at the counter, but about a twenty-minute wait for food. I will just call the friendly counter woman, Zsa Zsa, because that what she sounds like: "Vat can I get for you, dahling?" Customer service above and beyond; very welcoming. You can tell she has a tremenous work ethic.

Decor is what others have mentioned; it works for the West Colfax. Clearly, they have a good following with regulars from the old location. I think the door in the rear should be better marked from the parking lot (I walked to the front to get in.)

80% of the menu is dedicated to breakfast, Mexican food, burgers, sandwiches; only about 20% is Greek.

I'm totally going to the bring the family here.

Order their hummus plate and salad! the salad was so fresh and HUGE and the hummus was the best I've ever had!

On busy nights, there can be a little bit of a wait, but it's well worth it.

You ever walk up to the counter to order more, to go, while still stuffed from your meal because you liked it so much?

    I do!

    This place is the bomb!

We went in looking for gyros, so the atmosphere (OPA!) was great. Very Greekish. Gold paint on the decor, faux plaster columns, pictures of Athena statues on the wall.  It might have been a little odd if you were looking for Mexican food (which is on the menu) but for Greek food? perfect! And very clean too!

You order at the counter, though the layout looks more like a order-at-the-table kinda place. The menu is massive (Greek, Mexican, American, etcetera) and VERY reasonably priced.

For $8, I ordered the Gyro plate, which I assumed would be gyro, pita, tzatziki, and some lettuce or something. Yeah. It had all that. It was a giant plate with a large salad full of lettuce, tomato, green pepper, cucumbers, onions, feta, kalamatas and  pepperoncini. A meal by itself. But then there were two, maybe even three pita cut into triangles and about 1/3pound of gyro meat layered over the top. So. Much. Food. Get this! It also came with fries! A lot of them!

My wife ordered the Athenian Cheese Burger. 1/4lbs of beef with 2 slices of gyros and ooey gooey cheese. Under $5!!!!!!!!

And not only was the atmosphere nice and the food cheap, but the people were super nice!

Am I going back? Damn right I am.

The Burgers are hugamongous!  The gyros are great and so is the greek salad.

The kids burger is as big as my kid's head!  WAAAAYYY too big.

    We will be back.

I've been going to BPW for a good 12-13 years, and it has always been sort of close to my heart.  When I was in high school, many years ago, we'd often make the trek to BPW for lunch (it was an interesting mixture of students from Lakewood and Wheat Ridge coming together).  Back then, Mama Greek (a pseudonym believe it or not), not only knew us by name, knew our 'regulars', and very seldomly let us walk out the door without a complimentary ice cream cone.  She continued to remember me and my friends for many years after our once or twice a week BPW visits ceased.  The last few times I went to BPW I was sad to see that Mama Greek was not behind the counter.  Even so, the one thing that always remains constant, regardless of who is behind the counter, is that BPW makes me feel good.

All of that is the good part.  Here's the slightly less good part: my honest review of the food at BPW is that it is, generally, very average.  I am fairly confident in saying that they do not home-make gyros or  tzatziki.  Sadly, it is particularly the Greek food which fails to really shine (to be fair I've never even bothered to try any Mexican dish on their menu, so I can't comment on that).  That being said, they really do make a pretty good, and relatively inexpensive burger.  If I was basing my review strictly on food, I would say that a person would be better off to drive a few blocks down the road to Yianni's. However, as I forementioned, there is something special about BPW that most restaurants simply don't have.  BPW, in a strange way, just feels like home.

I ordered a 1/2 lb cheeseburger, medium.  It was only ok.... it was dry.

I can't figured out how they made it so dry.  I believe its either that 1. they pre-cook them to medium, then finish them (and therefore the reason why my burger was well done) or 2. they use a lean burger meat and cook it too long.  Can't figure out which one, but am thinking its the former.  I know it was charcoal cooked.  I could taste it.  However, you don't get such a dry burger unless you char it to death.  And this wasn't.  It was just well done.

The decor was a combo between a traditional Greek restaurant (gold and red accents, mirrors everywhere, and Greco-Roman columns) and your living room (well, maybe a Florida room for those who know what that is).  Nice customer service.  I just was hoping the food would have been good.

I might try this place again to see if its different than my first experience.

    hmmmm....
maybe they have different cooks?  I mean the ratings are all over the place..... anyone have a theory?

    Confused.

I read the few negative reviews sprinkled here and there for Burger Plus West, and I must say I am confused.

Sure, it may sometimes take a bit longer to get your food here, but that is because BPW cooks your food to order. It's not sitting under heat lamps, like at so many other places. For me, the fries (steak fries) are always piping hot and crispy, though not seasoned. That's good for those of us with higher blood pressure.

The burgers are huge, and made from ground chuck (or so I've been told). So, the burgers are essentially roast beef burgers, and rich with flavor.

The owners are the kindest people I've met in the restaurant business since I came to Denver 29 years ago. They are kind, generous, and treat me like family. Frankly, they treat everybody like guests in their home. Where can you find that these days? Besides, if something is wrong, just tell the owners. They will fix it if they can.

Somebody wrote that the gyros meat tasted "recently frozen." I know the taste of freezer burn, having been in the restaurant business myself. I really have to scratch my head at this one. I know the gyros meat is roasted in the kitchen. To me, it's as good if not better than any other served in Denver. But, taste is subjective, so take what either of us say with a grain of salt. Rather than listen to us, try it for yourself. For a family restaurant (not a gourmet place by any stretch), and for the price, I think you will be more than pleased.

Well, on to my new review. I had another great meal from Burger Plus West. It was a delicious pork sandwich, served with a Greek salad and drink. I got a side of fries to nibble on while driving home. The meal was delicious, put out my hunger fires, and left me happy for the evening.

    What more could I want?

Thanks again, Burger Plus West. It was yet another delicious experience.

I don't know what I can say here that hasn't already been said - my burger was incredibly delicious (I got the Burger Plus special with pastrami), my wife's gyro was as well, and the family that runs it really is just as kind as everyone says. It took us a long time to just decide to try this place, not having heard anything about it before, but we will definitely be returning.

I have been going to Burger Plus for over a decade now and I have dutifully followed 'Burgers' to each of their various locations over the years. I have always loved both the burgers and the gyros are the standard that I hold all gyro sandwiches to. Pretty much every meal is served with their amazingly hot steak fries and the always tasty secret sauce. The owners are some of the nicest people in the world and they always treat me like family and always asking about me and my family (all Burger Plus lovers).

If there is ever that little urge for an amazing burger and the friendliest service you'll ever find, drive to Burgers!  Be sure to try the fried mushrooms and their homemade shakes/malts as they are all to die for. The baklava is also amazing.

I can't say enough about this restaurant. It's awesome. I had the
Mushroom Swiss burger & fries, delicious. Everything fresh, huge steak fries & they have "fry sauce" (haven't seen that in a while). My friend (who is a regular customer) got the Greek Salad...huge portion & looked tasty!  Lady at the counter, simply delightful. Uber friendly & so nice to our 2 four year olds...gave them little cups of ice cream free after they finished their corn dogs. Lots of choices on kids menu too. Overall great place, will be back to try a Gyro & can't wait to take my husband!

I went to this little joint for lunch on a working Friday. Nice little place with a cozy faux-Greek atmosphere, ample parking in the rear, little to no parking out front. I ordered the Athenian burger (cheeseburger with two strips of gyro meat) fries and a fountain drink. The burger was WAY overcooked for my tastes, but I need to be fair and say that I did not specify "medium rare." The fries were tasty steak fries but obviously from a bag of frozen, pre-prepared spuds.

I put some of the house "secret sauce " on my burger to make it a little less dry - it's obviously ketchup, mayo and little else.

I found my experience to be fair-to-middling, if unexciting. If I return I'll make sure to specify that I want my meal cooked a little less well done.

I must say that the lady at the counter (I presume the owner) was charming and gracious. If I return it will be primarily because she is so nice.

What a nice, little gem in the Lakewood area.  I've lived down here for 2 years and now I'm kicking myself in the pants for not visiting this place sooner.

Came here during the Friday lunch rush and it was busy, which I typically consider a good thing.  Orders where filtering out pretty fast, so I wasn't too worried about the wait.  The owner is an extremely nice women who seems to know at least half the customers coming in (another good sign).

Prices are CHEAP!  Sandwiches and burgers under $5, gyros under $6.  And a $1.59 for a side steak fries . . yes, please!  She even gave me the fries for free since it was my first visit here.  That deserves an extra big tip.

Reuben was delicious.  Thick cut pastrami and good kraut.  Can't wait to try the burgers too.

The food is consistently good.  What makes this place special is the lady behind the counter.   We've only been there five or six times but she knows what my wife likes and always seems to give us a free item or two. I never thought about going to this place until I saw the great reviews on Yelp.  The place just wasn't very noticeable or appealing to me from the outside, but good food and extraordinary service have made me a big fan.
We've only tried the greek food so I can't speak to the other fare.

Oh this little gem of a place. You first pull up to the dingy parking lot out back that is shared with a Domino's Pizza place, and you are underwhelmed. But then, you step inside the Greek/Burger joint that amazes you to no end.

I had the gyro combo (gyro with all the fixin's, a heaping pile of fries and a drink) all for less than $6. It's crazy! And I love it. The gyro was p-e-r-f-e-c-t. Tender sliced meat, perfectly seasoned, served with delicious tzatziki sauce. They even have something called "special sauce". I think its a mixture of mayo and ketchup, but you be the judge.

I didn't have the stomach room to try the burger--although lots of people around us order the burger and it looked ginormous.  So I'm sure its great too!  But for me, a gyro is all I need.

Don't let the exterior scare you away--this is place to get your gyro fix!

A standby in Denver dining. We have gone here for over 15yrs. The owners still cook and run it. The food is always fresh and even when busy fast. A great place to go Greek too. I have never been unhappy here, Its cheap, its quick, its good, its clean, its supper friendly, its THE PLACE!!!! a rare find in Denver. They break all the economic rules - you get service, price, and quality. Hum if they can do it, well why aren't more places?
The decor is much like you would find in another country on a budget, get  it cheap and place it around. Its nicely done but nothing to scream about. Its a cheap eats place. So folks that are looking for the perfect Gyro or the ambiance go out and find a higher priced place. This place is for the in and out, no offense you CA folks.

Decent Gyros with generous fries and a medium drink $5.49. Quite a deal. Parking sucks here - 3 spaces in front and about 40 in the rear. Restaurant has rear access. Hidden location next to "Hotel 40" - draw your own connotations about what kind of Hotel that may be.

Very friendly front counter person who sincerely took an interest in the restaurant and the food. Service was slow during lunch rush and some orders were delivered out of order. They probably need a second person helping out on the front counter during busy periods.

Ordered a side of cheesesticks - only came with ranch and were average. Stick to the specials that will fill you up.

Large dining room in front with one TV playing CNN covering Anthony Weiner-gate.

Overall a nice find when I don't want to go to Broomfield.

Well done. I'd be back. Solid 4 star player.

In the neighborhood, I tried Burger Plug on the strength of its Yelp reviews and went for the gyro combo for the same reason. Unfortunately, either things have changed, or some of my fellow Yelpers have pretty low standards when it comes to gyros.

Park in the back, walk in, and the place is an interesting mix of budget restaurant fixtures and grecko-roman decorations. Think of a ketchup dispenser on a greek column.

My gyro combo came with a soft drink, steak fries, and a pita sandwich featuring gyro meat, large tomato chunks, feta, and tzatziki sauce -- none of which were remarkable. The gyro was, to say the least, bland and had the texture of a recently frozen meat product; the fries were certainly frozen before being served; and the tzatziki sauce may as well have come from a jar.

On the other hand, maybe the burgers are better. For some reason they also serve some Mexican food here, so at least there's variety.

Can't say enough good things about this place. Just a great family restaurant run by some of the nicest people you will ever meet!

A little history - Burgers Plus used to be located about 1/2 a mile east of where it is currently located. This was the go to place for the Lakewood High School Crowd when I was a student there (graduated 2001). One day the restaurant closed their doors leaving a generation unsure of where to eat. no more special sauce, amazing burgers, great Gyro's or the best Tzatziki sauce in the world. No more "yes please" from the owner and no more of the familiar faces that made a point of recognizing each and every person that had ever walked in the door. They built  KFC where they used to be located and Burgers Plus was no more.

I was not the only one that was distraught over the loss. All of my friends at one point or another would mention the now legendary and fabled Burgers Plus and how awesome it was. The younger generation was curious but seemed to write our stories off as old fishing stories and such. they did not know the awesomeness and we all thought that they never would.

A year or so later I moved my family a few miles away to Wheat Ridge Colorado. I decided to catch the casino bus that left from a hotel down the road (HoJo on 44th and Ward) and to my surprise there it was! Burgers Plus had moved into this hotel only a few miles north of their original location! I entered the restaurant and there they were, the same familiar owners, Katarina (ex Greek news anchor) and their daughter. They instantly recognized me and were happy that I found them. I thought my life had come full circle. Burgers Plus had not gone completely away, only moved a little further, and the twist of fate that brought me to them could only be chalked up to gods plan. This was awesome.

I told many of the find and they did not believe it. it was just a little too far to venture and check it out. Still many were in awe and made the trip immediately. Others said they were excited but never took the time to make the pilgrimage. I, will admit that while the food was excellent as usual, much of the ambiance was missing from the Colfax eatery that got me through high school. As time passed more and more knew that it existed, it really was back, but few could make the trip as often as before.

Around a year or so later I was driving down Colfax and I saw it. A beautiful Burgers Plus sign in a place I had never seen one before. I forget what I was doing but I do remember that it no longer mattered. I turned around, walked in , and had this feeling that I was home again. Here it is, it is back. In the neighborhood, similar ambiance, and those great smiling faces greeting me.

I enjoyed probably the best Gyro of my life that day. I made some phone calls and everyone was ecstatic. At the time my girlfriend was a staff photojournalist for the local paper and after speaking with her I was able to get them a full page story in the Lakewood Transcript. I came in a few days after the story printed and they were packed!

Needless to say I was very happy to play a part in their return to Lakewood. Burgers Plus truly is a Lakewood gem. the unassuming building gives no clue to the awesomeness that awaits inside. Incredible people, great food, and at least for me, I always see an old friend when I visit.

    Burgers Plus is the best!!!

The lady behind the counter is a ball of energy running back and forth from the register to the window where she gives the orders. Very sweet lady.

The service definitely is slow, but the food is good. The first time I went here for lunch and was expecting to grab a "quick" burger, I waited twenty minutes for my burger and fries. Lesson learned.

The price for a 1/4 lb cheeseburger w/a drink and large amount of steakfries is only $4.99. I took my daughter here today for the first time and she said it was the best burger she's ever had. While I agree they are tasty, I have had a better burger at a small hole in the wall restaurant out in Dillon.

We'll be visiting this place again from time to time.

This place is rad! The lady behind the counter (as everyone else has stated) is so sweet, I ordered a side of green chili to try and my husband just laughed at me because I ordered a falafel and he thought that was terrible combo (I love green chili and they have mexican food here so I just wanted to see if a burrito could ever be ordered from here, nothing worse tha ordering an awesome burrito and having it ruined by bland chili!),  she said she would just give me a little sample since the bowl was $3.50 and if I liked it I could order a whole bowl. When our food was up, there was some chili on the side but right away she took it away and said I needed a bowl because that was just not enough, without even charging me for it, we did, however, make sure to throw a good tip in the jar for all the people that work there that included the price of it.  She was seriously the nicest person I have ever encountered in a restaurant, not because of that but just her demeanor, it was a nice change from what I'm used to when we go out to eat lately. She was so friendly and outgoing, I loved talking with her, she's one of those people that if you're in a bad mood, she would cheer you right up!
The food was great, big portions for a small price, for me it's 2 meals because I had to take half of it home. My husband said the gyros was delicious, my falafel was really good as well. For those 2 combos and a kids meal, we paid $17.00. I'd say thats a smokin deal. I will definitely be going back to this place in the near future, heck, it may even be my new favorite place :) Oh and the green chili was very flavorful, not as spicy as I usually enjoy mine, if my mouth isn't burning I'm sorta bummed out but it was pretty darn good so I will be ordering some mexican food next time for sure.

You can get anything you want from this place.  Steak and Eggs, Burgers, Tacos, Salads and Gyros.  I guess that's why they call it Burgers PLUS.  I have only tried the gyros, but they are delicious!

Its very affordable - $5.50 for a Gyro, fries and a soda.  Portions are large and very filling.  There is plenty of meat, the pita is soft and fresh and the Tzatziki sauce is spot on!

The staff is super friendly!  Ambiance is lacking a bit, so take-out is the way to go.

    Pros:
    1) Good food (Greek food! Woohoo!). Also, happen to like thick-cut style fries, so I was happy about that.
    2) Good value...$5.50 for a gyro, fries and a drink for lunch.
    3) Sweetheart of a lady behind the counter.
    4) The place is very clean and organized for a fast food joint. Although, I may be being a bit generous calling it "fast" food (see Cons).

    Cons:
    1) A tad saltier than I like gyros
    2) Service was slow the day I went, but some of their equipment was apparently down.

    I would recommend the place!

Craving cheeseburgers, new to the area, Yelp recommendations please? While the majority of the Yelp reviews are awesome, the food was not. The "giant" 1/2 # burger was thin, almost burnt, dry and unseasoned. The bun it came on was too big for the patty, as well as dry and slightly stale. (Maybe try toasting it with butter?) The fries were ok, but again everything was dry and unseasoned. My boyfriend ordered a pineapple shake which didn't even taste of pineapple. Perhaps we're spoiled on Jim's Burger Haven? I may come back to try the Greek fare, but really can't say at the moment. I wanted so badly to love this close to home and locally owned and operated business, but no can do. On a plus the people working were generous and friendly.

This was such a memorable experience.  Who the hell would ever think to stop here based on the location and unassuming signage???  Thankfully my friend discovered this place not long ago and dragged me here when I was visiting.  I wanted to go back the next day!!  The chicken gyro I had was so good.  Perfectly seasoned chicken, generous tzatziki sauce and with added feta all wrapped up in a perfectly warm and toasty pita........HEAVEN.

The reason it was so memorable though?  The woman that  owns/runs it is the sweetest, most charming person I have ever run into in the service industry in my entire life.  Spread the word. People could take a lesson from this woman.

Hands down the best place to get a burger in Lakewood!! The family that owns/operates this place is fantastic and genuinely pleasant.
You may wait a little longer than your average fast-food joint, but only because they take pride in making great food! I highly recommend trying out their burgers, gyros, and even the amazing baklava.

    I love this place.

Yup, took my brother here as he said. He's the first reviewer.
Honestly this place is a gem, the service is a bit slow but the wait is worth it. It's basically everything you'd find at a decent diner, but much cheaper.
If you get the specials, like the gyro, or 1/4 burger, which are both delcious you get a drink, and a plentiful ammount of fries for under six bucks. Great deal, I eat here all the time.
The lady who works the front is one of the sweetest people too, great customer service.

Me and my girlfriend have been going here once a week for a couple months and we like most everything about it. The owners are the friendliest people around and one of the main reasons we keep returning. She gets the gyro combo everytime we go, I've tried the gyro, 1/4 lb cheeseburger, mozzarella sticks and the humus and I've got to say all of it is delicious especially the mozzarella sticks. I recommend anyone check this place out if you want a good dining experience. OFWGKTADGAFLSUKWTFWA

My coworker turned me onto this place. Apparently it used to be a staple for good greek food near his high school in Lakewood and then they closed down for sometime. Now they reopened in a little spot next to Dominos on West Colfax.

The gyro is really good, just make sure you ask for the tzatziki sauce with it otherwise it is was to dry. I hear the burgers are really good too but I've been too scared to get it and have it suck and curse myself for not getting the gyro.

I'm grateful I stopped in hungry for a late lunch... As lots before me have said, the counter staff is incredibly sweet and amicable. Fair prices and food is tasty. I loved the tzaziki sauce!

Stopped in this place for lunch. The line was really slow and it took a very long time to get the food. So long, in fact, that the cashier knocked a couple bucks off the check which was nice. The service here is really friendly. As for the food, it was pretty good but nothing amazing. I got the burger plus which is a cheeseburger with pastami and "secret sauce." As far as I could gather, the secret sauce seemed to be ketchup and mayo mixed together. The burger was ok tasting, but like I said nothing amazing. I also got the green chile and cheese fries which were served in a massive portion. They were decent as well. Very reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. Overall, a decent place, but not great.

To start off don't let the outside fool you... it is completely different inside, decorated kind of cheesy but I liked it. Also i was worried about parking but in the back there were plenty of open spaces and a back door entrance which was nice. When i went in the lady behind the counter was very pleasant, personable and provided great customer service. I ordered a small greek salad with gyro meat and it was Fantastic... the small was a good size and the pita bread was warm and soft and seemed toasted which was great. They have very generous portions and prices and if it wasn't so far I would go at least once a week. I have tried many greek places in the denver area and I have finally found my favorite Greek spot!

They've changed the colors on the outside, and I think they've updated the signage as well. So, gone are the bright green door and trim. I love this place, mostly because of the family that runs it. There is another gyros option just down the street, but unfortunately, neither place is consistent enough to earn 100% of my gyro (my own personal heroin) business. I think I am going to be forced to get a gyro from each place and have a taste off, right there on the south curb of Colfax. Anyone have any other entrants to the contest?
