YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD GREASY SPOON/ HOLE-IN-THE-WALL DINER... it's a real shame that i don't live nearby!
i was lured in with an KGB deal! (which stated that lunch was take-out only BUT the workers were so accommodating they let us sit-in!)
8 oz burgers, mexican food, sandwiches, pastries, breakfast-fare (all typical of a joint like this!)
-----THEY CUSTOMIZE BREAKFAST BURRITOS: i had a LONG list of ingredients & they were glad to fill my order! sausage (the breakfast link ones i love!), onions, jalapenos, cheddar, eggs, and mushrooms... YUM although it was much smaller than i expected!
-----8 oz cali burger: like the sear & meat texture, although the meat was kind of bland!
there's only a few counter seats facing the kitchen & along the opposite wall, so i can imagine the workers developing a relationship with their customers!
NOTE: call before you come in because I think they close early if business is slow!Listed in: BREAKFAST.. never skip it!

Review from Ju L.
Very cramped with limited seating (two bars with stools). At the last minute, I decided I'd had a ridiculous number of burgers the past month and really wanted something Mexican. I got a torta milanese (fried pork). It was all right... the whole thing was pretty dry and a little bland. The boyfriend got a chorizo cheeseburger. It was tasty enough for something that = meat meat meat, but not very interesting.
You can watch them cook everything on the grill and it's definitely a huge hunk o' beef they slap on there, but in the end everything was pretty average.
...I'm not sure why Burger 1 is getting such rave reviews. Service was ok, food was nothing special, space is old looking but not even very neighborhood-y. Have UESers never seen a hole in the wall before? Doesn't automatically mean it's the most magical thing on the planet! Stop watching Guy Fieri. -

This is a simple review to write...
Basically, the best burger in NYC....
Forget all the other places....
You can't find a better burger at a better price....
Haven't tried anything else other than the burgers & fries, but it all looks and smells delicious....
Definitely recommended....
Will I go again? LOL ... I'll probably be there tomorrow!!

Typical dirty greasy spoon. Nothing special. It is an OK burger but the service is awful. Very slow, pushy, and rude waitress. Gave me the check while I was only halfway through my meal. There was one other customer in the place. She then came over three times to collect it and I stated to her I was still eating. Gave me several dirty looks. I don t like being disrespected. I will NEVER go back.

I've run into here a few times to just satisfy that need for something greasy, but also good. I've had burgers, tacos, fries and this morning a breakfast sandwich at Burger One. The food doesn't overly stuff your belly, but it definitely fills you up.
The prices are great. Less than $4.00 for my breakfast sandwich with chorizo? Unheard of around here.
Everything is made pretty quick, and how can it not be - the place maybe seats 10 people? The kitchen in my apartment may be bigger than the entire place. Every time I'm in there, it's always packed too. Even though it's not hard to do, I can't say that for other little joins like this in the neighborhood.
I probably hit Burger One once a week, and will continue to do so as long as I live on the Upper East Side. -

Not sure why this place gets such great reviews. Burger was extremely average. Got the onion rings instead of fries (husband had fries and said they would pretty good). The onion rings were just frozen from a bag and fried. The place seemed a bit dirty. Would not go back.

I came here with a kgb deal and ordered a bacon cheeseburger deluxe, chorizo taco, and a small chili. Based on the reviews i was expecting a much better burger from here. The burger wasn't bad, and considering the price it's a great deal, but it's really lacking flavor. The meat was cooked more than i usually like, but it was still really juicy. They just really need to add some seasoning to the meat, it was very bland. The fries are very fried which i enjoyed. The chorizo taco was really good and came with a great green sauce. Skip the chili, it was disgusting and i threw it out after a few bites. It just tasted like crappy beans and had no meat flavor at all. Don't plan on eating in the restaurant, it's extremely small so everyone ordering is on top of the people eating, it looks really uncomfortable.

We went to the nearby Shake Shack to find a huge line. After searching Yelp, we came across this place.
We walked in and found a greasy dive with a few barstools and a small kitchen. The menu has breakfast foods like omelets, eggs, etc., some sandwiches like Philly Cheesesteaks, a BLT, melted cheese, some tacos, and a variety of burgers.
The burger I had was nothing short of excellent: juicy, cooked perfectly, flavorful on a soft bun with tomato, lettuce and a pickle. My wife had a cheesesteak which ended up being the best cheesesteak we've had outside of Philly. The fries are also excellent.
When the weather warms, we plan on getting a couple burgers or tacos to go and heading for the park for a little picnic. -

Great greasy burger and great laid-back staff. Fries and onion rings were good as well.

Great homemade onion rings. Fries were also homemade, but to get the fries and onion rings 'made' in-house, you have to request them that way (they also have 'distributor' sides).
Everything was good, in general. Chicken strips/fingers/tenders were from a distributor. -

I was on my way to the Met and decided to stop in for a quick burger because, well, I was in the mood for one. I got the one with jalapeños and it was tasty.
Note: They also serve mexican food, but I'm not sure if it's any good. -

First visit at Burger One! Don't miss out on this cool burger joint. We're from California and know our burgers...great soft tacos.

When I was a kid growing up in Davis, CA, there was this burger joint in a mall where Safeway is called Giant Burger. In retrospect, there was something perfect about every burger I had there. I would run in there between pinball games with my brother and wolf down their cheeseburgers, completely taking the gorgeousness of these burgers for granted. I do remember that they always left me happy and wanting several more (but I was always broke because I spent all my money on pinball and video games.).
While the foodie burger joints are fine, they are not the REAL DEAL in my book. While my general memory pretty much sucks, my food memory is super sharp. When I walked into Burger One for the first time, I realized that I had found something that reminded me of Giant Burger.
Now I must say, the burgers are by far the best when the main guy is making them. You'll just have to figure out who that is, I don't know his name, I think he is the youngest of the cooks. -

I found this place on Yelp when I was at the Met and suddenly starving - starving in that "must have hamburger now" way - with no plans for lunch and it was already 2:30. Burger One was exactly what I needed.
It's not fast food - I went around 3:00 and was the only customer, and the guy had to fire up the grill and heat up the french fry oil for me. And the burgers are huge, so they take a long time to cook. But it was worth the wait. The burger was juicy, with more flavor than I've experienced in ground beef in a long time.
I normally never finish an order of fries, I get bored and they get cold, but these were hot out of the fryer and perfectly salted and before I knew it, they were gone!
The place did start to fill up while I was there. They were all regulars, but I didn't feel weird being the only stranger sitting at the counter.
The only downside is that I don't live in this neighborhood, so I won't have a reason to go back. -

This is the kind of place you walk to in the rain, because you thought about it for a second too long and now you must go. The necessary greasy spoon that the UES has almost none of. The kind of place where you start getting nervous a block away thinking that there might not be a seat at the counter bar. The kind of place you roll to solo because you're really in the mood for quality taste and it doesn't matter if no one wants to go with. The staff and regulars are very friendly.

I would guess that I like a burger just as much as the next guy. As I have been unemployed for the last few months, I have found pleasure in finding restaurants that offer above average fare, deliver it and at a reasonable price.
So, during an ordinary afternoon, I ordered some lunch. The reviews for he steak tacos were very good. I found them to be 'satisfactory'...
The Hamburger was actually good. The fries, nothing special.
Coca Cola lovers, they seem to have Mexican Coke. By this I mean Coke with sugar, only $1.75 a bottle..(!/?).
Although the food is actually good, what may stand out is the 'prices'..
I ordered enough for my lunch and dinner and it was barley above $20 bucks... -

Recently heard about this place from a friend who said, "Come meet us for one of the best breakfasts in the city?!" Please, BIG statement right?! Anyway, I ventured uptown, had a very tasty meal and have been back several times since. Note: it's an extremely small 'hole in the wall' with only two counters and around ten stools, with Spanish and broken English being the standard here. However, the burgers are good and the coffee, fresh and strong! It's not great, though certainly good and cheap, which is a rare combo in this hood! Went again this morning for the breakfast 'Special'...two eggs, bacon, home fries, toast and coffee... for $5.25 (before 10:00) Ridiculous! The pancakes and omelettes are good as well. If you're in the area, stop by, if you can fit.

Stopped in here after spending most of the day exploring the Met. I really wanted a good greasy burger, and this was it! There was so much on the menu, and I wish I was around longer to try more, but I was only in town for 2 days. Will for sure be back next time I'm around!

This is one my favorite local spots for lunch. They have great breakfast and great burgers. Try the tuna melt or the texan burger with a fried egg on it....ooooh, tasty. Affordable prices, bar seating or quick delivery.

Awesome place of the size of a closet. Had a delicious and juicy burger and the gyro platter. Definitely worth checking out if you are in a mood for a low cost alternative in the upper east side. Coke in a glass bottle brought my childhood memories!

For around the same price, you can get a much bigger wrap from Wrap N Run. But still, the wrap was good. A lot greasier and a lot spicier. I suggest you not get the soft taco because it is so small and costs $3. Don't try eating in this place because it gets cramped.
