Review from Josh V.
Truckee, CA
I have lived in Truckee for over 10 years but alas, my time has come to move on. Before I go however, I have promised myself to try all of Truckee restaurants that have intrigued me.
Burger Me. Put simply, the BEST hamburger joint in town. Many a times have I driven past this restaurant with its quirky location, but always found a reason to skip it. Maybe it was the thought of paying the Tahoe Tax for a hamburger, when I can just drive down the hill and get the tried and true In N Out for a few bucks. Whatever the reason, this place has escaped me. Until now.
My mission - to order the house hamburger and nothing else. I can save those fries for another time.
My order - hamburger with grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoe, pickles, and dressing. $7.01 including tax.
Result? Yes folks, this burger has made it into my top 5 hamburgers of all time. And you wanna know what put it over the top???
Was it the perfectly cooked beef, nice char on the outside and yet still moist inside? Maybe. Was it the flavorful onions and yummy dressing? Perhaps.
No my friends, it was the incredibly moist, spungy hamburger bun that sealed this deal. So many places take the bun for granted, but this yeasty treat was the most delicious carbohydrate I have eaten. I am not sure what or where they make their buns, but I stand up and applaud you Burger Me.
Burger me? Yes you may! -

Thank. you. Yelp.
I found this place because we were stuck in Truckee for a little while and needed some food to tide us over in the time we were there thus Yelp to the rescue. Only when I actually checked in there did I find that this was a triple D joint well!
Yes, let's address all the issues up front. The parking situation is interesting, but you can park across the street if needed be in the dirt. There aren't many tables inside and lots of families come here for obvious reasons since it's cheap and very casual. The staff is friendly, their shirts are funny and it's easy to order.
I recommend some of the wilder choices like Bison, Lamb, Veal etc. I know I'm going to check out the lamb burger next time because it sounds amazing!
They also have some killer big onion rings and good baskets of sweet potato fries. The order comes out extremely quick where you're almost like... is my food cooked?! But lo and behold. The juiciest, most delicious, most flavorful piece of burger meat you have ever tasted is now in your hands. Treat it with care and don't slather on multiple condiments. -

Checked out this place back in December when my college fellowship was in Truckee for a ski trip.
I ordered their daily special, the Burger patty melt, which was a great deal for only 5.99. The combination of cheese, hamburger, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing = Amazing! They definitely give you your money's worth in the amount of meat in their burgers. My friend ordered the bison burger and absolutely loved it. The prices for their burgers are a bit high, but it's worth it, because of the quality and
value.
I shared an order of the sweet potato fries and regular fries, and both were really delicious. However my friend had the onion rings and they were really oily and greasy. I highly recommend getting their chipotle mayo as a dipping sauce or to put on your burger. -

Great place, good beers and the best burgers!!
My wife and I both had burgers, with an order of sweet potato fries!!!
Awesome. -

I looked forward to trying this because of the "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" hoopla. It was overpriced and lousy. Have had better burgers and fries at Red Robin, Fuddruckers and In-N-Out Burger. And In-N-Out Burger is much cheaper.

My favorite place to get a burger. They claim to source their meat from best suppliers, and the burgers taste like it's true. There's always some eclectic choices, like bison or ostrich. And the sweet potato fries are the must have side order.

Review from Sylvie D.
Stumbled upon this place on our way home from snowmobiling up in Tahoe (if you're interested, check out Full Throttle!) and I'm sure glad we did. We were browsing around for a place to eat a late lunch, so when I saw reviews for this place that said it was on Triple D, I knew we had to check it out!
Came in a little after 3 PM and it seemed like we had picked a perfect time! Unlike other reviews, when i came in it wasn't too crowded, and there was even space for parking! Also, happy hour had just started. That day, the specials were $1 for PBR or fries/soda combo with any burger. Like I said, perfect timing :)
My boyfriend and I just decided to split something, and since it was his birthday, I let him have the choice. He asked the guy at the counter which was better, the burger or the pulled pork, and he pointed us towards the pork. When it arrived in front of our faces, I knew we had made the right choice.
This was the most gourmet pulled pork I've ever eaten. It's like elevated pulled pork. A delicious blend of pork marinated in a smokey bbq sauce on a crusty bun, piled with a purple cabbage apple slaw, and finished with a touch of blue cheese. OMG, I know right?! SO GOOD! The pork used was the perfect cut, with good bits of lean and fat meat (can't have a pulled pork be too lean!). And the bbq sauce it was in was great, not too sweet and not too smokey. It really let the pork stand out. Also, it's kind of a pet peeve of mind when pulled pork doesn't come with cole slaw (not enough texture!), so I was really excited when the sandwich here not only came with cole slaw, but purple cabbage cole slaw with apples for a superb crunch! Like i said, pulled pork elevated. Finally the blue cheese crumble lent a sightly salty taste throughout the dish to balance everything out.
So normally, I reserve my 5 star reviews for something that blows my mind out of this world. And while this place was super super good, it wasn't blow my mind. However, I'm giving it 5 stars anyways. Why? Well, (1) I like the fact that you can get "gourmet" or "upscale" burgers and sandwiches at a comfortable place. This place seems to pride itself on being fairly sustainable and fresh but its not pretentious at all. Fancy flavors at a down to earth place, I'm in. (2) Customer service was awesome. My boyfriend ended up getting another pulled pork sandwich, and the guy was so glad we enjoyed ourselves that he gave it to us for a discount. Plus, when they're not busy, they bring the food right to you. Overall, they're just really friendly and helpful when ordering or picking up, and it really adds to the overall relaxed vibe of the place.
So for those reasons and for their super super good pulled pork, Burger Me, you have upgraded yourself to 5 stars! -

Had the bison burger. It was good, though would have liked to see them actually give me med rare if they're going to take the time to ask. the sauces were good too. Expensive, but it's Truckee...what can you expect?

I always have to stop here when i'm headed to Northstar or Boreal. Their chili is off the hook and so is the ice cream malts! You must try the onion rings too! I have yet to try a bison burger... boy do I want to! I think someone needs to dare me! Definite must go! I bring extra chili home every time :)

Came here after a day of snowboarding. It was suggested by a friend. The burger to me was just average, the meat was tasteless and over cooked. They put a special sauce on the burger, I couldn't tell you what it was, you couldn't really taste the sauce. The bun wasn't that great either, more on the dry side. The sweet potato fries was much better. The staff didn't seem very friendly, no smile, didn't seem appreciative of the business. It seem like they dislike out of town people. Small parking lot, you need to park along side of the road.

Found this place on yelp and decided to try it after hitting up the slopes at Northstar. Parking during lunchtime is difficult and finding a place to sit is too. Try coming early or after peak lunch hours then you'll have plenty of space to eat and park in peace.
My cheeseburger was nice and juicy; I do like my burger a little bit medium rare. Cheese was perfectly melted, for those of you who love cheese, you know exactly what I'm talking about. All the ingredients, lettuce, tomato etc were all fresh on my burger. I also like the option of having a wheat bun. I know it's not even the slightest bit healthier with the wheat bun but I like having a choice. I did not come across a soggy fry, which is a miracle! All of them were crispy and lightly salty. -

I tried Burger Me last time I was in Truckee for business. I actually wasnt looking for this place specifically but it is centrally located right off the freeway and through a few round a bouts.
The parking is easy if its there, but when full, finding more parking seems like it would be difficult.
The ordering is at a order counter, with a large menu above to order from.
I told the hostess it was my first time there but that didnt mean much to her she just seemed to expect me to know how the process worked and what i was gonna order.
I got a basic cheeseburger and fries and a drink. The total was more than 10$, very steep for the portions you get here, plus it's serve yourself so they have little overhead when it comes to employees. Usually that means cheaper eats but hey this is truckee, and money is prevalent.
The burger was decent, although after i ordered i realized the menu had some much better and more exciting things on it other than just burgers. I wish the hostess would have made me aware of that. For the same price of the burgers you can get the specialty sandwiches as well.
The service was ok, i felt like they didnt really appreciate my business which to me is a pet peeve for sure.
They are somewhat famous for the fact 'Diners drive in and dives' came here and hyped up there food, but to me ill take in n out any day of the week over this, i could have had two meals and much better service at in n out for the cost of one meal and horrible service here. -

We happened to be flipping channels last night and landed on the clip of Guy Fieri doing a spot on this joint. We figured we would check it out on our way home... so today we stopped in about 1 PM. The place was full but there was no line. We each ordered a regular burger with one extra topping )$7 each and split an order of onion rings $2.50 and sweet potato fries $2.50. With two soda's the bill was about $24 - pretty reasonable for all the food... we couldn't finish the rings or the fries.
The burgers are huge and tasty. Definitely a great place to stop in for lunch.
I noted that even though there was no line - there were also no seats available. I found a table outside (it was pretty chilly but not too bad with our parka's on). Still ... the wait for our food was too long...over 25 minutes.
We noticed several groups of folks arrive and leave pretty quickly (obviously they decided not to stay) ...it did get busy and I heard several guys say that "when the line get's like this you will wait over an hour for your food - let's go somewhere else"
I minused a star for our wait ... two burgers, fries and rings should not take over 25 minutes in a burger joint. Sounds like they have issues with timing from the comments we heard.
RECOMMENDATION: Call ahead and place your order to go - pick it up and eat it there if you can find a seat or plan on heading over to the park just down the road near the railroad station. At least you won't have to wait an hour for your food AND you might get lucky and find seat...but if not at least you will avoid most of the frustration. -

Great place for a burger in Truckee.
Parking lot is tiny and the restaurant is on the small side as well. That said, their burgers were awesome as were the sweet potato fries. Best part? They have gluten free buns for the man. Woo hoo!
We'll be back. -
Review from Nic B.
I was in town with my family and my husband found this place on yelp. The service was amazing and the food was outstanding.
I got the Ahi Tuna burger and it was cooked perfectly and had the perfect amount of flavor. I love Ahi and it was one of the most amazing dishes I have tasted. The sauce they put on it had the right amount of kick and the garnish was really fresh. The dish had the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. Amazing.
We also got the sweet potato fries and regular fries. The sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly and great for small kids.
My husband said the burgers were really good and he is gluten free and they had special buns (he said they were not that great, but A for effort).
My kids got a shake and hot dogs. I had to "help the team" out and try my kids' food. Loved it. The hot dog was fresh and really tasty. The chocolate shake was fantastic and my kid had to rip it back out of my hand.
The services was 5 stars. My kids were starving and my baby was crying. To calm them down the server gave them taters of chocolate ice cream as she made the shakes with a huge smile. -

Found this place on Yelp while we were up in Tahoe. Placed togo order for a bacon cheeseburger with fried egg. Oh man it was good! Big juicy burger! The perfect comfort food when you're up there in the cold. Their fries were quite tasty too. Will definitely stop by again next time I'm in the area....
Their parking lot is pretty small (I think it only fits a few cars) but there's plenty of street parking. -

Recommended by the guy at Backcountry and it is certainly a great burger joint! Even Guy Fieri visited this place :) You'll see a picture of him on the wall. They also have a $1 happy hour special PBR or drink/fries. Condiments like banana peppers and onions are free. Definitely will come back whenever I'm in Truckee!

The Burger tasted like it was a pre-shaped one from the frozen section of Safeway. But the fries and sweet potato fries were awesome. Also, the dipping sauces & atmosphere are great.

San Francisco, CA
Wasn't that enthralled with it here. It was mobbed, however so apparently I'm in the minority of Truckee populace with that opinion. Crowd seemed mostly families with kids.
Thought the burger was dry, the bun stale and the onion rings were too greasy. Also the sodas are HUGE. Who needs an enormous 7-11 big gulp size worth of soda?
Next time I'll skip the onion rings, (the sweet potato fries seemed a lot better) and only get a single burger, not a double. Also, will try the shake instead of a soda to see if that's any better.
Willing to give it another try here and hopefully if we order different stuff will be a little better! -

The Best burger I ever had! YES I SAID IT....THE BEST! I had just the plain ol hamburger, but there was nothing just plain ol about it. the Beef was very flavor full, the bun was perfect and the veggies were fresh. I ordered the sweet potato fries and they were very good as well. My boyfriend ordered the
ahi tuna burger with a wheat bun and it was Delicious as well -

I had the Big Dippa. It was a French dip with a mountain of breaded fried onions. Delicious with or without the au jus. My hubby ordered a cheeseburger with bacon and fried egg. It was a delicious heart attack. The fries had a perfect presentation and the onion rings were humongous. The restroom was relatively clean, but the ladies room had a chair. Which I thought was awesome because I sat my toddler on it with my purse while I got to use the facility.

This is a perfect spot to go to after a day of boarding at Squaw. I got the special, a patty melt. It has 1/3 lb. beef patty with cheese, sauerkraut, extra caramelized onions on rye, and I dipped it in the chipotle mayo. Definitely hit the spot. It was a perfect mix of reuben and burger. It was a tad bit greasy, but what do you expect?

I was in town for snowboarding and saw this on Diners, Drive-ins, and Drives so I had to check this place out. I was very surprised how different the burgers were. Let me tell you, try the Truckee Trainwreck! It's very good and very tasty! It's a trainwreck alright; it has a fried egg, an onion ring, chili, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and of course the patty. I had trouble trying to bite it initially because it was so fat! Eventually I got through and pounded away. If you're in town, I recommend trying it!

What the hell.
I feel tricked. I can't believe Guy Fieri even recommended this place, or would televise this place. The burgers were definitely overcooked to oblivion... why would you do that? Even Wendy's burgers are better.
I ordered both the Italian Stallion and the Truckee Train Wreck. These were the most I've ever paid for crappy burgers. -
Review from Frank G.
I was really looking forward to visiting Burger Me when we were out in Tahoe for vacation late this past summer. When we entered, I was little put-off by the big picture of Guy Fieri on the wall (I call his show "Diners, Drive-ins and Dumbass"), but something as silly as that wasn't going to stop me from enjoying what the local Yelpers assured was going to be a very good burger.
I thought the burgers were pretty good, I would say a sold 3.5 stars. They were cooked well, but could have stood a bit more seasoning. I had the Truckee Trainwreck (cheese, chili, fried egg), my wife had the bison, and my father-in-law stuck with a classic. While I did enjoy my burger, I don't think any of the flavors really "popped" enough to make it a stand-out. It seemed they were piling things on there just to pile things on there, rather than composing a flavorful burger. Still good, but I was expecting more.
The onion rings, however, were amazing. You know how when you bite into most onion rings, you can't actually get through the onion itself, and wind up sucking the onion out, leaving only a hollow ring of batter? C'mon, I can't be the only one who has this problem. Anyway, that doesn't happen here... you get a clean bite right through the onion. I can only assume some type of black magic is at work.
The service was acceptable. Not really friendly (but it wasn't un-friendly), however it was accurate.
The only real problem with this place is the price. I think three burgers, two sides (shared), and one beer (two of us stuck with tap water) was something like $45. That's a bit much for a casual burger joint, but I guess in-line with prices in the area.
Overall, Burger Me is definitely worth a visit. I would return, but I would be more inclined to try out other places in the area next time we're out there for vacation. -

So I'm trying to eat healthier these days, though a bunch of friends chose this place swearing it to be amazing.
If you like burgers it is. Great variety, great quality, great tasting.
Expensive, but that's a Truckee thing, not just a restaurant thing.
I usually leave longer reviews, but that's about all there is to say on this.
oh ya, very crowded - can leave you walking or waiting for seating. -

Reading all the reviews, my boyfriend and I were quite curious and eagger to try this place. So we had lunch there.... Well, we were fairly disappointed.
The meat was completely over-cooked (charred really), the produce on the burger was ok, but the fries had no taste to me, just a greasy smell.
The staff was very friendly, but in an indifferent way. No smile, no eye contact.... Which is very unlike the regular charm of Truckee residents.
If you're looking for a simple burger, this would be an ok place, but if you are expecting something awesome based on the ratings and the fact that they are featured on the Food Network, brace yourself, you may be disappointed. -
Review from Steven G.
Fremont, CA
I don't care what Guy Fieri says Burger Me was a big disappointment.
Went there on a Monday night and the place was hardly busy yet somehow they were able to hammer every one of our six burgers we ordered.
All were small in size, overcooked, with minuscule slices of cheese that added no flavor. The buns were very average tasting (in fact even a little hard and bland). The french fries were very average, nothing special.
Total bill for six sandwiches, 2 fries, 4 drinks and 2 shakes was nearly $90.
It has the look and feel of a unique burger experience but simply does not deliver, especially for the price. Just about any fast food burger place has Burger Me beat by a country mile.
Save your money! -

Stopped in on our way home from skiing. On a Monday at 2pm it was really busy, but the holiday weekend might have had something to do with that. So we waited a little while for our food and it was hard to score a table but we found one. I got the daily special of a patty melt. It was very good. The sweet potato fries were tasty. My brother had a bacon cheese burger, he said it was good but not the best he's had, comes in at 3rd place. The food around us looked good, I'd like to go back and try the onion rings and bison burger. Overall good food after skiing.

My family ended up here as a backup plan when we weren't able to get in to the ski swap because the line was out-the-door, it was snowing & we have a 20 month old baby.
We ordered 2 kids hotdog meals, 2 burgers, sweet potato fries, beer, sodas & a gyro burger. We all enjoyed our meal. The hubby says his gyro burger was a little small for $10, but it is natural meat & understandably more expensive. The bun was delicious. I remember thinking, 'if we lived in Truckee we'd be able to eat here more often....' -

Los Altos, CA
My brother saw this place on Diners Drive-ins and Dives and really wanted to try it. The place was packed so obviously it's a neighborhood favorite.
I ordered a veggie burger with sauteed onions and mushrooms and made it a combo (onions rings and a soda).
The veggie burger was very good. As a vegetarian who was tried many different veg burgers, this was right up there. Very flavorful and substantial - lots of mushrooms in it I believe.
The onion rings were acceptable. Normally eating rings to me is a big splurge - I only do it every so often. But when I do, I enjoy them tremendously. There were *meh*. Quite greasy, as were the fries that I stole from my brother.
Two combo meals with tip came up to about $26 which seemed steep. I felt stuffed after I left - which soon evolved to feeling gross. No onion rings for me next time.
After I had already ordered and grabbed a seat, I noticed on the menu that there is a big salad and you can get a burger patty on top (or chicken). That would have been a better size and less grease. I'll be back for sure, but ordering a salad with veggie patty!!! -

July 24, 2011 Sunday - dinner 5 PM
2 adults and 1 kid
Atmosphere - 5 stars
Food - 5 stars
Service - 5 stars
Atmosphere - Garage like atmosphere with lots of metal covering the walls and big doors that were wide open allowing a nice breeze into the place. Love the menu board being a chalk board. Kids menu had its own chalk board.
Food
Appetizer - none today.
Main Course - Yes I went to a burger joint and did not order a burger. I went with the Ahi Tuna Burger, sushi grade tuna seared with wasabi spread and Sriracha sauces. It was so good. Sorry my picture does not do it justice. Love the onion rings, and these were large ones, large enough to be a bracelet for my daughter. These were thick beautifully crusted rings that you could see several layers of onion inside of it. I stole some of the sweet potatoes fries, cut shoe string style. I could eat those all night with a good beer.
Dessert - Stuffed and skipped it for the night.
Service - The cashier was friendly and helpful. They take your name after you place the order. When it is ready they call out your name and find you after signally them down.Listed in: My Triple D's
