Though AT&T Park has done wonders for this part of San Francisco, there haven't been too many new restaurants open up in the area. Thankfully, Burger Joint does provide a nice place to eat before going to a Giants game.
My usual order is a hamburger (with bacon added), regular fries and a soda. The $11 that costs me is a little pricey, but I'd rather pay that here than at the fast food joint around the corner. Plus, if you're going to a Giants game, this burgers is cheaper than anything you'll find in the park and tastes a ton better! The burgers are always fresh and delicious, and the fries always hot. Plus, you can watch whatever sporting event is on one of the TV's, and the dining room is always clean.
I will always recommend the burgers, but not the cheese steaks. I've had them a couple of times, but the bread it's served on is not substantial. The last time I ordered one, I had to fork-and-knife it. Stick with the basics here. -
Review from Austin W.
Positives:
- Close to my work, no line around dinner time (6pm).
Negatives:
- Super plain burger. Standard quarter pounder, not even seasoned with salt and pepper.
- Buns were not toasted on the grill, and did not taste too fresh either.
- Plain burger with steak fries came out to $10. Definitely better burgers to be had elsewhere (like at Super Duper on Market!) for cheaper.
Wouldn't recommend this place given the plethora of other eateries nearby. -

They make a good burger but it's pricey. A burger with grilled onion, bacon, sweet potato fries and a Coke ran me over $16. If it was $10 this would easily be a 4-star joint for me.
The three times I've been here, the veggies were fresh, and the burger was tasty and cooked nicely. It's consistent.
One thing that I actually do like is the simplicity. They don't have a million crazy frou-frou San Francisco ingredients to choose from. So I am forced to get a legit-old-fashioned burger with bacon, lettuce and tomatoes.
That appeals to me. -

For a place that looks and feels like a fast food joint the service was on the slow side of things. The burgers were extremely forgettable as well.

I met up with my girlfriend in SOMA for a long lunch and try something new. There's lots of choices along King Street, including the new Lucky Strikes. Instead of all that business, we decided to give Burger Joint a try.
I ordered the cheeseburger with fries, with a coffee shake. At $15, this was a pretty crazy price to pay for the world's most boring burger. The fries were totally unseasoned and all of the food here comes from Cisco. Boring, tasteless, and uninspired. The single bright spot was the coffee shake, which was thick and tasty. My girlfriend's chicken Caesar salad was plain and expensive at almost $10. Extras are absurdly priced too.
I was totally blown away by Burger Joint, and in all the wrong ways. Service was just so-so but at least they've got some dog-friendly tables outside. The joint is clean, but it's such a shame that the food is so unsatisfying and plain. In fact, it really makes me miss Islands in San Diego. Even the fries come out frozen. Sad.
Food: 4/10
Service: 5/10
Price: $$
Atmosphere: 5/10 -
Review from Saba S.
Okay food for going to AT&T park but it leaves a lot of room in the food department. Specifically, I had the SF Cheese steak which had succulent meat, caramelized onions and a nice serving of cheese. Why don't you guys make it with a toasted garlic bread? Smaller and thinner fries with some old bay or seasoning on them. Make those changes and you can increase your business. I would go again if I had to go to another game.

Have eaten here quite a bit, as it's close to work so great to eat before I start my shift. Must say the burgers have been really good every time, fresh, big, yes a lil more pricier then other places but so is the area. There is a McDonald's around corner if you want a $1 burger.
Place has always been clean.
Only reason why not giving 5 stars is the staff, the young girl who was sitting texting on her phone as I walked in, the expression & body language I got from her made me feel like I was forcing her to serve me. I was the only person in the whole place. Sorry 4 interrupting your status update. She definitely looked like she didn't wanna be there. There's plenty of people trying to find work. If you don't like your job find somewhere else to work. However the others I've had have been gentlemen & pleasant. -

Stopped by this joint with some friends after Giants fan fest, which is located about a block from AT&T Park. Decent burgers, but a little tad bit pricey, if you ask me, but still enjoyable. My friend and I shared a classic cheeseburger with fries (we were so full from all the ballpark food) and it was pretty nummy =)
Good place to go to before or after a game if you're craving for burgers. Just to warn you, it does get busy and filled with Giants fans on game days ;). I'd come back here again. Next time, I will definitely explore other things on the menu. -

Not really sure what this place is trying to be...
* Sort of decorated/themed like a diner, but not quite there and just depressing
* Menu reflects that of McDonald's, but McDonald's is cheaper and better
* Service is slow and food is very much below average -

Delivered through Seamless...
Amazing, thick & juicy hot dog, crispy yet thick cut fries.
Burger had very high quality meat, yet could has used a bit more seasoning. Topped with very flavorful grilled onions though. Onion rings also left something to be desired as they had no seasoning in the batter. -

Price to quality ratio is pretty low. The burgers just lack that juicy factor that you expect at $10 a burger. Charging extra for more toppings (that aren't the fresh) don't score you any extra points.
I would give them a 4 rating if they still had the burger happy hour (50% burgers). -

HAIKU REVIEW
Jaw-dropping prices.
The meat should be good. Should be.
Burger's in your name.
Safeway tomatoes:
Flavorless, pale, pink-rose.
Lettuce felt sadness.
Boorish condiments.
Everything else costs extra.
Bun was not toasted.
Quite disappointing.
Twelve bucks later, face furrowed.
Burger's in your name!!!! -

Decent quality burgers, pretty good variety of choices of cheeses/combos.
Pricey. A burger, and a drink will run you about $10.
Still the best place in the area of the ballpark to get a decent burger. -

Ehh. Just ok. The burgers are always bland...always. I do like the fries, however but I seem to be in the minority amongst friends.

The burgers here are decent, but not worth the price. I've tried their beef and turkey burgers. Just okay. The extras are pretty pricey on top of the already overpriced burgers, so if you like mushrooms or avocados, be prepared to break the piggy bank. The fries, both regular and sweet potato, are actually pretty good here. If I were a vegetarian and only ate salad and fries, this place would get 3 stars.
I had a bad experience at the SFO location. They completely charred nearly a third of my turkey burger. I am still perplexed at how a cook could scoop that burger off the grill and think a customer would be okay eating something like that.
Based on my last experience at SFO and the underwhelming food, I will never eat at a Burger Joint again. I would rather get in my car and drive to a In-N-Out or Five Guys. The main reason I patronized the SOMA location was due to its proximity to my apartment and the lack of eating options in the area. -

I think this place was great. Went there before a Giants game and had a great burger beer and excellent service.

I am confused about why this place was so recommended by friends.
I figured I would give this place a shot since the liked it so much. I love burgers, especially good ones so I was excited to give them a go. Needless to say I was disappointed. The food is okay, not bad but not great and imho overpriced. A friend and I got a burger and dog that came up to 25 bucks....
I would say if its on your way and you want a decent burger give it a try but its definitely not worth going out of the way for. -

I'm from Philly so I don't know what the EFF I was doing ordering a cheesesteak sandwich here when as a rule I don't order them unless I'm in Philadelphia. But I was feeling crazy!
The grilled onions were delicious and sweet but that's not the only reason why this should be called a grilled onion sandwich WITH meat and cheese.
I shouldn't have to tell you not to order the cheesesteak sandwich at burger joint since there are a lot of intelligent people here. As for the burgers, ditto what everybody else said. -

Overpriced.
Veggies on the burger were not fresh.
Burger wasn't that juicy.
I'm not impressed.
I don't even feel like writing something witty or more descriptive.
They either need to drop prices to reflect the quality of food or raise the bar on quality to match the price.
The only thing that stops this from being a 1 star was the root beer float. But it was a close call. -

SOMA, San Francisco, CA
The burgers are decent, not great.
They aren't cheap, but aren't overly expensive.
There aren't a whole lot of creative toppings available.
In short, I just don't get what is so special about this place. It is convenient to me, in a good location, near the ballpark, all good things. But I just don't really see myself going back to often. The burgers just not worth it.
Also, the regular fries suck, the sweet potato fries are really good. -

I've gone to this location more often than the Haight location (which is now closed down BOOOO) and it can get busy at lunch during the week, but it was worth the walk over there. I absolutely *love* their french fries, good, crispy, hot, and loaded down with ketchup and malt vinegar!! (seriously, why don't more places carry malt vinegar? Is it a British thing only or something? Please carry more malt vinegar!)
The burgers are decent and I like their veggie burger than most other places. Pretty standard though, not much on extra toppings, but a good solid burger overall.
I'd go to this place for the fries mainly. I haven't found too many places with fries this good (except for in Canada, where I can get gravy for them.... seriously, what is the aversion to putting gravy on fries in California???)
Also, huge tables. HUGE. We'd go there with just four of us and feel dwarfed. You could easily sit anywhere between six and eight people at a table. Bring your kids, your mom, your grandma, your great aunt Edna... you can fit em all in the seats and have great amazing french fries with malt vinegar! -
Review from Kevin J.
Good burgers, and great location. If you feel like a trashy, yet tasteful, low-key, nitty-gritty burger - Burger Joint is the place to be. The prices are right and the food is good. If only they came with more fries when you order them.
grab a bite and walk to the game or better yet, grab a burger to go and eat it on your CalTrain ride home. -
Review from Sara W.
This place was just what we were looking for. The prices were probably a little higher than they needed to be, but my veggie burger (no cheese) was just fine. I like that you can put the ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce yourself, and that the vegetables are on the side. Didn't take long to get the food either. The fries were enough - they're pretty big!

Ordered for delivery. Delivery person refused to bring the food to the door, saying he was too busy. Being too busy to serve customers seems like a bad idea to me.

Review from George A.
I'm a little surprised this place doesn't have better reviews. Granted, I've only been here once, and it was on a not-so-busy weekday, but when Burger Joint had a location in the Lower Haight I used to order from there quite a bit, and always found it to be good. This location was pretty much the same.
It's clean, there's a lot of seating, and they even have a TV to catch a game. I just grabbed a cheeseburger (w/pepperjack) and it was tasty. Granted, I'm not too picky when it comes to burgers, but I thought everything from the bun to the patty tasted fresh, and it was made-to-order. The burger came with fries, which were nothing to write home about, but they they were hot and there was nothing offensive about them.
The prices here are adequate IMO. Most of the burgers (which come with fries) are around $10, which I think is fair. I'm not in this area too often, and if I am it's for a Giants game, so I'm more likely to be at a bar, but if I ever felt like a burger I'd come here again. -

I had the most excellent cheddar cheese burger with avocado, bacon and grilled onions before a Giants game across the street at AT&T Park. My dinner plate of a burger and fries was so huge that I couldn't finish it all.
My only gripe was the price: $17.99 for a super amped cheeseburger, fries and a homemade lemonade. I love them for actually making fresh lemonade on site when others serve Minute Maid. -
Review from Paul M.
Totally middle-of-the-road. I appreciate that they use Niman Ranch beef, but that's about the only natural-related thing I can see here. Burgers are generously-sized and not comical like a fast food joint.
The prices are indeed high, but for the area they're not atypical.
Very much an "eh" experience. Certainly not bad, but definitely not a destination. -
Review from Maggie C.
San Francisco, CA
I'm surprised how low the rating is with this burger joint. I pop by every now and then when I need to take Cal-train and it's almost always empty.....I have no problem with their food, the meat patty has a nice grill taste to it, sweet potato fries were yummy.
However, the staff is probably why the rating is bad. They all stand around and watch the game that's on TV. The few times that I dined-in, the guys will not even stand behind the register, so if you happen to walk by, you might think the place is closed.
Sometimes cheerful staff is what makes people wanna come back. If the owner is reading this, is isn't the price/food that's keeping people away. It's most likely the hospital lighting and UN-Enthusiastic staff. -

I was starving before my class, so I stopped by for a quick bite.
Cheeseburger $8.45 - the homeless man @ Safeway loves it.
Cheese Steak $8.95 - mediocre for me.
2.5 Stars for good service! -

You can do better with the food inside AT & T.
Tried the PepperJack burger, and the patty was depressing/ low quality. For $8.45 I could just go to Carl's Jr and at least get a more ,juicy burger. I'm not even into Carl's Jr much these days, so take that as you see fit.
Fries were crunchy and not very good.
Very cool that you can get Fat Tire on draft for $3.00.
Was creeped out by the busser, food runner ( was he a manager?) Dude, don't just place and grab condiments/my order on the table while giving me the stoic glare of angst. That makes people about as comforable as being a contestant on " The Human Centipede".
All in all, not my 7th or even 8th choice for a burger in SF. If this was located elsewhere it wouldn't be so busy.
What's that ?
There's other locations in SF?
I've never been a fan of Idiocracy, but always insisted it arrived awhile back and thrives amongst many.

Madeleine's thoughts
So I came here starving before a Giants game with some friends. I left full, but only because I made myself eat my food. I'm not saying it was bad, but I got the veggie burger and it didn't seem seasoned too well. I was sad that I missed out on the "swap regular fries for sweet potato ones" option, because I totally would've done that.
They also assume that because I wanted a veggie patty that I also wanted a whole wheat bun, something it did not tell me on the menu. I was also sad when I realized our table had no ketchup or mustard on it. For reals? Not enough condiments in a burger place?!
Overall I thought the burger was alright but not for that price, the service was hectic and rushed, and I would have preferred getting a sandwich from the huge Safeway a few blocks down. -

San Francisco, CA
After a disappointing experience at the AT&T store next door, i stopped here for a bite. It was some time between 2-3pm on a weekday. The place is clean, service was quick, and the hamburger came with a side of fries.
Some people mentioned the hamburgers were not good. I personally think the meat was cooked well enough but i agree on there was nothing to report home about. Perhaps more seasoning or marinated beef.
They do have TVs so i ended up watching sports network while i wondered about my bad experience at the at&t shop. I think as an alternative place to grab a bite during a rainy and disappointing day, this place is a great place to let your thoughts meander. -
Review from Arnold W.
I didn't have their burgers or food, but it didn't look like it's too special. 4 stars for the beers on tap. You can have two $4 beers here, or just one $9.75 beer down the block at AT&T park. I'd rather have cheap beer!!

I just got a burger and fries from here and found them to be mediocre. Granted, they weren't pricey so I didn't feel ripped off, I was still expecting some sort of satisfaction from eating them. The burger patty was a bit too pink for my taste and the fries were a bit bland. I won't be going back for another burger, but I may return to try the milk shakes.
Not bad, but you could go somewhere else that's better. -
Review from Peonie S.

If I'm in the mood for a gourmet burger, this place more than satisfies my cravings.
It's a little pricey cause of the area it's in, but it never disappoints. Even my best friend who is a burger fanatic is a fan of the Burger Joint.
All burgers come with fries, just don't forget to ask to switch out your fries for a salad if you want the salad instead. -
Review from Andrew Y.
I admit, it's a little pricey, but everything tastes really good. I had the cheeseburger ($8.45) with mushroom ($1.50). I also had onion rings substituted. I wish there were some additional onion rings. I think I got about 7 or 8. They have tv's playing the sports you want to watch, but I think this is more of a run in, eat and walk down the street.
Staff, really nice. -

I got food poisoning at Burger Joint
We went to mexico on vacation, came back to SF on a Friday. Saturday night decided to go to Burger Joint. Sunday morning, I was puking my brains out. For 2 days i had a fever, chills, bad stuff coming out on each end, stomach cramps. It was horrible. its my third day, i feel a little better, no fever no chills, but bad stuff is still coming out and it feels like someone is stabbing me in the stomach.
I called and talked to the manager at buger joint and he dismissed my concerns even chuckled a bit. Maybe out of nervousness, i don't know. But just wanted to inform them, so no one else gets sick! Stupid manager.
So I'm off to the doctor to see if they can help stop the cramping and other things.
This place is sketch. Don't do it. -
Review from Ed U.
"Niman Ranch Natural Beef" ...Warning! ...Warning!
So we all know there are the good bad burger places and the bad good burger places. A good bad burger place would be like, oh I don't know...In-n-Out or maybe Tony's Cable Car on a good night. A bad good burger place generally has that tell-tale tagline..."Niman Ranch Natural Beef". The literal translation is..."We paid a lot for our meat, so we're gonna gouge you 'til your eyes pop out into AT&T Park."
I didn't hold out much hope for Burger Joint given the months-long delay in opening, and I was never a big fan of the one on Valencia when I ate there in the B.Y. era (Before Yelp). But Jamie W. and I felt a need to give the new place a go since we'd like to see more foot traffic in the Mission Bay area beyond the local condo dwellers. The good news is that it's spacious...tall ceilings, plenty of red booths, clean restrooms (at least for now). But that weird, faux-beachside blue wall color has to go...blech.
I had the $8.75 Double Mini Cheeseburger and Fries, which for whatever reason, I thought would be two sliders like you'd find at a nice bar. It's actually two small patties on a smaller-than-average bun. In a way, I was relieved since I don't need the extra carbs, but I think the price is a bit steep for something that teeny-tiny. Having just made a return visit to Val's in Hayward where fries come overflowing in a basket, I thought the portion of fries here was paltry. As it turned out, mine was the smarter purchase since Jamie had the regular cheeseburger for about thirty cents less, and he thought the patty was far too thin to be satisfying.
Mine would have been a decent burger if I wasn't all that hungry. But when does that ever happen? At least the ingredients were fresh. I wonder if they will offer free WiFi because the space seems to be tailor-made for laptoppers, but my guess is that the owners want a quicker turnover in their booths. There weren't too many customers when we were there, so their concerns may be unfounded, at least until game days.
FOOD - 3 stars...decent enough when you're not too hungry...ka-ching
AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...spacious enough but that electric blue gives me a visual shock
SERVICE - 3 stars...perfunctory at best
TOTAL - 3 stars...it's OK, I guess...but Mission Bay is in dire need of better dining options -
Review from Eddie H.
I was looking forward to this place opening (perhaps more than anyone else) since summer 2007. Countless setbacks and today was suppose to be the big day. As one friends mentioned - this place reminds him of the Max on Saved by the Bell. The color scheme here is hideous.
All these damn chains keep sneaking into South Beach - what gives? Do people really like chain restaurants that much? The only acceptable chains I'd ever allow in my neighborhood are Starbucks and In-N-Out.
I won't comment on the service / wait as it's a new place and still working out all the kinks (I'll give them that). What I will comment on is the food. The menu is limited; burgers decent at best (not terrible); fries were ok (thicker cut - I don't like thick fries).
Let it be known - the best burger in South Beach is (and always will be) 21st Amendment - all others are a distant second. Also, if you're not into burgers, there are plenty of places nearby with better food at cheaper prices so there is really no need for me to step foot in this place again.
The best part about this place is that it's really cool inside - A/C is cranked up (which is key during the summer as South Beach is one of the hottest places in S.F.) I wonder if they'll allow me to bring food from other places inside? -
Review from David D.
This place looks just right.
It's decorated like a classic all-American drive-in. It has medium-loud music playing, and it's nicely air conditioned. There are booths, outdoor tables, and seating for about 100 people. The staff is courteous, and the food is just about what you'd expect.
Well, actually, the french fries are perfect! Crispy and tasty. The burger itself, is a little overcooked and kind of tasteless. Like the Niman Ranch cattle were on a diet the day they went to market.
A cheeseburger, with fries and a Coke, cost $11.28 + tip. At least it's a reprieve from the McDonald's a block away.Listed in: Mission Bay
