My favorite burger in Chico..... or at least one of my top two!
We used to head over to this place and get a starving student special and pay in quarters. The burgers here are always awesome, LOVE the BBQ sauce and the do-it-yourself Burger add on bar.
Many, many burgers were imbibed by me and my room mates at this spot! Check it out! -

Check out Nobby's though if you don't like this place. Word. Also, if you LOVE Burger Hut, get on their mailing list, decent deals on burgers and free food from time to time. -

Good times and good service. The burgers here are great and the fries too. I remember one time they had a throw back price to when they first opened. I ordered and had to wait an hour and half, but the girl working took my number and called my house when it was ready to pick up. She was slammed and didn't have to do that, but she did it for everyone. That type of service hooked me for good.
Don't like all the toppings well you are in luck because you do it yourself...this is what is unique about this fun place. -

I've had better burgers & I've had worse. It is certainly not the first choice for me as THE place to get a good burger. Way more bun than meat although I had gotten a quarter lb burger. Had a weird BBQ taste. If I wanted BBQ, I would have gotten BBQ. Nothing special to write home about this burger. I would say it is a step above a fast food joint, but not quite as good as Big Chico Burger. If I was heading home from drinking downtown, then yea, it's an ok burger for late night because you won't care at that point, you just want something in your system.

Best burgers in Chico.
You get to dress them yourselves. If you dont like bbq sauce, let them know, because they put it on the burg before they cook it.
Their secret thousand island style sauce is great for dipping fries in.

Well, I tried to find a mom and pop shop type burger joint instead of eating out at a fast food chain. I ordered a simple hamburger meal (hamburger, fries, and a coke). The price was decent, about $8 total. I ordered "to-go". When my order came up, the lady put it in a tray and handed me just the burger. I told her I ordered the meal and it was to-go. she said "yeah, go put your toppings on it at the salad bar!" WTH? if i wanted to put together my own hamburger, i would have made one at home. whatever. i did it, and she bagged it for me. the burger was pretty tasty, and the fries were good too. Not a bad meal, but still haven't found a place out here in Chico worth going to more than the one time.

Food is good, but its expensive. Expect to pay extra for literally everything they ask you. I think they even charge more for whipped cream on their already $4 milkshakes.

The Burger Hut really impressed me with the amount of care they put into...well, everything!
It's a quaint place, but you'll be served with a smile and kindness. There are a lot of decisions to make, so take your time. You can choose how you'd like your burger prepared, what cheese, what toppings, and the kind of bread. There are also weekly specials. Choose a side, and any sauces you'd like to accompany your meal.
I had my burger with cheese, and a fried egg. It's a good size, and you'll probably have to squish it down to fit it into your mouth. It was cooked medium as I asked, and was really fresh tasting. I especially was pleased that it was a balanced flavor; it wasn't too salty, or too anything, really. Just delicious. I also shared a few potato chips with my party, and they were nice and crisp, without being overly greasy. -

I used to go to Burger Hut all the time, but hadn't been there since moving across town about six years ago. Today I took the family in for lunch. $23 for 2 kids burgers, 2 big burgers, 2 drinks, and 2 small fries. The place has really lost its vibe. The energy and enthusiasm the workers used to have is gone. The food was ok. The lettuce on the condiment bar was wilted. I ordered the 1/4 pound burger with BBQ sauce, but got the smaller patty without BBQ. The cook just shrugged when I pointed it out. There are better burgers, for a better price, with better service in Chico. Burger Hut is no longer the Best Burger in town.

They got over fifty orders correct with no errors on change, prices or food. (Kids, chaperones and volunteers)
As a college counselor finding a good deal is very important me, and my non profit. But additionally finding a place that encompasses the culture of the school we are visiting is equally important to me. I had sent out a feeler yelp message about four months ago and someone had recommended this place to me. In contacting Trevor, who's family has owned the Burger Hut empire for almost thirty years, was very responsive.
Huge patio at this location which is a fifteen- twenty minute walk from campus. I was greeted and watching those guys manage the burgers and fries was something else.
So our order was
numerous hamburgers
numerous cheeseburgers
1 chicken sandwich
several veggie options
plus fries and drinks.
Within twenty minutes all my students, chaperones and volunteers had a drink, hot out of the fryer fries and some type of sandwich.
Again I would like to emphasize: NO ERRORS.... EVERYTHING WAS QUICK, FRESH AND WE MANAGED TO GET 30 STUDENTS IN AND OUT ONTO THE PATIO WITHOUT ANY HICCUPS. It was a dream.
What I paid was a dream as well. For approx 250 (with a 10% discount for being a large non profit education group) we feed a massive amount of people. Everyone was happy.
The lettuce was fresh, the toppings were numerous and free refills of soda/ beverages are always welcomed...... If I could I would give ten stars.... Burger Hut was a highlight on our college trip and a place we want to go back to (high school students or not).Listed in: College Tour Norcal

So good, I bought a shirt!
My brother played on an independent baseball league and Chico was one of their stops. His girlfriend has family there, so put 2 and 2 together and we made it a big ol' party.
Enter, Burger Hut. As per my brother's rave reviews, we all went to lunch there one day. And he was spot on!!
I ordered the onion rings and a chocolate shake, as I wasn't starving for mass quantities of food. My boyfriend ordered a ginormous chili dog thing that um, was slightly phallic. I'm just sayin. :)
My brother ordered a burger with 3 or 4 patties, oozing with cheese and unbelievable. He proceeded to go and "build his own" and well, let's say that he fully took advantage of that option. I'm still trying to figure out how he got his mouth around that thing!
The onion ring portion was more than enough. They were crisp, yet I would have liked a bit more of a punch with the onion flavor. I sampled the chili dog, the monstrous burger and the french fries, all of which were SO good! It made me wish I would have ordered a burger for myself. There will always be next time!!
Oh yes, the secret sauce. HELLO! Make sure to dip your fries (and even your rings) in that stuff!
If you like a casual atmosphere and hanging out eating messy, delicious, quick food at picnic benches with your friends, then you need to hit up The Burger Hut!!!! -

I grew up in Chico, and I loved going to Burger Hut on Friday nights as a little girl with my family. Back then, we squeezed into our seats on the benches at our picnic table and watched the flames shoot higher and higher on the grill, which made the grill masters look slightly initimidating. Wait, did they just call our name? Impossible to decipher the overhead speakers. Then, you get to march through the line with everyone else, putting your fixings on your burger, while the more adventurous among us decorated our french fries with various sauces as well. The hut was both friendly and cozy and to our small eyes venturing near the college crowd, filled with flames and a vague sense of danger. It rocked.
Fast forward 25ish years or so...its not quite the same, and the one on the other side of town is hardly worthy of the name "hut", with its nice tables and non-scary, clean-cut burger makers. Its gone totally mainstream. Veggie burgers? Puh-leeaze. Nowadays the basic cheeseburger tends to be a dry little hockey puck, though the bbq sauce is still quite tasty. And where are the columns of flames that used to shoot up to the ceiling? I still go here every time I go back to Chico, but somehow, the burgers just aren't as good as I remember them being. Doesn't stop me going there though.
The shakes are still good, and the fries are too. This and Madison Bear are the two great old standbys of life in Chico.
PS: Bring back the flames!Listed in: The Chico list

I'm not exactly a burger fan, but this is probably the best burger I've ever had. I'm giving it a four because the wait can get pretty long if you go in around dinner/lunch time. I also enjoy their question per day (on Nord Ave, that is), if you answer right you get a free soda.
If I want to have a casual burger for lunch or dinner, Burger Hut's my choice. -

The best burger ever!
You pile on the fixins, good selection too, jalapenos, and the must have "special sauce"-great on fries too.
Best to get the seasonal special; burger, drink, basket-o-fries. Yummo! -

Burgers are 'ok', not memorable at all. Condiments did not seem fresh as even the lettuce looked like it was from two days ago. Told the girl up front I was new and had never been there. I asked for grilled onions to which she said "Sure!" and charged me almost a full dollar just for asking my onions to be grilled. Failed to let me know about this charge full knowing I had never been there. In fact, who charges extra for grilling your onions anyway? Better value and burgers to go to In N Out who does not charge for grilling burgers.
When I brought it to her attention she said she could refund me with a tone that felt sarcastic and mocking. I declined and decided to never come back here again and give them this review instead. -

Ahh Burger Hut. I used to live right down the street, and stopping in at B-Hut on the way home from class was always enjoyable. I had a roommate who would do it 3-4 times a week. No joke.
The burgs are very very tasty, and im all about the 'build your own' system. The produce is always fresh, and i love choosing my cheese.
The fries portions are legendary. A small is enough for multiple people, and I imagine a large order may feed the full town. On top of that, they are actually really tasty, and you can load up on 'special sauce' to dip them in. Awesome.
Just know that the place fills with burg smoke like a goddamn sauna. You bathe in it. It consumes you and your clothing and you walk out smelling like very vegans worst nightmare.
But who cares about vegans anyway! Youve got a rad burg, eff em! -

The veggie burger, cooked by that guy who looked like Matthew McConaghey and didn't wear underwear who used to scratch himself with the spatula = good times.
Props for the condiment bar and massive fry portions. Not the best burger around, but in Chico, this is the place. -

I only went here because i got to use dorm dollars, Craig hall free $$$. Burgers are gross, so are there fries. Lettuce and tomatoes are unlimited but really old looking. will not be returning.

Burger Hut is pretty good for fast food. Their burgers are OK, nothing special (and I noticed that the self-serve condiments were kinda on the not-so-fresh side), but their fries are incredibly delicious and flavourful and they're given in fresh, generous portions. They have this thousand island mayo stuff that is simply amazing. I've only seen it at Burger Hut. The girls working behind the counter are perky, amiable, and will answer whatever question you have without an attitude.
The biggest turn off for me was adding bacon to my burger. Apparently, their bacon is cut into paper thin wafers that match the size and shape of their burger patties. It was just this sad little greasy circle; not what I was expecting to get at all. In fact, I have never seen bacon served this way unless it's also referred to as "Canadian." How hard is it to serve your customers some thick, traditionally cut bacon, Burger Hut!? -

This place used to rock in the 1980-90s. But for some reason it has gone downhill. Maybe the owners are getting tired, or maybe they simply don't care anymore.
I remember the days when the place was jammed full and the burger patties were big. The fries were cut and cooked to perfection and the condiment bar was stocked full of great selections.
Today, however, this burger joint has given up.
Gone are the multitude of condiments. Only are the expected items you can find on a backyard BBQ. The buns are horrible and the taste is less appealing. The bar is filthy most of the time and the condiments are not always fresh. Even the decor and seating has deteriorated.
All-in-all, the place needs to either re-vamp itself or close down. I'd be afraid to pull the grill away from the wall and take a look behind it.
But, as long as people will shell out $6-7 for a burger and then actually have to build it themselves with dingy condiments, the place will continue to push it out.
I say go down the street (to the south) and "Have It Your Way". At least you know what you're getting. ;) -

Burger Hut... ah those were the days. Trust me people, once you leave Chico you will always remember Burger Hut with adoration. I have kept a constant hunt for great burgers ever since and Burger Hut is definitely one to meet up to standards-wise. One of these days I'll be back in Chico and it will be my first stop.

Love this place. I live literally next door and prance over there like a catholic schoolboy every so often still. They make a great burger, and I won a free soda from their questions, which are often pretty cool. Their fry proportions could kill a man which makes me so happy. Alright, it's a little expensive, but it's absolutely delicious. I love me a good-tasting burger, and you can do whatever you want with it, with a whole bunch of really fresh produce. Their staff is usually really nice, too, and always willing to tell me the answer to the question if I don't know and have already bought a soda (I have a thirst... for KNOWLEDGE). And I have a fetish for picnic tables inside. Don't judge me. I think it's adorable.

pretty good burgers. i was visiting friends in chico and they took me here on my last day in town. it was great. what's great is... i had the veggie burger! i had a lot of good veggie burgers in my day, but this one was so good. i wish i can go there often, but it's so far. i almost moved there at one point to go to school there, but i opted not to. i think if i did live in chico, burger hut would be my joint.

one of my absolute favorite spots every time im in chico. loooooove their burgers, nice and juicy. just perfect. seriously the burger joint to go to when you're craving a nice meaty juicy burger. okay, if you're not a meat person, they have veggie options as well. the wait for your food can be a bit long after you've order especially if it's crowded, but it's so worth the wait though. plus, their french fries portions are so generous... it's crazy! super good, it's definitely a chico favorite.. one my mine anyway. :)

Review from Chico Girl H.
Chico, CA
Pretty good meat in the burgers, but priced way too high for the actual quality and quantity of the food (other than the fries, which you get a HUGE pile of, but they are nothing special, just your usual fozen skinny fries). Used to go all of the time because they were reasonably priced, but that is for sure not the case anymore!! "fresh" fixins bar is usually a mess, and the fixins not so fresh. I think that all 3 burger huts in chico get such high ratings because they are locally owned and have been around forever, more of a nostalgia rating that a quality of food rating. Nobbys and Big Chico Burger serve food that is just as good. Nothing special about Burger Hut
