A great place for cheap burgers.
Similar to Whataburger's patty but that salt is oh-so-delicious and rather addicting. -

Burger House is a genuine step up from the giant chain places but does not have the history, charm or dive appeal of places like Keller's. The burgers are solidly good, well prices and are served fast. They are not quite as fast as the big boys but they are faster than some of the other places on this list. I really like the spicy rub they put on the fries but just bare in mind it does have a strong flavor so if that is not your thing you might want to order fries without it. They serve good cheap milk shakes. They are not the fancy shakes one would find at a soda fountain or even the real ice cream shakes served up at Braums but for soft serve shakes they are pretty good. I tend to go with the basic burger here and it is always been good enough to satisfy
If you are near a Burger House location want something fast stop in instead of another generica America place. The have this location on Mockingbird and one near Addison and perhaps some more. -

Fantastic! Food is always made hot and fresh! I especially enjoy the Zoe's chicken sandwich. The fries and onion rings are excellent with their own special spice blend. Meals are reasonably priced. I have not had one bad meal or experience there. Highly recommended.

The burgers here are decent but there seems to be something missing. Maybe it's that they don't taste "greasy" enough. If I'm going to risk immediate CPR over a burger, at least bump up the flavor with buns toasted on the grill. And maybe a little less seasoned salt on the fries which are darn good on their own. I'm just sayin'.

Okay, recently, if I'm Anywhere near Burger House, I have to Whip In and get an Addicting Chocolate Malt ( love those tiny little ice crystals & itsy bitsy 'lil chunks of ice cream)....& if my Hubby's w/ me he is gonna have the Cheery Shake. WOW!.......Whhhhyyyyy????? This has to STOP ! ! !
I Really like the Cheeseburgers @ Burger House....I'm just not crazy about the fries. Too Salty/Garlicy for me. The Burgers are fresh...... have that "cooked on the backyard grill" taste to 'em! YUUMM ! !
Damn, ....you can get Beer To Go in the Drive Thru....Whaaa Whaa Whhaaaat? -

Dallas, TX
Dallas has to be one of the most competitive markets for burger places in the world... Lots of delectable ground beef patties get consumed every day in the Metroplex -- which is reflected in the waistline of the average Metroplex resident... but what a yummy place to live!
Regardless, in a land of burgers, the Burger House does a great job at one thing: Being a consistent, generally economical burger establishment that walks the fine line between fast food joint (In and Out) and sit down restaurant (Snuffer's). The Burger House sits right in the middle -- a little more formal & tasty than a fast food place, but not quite as "formal" (if you can call it that) as a sit down place like Snuffer's or some locations of Jake's. It's hard to live in this middle ground, but the Burger House does it well.
The burgers are consistently very good (but not outstanding) with lots of different options -- and for the price and speed of service, they are a great value. Good juicy burgers with a wide variety of toppings... nothing special, no bleu cheese or portabello mushrooms to be found, but consistently solid burgers. This place doesn't try to be something it isn't -- and I like that. Some reviewers have complained about the lack of meat in the burger. I always get a double and it seems like just the right amount of meat for me.
Onion rings are awesome... I get them every time I go. Crisp outside and very moist inside. The fries, in my opinion are somewhat overrated although I guess that some people really love them. I've always found them a bit salty. Shakes are good and they serve beer too which, in my opinion, is the perfect complement to a good burger.
Bottom line: This is THE place to head towards when you don't have a lot of time, but you're in East Dallas you've got a hankering for a good burger -- good food, served quickly, at a unique place with a non-chain feel. -

Once is enough for me. From the always packed parking lot to the inviting homey feeling of the joint, you'd think the food would be great. Not so. The burger was disappointing...very small patty sandwiched between mediocre veggies. The "famous" fries with the seasoning...isn't that just some taco seasoning they put in there? And now, an hour after I've had the burger and fries, my mouth feels like it's been sucked out of all moisture. Too salty!
And the grilled cheese?! The grilled cheese that I paid 4 dollars for was a pair of hamburger buns, and one slice of melted american cheese!! Can you please refund my $3.95? I get that this is a burger joint, but if you're going to have grilled cheese on your menu, please make it properly...with sliced buttered sandwich bread at least! -

Have been going to this Burger House location in East Dallas since it opened. Food is just as good as the original location in University Park and what's more, this location has much better seating and a much cleaner, more spacious atmosphere. There is no better burger+fries in Dallas, and the chocolate shake is pretty divine as well. This will always be my favorite burger stop in DFW.
PS-Cheese fries are absolutely incredible as well! Load on the special salt! -

Not the best burger in the world, but pretty darned good. You leave thinking it was the best you've ever had, but you won't leave disappointed either. The best thing they have is probably the simpliest ... the fry salt. Kinda peppery and garlicy. Really, really good.

Review from deno f.
I'm always sorry after I eat there...no no no, not because of the food being bad--it's awesome. It's because that little voice in side of me that supposed to say "D! You've had enough! Put the chili cheese fries down. NO! Do not dip them in ranch put it inside your double bacon cheese burger with jalapenos and eat it. BAD D! BAD!" is obviously broken.
And yeah, I bought the giant thing of seasoning. I put it on everything. It's on my hamburger and fries--and the said chili cheese fries. I season my meat with it when I make chili. I used it on my salad, my chicken, my ice cream--obviouly that's an exaggeration. But I love that stuff.
For the folks who just want to know how the burger is, it's good. Thin patty. If you like the big thick burgers you will need to order a double. I like the thin meat patties. I like the little bit of crisp around the edges. No, they won't be cooked to order, but they will be seasoned with the magical Greek garlic stuff that's earned Burger House the Dallas Observer's award for best fries several years. Toppings are fresh. Chili is good--no beans. All burgers served with mustard. Bacon is fresh and crisp.
I like it way better than Jake's and Keller's. Yum.Listed in: Finding the BEST BURGER in…, Best Places in the Whole Wide…

This is a good burger. Maybe even a great burger. It certainly is NOT an amazing burger... and that's ok. Sometimes a laid-back place to grab some grub and a beer is better than the kind of food experience that demands appreciation. Less stressful.
As for me, I like to order mine "old fashion." That's with mustard, pickle, and onion. And I think they go a little heavy on seaoning the fries, even though the stuff is freakin tasty. -

Eat here if you want to die of hyperntension!!
The french fries comes completely loaded with seasoning which is ridiculously salty. The cheeseburger patty is so thin, all you taste is lettuce and cheese. And whoever prepared my fries spilled seasoning onto my burger, which made it salty!! ugh never again. -

What's the big hubbub about Burger House? Is it because you grew up with it, its grown into a small successful chain, and most everyone has ate there once?
Can you tell I was underwhelmed?
What you will find here is a large menu featuring, burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dog variations, malts, shakes, and PO-TA-TOES served in a fast food fashion at tad higher fast food prices.
My double cheese came in their standard dress of mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickles & onions. The ingredients seemed fresh, perhaps a too much lettuce though and the triple combo of mustard, onion, pickle was pungent. Unfortunately the meat itself didn't seem to be all that fresh, and that's what makes a burger isn't it? The side of French Fries were comparable to Mcdonalds but covered in Burger House's season salt (cumin & garlic salt &..?). And my "Real" cherry coke wasn't. Wheres the dang cherries? -
Review from Diana D.
It really is all about the season salt and they sell bottles of it, so I can make some Burger House magic at home. Want to put some scary unhealthy into your fry order...three words...chili cheese fries. Not a burger fan? Try the Zoe's chicken sandwich, but don't think you are choosing the healthy option here...grilled chicken, bacon and cheese. I order it without the mayo because BH is more liberal than I like.
What makes Burger House Lakewood so fun is that it is truly a Neighborhood institution. If you have school aged kids that go to Lakewood or Stonewall, you can't go there without running into someone you know. They support all of our school events with food, gift certificates and advertising dollars. Our kids scream "eat more Burger House" at the end of Happy Birthday...not sure why but it speaks to the place it holds in the neighborhood. I also like that they display science fair projects that have been done about their product.
I know there are some BH haters out there...my husband isn't the hugest fan. All I can say is "Have you tried the fries?" -

The hubster was craving a burger. When this happens, he gets a look in his eyes and can't be shaken from his trance-like state. Think Isaac Mendez in Heroes, except instead of seeing a future where the world ends, the hubster sees a future filled with meat, cheese, fries, and shakes; everybody still dies in the end, but due to clogged arteries, not Peter Petrelli exploding in New York City.
Using my Matt Parkman-like abilities, I searched the mind of Yelp and found Burger House. Everything rocked; the service was fast, the food was fresh and yummy (juicy burgers, tasty fries and onion rings, and thick shakes).
Burger House saved the day, but as we all know, burger cravings always return with a Sylar-like ability... so we'll definitely be back (after a 3 month mid-season hiatus, of course).Listed in: ROTD- Woot!

I feel like I'm eating a damn good burger here, but with fast food qualities. It tastes fresh and the drive-thru is uber convenient. And when you're hungover there's nothing better than a greasy patty with onion rings. (Which by the way, always makes me feel worse afterward so I'm not quite sure why I still do this)
Some peeps don't care for their fries; personally I love 'em. I know it's just seasoning salt on a thinly cut fried potato but something about them is unique.
The patties are thin so don't walk in expecting a gigantic meaty meal. The toppings are always fresh and they get your order right every time. Plus the milkshakes kick some serious booty. And after drinking one of them, I have much more booty back there to kick.
Fast, cheap and delicious. In a day and age of too many McDonald's and BK's, I prefer to spend my money at a local fast food like establishment. -
Review from Kevin N.
Okay, let's not be literal, folks: Burger House isn't really a house, but what there's no doubting is that this place is busy. I popped in here for for a post-holiday party hangover remedy before I hit the highway for my jaunt back to Austin, and this burger proved just what the doctor ordered. Sometimes a burger dripping with fresh fixins is just what you need to make the sun shine a little brighter that day.
The fries came shaken in salt and pepper, and as I hunched over my bun I realized that folks were shoehorned in at all corners here. Clearly there were fans at play, folks who were eager for an experience both familiar and filling: and in the end, that's at least what I got. Not complex, not revolutionary. But in a pinch? A damn fine chomp if I do say so.Listed in: Dallas

Burger House has a drive through. Given that, if you compare these burgers to fast food places, then Burger House wins by far! Compared to other burgers around the metroxplex, I think Burger House does an all right job. The patties are thin and flavored well. The burgers come with mustard, shredded iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and I want to say pickles too, but don't hold me to that.
They're famous for their fries, or so the sign says, and I can't figure out why. The fries looked great, but are covered in seasoning, which to me tastes like a pepper shaker exploded over the fries. The next time around I ordered the onion rings, and even though they had a little bit of the peppery season on them, they were much better than the fries.
Overall this is not the best burger in town, but is one of the better options in the immediate area.
PS - they offer beer to go from the drive through.Listed in: North of Mockingbird, Burgers!, Drive-Thrus

Oooh frack me this was good. I'm not really a hamburger girl. I know, I know... but a big, greasy, gut-bomb hunk-a ground sirloin usually gives me all sorts of sick and I'd really rather just not. We live about 1/2 a mile from this location and one sunny lunchtime after a diligent morning of yard work Etienne decided we deserved a burger. I gave in because I'm just too nice and went along.
Smelling like cut grass and looking well worn, we decided to do the drive through. We both ordered a cheeseburger. They come with mustard, not mayo, and the Burger House folks are really easy if you want to omit onions or something. We also got a one regular (the small) order of fries. We drove our little sack home and dug in. Yum.
The patties are of the skinny, non greasy variety. It comes well done (I doubt you could ask for any other way) and is nice and salty. Etienne thought his burger was too salty the first time we went but I took a big bite and confirmed that no, it wasn't. Juuuust right. It also wasn't too cheesy... and next time I might consider just not getting it because it really didn't add a lot to the burger and I'd rather save the fat and calories. I don't think the buns were buttered, which makes them eek down just a hair on the taste side but evens out on the side of being more healthy.
The regular order of fries were more than enough for the two of us. They're also sprinkled with the special burger house seasoned salt and are just crispy enough.
Whole price of lunch for the two of us? Around $10. I just regret knowing how great it is and the cravings that will surely follow. -
Review from Megan M.
Ok, I might have been a bit harsh the first time around. Especially since my original review was my very first Yelp review and I didn't really have my star rating quite down yet.
The boys & I made a Saturday night date out of Burger House and Marble Slab and I have to say I really enjoyed Burger House this time. 'Course, that might have been from the seasoned salt that was sprinkled on my burger - which I highly recommend! Or the $3 I saved on our meals? Or perhaps it was my anticipation of Marble Slab for dessert? It was probably the fact that both my boys were so happy with their meals.
Whatever the reasoning, Burger House is a solid 3.5 stars that I'll happily bump up to 4 stars. Ya know. Because of the fake 1/2 star rating rules and all.Listed in: $10 Lunch on the Go, Cheeseburger, cheeseburger,…

Dallas, TX
Here's my question, why in the hell would anyone go to a major chain fast-food joint when there are places like Burger House around?
I will only go to a burger joint as long as they are fried on a grill; you know its great place because all the beer truck drivers eat here. My mother used to always say "If a guy has a job were he has to wear a shirt with a beer logo on it then it's a good place to eat." No she didn't, but they make a great burger, I do like the fries, but you have to eat them while their hot, they kind of turn into balsawood when they get cold and the shakes rock!
The sign out front says "Sonny Sez Eat Here, It's Good" and you know what? He's right. It is. I met Sonny once when I went in for dinner, I ordered a large soft drink and he says to me. "Get a small, refills are free." I'll never forget those words. Sonny's a guy I want to give my money to. Plus I like a place that sponsors community sports teams and encourage people to partake in the deadly sin of Gluttony, there's a guy running around Dallas that has crammed a 25 patty with 25 slices of cheese hamburger down his gullet, or maybe there's not a guy who has crammed a 25 patty with 25 slices of cheese hamburger down his gullet, has anyone talked to this guy lately?
Burger House is a great place, if you don't believe me they actually have a charted in-depth scientific research display in the window, that looks as if it was done my a forth grader, but you know what? It's spot on. -

I agree with a previous review, it's all about the seasoned salt. Great gobs of seasoned salt on the fries, on the onion rings, on the burgers, on the chicken sandwich. The only thing we ordered that didn't have a great excess of seasoned salt was the chocolate malt and I wouldn't have been surprised if it had been present.
If your taste buds have been dulled by eating salt with a spoon you will probably enjoy. There's nothing wrong with the food itself it they didn't kill it by grossly over seasoning everything with an uninteresting salt. In the end everything tastes like seasoned salt. They might as well offer celery with seasoned salt. It would taste the same but would be healthy. -

The salt is great, the malted was great, the fries were just alright, the sandwiches (burgers and otherwise) are just okay.
Maybe I have to be from here to appreciate it, it's good, but nothing special. -
Review from Paul H.
Local fast-food style burger joint; sign says in business since 1951. Looks like a converted site that used to be a major fast-food chain.
Environment, price and quality are comparable to a Whataburger. Had the cheeseburger and fries (don't really understand the hoopla about the "seasoned salt" bit). Better burgers than national drive-thru brands but nothing to really shout about. -

Cannot find a better burger for the price, well cooked, good quality meet, excellent special seasoning, and amazing shakes and malts. Everything cooked fresh and to order.
You must take home a bit of their special seasoning for your own burgers at home!
Yes it's kind of a dive (cement floors, etc), but it's location near the university and its laid back burger/frys theme make it work very well.
Did I mention you get all this for fast food prices? -
Review from Ashleigh A.

I don't get the hype. And I'm bummed about it. I was sooo hoping to find my new burger place...plus HOW can you not love a place that sells beer to go?! Ugh.
So we didn't go inside, we just went through the drive through and I got a cheeseburger and a small fry. Reasonably priced=yay! and the bag was actually heavy so I assumed the burger was big and meaty and delicious. Hmmm
So the 'secret spice' they use on the fries and burgers ain't such a secret. It's cumin. And a crapton of it. For those of you who don't know, cumin smells like dirty gym socks. And so did my car. And my fries. And my burger. The bf was totally grossed out, but thankfully I was the only one who was eating, and I like cumin. In moderation.
So we get home and start munching on the fries, which were good, but half of them were kinda soggy by the time we got home. I understand that's how fried food gets if you don't eat it immediately, but I really didn't think there'd be such a difference in my 90-second drive home. Some of them were still good and crispy though.
The burger...well, it's a sonic burger with cumin and a better, toasted bun. Seriously. It tastes EXACTLY like a Sonic burger...down to the lettuce and WAY too much mustard. The cumin flavor was nice for awhile, but then overpowered the patty (maybe there was just a clump of it somewhere when they cooked it?). Anyway, it just wasn't all that great. And I wish it was. Boo. -

My wife and I had some time to waste before we headed to a conference and found this place just driving around the area; It totally rocked. We were on a break from heavy meals and thought we'd just let it all fall down for the afternoon. What-a-treat! The chili-fries rocked, the burgers rocked, and the shakes take a bit to make, but they are well worth the wait.
The walls are decorated with pictures of people who ate this 2-ton hamburgers, well they looked that big, as well as other popular folks that stopped by for a bite. No, I didn't see any Elvis pics, and he would have liked this place for sure.
30 minutes later we walked out, two very satisifed consumers! Check this place out, it's not the only in the great Dallas area. -

Not much to add except that if you buy a shirt here, get a larger size! My medium turned into a baby-t with the first wash.
Nothing real "special" about this place witch is such a great change from people trying to go over the top with the menu or ingredients. They make a kick-ass burger. They got it right and didnt change it. They're consistent and predictable and that rules!Fries are really good. and I crave their cherry-syruped coke.
So, I guess I did have a little to say!
Please don't skip the bacon on your burger!!! Seriously. -
Review from Mary C.
Love the drive through. I have always loved burger house and the one on Hillcrest is a Dallas treasure but it is awful nice if you are ever in this area to be able to go through a drive through and get their amazing burger and fries. The seasoned salt that they put on the fries is key.
Also, if you haven't eaten enough calories for the day and have a sweet tooth, their choclate shake is awful good. -

It had been way too long since my last visit to burger house. Settled with the chicken sandwich (not Zoe's, no bacon please) , fries and a bud light. As expected execution, quick and good stuff. Always have enjoyed the seasoning on the fries, good times!
Would like a more interesting beer selection; I usually never drink bud light, another Shiner variant would be nice. -

Dallas, TX
A pretty good burger, though there are several better around. Giant thin patty with great flavor, though the bun and fixings are floppy and wet usually. The fries are good as well; as Dena mentioned, they have some special seasoning on them.
The location on Mockingbird was overrun by Lake Highlands junior high kids last time I ate in. It was fascinating and gratifying to watch adolescents hoover down all those calories and fat without a thought. -
Review from Travis H.
Dallas, TX
Either I was way to sober or they need to lighten the salt. The 'famous' seasoned fries would have been really great if the salt hadn't overpowered any seasoning flavor.
The burger was mediocre at best.
I hear this place works wonder on a hangover and I don't doubt it, but as an average drive-thru burger, there are much better options. -
Review from Gloria R.
Garland, TX
I love Burger House and I love this location. I can't add much more than what everyone else has said except the burgers are best when you eat them at the restaurant and do not take them to go. They can get cold, soggy and not as fresh. If you dont like salt you wont like Burger House. The fries are kinda salty.. but thats what makes them so good! The burgers are thin but thats also what i like about Burger House.
The one bad (but its really a good thing) is it usually crowded on Saturday afternoons with LOTS of families. I don't have kids, so i am not so used to having so many children running around screaming, strollers, just lots of people. I get claustrophobic. But the burgers and fries are so good i can zone out on the food. :) -
Review from Billy M.

It's probably flirting with sacrilege to disparage the good, righteous and holy name of Burger House. And, so, I won't. The burgers are consistently great: juicy, flavorful and points awarded for presentation in the little red baskets.
It's a great neighborhood hang-out, too, with tons of local sports memorabilia and photos on the walls. There's almost a guarantee of a little league or cub scout party in the back on any given evening. Great family place.
Now, about the seasoned fries... The place is famous for them, though at the risk of revoking my Dallas citizenship... I can't for the life of me figure out why. Pluses: they're always hot and crisp. Minuses: Prepare for sodium overload. The seasoning is too much, IMHO, but suit yourself. If you don't like your fries on the salty end, be sure to ask for them without seasoning.
My only nit to pick: Yes, the place is a Dallas institution. Yes, the burgers are great. Yes, the fries are legendary. I just wish the staff was a little friendlier! Questions and deviations from the menu seem to be treated with an air of annoyance. Too bad for a place that does so much right. -

OMG. YES. Jack's Burger Haus is one of the main reasons I liked going to Dallas to visit my parents during the five years they lived there. In fact, it's probably the only thing I miss about visiting there.
The burgers here are admittedly much more like fast food than you might expect, but they're hardly flavorless like the chains. Very highly recommended. -

I'm surprised by some of the other reviews because I can't say I'm a huge fan of this place. I really WANT to like it, especially since it is so convenient to home. The first time I went, I ordered a grilled cheese (I like to think I'm a grilled cheese connoisseur) and onion rings. Typically, places like this make a mean grilled cheese, but sadly, not here.
Tonight I went through the drive thru and ordered a cheeseburger and fries. Still not thrilled. My husband has tried the burger, corndogs, and hotdogs on different occasions and his opinion was the same.
Location is all they have going for them in my opinion. Sorry, Burger House. -

Burger house is probably the best burger joint in town that has a drive thru! If youre in a hurry take advantage of it but dont expect to be able to enjoy your burger when you get home. If youre like me you will devour it while driving ....one hand on the steering wheel the other holding your deliciously juicy cheeseburger while grease drips down your arm! The fries are great too and the seasoning they use rocks!
