Camarillo, CA
I am a Burger Barn regular. Rick has been doing it the same at BB since i was a little kid and I appreciate that. The breakfast burritos are outstanding (get them with gravy) and their lunch specials are terrific. I love the onion rings as well. Patty melt is crisp and cheesy, ranch dressing is delicious and the bacon is thick and crispy.
I usually call my order in before I go so I am in and out in a minute. -

A little grungy (not sure how the word quaint gets thrown around, but c'est la vie) (and yes, I sound pretentious right now, I really shouldn't be writing reviews this tired).
The food is standard fast-food fare - the meat is murdered on the grill, flavors are nothing to write home about, fries are decent. Meh. I could've gotten the same at a fast-food chain for a little cheaper. -

Great food and staff! Prices are fair with plenty to eat for your money! I only wish the menus told you what was on the different burgers. However the staff is happy to answer that question for you.

This quaint little place is located in a small strip mall across from Camarillo HS. When I walked into this place, I felt I was at a senior citizens meeting with about 20 of them trying to get an early-bird special.
I was intrigued that the "Camarillo Burger" was what I usually ordered at other burger joints; a bacon-avocado cheeseburger. Being a little more hungry, I decided to make it a double-patty with the combo of fries and a drink.
Well....I really wanted to sing (write) high praises about the burger but I couldn't. For some reason, the burger tasted stale and dried out. I wondered how it could be since I saw the cook put fresh patties on the char-broiler as he made my burger. All the ingredients for a great burger were there; crisp bacon, fresh avocado, and two different cheeses. But as I took my first bite, the meat patties didn't feel all that well on my tongue. The fries were luke warm and they didn't serve very much. The best part of the meal was the ranch dressing dip for the fries.
Sorry to say, but if I'm gonna pay above $9 for a burger combo it's gotta either fill me up with gluttony or give me flavors that make me want to look back in kitchen and see what your putting on them. I like the ambiance of the place but the execution for a burger did not meet my expectation. -

I ordered a salad and found a hair in it. They made me a new one, but halfway through that salad, I found another hair! I was too embarrassed for the restaurant to send that second salad back. Yuck! Otherwise, the salad was fine.

Pros: It's a locals' joint.
Cons: Tried the chili cheese fries and the chili is nasty.
Probably will have to give the place another try but next time I'll order the burger and see if it's worth it. -

A decent burger joint...
The burgers are pretty good and aren't too big to the point where your overwhelmed.
The crowd hits big at lunch so plan to come 30 minutes before noon. -

Thank goodness for GPS: while heading up to Santa Barbara on the 101, the wife mentioned she had a hankering for a burger. 30 seconds later, my screen set to Show POI Icons, my pointer clicked on the icon for Burger Barn. "Four stars with 22 reviews," said the wife. I quickly crossed over four lanes of freeway to the off-ramp (sorry beeping car drivers!) and fifteen minutes later I was devouring an Ortega Swiss burger. So glad we got the onion rings, because they were outstanding.
The inside of Burger Barn is befitting its name and nothing much to look at, but the service is very friendly. Food is delivered quickly, plenty of parking in the strip mall, no muss, no fuss. I will probably stop off again the next time we're heading northbound. -

I've never been so disappointed in this place. Maybe if the cook stopped staring and did his job, I would have had a BLT on a croissant, not a sloppy mess in a sack.

We recently discovered Burger Barn tucked into a corner of an unassuming strip mall. The place is very casual and has a small town feel. Customers and staff all seem very familiar with each other and everyone is friendly.
I have to say, the burgers are fantastic. My favorite so far is the blue cheese burger. I've had it twice so far. Both times, the burger was cooked perfectly. The blue cheese was piled on generously and the lettuce and tomato slice were absolutely fresh.
We definitely recommend Burger Barn. It's the best choice in the area. -

I'm always on the lookout for one-of-a-kind, hole-in-the-wall places to try out. So, I was pretty excited to try Burger Barn. Tucked inside a tiny strip mall, Burger Barn seemed like a place that could have a knockout burger. It didn't.
The burger, fries and a drink were a good value at ~$6, but uninspiring. The burger patty tasted like the bulk frozen patties you buy from Costco for a group BBQ. The fries were pedestrian.
The Burger Barn menu did have a good looking breakfast menu. Next time I need a breakfast burrito, I'll check them out.
Bottom Line: A place called Burger Barn should have better than the 5th best burger in Camarillo.
15 October 2010 Update:
I stopped by here to try the breakfast burrito. I tried it with bacon. The bacon was good. The potatoes-good. The eggs and salsa-good. The cheese-American. Why would you ruin a perfectly good anything by adding American cheese?
I'm bumping the Barn up a star because the breakfast burrito and drink came to $5.03. And because while I sat eating my burrito, the woman behind the counter greeted at least 5 people by name and asked if they wanted their usual order. It does seem like a community joint, if not a very good one. -
Review from Wilmar D.
Sad. This place is loved by many in Camarillo, but I simply can't recommend this place.
The burgers, in their defense, don't taste bad. There's a level of homey-ness in the taste of their burger meat that can at least be acknowledged. Their ingredients appear fresh. The cheese they use doesn't offend. Their hickory sauce, however, tastes like Kraft barbecue sauce.
In either way, I would give this place three stars on behalf of just their burgers. They could improve this by increasing the size of their burger patties, or by dumbing down the vegetable topping volume. The ratio didn't seem quite right. Also switch out that barbecue sauce.
Now the thing that still boggles my mind is how many people have praised the Barn for their "heaven" breakfast burrito. Are you serious? I will say that the price is pretty attractive, and when you get the burrito it's of a good size considering the price you pay, but honestly, McDonald's serves better breakfast burritos.
Mine came with scrambled eggs (or egg, since it didn't seem like much), potato, bacon, cheese, and salsa. It was overly potatoey, the bacon didn't happen until halfway through the piece, and the salsa was so incorrect that I wanted to slap the Barn in the face for disgracing my taste buds.
One star for breakfast, and if I could, negative one star.
Would I come back here? Not on my own will, and definitely no for breakfast.Listed in: Camarillo

I love their Terriaki Burger and the breakfast burrito! Whenever I'm up early enough and going to be in the Mission Oaks area, I like to treat myself to a burrito. The price can't be beat for breakfast either. I think it's a little under $4. My friends and I have loved going here since we were in high school.
There is a nice selection of arcade type games for the kids too and they often support local youth sport teams. -

Absolutely perfect. I rarely give 5 stars to anything, and I would give it 10 stars if I could. I had my "last meal" in Camarillo here before I moved to San Francisco.
The breakfast burrito is heaven. The prices are unbeatable (3 bucks for a HUGE burrito! Awesome!) I think that basically Burger Barn rocks my world. Their cheese burgers (and hamburgers) are tasty, their onion rings are yummy, french fries crispy and good. I obviously haven't had everything on the menu, but if you eat any of the 5 things I have listed and add the teriyaki burger that my friend loves, you have a great breakfast or lunch!
Burger Barn, thank you for being so amazing, thank you for getting me though many a hung over of mornings and not caring that I am in the same clothes from the night before, thank you for being you. -

I eat at Burger Barn at least once a month. This it one of the best burger places I have ever been to. The Barn Burger is well cooked and dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion. I have sampled most of the lunch menu. The only things not up to par and the reason for 4 stars not 5 are the taco salad and chiliburger the chili had a burnt taste. One thing to try is the tri tip sandwich served with either hickory or teriyaki sauce. The tuna melt is also very good.
On weekday nights they have dinner specials, I have tried the Fish and Chips with coleslaw and the portions are large and the fish well cooked. Burger Barn is also kid friendly with a Kids Meal for under with fries and Jr. shake. For the non meat eaters they have a Garden Burger with your choice of sour dough bread, roll or bun.
This restaurant is a must stop if you are traveling thru Camarillo and is just two blocks from the freeway. Look for the Chevy Blazer with the sign on top. Beer on tap. -

They have decent breakfast, a good selection of burgers and sandwiches for lunch, and daily specials for dinner. Their prices are good and the staff is very friendly. If you're looking for a good non-chain burger place this is a good place to go.

I tried them for breakfast before going to work. I enjoyed those 4,500 calories more than anything in a long while. By the time I got to work I was sweating oil, but it was soooooooo worth it.
Haven't tried their burgers yet, I'm still working off that breakfast sandwich. I'll be back. -

Awesome burgers! Just what we were wanting. A little hidden but no bigger. My Gf says..." one word summary. Yummy!" Onion rings could've been a little less done. I wish I lived closer to here.

Not the best burger I've ever had, but good enough to return and try something else, perhaps a chili cheese dog next time. My son and I went, he had a Hickory Burger & fries and liked it, I had an Ortega Swiss Burger and liked it. Neither of us were over-the-top "omg this is the best." So with that, I'll stop by again and try something else, but I'm not running back.

Good ol' Burger Barn. I always say there is a reason why a place lasts as long as it does. The Burger Barn has been in Camarillo as long as I can remember. A favorite for locals in Cam and also for students at ACHS which is nearby. They are tucked away on a corner. The decor could use some updating, but what's important is the food. There are a good amount of booths and tables. You order at the counter. My husband loves a good ol' burger and he loves this place. We love the barn burger. Great place for burgers and they have a good variety of different burgers. The fries are sometimes a tad overdone and I wasn't a fan of the chili fries-stick to just fries. They also serve other sandwiches, dishes, and they also serve breakfast. Great prices.

MMMM I used to ditch high school (ACHS) just to come here at lunch time! Amazing burgers! I went back there and it was just as good as I remembered...this is just an offbeat burger joint...totally worth seeing before or after you see a movie at the Roxy...or just because ;)

Review from Todd O.
I can't understand what the deal is with this place and its reviews. There is nothing that stands out about this place in anyway. Its not that cheap which could be the only thing that could be a standout. The burger is PLAIN, the cheese is processed, the veggies are tasteless no defining sauce. I do agree they cook to order but it still needs to taste good. I'd probably take more salt so I can say it has some flavor. The fries aren't bad, they have the crisp outside and soft inside, but again nothing great, no defining seasoning or amazing potatoes. I think the place smells amazingly good but it just doesn't stand on its own. I'd even consider calling the county to send out their weights and measures person because them calling that burger a 1/4lb is a sin. Its like 1/5 with the bun.
I had such high hopes for this place cuz it was local mom and pops place, the down and dirty name, the smell while driving home AND the good reviews on Yelp! I can't go back for a bottled coke, I'm afraid that will be no taste also.
Good things: The counter people are friendly, the place supports the community, smells good from outside, gets good reviews. -

My boyfriend and I are new residents of Camarillo, and live right around the corner from Burger Barn. So when moving in made us hungry, we headed up the street. My bacon burger, affectionately called 'a patty with grease' by the line cook was delicious. The bun was doughy and the bacon was crispy. The onion rings were think and very good. My boyfriend said his burger was great as well. The only think lacking is the ambiance. Old decor makes it seem a little seedy, but the food makes up for it. We went there for breakfast as well and the food once again was great. My biscuits and gravy were great - they managed to get the gravy-to-biscuit proportion just right! We will definitely be back - probably too much!

I come in here just about every week simply because they have the best burgers in town. Everyone in Camarillo has heard of these guys, it's just one of those places you have to try at least once. I always get a double cheeseburger with extra pickles and some fries. The staff is friendly and the even the cooks greet you if come in there enough. If I ever move, Burger Barn will be the thing I miss most about Camarillo.

I really enjoyed this place. I got the chicken friend steak sandwich. Not only did they cook my sandwich to order, they fried me up some brand new piping hot fries. All this happened in under ten minutes. That's all the time it took to go from asking for the sandwich to being in burger heaven. The price was excellent as well. For the price of going to a fast food joint, I was able to get a home-cooked chicken fried steak sandwich with a basket full of delicious fresh fries and a root beer. The shopkeep also was a very nice person, and livened it up with some excellent conversation. I would definitely go back to this place!

Really good burgers! Had the bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. Can't wait to try the other variety of stuff they had on the menu. Homey atmosphere, kinda like the Habit but more home town feel and was way less crowded than the Habit too.

Their breakfast burritors are simply deliscious. THey have chorizo, potatoes, and other yummy things. Try it with the salsa and try to get extra. Everytime I head on a road trip early I ask for Buger Barn please!

Normally we order burgers from Burger Barn and they are terrific. Last night, however, we ordered the pastrami sandwich. What a disappointing meal! The entire sandwich had 3 skimpy little pieces of pastrami, a little lettuce, and slice of cheese. It was served on toasted sourdough bread. The bread was the best part of the whole meal. The few pieces of pastrami in the sandwich were fatty and rubbery. I would absolutely recommend everyone to STAY AWAY from this sandwich and just stick to the burgers!

Burger Barn has dinner specials every night of the week
and the WED special is always the chicken dinner.
You get a 1/2 chicken potato and salad. It's really good.
I always get it to go for my family, then hide the containers
and pull it off on my plates so it looks like I cooked it! tee hee..
It's a good one there! Call in your order early in the day. They
only make a certain amount each Wednesday and they sell out. -

I've eaten here twice hoping the second time around would be better. Unfortunately it wasn't; the burgers are OK - nothing to brag about. I'd rather get a burger at Fat Burger or the Habit instead. One of my favorite burgers of all time is still the Kilauea at Islands. I won't be coming back.
