Such a fun, friendly and sweet place -- definitely worth the stop. They served all 10 of us with great grace and speed. Burgers were great, and the kids in our group who had shakes loved them.

Shame on anyone who gets off 5 to go to a fast food burger joint within 75 miles of Burger Barn. Tasty burgers, hot and thick fries and friendly service in a quaint but sincere environment (i.e., pictures of patrons and men in the service on the walls).
And the local kids and families add to the experience if you are there at lunch or dinner time. -

OK.....SO dont get what people are talking about here. This place is charming YES, super sweet employees YES but thats IT.
They make a huge costco run and then serve up the food. Frozen burger pattys, costco buns, costco frozen fries, costco frozen onion rings....etc etc. NOTHING was GREAT. My son loved his fish and chips, that was it. As for the soft serve...something I love...this is more like ice milk, not creamy at all...PASS. For 2 adults and 2 kids who dropped $42 bucks at this joint...we say...go somewhere else!
2 Stars only for the sweet lady running the place. -

The Burger Barn is located in a classic roadside diner building in the historic downtown district of Dunsmuir on old highway 99. It's an easy on and off from Hwy-5 and a nice change from the fast chain food restaurants that dot the highway. This little restaurant was busy on a Wednesday and I can understand why. I ordered the special of the day, a tasty blue cheese bacon burger, and N had fish and chips with onion rings. Both our meals were quite good

What is there not to love about Burger Barn? Dunsmuir, CA is a very small community (2000 population) and most of their restaurants are not open every day of the week. After fly fishing all day on a Tuesday and getting back to town about 5pm or so, there were few to no choices unless I wanted to buy groceries and fix my own meal at my rental cabin. Err... no thanks. I was bone tired.
I visited Burger Barn for the first time and was totally pleased. They have a parking lot to the rear of their store so these aged, tired bones did not have to walk any distance. Inside the shop, everything was neat, clean and decorated in a fun, relaxed way.
They have everything from burgers to humongous burgers, to sandwiches, soft serve ice cream, and hot dogs. Also included are shakes (the blackberry shake called to me), fries and sodas.
I was starving so I settled on a smaller cheeseburger, an order of fries (the fries were awesome and I make mine from scratch) and a root beer float. Yumm... The order was promptly made and served to me with plenty of napkins.
It goes without saying that this 68 year old woman, completely finished her meal and then just sat there with a great big smile on her face. The meal was good but it was more than that. Sandy is a jewel. She has a warm smile and a caring personality that makes any meal taste special and your visit enjoyable. Whether she was serving a local youngster an ice cream or serving a stranger a burger meal, you somehow felt you were special.
Will return to Dunsmuir in a month or so to again fly fish and will again visit Burger Barn. As for trying the Barn Buster special... a regular cheese burger, fries and root beer float was plenty. I love challenges but 2 one half pound burgers, a giant order of fries and two drinks is a tad more than I can handle.
Dunsmuir is right off Highway 5 and a bit north of Redding (depending on how you drive). Give it a try. As for payment, they do not take checks, credit or debit cards but have an ATM machine inside with a $1.50 charge for a withdrawal. -

Stopped by here on my road trip and really liked it. The hamburger I got was really good and the people working there are very nice. Definitely suggest stopping by here.

While I have worked an occasional shift at the Burger Barn, and I woudnt comment on a place that I work, the Burger Barn is a Dunsmuir staple.
Wether you are stopping in for a Flavor Burst Cone with Bannana and Chocolate, a Barn buster (Three beef patties on a homemade roll with all the fixings) you are going to be satisfied!
To put it simply; Great food, Great Atmosphere, and the recent addition of a new Soft Serve Flavor Burst Soft Serve machine and a Beer and Wine License They are doing everything right. Whats better after a hike to Mossebrea Falls than a Barn Stormer (a double burger with pepper jack cheese, barbecue sauce, an onion ring, lettuce, tomato and onion) and a Beer! -

Burger Barn lives up to its name, and then some! The burgers are delicious and a good deal, especially the BARN BUSTER! (You can easily share between 2 people.) Burger Barn also has shakes, floats, etc, basically everything you would expect at a burger joint. This place is family owned and the staff is very friendly and accomodating.
Lots of parking. -

Between my mom living in Dunsmuir and me might as well being an honorary resident, I've gone to Burger Barn enough that it might be my second kitchen.
The ladies here are all very nice! Though a bit pricey (it IS an outlying area as far as food distribution standards go) I gladly pay the price for a delicious veggie burger with whatever fixins I like. The mushroom burger is delicious and the portions are always either too much or at least enough to feed you if you're completely ravenous.
Their burgers definitely don't disappoint, but their shakes and ice creams are good too! I take my daughter here to get a soft serve cone and man, it's more than a three year old can handle, but well worth it because they LOVE to see her try to tackle the whole thing.
With that said, Sandy is awesome. She's been so nice to my mom and my daughter since they moved to Dunsmuir. My kidlet stays with my mom while I'm in school and it's nice to know there are people out there that still think a little kid is a treat and not satan-on-wheels.
The atmosphere is awesome too. The place is decorated in happy colors that I love to look at. Seating can be sparse but people are usually in it for the to-go order anyway.
Like I said, great service, good portions, though a bit pricey. In Dunsmuir I'd go no other place for a great burger with wonderful atmosphere.Listed in: My trail to Los Angeles

This was a fun little burger joint in the middle of nowhere. Friendly people all on first name basis. Good selection of burgers that tasted homemade and steak fries that were pretty perfect. I like that they use Thousand Island dressing on their burgers. Free refills on drinks was a bonus we didn't see coming.

This place is great! I stopped by on the way to Portland, Oregon, from Santa Cruz, California, and this was an awesome place to stop for lunch! The Barn Buster was huge and an amazing value, and the onion rings were hot, fresh, and delicious! Cute little location and the the family owned atmosphere is quite apparent. Very friendly! Will definitely go back when I make the trek north to the Pacific NorthWest or head to the Shasta area for vacation.

Driving north to Oregon, my family randomly stopped to eat at Burger Barn. I just couldn't face the fast food option. We expected a long wait, but the food was ready pretty fast, and it all tasted delicious. We were all so pleased with it that we made a point of postponing lunch on the way back four days later to eat at Burger Barn again. I would say, however, that the bathrooms could use some love. They are about on par with your average gas station toilet.

I was craving a good corn dog..I thought that this place would be a perfect spot to get an old fashion great corn dog..but I was wrong..instead I got a barely warm foster farm corn dog with crappy cold fries. This place wasn't anything special. Will not go back again..my dad got a cheeseburger and a malt and said that they were, ok and thought dairy queen was better..ouch. Service wasn't the best either not very friendly. Just another place with a bunch of crap on the walls..but looks promising.---also they were cash only and an ATM is inside.

Two words BANANA MILKSHAKE! If there was anything that exemplefied americana this joint is it! Burgers, fries, milkshakes and onion rings. Not to mentions a large collection of military men decorating the walls. The staff was friendly, the place was immaculate and the food was chock full of cholesterol. What is more american than that. And to think I almost passed this place up for the Hot Dog Depot down the street.

very good food and the owner is almost always on premises, very friendly ... and the food is top quality ... one of the best grilled fresh hamburgers ever.
