YES. I visited this place while with my cousins while they lived in Utah, and it was literally one of the best things I have ever eaten. We sat on the curb and ate it after returning from Antelope Island State Park, and it more than satisfied my hunger. It was so amazing. The burger was just insanely fabulous. My dad even took pictures of his. You know good when my dad takes pictures of the food. I wish I had this place at home!!!

My first trip to the Burger Bar.  I ordered the Big Ben Bacon Cheeseburger, Fries, and a Lemonade.

The patty was OK.  Not much flavor on it's own.  I like my burger patties to be fairly thin, but this one was almost too thin.  But it was almost six inches in diameter.  Hardly even noticed the cheese.  2.5 starts.

The bun was great.  Just soft enough that it becomes part of the whole gestalt of the burger, not a separate entity.  That's the way I them.  4.5 stars.

The bacon was unique.  It was cut pancetta-style, but had the flavor of regular smoked bacon.  They were barely acceptable in thickness, but the three rounds were enough to cover the entire patty.  4 stars.

The burgers are topped only with the house fry sauce, pickles, and some shredded lettuce.  You have to ask for ketchup, mustard, tomato and onion.  You also have to ask for extra napkins.  They don't give out enough with your order.  1.5 stars.

The fries were very good. They had a nice texture, and the serving was plentiful.  You can make a special request for fresh cut fries, but I prefer the standard frozen fries.  They crisp up better.  The fries needed salt, and I had to ask for it.  3.5 stars.

The fry sauce was really good, but the one container they give you only gets you through half the order.  You have to pay for extra, which is a pet peeve of mine.  2 stars.

They serve Minute Maid Lemonade.   3 stars.

The Burger Bar is an institution and has a long and illustrious history.  It's a true burger 'stand' in that there are no tables, and you have to eat your burger standing up.  Their are a few concrete benches, or you can eat in your car.   Still, I do like the old school feel of the place.  3 stars.

    2.5 + 4.5 + 4 + 1.5 + 3.5 + 2 + 3 + 3 = 24 \ 8 = 3 stars

My review is based solely on the milkshakes. We ordered 3 milkshakes: vanilla with extra malt (which was an extra charge), cookies and cream, and strawberry. The vanilla milkshake that we were charged extra for had no hint of any malt taste whatsoever. The fact that we paid extra for it and they inadvertently left it out really irked me. The other 2 milkshakes tasted great but were so thick they were more like a soft serve version of ice cram than shakes. In their defense the restaurant was very busy and had many patrons waiting for food orders. I would like to go back on my next visit and try the burgers because I hear they are exceptional.

Ran into the Burger Bar going to the Hill Aerospace Hill Museum..We got Big Ben with Cheese and it was delicious. Also ordered onion rings and thought they were better than the fries with the fry sauce. Wish I could've order a shake/malt but was too full. Great place to eat while in northern Utah.

I have never visited any place featured on Diners, Drive-in & Dives, so while on a road trip to Yellowstone, I forced my husband to stop here because I was so excited to find a place that Guy recommended and had better than okay reviews on Yelp.  We ended up camping in Ogden, so this was only a quick skip from there and it all worked out.

Husband got the Big Ben, I had the Buffalo Burger and the kids had kid's meal cheeseburgers.  I even threw in an order for the onion rings because I kept reading on here about how great they were.

I guess I missed the point about how great this place was supposed to be.  We arrived at 7:30 pm and the wait time was almost 30 minutes to get our food.  Husband raved about the Big Ben, he was especially fond of the bun and portion sizes, but I've had way better Buffalo Burgers. Also, we got SO many fries that we could barely put a dent in them.  Not necessarily a bad thing, but when you order onion rings on top of all of that, well, it's just a waste.  Not to mention, those onion rings were flat out disgusting...dripping with oil yet so crispy that it was dry.  The batter kept falling off every ring and I ended up eating soggy onions. So disappointed.  Kids hated the fry sauce, despite being so excited to try it...even I didn't like it too much and I really love new stuff to dip my fries in.  I guess the Californian-Ranch-Lover in me can't accept fry sauce for what it is.

All in all, 25% of us loved the place, 75% of us could do without.  Also, make sure you're nowhere near the speaker when someone is on it calling out orders...so loud when I was walking by it to order that my ears started ringing.  Also, parking lot was very full, ended up parking in the empty lot across the street.  So sad that this was my first place to visit off of DD&D....made me hate Guy for it.

What is it about Buffalo burgers, bacon, cheese and fries that makes you think its a good idea you cancelled your cholesterol test tomorrow and not even care?

Wait, hold on.  The server never refilled my water.  The concrete benches were chilly on the derriere.  They didn't have even 3.2 beer.  They really have been around since your mom and dad came here with your grandparents.  Oh, sorry, this is a burger stand that probably in the 60's had girls on roller skates serving at your car window.  Bringing back the roller servers is the only thing you could improve here today.  This place is a throwback to simpler times.  How did you find Roy, Utah back then without a smart phone?

Heard from a friend who went with that the Elk burger was good.  The buffalo burger was delish.  The kids weren't thrilled with the special sauce on their burgers but they wolfed that thing down, and the fries and the chocolate shake all good.  The vanilla shake tasted like it had sprite in it--we'll pass next time.

All in all, a fun ride north from SLC back in time to the Burger Bar is a great thing to do on a warm summer evening.  A definitely positive destination for a date.

I don't know how I missed yelping this place, burger bar was the only dining out we did when I was a kid growing up in the early 70's, my parents would load us all in the station wagon and would get everyone the baby ben, fries and water. Luckily being a big kid I soon graduated to the big ben and big sea ben.(My parents were what other Utahns would call thrifty and non Utahns would call cheap)

After a long separation I've been able to eat here again every few months and it really hasn't changed. Quality wise it's probably only 3 stars after all it is just a greasy hamburger place but the cool factor and the fact that its survived this long is worth another star. They did have a location in Layton and one on the northwest side of St George for awhile but sadly neither of those made it. Compared to Icebergs this place is much better.

Almost forgot to mention the shakes. The shakes are always 5 star here.

I saw this place on Diners, Drive ins and Dives and immediately knew I needed a reason to visit Utah. Suprisingly enough someone I know moved to Utah and the great trip to Burger Bar was born.

    Worth it?

    Most definitely.

Juicy, delicious, cheesy, gigantic burgers with onions rings and fries to match. A point of interest for me was the fry sauce, as up until then I have never had it before but it definitely was delicious.

For a place surrounded in a crowd of people the service was fast and the order nice and hot. Price wise not too bad, my only complaint? I wish they had a public restroom as, after a 45 minute drive, we could have used one.

Definitely a point of interest for anyone visiting or otherwise, as good as they say it is for sure.

Been going here for the past 10 years... every year we visit UT we go at least a couple times. The normal Big Bens are great- the bread is fluffy and soft, The baby bens dont have the same kind of bread, so they are kind of gross. Fries are nice and crisp, and of course they have the 'fry sauce.' People from Utah get a culture shock when they go to other states and try to get that! The onion rings are really great! But they do add to your order time. Of course there is a bit of a wait at any time of the day. We are addicted to the shakes- the ice cream sticks up over the top of the cup and you can basically adda nything you want. It never get quite all the way mixed, but I like it that way. You never know what your next bite will hold. I do wish they had a place to eat there rather than in your car, but they are not set up that way and the other location is gone now.

That Burger Bar gets face time on Food Network shows how backwater Utah can be on getting even the classics like burgers done right. Is this the best they could have featured? No! Did they even try? Not much of a compliment to Utah if they did.

Yeah, the buns are big. Sure they give a nod to local mountain peak Ben Lomond. Indeed, they've been a Roy staple for generations. I grew up in Roy, so I've downed many a Double Ben, Sea Ben, Fried Mushrooms, Onion Rings, Shakes, whatever.

But "Booger Bar" doesn't make a great burger. They don't make a huge, yet extremely delicious, gastronomic oddity like often graces food and travel shows. (See Big Juds in Boise that recently got some publicity on Man V. Food.) Once Burger Bar was a cheap eats dive, but their prices are just okay given the food quality. Burger Bar's tour de force is a freak show burger: a limp griddle-cooked Big Ben patty on a soggy bun dressed with Utah Fry Sauce soaking in shredded iceberg lettuce and a pickle.

They haven't served the hand-cut fries, one of things that earned them a name, as the staple style of french fry for nearly 20 years. (And even then they weren't quite as good as memory makes them.) They'll still make "old-fashioned" fries on special order but they're even darker, limper, more broken and greasy than they once were. In other words, they got worse at even attempting to serve a well-made classic french fry. At one time they even loaded you up with their adequate fry sauce; now they practically give you a thimble of the stuff in comparison. Cheapwads.

I would've given them 3.5 - 4 stars -- on a "good greasy spoon" kind of scale -- when I was hanging out here for late eats after a high school football game. But once you've experienced dives and diners worth crowing about, this place doesn't stand out much in a good way. Somehow Burger Bar got worse over the years, and not a "bad for your health but good for your tastebuds" kind of worse. Even for nostalgia's sake it's pretty ordinary.

The only reason I came down here was the special on Guy's Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. I happened to be watching the food network while I was visiting Utah. Its nice to visit there, but really, its just a burger joint. This was a large hamburger, but the patty was not thick, but rather just flattened out. Still debating if I like that...

The shakes are hefty and decent sized. I would come back here just for the shakes.

Like many others, I saw this place reviewed on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." Pulled in after a day-long drive from Denver. It did not disappoint. Sure, there is almost no place to sit, but others were willing to share their spots on the various concrete slabs that offer horizontal space. And what's a little discomfort when the food is good? I sampled beef, buffalo and elk burgers and all were good. Also, the onion rings were first-rate (I am sick and tired of pre-bought onion rings with thick, doughy breading sadly found at so many other places). I did not get a shake, a mistake I realized when a family of four sat down next to me with an impressive variety of flavors. Next time I will definitely try one of the shakes (there are so many kinds, it's intimidating to a rookie) and also the regular fries.

So, is it a destination restaurant? Probably not. Would I hit it every time I'm remotely in the neighborhood? Definitely.

We heard about this place from Triple D on the Food Network. We happened to be in Roy taking care of some business and the restaurant was just around the corner, so we thought we'd check it out.

The service was quick, prices seemed fair and the burgers, fries and shakes were good. That said, I don't know that I'd drive all the way to Roy from Salt Lake just for the burger, with all the burger joints down here I am sure I can find one as good or better.

You must try the hand-made fried mushrooms! When I am in a mood for a huge burger the Big Ben is your choice! I have tried their Exotic meats burgers too, their Elk and Bison are great examples of the complexity just changing the meat of your burger  does to your meal. their steak Ben happens to be super-huge pressed steak sandwich!!! There is no outside seating and it literally a Bar you have to walk up and order your meal and pick it up...!

The continuation of what became a burger quest weekend.......had visitors in from SF, and they had seen this place on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.  That show makes everything look awesome, so they had decided well in advance of their trip they needed to go here.  We bit the bullet, and took the drive.  It was a ways away from my house.  I have to say it was worth it.  This is old school.  The burgers were great (my friends had like the double Big Ben or something), the buns looked soft and delicious..and the onion rings didn't fall apart.  That for me was the best part.  The rings.  I just had a small hamburger and the rings.  MMMM.  Not sure I would drive back there unless I had another reason, but definitely worth the visit to check it out.  The other part I liked was just sitting on the benches outside eating when your food comes up. Just hanging out people watching.

When I think of Roy, I think of hot summer nights with crowds of high school kids, couples, and families eating in cars and standing around the Burger Bar.   This is the place to go in the area for burgers, fries, and shakes, especially when it's late at night.

My favorite menu item is the Big Ben Burger that comes with freshly cut fries and two little containers of tasty fry sauce.   I also like the soft-serve vanilla ice cream.

This is a good, no-frills, local eating establishment.  And I trust where the locals eat.

This is place is OK I guess. The fries are too salty. The milkshakes are good - a lot of flavors - but it's more like melting ice cream than a milkshake. The burgers need some work. Now, I am sure this is how they have been doing it for decades but the pickles, special Utah fry sauce, and McDonald's lettuce is not doing it for me. The fried mushrooms looked good but I didn't try it unfortunately. Just your average old time burger stand that refuses to change anything. It's fun to go but don't be expecting anything except just massively huge burgers. They have elk and buffalo, which is cool.

The Burger Bar - celebrity of the Food Network's show, "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" was a designated stop on our road trip from Denver to Seattle.  It was only a mile off our designated route, and with all the praise heaped on it from internet denizens and food celebrities it was a no-brainer here to stop here for the obligatory mid-west road trip grease bomb.  We ordered the Big Cheese Ben meal, which came with fries, and we added an order of fried mushrooms and a chocolate malt.  The burger was good, but not stellar as the Hollywood treatment would suggest, and the fries were nice and crispy, but lacking a little in flavor.  Inferior to Burger King fries, in my opinion.  The fried mushrooms, however, were far better than any I've had from buffalo wings joints, with large mushrooms, a flavorful batter and a good choice of dipping goo - "fry sauce", cocktail sauce and a basic ranch.  The chocolate malt was a lot more solid than I expected.  Actually, it stuck out of the cup by about two inches, solid as a soft serve ice cream.  So, not really a chocolate malts.

In case the photographs don't tell the story, this is not a sit down diner.  It's more of a front, with a kitchen crammed behind a wall of plexiglass; an aquarium of fast food exhibits.  Order your food and wait on one of the well used and loved concrete benches.   When you're number is called, march dutifully to the window and pick up your dripping sack of lipids.  Then retreat to your vehicle.  There are no tables or chairs.  Its just you and the burger.

You know, this is a good non-franchise burger place, but I don't see the star appeal.  Solid food, but not something I'd crawl back to, begging for another handful of cheese and beef.  No, this isn't worth the 7 hour drive at all.
