5 reviews for Burger Bar
When I walked into this place, I was sort of underwhelmed. The colours painted on the walls were obnoxious and the furniture was cheesy. The place was small and the menu looked very basic. It was very sterile looking. However, the staff was incredibly nice and warm compared to the decor. It is a custom build your own burger type of a place which I thought was pretty cool, and it didn't seem pretentious or wanna-be ethnic like some of the rest of the eateries in Claremont.
This is what we ordered:
Turkey burger with a wheat bun, american cheese, pesto mayo dressing, and a hamburger combo, with jack cheese, jalapeños, thousand island, sautéed onions and a white bun (I know my fiancé has some weird taste in food sometimes!). The combo came with a drink and fries (sweet potato fries are an option but we didn't get them this time), and we ordered an extra drink....which came to about $15.00 (very inexpensive)
They brought the food to our table, and it was hot, fresh, and extremely good....the turkey patty was seasoned very well, and the pesto mayo was very good. The hamburger was also very good, it was super juicy and fresh. The fries were seasoned, not too crispy, they were perfect.
I noticed comments about the prices being too high and the lack of quality in the meat....I am guessing they have lowered their prices and got better quality of meat since? I know they also have a student special, a burger, fries and drink for $5.00, seems like a pretty good deal to me.
I would give them 5 stars if not for the insane colours painted on the walls. It made my head spin.....
Burger Bar is lick the sauce off the wrapper good. Needless to say, it's the best burger I've had in a long time. If you're in Claremont, this is the place to get a burger.
It's a build-you-own-burger place. The $6, 1/4 lb. burger includes cheese and two extra toppings. I got grilled onions and sauteed mushrooms, and it was delicious.
There are many ways to customize your burger, 1/4 or 1/2 lb, wheat or white bun, lots of sauces (love the bbq), and toppings.
It's built right next to Trader Joe's (by the exit). I've been going to TJ's for a while, and never noticed it.
This place is the happy medium between fast food (including In-N-Out) and fancy restaurant burgers. It's not meant to cater to poor, high school students (see other reviews), but it perfect for those craving a tasty, quality burger. Best of all, the combo is just $2 more for soda and fries (reg. or sweet potato). Definitely gonna go back... maybe tomorrow!
Burger Bar has an interesting concept but a varied execution. I've enjoyed most of what I've tasted and eaten from here. The idea behind Burger Bar is that you can build your own custom burger, chicken sandwich, or veggie sandwich. Part of the fun is coming up with different yet tasty combinations. They have a large variety of things to put on your burger, and most of the ingredients seem good quality. They also have pre-arranged burgers as well as salads. The chicken sandwich I had with cheddar, Plum BBQ sauce, mushrooms and greens was very good. I don't like thick chicken breasts so I appreciated the pounded thinner breasts. I've also had the veggie with the same combination, and that was not so good. They don't actually have a veggie patty; their "veggie burger" consists of grilled vegetables on a bun. The vegetables were strange and didn't seem to blend well together. It was the delectable chicken burger, not the veggie that kept this review at 4 stars. I also tried the regular burger and it was one of the better burgers I've had lately. Prices seemed fairly reasonable to me as all three base choices were around $7 and included choice of bread, cheese, sauce, and 3 toppings.
It's next to Trader Joe's, so you have to fight Trader Joe's customers for parking. But there is a fair amount of parking in front of Citibank, and lots of parking in the back behind Candlelight Pavilion if you are willing to walk.
I would most definitely come back here for the chicken and the regular burger.
Burger Bar was one of the last places to be built in the new Old School house area, so I always wondered if the wait would be worth it.. and finally this week it opened it's doors for the first time! =)
Honestly, I really wasn't expecting much with it's tacky name.. I mean the owners could have gotten a bit more original, but whatever. For something so cheesey, the name definitely does NOT match the burgers' price range. For a burger alone it costs about $6-7, however for a meal which includes fries and a drink, it's about another $2.
For some reason, I thought that since it was so near the high school it would cater to the poor, jobless teenagers like myself. However I was delusional (I realized later it's CLAREMONT and thus nothing is cheap), but yet I was hungry and desperate.
The burger patty was a bit thin (1/4 lb), but otherwise I thought it was tasty and filling! I totally reccommend the House Special sauce for anyone who likes pesto! YUMMMM! They give you a lot of options of what you can get on your burger, but they don't really give you a lot of options when it comes to anything else on the menu.. Their name was true, it really is simply a "Burger Bar."
The concept is cool: Come in and order a burger with anything you want on it. The restaurant is new, its clean, pretty nice inside. Everyone is friendly and helpful.
The fixins are all fresh. Nice tomatoes, lettuce, buns etc. However the meat is a different story. Very reminiscent of those pre-frozen, pre-shaped pucks that you get in a cafeteria or a beach bbq. Flavorless, low quality beef made this experience very "blah". It wasn't cheap either. 1 burger and 1 burger combo was about $18 - a lot more than we wanted to spend for a mediocre burger.
The only saving grace was the sweet-potato fries, which were tasty. I would say wait until they upgrade their meat. I mean how hard is it to grab some fresh, quality, ground beef and form them into nice juicy patties?
If you are not on the quest for the ultimate burger, this will be a fine stop.
