My brother recommended this place when we visited him for Easter.
I like their unique, interesting concept for Indian style burger.
I tried their chicken special burger and it came loaded with chicken marinated with spices, an indian style omlette and yogurt base sauce.
If you like to eat very good and unique burger that is different than traditional burger I would highly recommend this place. This place will disappoint you.
This place is open till 5 AM on weekends. -

The eggplant burger is truly amazing.
That being said, I've had several not so amazing experiences here. The majority of times that I've gone in and ordered the eggplant burger, it hasn't been available, so I was forced to order something else. Their other burgers just aren't very substantial, and I don't like having to order sides separately.
There is one cook who makes the eggplant burgers really spicy and tasty, but the other cook isn't very good at making them, so it's kind of hit or miss.
One big plus is that it's open really late. -

When you have those cravings for the perfect juicy Indian tasting burgers.,This has gotta be the go to place! Love the veggie burgers. And the chicken burgers ( with an indian twist ) are to die for as well. Definitely a favorite on the ave.

Review from Sione P.
Beef gyro is apparently sliced up burger patty and the meat is not super-tasty for a gyro, though I imagine it's better as a burger. The food was not bad, but I experienced a surprise that apparently isn't as uncommon as I'd thought since another reviewer mentioned it... a toothpick in the food! Mine was nearly at the bottom of the gyro that was tightly wrapped in paper, so I did half-eat it because I didn't see it and was running back to work while eating the whole thing and it sucked stabbing my cheek.
Dangerous habit to leave toothpicks in the food... I'll be across the street at Aladdin Gyro-Cery. -
Review from Kevin C.
Its cheap food, and it's good. Probably one of the better burger places on the ave, and they cook it right in front of you, the kitchen is pretty clean. no bs here.
I recommend the burger hut special, while my buddy always gets the spicy chicken. -

Just AWSOME burgers there.
This is a tiny place with high sitting stools for probably 10 to 12 people. They cook your order from scratch, right in front of your eyes. As fresh and tasty as it gets.
My top favorite items there are, "Burger-Hut Special", and "Spicy Chicken". Their pinapple shake is pretty damn good too. Oh.. and.. the fries with their special masala seasoning.
Whenever I feel hungry late night, this place is my top pick.
If you are a jerk who is going to bad mouth this place for its looks or high stools, you don't deserve to eat there.
In my book... FRESH, TASTY, SUPER CHEAP LATE-NIGHT burgers are always winner. Doesn't matter how the place looks. -

Very good for the price. I had the cheese burger combo. It had an egg on it. I must say i never thought i would try an egg on a burger. Well i loved it. The owner seems really nice. I was impressed to see a good burger place open so late. Its the best place to eat at night on the ave.

Here is the deal. While the food was OK, maybe 3 stars, what was not cool was a full sized sharp toothpick embedded in the center of the vegetarian paddy wrap I ordered. I could have died if I would have swallowed that. Just shows a lack of attention on there part, who knows what else could happen.

If u r a fitness freak who wants to take a break committing sin by slamming on some burgers make it a point to reach out to this tiny joint (that can accommodate barely 6-7 at a time) .... but will find a permanent spot in ur hart and u'll name a taste-bud of yours "BurgetHut".
Outta the world experience, coupla beers from the nearby pubs in Univ st and a hearty (and stomachful .... duh!!!) burger is my choice of a laid back weekday nite.
Every Indian dude yearning for a desi-burger experience must visit this place. Dust a lil bit of the condiment he has table-top for a mini rolla-caster ride. Milkshakes are worth a mention but far from the variety of burgers they have in offer.
THIS PLACE IS A VEGGIES' DELIGHT. -

Review from Megan A.
I have been going to Burger Hut throughout my college career - it's my go to place when I want a cheeseburger, since the only fast food chain in the U District is Jack in the Box. A couple of years ago, there was what seemed to be a father (who never smiled) and son duo who made the food, but now it is run by a group of guys who seem more friendly. One guy likes to tease me for always ordering a plain cheeseburger (he hands it to me and says extra tomato and extra onions!)
The food is...ehhh. Everything was once frozen...frozen burgers, frozen fries, frozen onion rings. It tastes okay, not amazing, but not disgusting. I admit that I really love the onion rings. The milkshakes are tasty too!
The prices are fairly comparable to other burger joints in the area, but really expensive if you compare them to a large fast food chain. I wish they would use some of the money they make to fix the place up - the few seats and counter space are run down and it seems a little bit dirty. I have never actually eaten there because the atmosphere is not that great.
Also note, that they will not let you use a card if it's under a certain amount of money. I tried to order a milkshake once and had no cash, so they just lost my money. So frustrating. -
Review from Lilly A.
I love this place. The owner is really nice, and I always leave here super satisfied. I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place yet!
Basically to boil it down: its a burger place. I've never seen a kabob made here.... but the great thing about it is that it is a hole in the wall, I always end up leaving here with hilarious conversations with new people I've met, and the burgers! Yum. I don't know what he does to make the burgers so good (oh so setting myself up for some gross comment), but its the perfect balance.
Today I tried the veggie patty instead of my usual, and I must say it is not your typical one, but I definitely ate every last bite! -
Review from Nath, A.
Two years and many burgers later, I think this is a three-star burger joint. The meat is densely packed and not terribly beefy; the downside of using pre-packed patties, I guess. Not as good as the loose, freshly ground beef at EJ, or the larger medium-well burgers at Mr Lu's. This is a halal shop, which is good news if you're Muslim, but bad news if you like bacon cheeseburgers. The eggplant and veggie burgers are also surprisingly good; the veggie burger reminded me of Indian-style 'bhej cutlets'.
Still, when everything else is closed, this is a nice change from Aladdin's and Memo's.Listed in: Cholesterol, Gyros etc.

Nothing says U-District like greasy, delicious hamburgers at 2AM. This is the restaurant for you if you are
1) Craving salt
2) Drunk
3) High
4) Hung over
5) Getting over a bad break up
6) Starving
7) Not a vegetarian
Be forewarned, it looks HELLA sketchy inside and out. Just close your eyes and accept your food with a smile. It'll be worth it. -
Review from Robby C.
After a string of hit and misses throughout the week, we thought we would go back to a familiar surefire restaurant from our days in college to rejuvenate our faith in Seattle dining. Located on University Avenue, the relatively small shop is home to one of the best, if not the best, burger on the street.
Burger Hut Special: your basic burger with all the dressings topped with an egg and cooked to perfection.
That is basically all you need to know. Of course the place is crowded and the restaurant is cramped, but somehow if the shop fixed any of these things it just would not be the same anymore. Plus, the majority of the character comes from the colorful people that arrive at all hours of the day from the typical university student during the day to the drunken nomad hipster university alum that somehow managed to make his way down from Fremont to beg for burger at two in the morning. Seriously, half of our college stories often end in meeting at either the Burger and Kabob Hut or Aladdin Gyro-Cery across the street; not sure if that is a good or a bad thing though.Listed in: Burger Bites

Review from Inna B.
This is not the fancy and/or unique place with comfortable seating, great atmosphere, and wonderful food kind of 5-stars..
This is, however, the juicy hamburger with the works for $3.95, tasty milkshake for $3.25, and close enough to campus/work (aka- convenient!) that I could get it and eat it all in under 30 minutes (when it's not busy) kind.
It's small so there's not much in the way of seating, but you can always get it to-go and eat on campus or at a park (if it's nice out). The guy that I've seen working there every time I've been in is great, and since I had no friends with me this time I got to watch him grill up my patty and put the burger together. I LOVE watching people work with food!
Payment: They take debit (visa and mastercard) as long as your purchase is at least $5. I believe he once told me that they don't take credit.
LOVE this place!Listed in: U-District Foods, Goods & Etc

Review from Ian S.
This is a grungy burger place with seedy people in it.
They do one thing super awesome which, if things were better, would five star this baby.
I am referring to their veggieburger of all things.
I ordered a Hawaiian burger here. It was the wrong thing to do. I had a bite of the veggie burger which, as I was then informed, is made in house and spiced in a way I had never tasted before. It was seriously delicious and not like those frozen bricks of processed plant refuse that you've seen in the grocery store.
My burger, on the other hand, was horrible and twice the price of a Dick's double burger for the price of a single. Weak.
They should rename this place to be "The Mostly Unclean Home of the Superior Veggieburger and Other Crap You Should Not Order."
It's a bit of a long name, but seemingly accurate.
I've heard a couple of, ahem, physically robust people talk about their bacon cheeseburgers with eyerolling afterglow orgasmic tones, but whatever. It's a sloppy burger on a wonderbread bun. Nothing interesting. -

Coming from India, it's so difficult to find a really spicy burger. Sure there are burger joints that offer "spicy" burgers, but not the kind of spiciness that makes your eyes water and clears your sinuses. Whenever I am in the need for a really spicy chicken burger, or if my sinuses feel a little stuffy, I'll head to this place. For $5, you get a pretty large burger that is spicy enough to light up a rocket. I've always received the friendliest service and plenty of food. The burger is usually stacked with chicken, not fluffed up with lettuce.
This is definitely a no-frills, simple burger joint that belongs on the Ave as a benchmark burger place. I'll definitely be coming back here! -
Review from Sean C.

More or less your standard late night burger joint. They've got a nice selection of burgers from $4-5, Burger Hut special included. I can't think of any other place off the top of my head where you can get an egg on your burger at 2 am. However, I'm pretty sure they don't use fresh eggs; the egg came out of this dispenser which they poured onto the grill as they fry it up for your order. Might be a dealbreaker for some, but I think most of Burger Hut's patrons are too drunk to care regardless.
I used to remember Burger Hut having awesome milkshakes, but I went again recently and was slightly disappointed; the milkshake simply failed to live up to the usual expectations I had implanted in my mind. So maybe I'm on the fence on this one.
In general, a solid place to grab a late night burger. However, its hard to drag myself over here late at night when just across the street, there's a far more appetizing option... -
Review from Vivian N.
The only thing I ever took away from my freshman orientation group in college was to eat at this fine burger establishment. Home to seedy customers and drunk frat boys alike, this joint sells a modest, but tasty array of burgers, kabobs, milkshakes, and fries.
Although it can take a good 7-10 minutes for your burger to be made, all of their patties are fresh - they do fry their patties a la fast food though.Their Chicken Burger is my favorite thing to order off of the menu, but I've also had their Mushroom Burger (the abundance of mushrooms surprisingly compliment the burger) and the BurgerHut Special (ground beef patty + a small omelette & spices - nothing to write home about).
Other reviewers have expressed a distaste in Burger Hut's "atmosphere." I think what one needs to remember is that this restaurant is catering to the college crowd - you really aren't going to find swanky eats on the Ave. -

Review from Bonnie C.
Burger Hut is awesome.
They've got a tasty-sounding menu of specialty burgers: Teriyaki, double bacon and cheese, the house special (involves a fried egg), etc... But I can't speak to them as I don't eat meat. Testimonials from my friends have ranged from sublime to pretty damn decent.
I give Burger Hut five stars for their veggie burgers. The menu says it's a 'gardenburger' but that's not true. These patties have no resemblance to the dry grain- or soy-based ones you find in the frozen aisle of the grocery store that have the taste and texture of shredded cardboard. No, the Burger Hut veggie burger is a house-made, moist chickpea and spice based secret recipe of deliciousness. It's the best veggie burger I've ever had (and I've eaten a lot of veggie burgers).
The shakes are thick and the fries are crispy. Everything is made to order in this little hole-in-the-wall on the Ave. It's open until 3 am AND the meat and kabobs are halal. Burger Hut hits the spot every time.Listed in: So You're New in Town, eh?

This is a late night burger joint that hits the spot . Very simple menu and thick shakes.
Your orders are prepared in front of you. You get your order quick so you can enjoy them. Typical burger with fries and drink.
For the money I would go across to Aladdin. But if you have the cravings for burgers at 3 am in the morning this is your spot. -

"No frills" pretty much sums it up. Don't get me wrong --- they serve a delicious burger and fries, but it doesn't leave you thinking "man, I gotta come back to this place."
They'll make the burgers right in front of you, which is nice. You know your food is fresh. $6 will get you a burger, fries and drink. It was served hot and relatively fast. When it's late and everything else on the ave is closing down, this place will satisfy your urgent cravings. Otherwise, go to A Burger Place just a block up. -

This place is good for burger fixes. Of course, it's not top notch or gourmet, but the clientele's expectations are not high when it's 10 pm on a weeknight and there's studying to be avoided.
I've seen a cockroach crawl across the wall here, but this is probably the case for so many restaurants in the U-District. -

I love this place. This is the place that I always come to after a tiring night of dancing. The kabab pitas are excellent and so are their shakes. I love the fact this place is open so late.

Review from Jon D.
I was skeptical at first about the dumpy-looking Burger Hut in the middle of the Ave. I was happily surprised that, like most things on the Ave, the dumpier-looking things tend to have the most soul.
I walked into the crowded little space, and ordered my Burger Special, a cheeseburger crowned with the all-too-fitting layer of rich eggy deliciousness (If a burger place has a burger with an egg on it, I am obligated to try it).
The burger came out big and juicy, no dripping of fat reserved, on a tray. I bit into it, and it immediately hit the spot, you know the one that craves beefy burger goodness at all times. This is not a clean burger. I was dribbling down my chin at a couple points. But tasty it indeed was.
4 stars for a solid burger meal. Not the best value around, not the most unique, the place is super cramped, and that keeps it away from 5 stars... but is it good? It's good. -
Review from Deborah S.
Seattle, WA
This place scares me. Grungy, dumpy, just not the place you want to ear. But I was craving a burger today. I was craving a fast food like burger. I'd heard that they did decent shakes and finally decided to bite the bullet .
A mushroom burger and onion rings set me back 6.37.
No go on shakes today so I was left disappointed on that front.
The burger was hot, fresh, juicy with lots of flavor.
The onion rings were fresh, but were also those chopped onion onion rings, not the real onion piece ones.
Seating inside is totally uncomfortable, but the place is small so i guess they do with what they have.
I'll go back, it does fit a niche. -
Review from Chloe V.
San Francisco, CA
First of all, this place looks really ugly, inside and out. This is overshadowed by its proximity to campus, the made to order fast food, and the fact that it is only really crowded at 2am when everything else is closed.
There are three dudes who work here, and occasionally a woman who I assume is a wife of one of them. They are all super nice. One time I dashed out of Odegaard, famished from writing my Jane Eyre paper, and into the rain for the short walk to Burger Hut. I ordered my veggie burger and fries but when it came time to pay I realized I left my wallet in the library! I told the dudes that I had to go back to school to get my money, but they told me not to worry about it. Granted, they see me eat there all the time, but I lost my wallet so I pretty much needed to find my wallet. They made me take my food to go as I ran back to Odegaard to find it. Luckily, it was in the lost and found, untouched and I was able to go back and pay the Burger Hut dudes.
In addition to great service, the buns they use are always fluffy, warm and soft. Something else cool is that they make their own veggie burger patties! -

Burger and Kabob Hut...one of the weirdest restaurants on the Ave, but probably one of the better ones in terms of the value of what you get. The service can be really slow sometimes, but the milkshakes, burgers, and fries are delicious and well worth the wait. The Oriental Burger is especially awesome.
I have never seen this place closed either so it's a great late-night snack. -

Been here 3-4 times... gotten the same thing everytime: Eggplant Burger.
BEST.
I guess I've tried their veggie burger, too. Nothing special.. pretty good, but after taking a bite of my friend's, I was glad that it was Eggplant in my hands. They're open really late too, so it's perfect for my nocturnal (or no-sleep) life-style. -
Review from Alan N.
I stumbled upon this place while venturing through the Street Fair crowds this past weekend and it definitely is not a mistake to at least try this place.
I really like this place for their witty, quick and friendly service. The cook and I exchanged some friendly, sarcastic banter which made the wait feel even shorter than it already was especially considering the small crowd that had assembled for their Burger-fix. The food was was really tasty and like so many U-district joints this place had a decent sized selection of choices to choose from.
I must say though there were a few things I did not like...The serving sizes were far from "healthy". I think I got a total of 15 onion rings and the patty on the burger was maybe a slight degree thicker than it's McD's cousin which is definitely not a good thing if I have to compare anything at a restaurant to McD's. Finally the prices, I feel like I should've gone across the street because this one join (which will not be named) would have gotten me much more full for about the same price. But I guess this is why I had to try this place to find out!
I would definitely recommend this place if you have the drunken munchies and are craving a decent burger on the way home from Earl's but otherwise I might have to flip a coin between this place and some of the many other places on the Ave. -
Review from Rohan S.
Burger Hut makes real burgers that you just cannot get at fast food joints. It isn't exactly a sit-down restaurant, but you should expect your burger to take about 10 minutes to cook up. I would put the quality somewhere between Wendy's and Red Robin. A nice hamburger will cost you about $4.
This place makes real, beefy burgers with actual condiments that you can taste and savor from the first bite to the last. Definitely my favorite burger joint other than Red Robin (which is slower and more expensive). -
Review from The-Hoa H.

Maybe there was a change of owners or something because I came here way back when it was just burgerhut and they only served burgers? I don't know I was like in 9th grade...and I stopped by for lunch....I ordered a cheeseburger...which took exceptionally long to cook and came out tasting pretty moderate...oh welll now I hear this place serves gyros and such....Hopefully I'll try it out this quarter.

Heard good things about Burger Hut, so I had to try it out.
Little hole in the wall, cheap prices and relatively simple menu. I had the Hawaiian burger because pineapple and meat is always an awesome combination. Burger came piled with veggies and was cooked well. Out the door for under $5 - will come back. -
Review from Kai W.
Bloomington, IN
The 3 star is a mix review of food and customer service attitude.
The burger was excellent, good enough but not too oily. Each bite made sure you tasted not only the meat but also the veggies and sauces. The fries was a fairly good sidekick as well.
The variable customer service was quite shocking though. So to get a five star service to go along with the food, be sure to dress up as a fairly pretty girl. I know, but it's the truth. -
Review from Brianne D.
Chicago, IL
The stools are a little high for the counter, which makes for a bit of awkward sitting, the bathroom is nothing to shake a stick at, and it's not a place to bring 20 of your closest friends, but if a burger, fries and a glorious milkshake are what you're craving, Burger Hut will hit the spot every time.
Too bad they don't deliver! -
Review from Jonas C.
Schenectady, NY
The fact that the stools are as high as the bottom of the counter implies probably that they didn't plan much for dine in, which is fine, since it's a small place anyways. I'd imagine that this place probably tastes a lot better at 3AM, but I wasn't here at 3AM. Not being a college student or frequenting the area often, I'd imagine I lose out on the charm of the place. Nice place, not somewhere I'd go out of my way to go to though.

Review from Chris M.
Seattle, WA
Some time a few weeks ago I had the night off and felt the siren song of burger lust lick at my chops like a nympho-maniacal butcher's ghost. I paced frantically in my tiny apartment, swerving shifty-eyed and lonesome, in truth slavering fiendishly for that sweet, sweet combination of bread, protein, dairy, starch and heat.
Finally, I checked the time and realized most everything on the Ave suited to my needs would be closed and elected to try, for the first time, Burger Hut.
I'd seen Burger Hut for years, nestled snug between a copy shop and a variety of other restaurants and had even on a lark once popped my head in and asked if their beef was sourced ("it comes from a company," they said.) Better safe than sorry, so that day I declined and bought a pound of grass-fed beef from the farmer's market, and the night I finally enjoyed Burger Hut I would be practicing the same ethos and so ordered their vegetarian option plus fries -- an order to go, as I had a bottle of New Belgium Ranger IPA which was definitely not halal to drink in the restaurant.
They asked if I liked spicy and I answered in the very affirmative, so they gave the cooked patty a loose spiral of sriracha much to my delight. I was pretty excited at that point. I was getting my hopes up, which is often dangerous when dining on the Ave, but what was the worst thing that could happen? A sub-par burger? I was pumped, and nervous. I could smell the fries in the bag and that was enough to spur me on. I boarded my trusty vessel, a recycled mountain bike (fixies are for posers) and dashed home in the pouring rain.
Before I review this burger, I've got to tell you, the Ranger IPA that New Belgium just put out is a quality freaking IPA. It has everything you could desire from an $8 craft brew at half the price point. I must heartily endorse and recommend it for burgers. It's a damn fine bottle of beer. Moving on!
I got home and changed out of rain soaked clothes into fluffy warm pajamas and opened the brown paper bag my food came in. I didn't have any ketchup in the fridge, but luckily they had tossed a few packets into the bag, and isn't that the ideal anyway? Refrigerated ketchup can be a let down if you're going for the total burger experience. Ketchup warmed by fries and a burger seems to have a sharper vinegary bite than that which is squeezed from a chilled plastic bottle. The fries weren't a vision of the archangel Gabriel, but they weren't bad. Starchy and fat without too much grease, but ever so slightly limp and wet. Alas.
The burger, on the other hand, was magnificent. I think it's some kind of lentil or chickpea patty, because it had the uniform consistency of a deep-fried paste or finely ground grain. There were no vegetable artifacts to provide meaning or depth, and I was not looking for a concept burger, so it met me there at crossroads of America and served me a classic composed without the fuss or phony artifice of your usual Seattle veggie burger. It was not Thai-fusion or molecular gastronomy. It was exactly what I had wanted.
The combination of all three items -- the IPA, the burger, the fries -- seemed to coalesce and grow into something greater than the sum of it's parts. It had reached critical mass to break the three-star barrier. It was semi-religious, to be perfectly honest. I sometimes am forced by circumstance to finish a burger quickly, just to get it over with, but I dined on this bitch for an hour at least. It's a taste to savor and relish, and goodness did I. At the final bite, I recall leaning back in my chair and flashing on satori. It was that good.
How could it be better? I think the patty could use finer seasoning, and a sour note in the trimmings (ie. a larger or more flavorful pickle, perhaps even relish) would take this dish up a notch. And it ought to go without saying that the fries could use work. Maybe fresh cut potatoes?
I really can't say. The experience was too subjective. I thoroughly enjoyed my burger at Burger Hut, and will definitely be returning some other night when pho is closed and the weather is forbidding and dark and the burger sylph whispers in my ear again, "come, come."
