I love Burbank Pet Vet. The Doctors are great and the staff is great as well. I may have only had 1 staff member with a bad attitude. We have been taking our dogs here for years (8 to be exact).
PROS:
Great Doctors, great attitudes
Nice Staff, very helpful
Trust worthy
Not too expensive (Vet care is expensive anywhere you go)
Always willing to help whenever I call
Cons:
Minimal Parking
Facility is old and run down looking, in major need of an upgrade
You must pay up front.
I wish they had longer hours, but I understand they need to be home sometimes too. -

I visited here because it was close to home and read decent reviews on Yelp. I'm here to say I'd go back, and Dr. Flugee is direct, to the point, and a great vet.
To all who say this place is 'run down'...as of 2012...it has new paint, tile floors, etc. But the place is OLD. Note: animals WRECK stuff. Can you keep a house 'perfect' with dogs, cats and such day in and out? I don't think so...most vet places take a real beating!
If you want 'plush' interiors and new buildings/furniture...you will PAY for those ammentities in the bill.
I brought in my cat due to rapid weight gain, frequent urination and drinking tons of water. To top it off, I've been unemployed for 3 + years and dreaded going to a vet knowing what costs were.
Dr. flugee was very nice, listened and I told her directly, I was job less and wanted to keep the tab minimal. However, I needed a blood test, which is usually 3 figures.
My cat has been combative, and her assistant had a towel at the ready...gently gathering up my kitty for the test in the back room. They weighed my kitty but I didn't see a temperature taken with an anal thermometer.
They got the blood and we also discussed a funny skin rash the kitty had. they also shaved her rear end which was messy...she is so old and fat, she no longer cleans herself there. At other vets, I'm charged for the 'hair cut'. Not here....
The Dr. gave me an antibiotic...after I asked WHICH form was the less expensive option. Pill was.
If you are a pet owner, YOU need to be in the drivers seat and be proactive with the Dr asking for what you want. And be honest with your finances. I'm unemployed which is much different than being 'cheap'.
The Dr. told me the test would be ready Monday...and I was called PROMPTLY at 8:30 Am with the test results...my cat was borderline Diabetic.
I would glady tell anyone about this good 1st time experience. Again, you need to be in the drivers seat with being open and honest about how much you can or will spend. After telling me she included an FIV test, I asked for it to be removed due to it not being necessary. There was no issues or arguments.
Too many whinny people on Yelp who want ton's of 'plush ammentities' and cheap costs...that's kinda like champagne taste and beer budget.
This vet did a great job and $200 later, I know my cat needs a diet change among other things and is being treated for a skin rash. -

Dr. Flugee is the best! She is really great with my dog, gets on the floor talks to him like I would. I don't feel the same way about Dr. Kumar, mostly because my dog doesn't like him- but I generally find that who my dog likes is a good indicator of who I should like...regardless, my dog seems comfortable here and I love the staff. They are usually able to fit me in, even on short notice, and don't even blink to fit me in only with Dr. Flugee. Been going here since 1993.

We just took our two cats here. This place is great! We are nervous, first-time cat owners, and the entire staff was warm and friendly, which helped put us at ease. Our cats had a very easy check-up, and we left feeling very cared for. Dr. Kumar was really thorough -- he didn't rush through the appointment like human doctors do. One of our cats had ear mites, and he actually let us look at them under the microscope. It was fascinating! Kudos to the entire staff for their excellent service.

Got a realistic evaluation of what our care options were and gave us the ability to take care of our little one without breaking the bank. Went to two other hospitals that insisted we needed to have all this lab work done that would make our dogs surgury cost twice as much. She's 14 - besides removing the tumor, there is not much else we are going to do - so why do we have to have the lab work? This place was great and she healed up well and they were super great to interact with. I've used 6 different vets in my life and this one is the best.

Besides all the great reviews this place gets on yelp, I also got a personal recommendation for these vets from a friend who brings her dogs there. I'd have to say that this place definitely lives up to their reputation.
I was able to get an appointment quickly for a sick cat. They gave me all the options on what I could do to find out what was wrong with her. What was nice was that they didn't automatically expect me to pay for EVERYTHING like my old vet used to. These vets gave me all the information and let me decide what I wanted/needed to do.
Dr. Fluegge was very thorough in her examination and asked me lots of questions to get the full background of my pet as it was our first visit.
Leaving the pet hospital I didn't break my wallet. Sure, it cost money for the xrays, the blood work, the medicine etc....but it was quite a bit less than I would have spent at my MV vet.
And now..my cats doing MUCH better and is back to her normal voracious self. -

Dr. Kumar is THE go-to vet for greyhounds. I met a lady in the waiting room who drives in from Livermore, just to see "the greyhound guy."
The staff is warm and welcoming, and I'm sure other breeds of animals are treated just as well. This is the first vet's office I've encountered that has separate entrances, waiting rooms and exam rooms for cats and dogs. -

I just took my two cats here today. I live close by, so thought this would be a good place to take them as it is a short ride and they don't do well with car rides.
The whole staff is really friendly and warm. I had a good experience with them from the time I called for an appointment to the time I walked out the door.
The Vet (Dr. Fluegge) was thorough, gentle, and very nice.
The prices are good, a lot better than I imagined they would be.
The place is small, and looks a bit rough on the outside, but who cares when you get great service on the inside!
This will be MY vet from now on! -

I have been going to Burbank ever since I adopted my chihuahua mix from the Humane Society over a year ago. My mom actually recommended this place since she had been taking her dog and her cats here for years. They are so kind and professional. All of the staff are truly compassionate for animals. They do their best to get you in right away--I had called about my dog acting funny, she was having accidents in her crate which never did before and they said she may have a urinary tract infection and to bring her in that same day. It was such a relief to get it taken care of right away. I have only seen Dr. Fluegge and she is amazing. She's very gentle. Their pricing is very reasonable. Don't let the scary San Carlos street full of biker bars scare you away--this place is the best.
Sadly, my mom's cat passed away recently. The Burbank staff sent her a card expressing their condolences and even followed up with a call to see how she was doingto see if she needed to talk to someone about her loss. How sweet is that? That is definitely going over and beyond! -

I have been taking my dogs to Burbank Pet Hospital for over 10 years on the referral from a trusted friend. I trust Dr. Kumar and his staff mainly because they take the time to fully explain any recommended treatments and their side effects so you can make an informed decision. His knowledgeable staff also know how to make animals feel at home in a scary situation for them. They have gone above and beyond the call of duty in more than a few cases and I find the costs to be reasonable across the board. The main thing is I have never had to second guess any recommendation they have ever made.
The bottom line, Burbank Pet Hospital provides consistent outstanding care for your pet at reasonable prices. If I could give them stars for above and beyond the call of duty I would! -

I have been taking my dog and two cats to Burbank Pet Hospital for several years and have been very happy with the services provided by Dr. Runyon, his vets and staff. They care about the animals and the cost of their services are reasonable (fecal lab test, exam and medication came to $106) . The vets explain everything so you are well informed about your pet's situation.
The location and facility may turn some people off. The facility's decor is outdated (something from a 60's edition of Sunset Magazine), but they are well equipped to handle your pets needs and give excellent care.
Open Monday thru Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cash and credit cards accepted. -

I moved to California yesterday, arriving about twelve hours after a very long car trip with two itchy cats - obviously not doing well. I looked at reviews here and checked with a few local friends. I was able to get an appointment today, and was really impressed with everyone from the assistant who handled my call to the vet tech who evaluated the cats, the vet who gave them the exam and diagnosis, and the tech who helped hold down the cranky one so she could be treated - firmly, but gently.
The building leaves a lot to be desired; without the recommendation from friends and reviews here, I would've never taken the cats there. A door to an exam room didn't completely close, for example. Looks like some remodeling is underway, which may help. I'm really happy with what matters most - care for my pets, and cost (reasonable), and glad we found them. -

Dr. Kumar took care of my pugs. I took them both in separately at different occasions. The staff were also friendly and Dr. Kumar really does know how to take care of your pets.
Price and Care:
Office visits are $45 plus whatever treatments that are additional. Dr. Kumar will give you his best recommendations and all other choices. And then you'd pick what you feel is the right thing to do for your pets. He'll give you pros and cons for each treatment(s) and its price. And, his honest opinion.
My pug had a hysticytoma (a benign tumor that I learned about after the visit). He even went the extra mile to print it off from his vet/doc website about the benign tumor. He mentioned that it will go away on its own usually and that the infections usually does not last long...but because I am an overly "worrisome mom" lol...I requested to have something to bring home for him to treat it or even soothe it or make it go away faster.
So he gave me a small bottle (infection cleansing solution made for dogs) and some pills to make it go away faster (because I didn't want it staying too long on him)...it didn't cost that much...but I absolutely appreciate his understanding of my needs and gave me something for my pugs for my peace of mind.
And, low and behold, the benign tumor did go away in about 2 weeks, instead of the typical 1 month to 3 months.
Yay for Dr. Kumar =) -

My Maine Coone had a ringworm infection which she got from the shelter she was in earlier. We brought her here and Dr.Shapiro attended to us. The paper work was quick. But though we had an appointment, we had to wait additional 15mins. Our cat doesn't like being held or handled. But the doctor's assistant was a very capable woman. Very friendly people, all of them. Dr.Shapiro chatted with us for a while. He has a sense of humor too! A lotion was prescribed for the infection. It's been 3 weeks and she has recovered remarkably well. It's a great place for cats. Reasonable fees too. Overall, good experience.
Exam- $53
Ringworm test- $56
Lotion-$14 -

because of all of the positive reviews, we decided to take our 5 year old American Eskimo to Burbank Pet Hospital. I agree that parking is not the best, if you don't know where the parking and entrance is. There is a lot of parking behind the building. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the vet was thorough and explained everything. There were no hidden costs and no upselling of services such is common at VCA. Highly recommend BPH.

I'm on the fence here. I took my cats here for years even after moving to Campbell and then Sunnyvale. I felt that they were affordable and did not surprise you with tons of hidden charges like some vets I've encountered have and they are very friendly and helpful. Having just moved to sunnyvale I'm desperate to find a new vet but my reasons for not trying Burbank again are as follows.
1. Low tech, When my cat was sick they did not have the equiptment to see what was wrong and said that the person that did wasn't able to come for a few days to bring it.
2. When I got married my cat got in a fight and got an abcess. I took here there and they treated her and said that in a few days the abcess would need to be draind. I decided to then board her there so they could give her meds on time and drain the wound. Well being a super cat mama I called the clinic from Maui on the day they should drain the wound. Had they done it? No! They had forgotten! I told them wtf am I boarding her then if your going to forget to take care of her! I might have just left her at home! That was an incredible turn off to me of their attention to the pets needs.
I've had good service here, and they have always tried to fit me in when any unexpected cat emergency happens just a few situations that cause me to give them a lower review. -

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this pet hospital. From day one they have been so accommodating and are always patient with me- when I first got my Frenchie puppy I was calling every week with a worry, and they were always helpful. Dr. Girish Kumar is personable and takes the time to explain the procedures and issues with your pet. There have been numerous times when they have squeezed me in the same day. All of their staff are friendly and truly care about the animals.

Both my grandma's dogs use to go to Dr. Runyan and now my mom's cats go to Dr. Kumar. They haven't been in awhile as one of cat's need tranquilzers before he goes, cause he gets a little mean =D lol.
Everyone one here is SO nice. A long time ago my grandma's little lhasa apso decided to play tough and fight a big dog. The big dog demolised him and we took him to the Dr.Runyan to stich up some puncture wounds. Not even 2 weeks later, he was playing tough in the yard barking at a Great Dane. The dane broke thru our fence and hurt our poor baby. When we took him the Dr laughs and says "What dog this time?". When my mom told him a dane, he went a little white. It happened to be his dog. He felt so bad and even paid to fix our fence. We've had many sick animals come here and many put down here as well. All the staff is so kind as they know you are losing a part of your family.
I even have a friend who brought in her sick bunny here many years ago and now works here! I use her as my pet hotline and text her with animal questions. Haha she should start charging me. Oh and no bunnies as patients now as Dr. Kumar is allergic! -

God I love this place! My first visit was 2 days ago and I was really impressed with how friendly the staff and doctors were (Dr. Kumar was great!) and how well they treated my pet.
The prices were super affordable. I got one exam, 2 tests and medication for $126. Not bad at all!!!
With having a new puppy I am sure Ill be back there very soon. lol! -

9 years ago I met a woman Letica in a photography class. We started talking and I mentioned my cat that was dying of kidney failure. I was heart broken that my baby was so unhealthy, yet I continued her treatment for comfort measures only. She told me she was a vet at BPH and that my vet was ripping me off with the test she was doing. She drew up a chart and said my cat had a month to live, so by spending ectra money on random testing wouldnt be needed. Within 30 days my baby died. Since that day, I have continued going to BPH. Letica has since left for a VCA and because those were the slime bags that first ripped me off, I won't go there, but VCA has helped care for my boxer boy Max for the last 7 years, then Sam my cat for 7 years....and now my 1 year old Shih tzu, 5 year old cat lola and 2 year old cat bubs.
As you can see, I have a lot of animals and quality care for my babies is very important. I have been in there every few months since Max was born since he gets into everything and always seems to have something up with them. Prices are fair, care has been perfect and they even make arrangements not to keep him over night since he goes insane from being locked in a cage.
BPH has my heart!! -

I called to make an appointment for Saturday morning, because I work all day and cannot make it in time for their weekday hours. The lady asks me if I've been there before and I told her," No, this would be my first time." Then she tells me that they recommend first timers come in on weekdays because weekends are really busy, therefore she is not willing to set up my appointment for the weekend.
Ummm...yah. First of all, if I could make it in time for the weekday, do you think I would be calling to set up an appointment for a Saturday? Needless to say I can't base this review on experience since I couldn't even make an appointment... -

This is probably my favorite Vet. They have great doctors and did two of my dogs surgerys. They are very reasonable in prices too! I searched long and hard to find a good price to have my chihuahua's tumor removed, after getting quotes of over $1000, I tried the Burbank Pet Hospital and spent $500!!! They completely removed her tumor and she's been happy & healthy ever since.
Don't be fooled by the dated interior and the parking at Kragens. They really do love animals and don't rape you on the fees!! -

I've been taking my animals to Burbank for years, and Dr. Kumar has always taken great care of them. He listens and understands to concerns, and makes his diagnosis and recommendations based upon what an owner is willing to do.
In my case, I was willing to give my cat daily fluid injections for 1 year, but I know that some owners are not able to give that sort of commitment. He was very open in discussing pros and cons of various treatment options. -

I had a great first visit with Dr. Kumar. He was very compassionate and the whole staff made me feel welcomed and showed concern for my pet's ailment. Dr. Kumar prescribed the right meds to make my pup better (this is after spending $1000 elsewhere with NO improvement!)
I should add that the care is a total five star experience, the one missing star is due to lack parking. -

I love and miss this place!
Best Veterinarian's I have ever met or worked for!
Compassionate and knowledgeable...
This was the very first clinic I ever worked for since coming to America in 2001 and I learned so much in my short 3.5 years... they include their staff in just about everything... the more willing you are to learn, the more you did learn...at that time even the front office staff knew a thing or two, thanks to the education the Dr.'s provided
Dr's Kumar and Runyon (hiya Spike!) made the days fly by with one fascinating case after another...
As for the clients... what can I say... they loved coming to see us and their pet's did too!
Every clinic should aspire to be at this level or care! -

We've taken both of our dogs here and other than the VETERINARIANS (who are great...and the SOLE STAR IS FOR THE VETS ONLY) the staff is INCOMPETENT and USELESS!! Furthermore...when blood was drawn from my white Japanese chin they decide to hand her to me with her leg soaked in blood...d'ya think you can clean her up and hand her to me the way I gave her to you...sans the blood?? We are very glad we decided to take our dogs elsewhere...and even being elsewhere we still have to deal with Burbank staff to get paperwork settled and forms faxed, which apparently is too complicated of a task to undertake...UGHH!!

Initially found this vet from yelp, and decided to go based on the good ratings. my visit started was because my golden pup was limping so dr prescribed some anti-inflammatory for $80 and sent me on my way saying x-rays would tell more but could be $500! The pills within an hour were left high up but not high enough for our other dog to grab and digested all 7. Immediately we rushed back to the vet, where we waited an hour for the vet who offered to induce vomiting and blood work for each dog, another few hundred dollars. Finally he sent us on our way said to call poison control. The dr Also charged us for another refil on pills but Remarked at least he didn't charge us for his time...real worried for my dog thanks...Lastly he quoted me $280 to nueter my retriever (humane society will do it sooner andfor $95) I'm beginning to think this veterinarian office is full of sales people not vets...

Eveyone in my family has taken all their pets (multiple cats, dogs, and even a rat) to Burbank pet hospital, and they've always been great. Reasonably priced (but not cheap), efficient, and always willing to talk to you about care options.
They've helped us to keep 3 cats happy and healthy to 17 years (at the youngest), and our dog is still going strong at 18 (yes, 18), so they must be doing something right.
Strongly recommended. :) -

I felt completely comfortable taking my cat to Dr. Kumar at Burbank Pet Hospital, especially after a bad experience with VCA in Santa Clara (at VCA, staff were dishonest about which vaccinations were due, even after seeing my cat's medical history, and weren't forthcoming about prices for services).
As a new cat owner, I had numerous questions about my cat's behavior and medical condition. Dr. Kumar was patient and answered all of my questions thoroughly and with understanding. He didn't push any services on me and told me what to look out for that could be a sign of a problem in the future. He and his assistant also were skilled in handling my cat; I joked with them that she's never so compliant with me at home (for example, when I'm trying to trim her claws).
There's nothing fancy about this place, but I'm more interested in quality and service than appearance, and I'll definitely return based on my experience. -

I signed up on Yelp just so I could rate Burbank Pet Hospital.
We took our cat there for several years and were very happy. I really, really like Dr. Kumar. He was very caring with our cat, great at explaining our options, patient with all my questions and nervousness about giving injections, and is just a really nice guy.
We never had any problems with our pet being returned to us in a mess - and in fact the staff would volunteer to clean up the carrier when our cat (invariably) soiled it. The staff is friendly and efficient, & you can generally get an app't within a couple of days or less. Everyone was very kind when our cat finally had to be put to sleep.
Now that we no longer have a pet, I miss going there. Yes, the decor is funky/non-existant, but the magazines are a big step above the usual waiting room fare, and all the pet pics are fun to look at.
Dr. Runyon, mentioned in the first review, has retired. -

This place is a little too rundown for me and I am surprised it rates this high on yelp due to the condition of their offices. But maybe people have lower standards of cleanliness for their pets than they do for their pediatrician or general practitioner. I was new to SJ and this was the closest vet to my place, at the time. So I brought my cat here for a couple years, and loved Dr. Fluegge - she was so nice and caring and seemed to really like my cat. She was the reason why I stayed with Burbank even as long as I did. Then we ran into a few health issues and I was not happy with the explanations and the course of action (which was "not much you can do other than pay a ton more $$ for more tests that probably won't show anything conclusive.") So that, combined with the not so great interior (old, like someones grandmother's house who had LOTS of cats/birds/dogs/guinea pigs that had been "cleaned" by dumping large amounts of bleach/pinesol/other smelly cleaning products on the floor/walls/surfaces. ick. It's small, it's dark and dingy from the street, the floor inside is in disrepair etc.) I decided to try a different vet. The vet at the new bright/sunny/clean/non-smelly/happy-place helped diagnose and treat the elusive issue and seemed much more professional and knowledgeable.
Caveat - I did see about a year ago that Burbank had some scaffolding up - perhaps they've remodeled. Let's hope so - for all the people that still give this place 3+stars. seriously? 3+? I humbly disagree. My review would have been 1 star if it weren't for Dr. Fluegge. Bottom line - you can do better - shop around. -

I came here for the first time about 1 month ago after reading a few reviews on yelp. It's not a fancy place at all. Actually it looks pretty outdated and a little sketchy, but the staff is so great that you forget about that aesthetic stuff. The receptionists are friendly over the phone and in person. Also, I was so impressed by how caring the vet was. He took the time to listen to the concerns I had about my dog and explained the plan of care very clearly. And I loved how gently he handled my dog during his examination. The services are quite reasonable and they didn't try to talk me into unnecessary procedures. The vet exam and meds cost me about $80 total and I now have a dog that is back to his normal self. I'll definitely bring Rocky here again.

My husband & I recently relocated here from FL and hadn't yet found a vet so on the day my dog Zoe had a medical emergency, I turned to Yelp for a recommendation. Fortunately the Burbank Pet Hospital came up first. Dr. Fluegge and the entire staff we met were amazing. They worked us in and took care of Zoe like she was their own. I cannot say enough about their kindness and compassion. Meeting a new vet during an emergency situation isn't how I planned to find one but I am so glad it was them that I found. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who is looking for a vet or isn't happy with the one they have.

I have worked with Dr. Kumar for ~ 9 years and he has taken EXCELLENT care of all of my dogs. He took care of my Greyhound Dancer for 8+ years and then helped me when I had to put her to sleep due to progressive bone cancer; staff was very compassionate as I had to put her to sleep almost immediately after getting the diagnosis. He currently takes care of my Italian Greyhounds Hermes and Titus and my new greyhound Perse. I love the staff there - they are VERY VERY helpful and get back to me if I have a question. They are also familiar w/ working with the hounds & their pricing is reasonable. I get Herme's dentals done by them and he has always come home fine. I will continue to use this vet for my animal needs!
