Great little comfy Italian restaurant. I found this place with friends over 10 years ago and it's been our place ever since. I've been here over 30 times and will always come back. Great food, great prices & the staff treats us like family. If your looking for a relaxed easy meal this is it.

This is a good enough restaurant in the Little Italy area, considering the high tourist quota it has to cook for.  My daughter and I ate a quick meal there after buying her a graduation gift iPad at the Soho Apple store.  We ordered a glass each of Sangria and split an Arugula Salad and the Carbonara.  May not sound like very interesting choices but my daughter was set on finding a good Carbonara.

Buona Notte didn't disappoint her.  The dish wasn't huge, but large enough for the two of us to split.  It was full of wonderfully sauteed pancetta, cream and just enough garlic.  The waiter added a few spoonfuls of freshly grated Parm and it was very nice.  The Arugula Salad wasn't very creative, seemed to be only the lettuce, onion slivers, and a oil-based dressing.  Flavorful, but not a wow.  There was plenty of crusty French bread on the side, too.  The Sangria was ok, cool enough with a few cubes of fruit.

Three stars means A-OK, and that's what Buona Notte was.  Good enough for Little Italy.

    This place stinks! AVOID.

I decided to peruse Little Italy once again while I was staying in Chinatown on business. I didn't want to walk too far so I ended up at this joint because of its appealing exterior. One of the charms of Little Italy are the little old men and the young Italians charming you to come in. You don't get there here. In fact, I was lucky if I got a smile.

Since I had a wonderful experience at an Italian restaurant in this neighborhood the night before, I had high expectations. I decided to sit outside and people watch and although a lot of people passed by, there wasn't a lot to look at so I was hoping for stellar service to outweigh this dilemma.

The service was mediocre. I was a young woman eating alone, I was hoping for a little more attention. Instead, I was met with seemingly distracted service and lots of waiters standing around speaking Spanish.

I will tell you that I only trust Italians selling an Italian joint. I sat outside watching an Asian woman selling the joint next door all evening and I wasn't impressed; I'd never eat there. That being said, this joint was being sold by a Mexican, and I felt like if I wanted a Mexican selling me Italian food, I'd have stayed in Chicago.

Needless to say I ordered a glass of wine and breaded clams. Two things about this you should know:

#1. Their wine menu is a total joke. There's like 6 selections of "by the glass" wines, all of which I wasn't fond of.

#2. If you know me (which you don't, but go with it) you know that I don't eat "just clams". I'm a pasta, dessert kinda gal. So after I had the gross clams, I decided to call it a night on this place...$24 later.

The clams weren't cleaned well and I bit into sand and grit more times than I wish to count. I hated the thin, tasteless sauce it was served with and I used to cold table bread to sop up what was left of the juice because the cold pats of butter weren't cutting it for my bread.

I would never return to this joint and would recommend others to walk a little further and try any other restaurant (minus the one being hustled by an Asian lady).

I was in the city with a large group of friends for dinner and after hours of walking around and being generally indecisive we finally found ourselves in buona notte. the staff was great, very attentive and I ordered the carbonara which just about melted in my mouth. Even after dealing with seven or eight indecisive twenty-somethings, our drinks (no one was drinking alcohol though...just teas and sodas I'm pretty sure) were comped!  Super fan, would absolutely go back.

I love the food an Buona Notte! Although they have touristy prices, they have some quality stuff!

I first came here with my mom during San Gennaro. We sat at the table right next to the window, and had a very pretty view of the feast.

I ordered a stracciatella soup and the chicken francese with a side of spaghetti. It was all really delicious. My mom ordered the fettuccine Alfredo which was also very good. I love how they don't skim on the portions, like most establishments in Little Italy.

Definitely eat here during your next trip to Little Italy!

My friends and I picked this place randomly.  We were seated promptly and the service started off great.  After we ordered, we didn't have any service until our food came 20-30 min later.  We had planned on drinking some wine, beer, etc during dinner but we weren't able to do this.

When the food came, it was mixed results.  2/5 people in our party were satisfied with the food, although it was pretty expensive. 3/5 of our party was very unsatisfied.  The portions were very small and were $17+ for pasta.

I don't mind paying a little extra for the atmosphere but I expect a decent portion and good service.

I'd skip this place in the future.

Maybe its because I just came back from Italy...but I'm pretty sure I've had better Italian food from my own kitchen.  The food was definitely just "meh".

We had the Spiedini Alla Romana  - fried mozzarella sautéed in anchovies and caper sauce,  What we got was a french toasted grilled cheese sandwich drench in caper sauce.  The sauce was nice..the "fried mozzarella" not so nice.  I ordered the Lobster Ravioli, and it was ok...again the sauce was decent but the ravioli was just ok.  My husband had the Penne Alla Boscaiola and that was pretty good, the mushrooms had a ton of flavor and it was tasty.

For what we paid for, it was not worth it.  Maybe we just ordered the wrong things...sigh.

One of my good friends was visiting NY for the first time, so I took her for a little candlelit dinner on Mulberry Street. I'm extra-romantical like that. Boys could learn from me. Though a few guys have it down---- those at Buona Notte, for instance.

We strolled along Little Italy's main stretch - hearing the 20-second blurbology of each menu, some delivered with such charm that would make any girl blush. Points for Little Italy, because charming old men are just adorable. Little old ones who offer you free sangria? Those are my favorite!!!

Forgetting the menu at the mere mention of free sangria, we skipped inside. Immediately we were presented with a basket of fresh bread, and two gargantuan glasses of pure sweet bliss.

We shared an appetizer and entree, meanwhile hoping that the restaurant wouldn't be all grrrr about us skimping on food as we happily sipped our sangria. However, just the opposite happened. The waiters were just smitten with us, and let us stretch our meal over the course of a couple hours. We ordered a second glass of sangria (did I mention that this is liquid ecstasy? Cause it is.), and had the perfect catching-up date.

Little did we know, good looking waiters are actually practicing to one day become charming little old men. The service was excellent -  every appearance was made with a dash of good conversation, charisma, and a little thing I like to call italianhottness. Our waiter brought dessert on the house .... and by dessert, I mean Kahlua.

All of our drinks were eliminating the need to move on to a bar, so we continued camping out and enjoying ours perfect evening in "Italy." When we thought we had better move on, the waiter asked us to stay if we were content, and casually refilled our Kahlua glasses.

I love that my little hour long dinner plans melted into a good three hours, at least. Every second of it was perfection, making this one of my most memorable dining experiences in New York. Cute old men, stop trying to entice me to dine at your restaurant tonight. I know where my spot is.

Okay, when a man in a fedora is ringing a silver bell and calling at you from across the street, "Hey! Over here! Best looking menu in the world!" it's hard not to be curious and see what the ol' man's got to offer. I mean, I'm in Little Italy looking for a place to eat anyway, right? Right.

So my mom and little sister, both visiting from California, and I meander over and say, "Hell yes we want a table for three." Boom. We waited for negative 3 minutes for a table right outside. If I were on a date I might have asked for a seat inside or in the "beautiful backyard garden," but the guy sold us without even showing us the menu and I'm easily entertained, so we sat outside to see him prance around a bit more.

As we ordered our glasses of homemade sangria (wow! They make it right; it's the fruit pieces at the end that'll get ya! $7) and stuffed artichoke (amazingly delicious, even if it is a little messy. $10) we watched the host/bell ringer/menu waver did his routine: "Hey! Buona Notte! Best looking menu in the world! Over here, half the price as down the street and twice as good!" Every once in a while he'd have a group looking over the menu and he'd turn to our table and ask, "Hey guys, how's the food?" We, of course, would be inclined to say "The best in the world!" This got a few laughs and sat a few more people down in the table beside us. Thankfully they were pleased with their meals as well!

As an entrée I ordered the spaghetti with "baby meatballs" ($16). My mom got rigatoni and my sister ordered fettuccine alfredo. We were all very pleased with the food and the service. The host/bell ringer/menu waver talked to us throughout the meal, making jokes as he flagged down would-be patrons; complimenting my sisters smile, my mothers eyes, and my lipstick (the spaghetti sauce). It was pretty entertaining, and I'm not sure I would have liked the restaurant so much if I hadn't gotten to see the "show"!

And I was surprised when groups of 16 and 18 came to the restaurant and were sat without reservations and without having to wait a single minute. All in all, the food was grand, the atmosphere was cheerful and boisterous, and the service was very prompt. I'm definitely going back, and it was a nice last meal before putting my mum and sis on the plane to send them back to California.

The wait staff here have two duties:  serve (food) and sell (the image) to catch those who roam Mulberry in Little Italy and getting them to comply with the "best Italian pasta deal" man has ever heard.  But once they step into the door and sit down, its a sucker session of affordability vs. authenticity.  Is the food authentic and is it affordable?  Sometimes, in both cases, no.

But this time around, I came in for a pasta deal that included a glass of wine or appetizer for only $12.95.  Consider it a poor man's prefix in the theater district, except in Little Italy.  The pasta was good, angel hair in a clam shell base was fabulous and the pappardelle carbonara was rich and well done.  Service wasn't the best as they groaned each time I mentioned I wanted tap water instead of the bottled stuff.  I saw the regular menu and the prices for some pasta dishes ranged from $20-35 which I thought was a little much, especially for something like pasta.

There are a ton of other choices around the area obviously, with deals that just may trump this one.  They tend to do it during the busy weekend nights, when people are swarming the streets, sniffing out the best place with Italian (or fake accented) wait staff looking to pry on their tourist dollars.

We were strolling down Mulberry Street trying to figure out which of the multitude of Italian places to try our luck in. This awesome little man was so funny and personable, and offered us sangria along with his witty humor, in an attempt to lure us into the establishment. Yet, he did it without desperation. Hey, I'm not above a bribe...and a bribe with alcohol? Now you're talkin'!

We still weren't sure, but damn that sangria was good... then he knocked on the window to grab the attention of other diners he'd previously talked into the restaurant-surely with that same sangria-and his charm...They all nodded their heads up and down enthusiastically with their thumbs up. Okay, we were in.

The staff was great-friendly, humorous and efficient. We ordered a pitcher of that delectable sangria. We ordered salad. We ordered appetizers. We ordered main entrees. We ordered dessert...yeah, we were stuffed. The food was awesome, and we were so pleased we listened to that little man outside. Honestly, we talked about it for days after. It was a pleasant surprise, and I would certainly make a trip back to Buona Notte next time I'm in NYC.

It's not the fanciest place in the world, but I much prefer downright good over fancy any day. Total thumbs up!

"Oh pretty miss! Oh come in here! We have a table for the two of you! Come, come, look at the menu! See... great food! Come in!"

Walking through Little Italy reminds me of walking through the Plaka in Athens (you must go there!) with the guys calling out asking your to come in. I easily could have said no to this guy but the menu did look good and affordable. So we ventured in and had a great time since dinner and service were really good.

We started with stuffed mushrooms and a HUGE glass of wine. This place is not stingy with their wine portions. The stuffed mushrooms were filled with a breading, herbs, and cheese and were covered with a generous amount of marinara sauce. The mushroom filling was good but the mushrooms were a bit rubbery, just slightly. The marinara sauce was so good. The bread made for a fantastic sponge for soaking up the left over sauce.

Splitting the gnocchi for dinner was enough for the 2 of us. The gnocchi was pillowy and was cooked perfectly. Bite after bite was pleasurable with a good pasta and flavorful sauce. Again the bread made a fine work of the remaining sauce. The sauce is absolutely fantastic so I suggest keeping with something simple like pasta or a chicken parm to get plenty of it.

Our service rounded out the great dinner. Our waiter was attentive with getting us bread, taking our order, refilling our glasses of water.

A friend and I decided to meet up for dinner and she suggested we meet in Little Italy and grab some food and relax after a stressful day. It was late summer so the weather was still nice enough to sit outside, which we did. The wait staff is very nice and they even brought out a wine chiller to keep our bottle cold. Dinner was good, but I didn't get anything to crazy, Gnocchi I think, so I can't be too critical on that. Following dinner we enjoyed another drink and sat around and chatted.

Only two things sort of bothered me while we were there.

First: Mostly just a pet peeve of mine anywhere I go, but I can't stand it when people come up to your table when you are sitting with someone and try and sell you stuff. I'M EATING. You can harass me the second I leave to buy a Fucci hand bag or a turtle in cardboard box, but when I sit at a table for dinner, I need to focus. During our dinner a man took a picture of me and my friend and then tried to sell it to us for 15 bucks. We laughed to each other, told him we were not tourists, and gave him a few bucks for the photo that was now worthless to him (not 15 mind you, but I'm not heartless either-photos cost money after all).

Second: While I agree that these cute little old men that try to get people into the restaurants are great when you are passing by, apparently sitting outside automatically makes you an assistant spokesperson for the restaurant. Being asked to respond to the sentence "Hey! Tell them how good the food is!" not once, not twice, but no less than 3 times during a meal is a little excessive.

Both of these problems possibly could have been avoided if we had sat inside, but this is New York. You get a sunny day, you take full advantage of it!

My mother lives in Alabama and insists on coming here almost every time she visits.  And while I do enjoy the food, I think my favorite part is just the atmosphere and the service.  Every time we've been the service has been fantastic, and the last time we were seated in the backyard garden area and it was quite lovely.  However I do think we may try to find a new place the next time, because if I'm going to pay that much for food, I'd rather it be really amazing versus just ok.  No hard feelings, Buona Notte!

I'd describe this place as: cute, friendly, and affordable.

We had been roaming around Canal searching for "Little Italy" but could only find Chinatown. We must have asked half a dozen people before we finally found it! And Buona Notte was the first restaurant up Mulberry street that we saw. As unfamiliar visitors to this part of NY, the legendary man with the fedora roped us in showing us the menu and offering free sangria. He also aptly knew that I was vegetarian (even though I didn't say anything) so that was amusing.

We ordered the fried mozzarella (sorry, don't know the italian names--forgot them!), stuffed mushrooms, gnocchi, and the penne w/ mushrooms and sundried tomatoes for our dishes. Everything was pretty tasty and I filled up fast. One note, the bread they serve as a side was below-par though. But no biggie.

The waiters were friendly and joked around with us a few times. It was a good experience and a good night. But not sure if I'm coming back, only for the reason that it is a bit out of the way. It wasn't THAT good.

First off, I had gone on a weekday, a Thursday to be exact, which is close to the weekend.  Of course Chinatown is known for its tremendous tourism attractions of LV bags, watches and restaurants.

At Buona Notte, there is a little man who jumps around like a monkey in order to get your attention.  I could have definitely mistaken him for someone begging for spare change.  On that Thursday, he was wearing a Fedora with a feather attached to it.  The marketing technique was to be aggressive and use words such as "best", "fresh", and "table for (insert number here)?"  The quick assumption of "table for (insert number  here)" catches many people off guard when they look at the menu.

We were greeted by the waiter and were given bread.  I must say, if I did not have teeth, I would have had to dip the bread in wine until it became soggy.  Yes, the bread's texture was rough and hard like a brick.  I don't know how they keep their breads in the kitchen, probably just like their wine, aged.

When we walked in, there were three people sitting down.  It was empty.  We contemplated about leaving to go to the restaurant next door because it was turning tables.  We decided against our will and stayed for our original dinner.

Being Asian American, I was not carded for ordering wine.  You're wondering why is this?  This is because Asian's have been noted for looking young and therefore I would get carded for going to a Rated-R movie.  However, understanding that their prices are inflated, they needed every bit of money to help them sustain during the week.

I had ordered Penne with tomato sauce that was sauteed with hot peppers.  I did not get the hint of peppers.  But, the great thing was that the sauce was useful for the bread that I had aged 10 minutes longert.  My girlfriend ordered Gnocchi and it looked freshly made.  The sauce was bland, but the Gnocchi was filling.

I had also ordered a Cesare Salad and it was good.  The lettuce was fresh (okay, he got me on the fresh part) and the sauce was creamy.

After the meal, we were asked if we wanted dessert.  I had said no and he said oh, okay.  Then he asked if I wanted another glass of wine and I said no and he just gave me a look of defeat.  Although I get 'buzzed' pretty quickly, I'll watch how I spend my money and that isn't to help you boost your sales.

To the waiter and owner of the restaurant, your food is good, but the guy outside can be scary sometimes.  At least he told us nicely to come back again.

But hey, I can't judge too harshly.  The weekday is not comparable to the weekend.

Keywords:  Garden at the back seems cute, comfortable, value for money  just OK, family, loud fun place

So, this place was picked by some friends, I believe it was a random choice.  From the outside it is kinda cute, the decor hmm their garden is very cute, perfect for a private party if they give it out.

Also I have to mention that I don't particularly like when a restaurant has a guy dressed up in an oldish, dirty suit trying to suck people in.  Just the idea makes me question the place.  But since we were joining people there, and the place looked OK otherwise, we went ahead.

Very energetic waiters, like they super busy, they probably were.

    So here's the dish  -

Antipasti appetizer - so so, salami was hard as a rock, peppers, artichoke and cheese were ok.

I think this place is good for its pastas.  I tried to be adventurous and did the steak with mushrooms and wine something sauce.  DO NOT FOLLOW MY ACTIONS!  Stay away from the steak - Priced at $25 (cheapest steak there), its not worth it.  Not one bit.

The lasagna was good, the fettucini Alfredo, ravioli and spaghetti and meatballs looks good from across my spot.  Almost forgot.  The sangria was good, I wasn't looking for a potent drink and this wasn't.  I did hear a complaint that it wasn't spiked enough, worked fine for me though.

Now they deserve one positive comment right?  Tiramisu was phenomenal.  I mean fluffy, not too sweet, just perfect.  I could have gulped down the entire thing, but we were doing the whole whatchamacallit - 'sharing' i believe?

Will only go back for dessert, if at all.

This place is "A- OK" as Yelp puts it.   Food was good, loved the service.  Small little ambiance and very friendly wait staff.

Didn't care for the Italian pop music but I'm more of a traditional kinda fan.  I can't be too picky- to each his own.

I ordered the seafood salad and chicken parm- so I didn't go to far out on a limb.

You can judge an italian restaurant by the quality of their gravy- I wish I had more on my plate, which must mean I liked it so I give Buono Notte the thumbs up.

Not the greatest but if your in the neighborhood I'd recommend it.

I rarely would consider dining at a Italian place in Little Italy mainly because there's just too many restaurants with hagglers trying to make you dine at their restaurant  and way too many tourist. This place was chosen by a friend for his moving out of the country dinner and to my surprise the food was pretty dang good (sorry had to go there)!! We were seated in the back garden away from the crowds which for those looking for a bit of a romantic dinner this wouldn't be a bad place to go (unfortunately it didn't work so well that night since we were a big group and mostly likely took away that atmosphere for the couples dining by us!). The only downside of the night was it took awhile for our espresso, but if your ever in the mood for Italian and by Little Italy this wouldn't be a bad place to consider amongst the hordes of other Italian places.

Sucked in by the greatest sales person on the face of the planet, we walked into Buona Notte. After about five minutes, I realized that we were targeted along with the rest of the tourists in the area, but I didn't mind because I was cold and hungry. I ordered a glass of Merlot, which was terrible. Great salad. Good, but average gnocchi. Nice looking waiter. All in all, it was just okay. Would I eat there again? Eh, maybe. I spent under $30.00 without tip.

Decent and reasonably-priced food plus a lower-end wine list for us 'non-wine' people make this my favorite Little Italy spot.  There are a lot of choices in this area, and it's hard to pick one, but I've never gone wrong at Buona Notte.

I am having trouble writing an un-biased review since I've been going here for the last 10 years and this restaurant has so much history for me.

Unfortunately, I feel like this restaurant has gone from amazing to just average.    The food is still solid (like every restaurant on mulberry)  but it is no longer spectacular.  It bothers me that the wait staff is always way to preoccupied with turning tables.

If you can swing it, try to sit in the backyard terrace.

We have been here twice and both times were excellent! The prices are a smidge high, especially since you don't even get pasta with your Chicken Sorrentine or Chicken Parmigiana (which is what we ordered for lunch), but the food quality is excellent!

I'm so exited to be the first to review this great restaurant! The food was great- as you walk around this area you will realize theirs a lot of competition. If you want Italian food in NY this is where you need to go! The reason we came here was because they had this waiter bringing people singing and making the place really lively- he was telling everyone to come and eat and If the didn't like the food you weren't entitled to pay. We came here really not knowing and we honestly stumbled upon a great Italian location. My boyfriend had the Marinara Lobster Angel Hair Pasta- it was fantastic and i had the minestrone soup and it was also wonderful. We had a nice bottle of red wine and we happened to sit next to some older woman that basically had dinner and drinks with us. For being our last meal in NY I couldn't of asked for anything more.

We stopped by about 4pm for appetizers and wine.  We sat out on the terrace where we were entertained by the maitre d' as he lured people into the restaurant with his wit and charm.  We had wonderful Monte Maria Chianti and antipasto.  Great ambiance, food and drink.  We will definitely be back!

Situated in the heart of Little Italy, Buona Notte, like its neighboring restaurant, mostly caters to tourists.  I came for a birthday party of 8 in which the birthday girl, new to New York, wore a Statue of Liberty crown throughout the entire dinner.  If Buona Notte wants tourist to eat at their restaurant, they got one.  The service was quick and friendly, and everyone was pleased with their meals.  The only reason Buona Notte gets 3 stars is due to the competition of Italian restaurants in New York, and to be honest, there is just better out there.

It was the clash of a falling sign that drew our attention and got us to eat here. The atmosphere is pretty simple, nothing to write home about. Although, the mirrors in the place were a little freaky; they made us think there was more extended space in the place! Very convincing. Anyway, the food is standard Italian fare and tasted good enough. The prices are reasonable as well. The wine selection could have been better, but the one we chose was pretty tasty. I've had better Italian cuisine out there and on a street like Mulberry, it's hard to really say that this competes as one of the best.

My friend and I were going to check out this flashy looking restaurant across the street, but they didnt a menu outside (which I don't like lol) and so we crossed the street and the aforementioned man in the fedora was outside, telling us that we should come inside and of course at first we were skeptical, but then he began to serenade us. And then he offered us two free half glasses of sangria. And we were sold. The waitstaff was courteous and attentive and we both enjoyed the food. I wouldn't mind going back.

The first time I came here, I went because they had the cheapest plate on the block. Since then, I've been back multiple times and am always impressed! Great food and great service! The fettucine alfredo is my personal favorite! Whenever I have friends in town, this is my go-to place. And ask the man in the Godfather hat who welcomes everyone in about his story sometime...he's awesome.

A friend and I went to Little Italy and this happened to be the first place we stopped and looked at a menu at.  Everything looked delicious and the staff that were outside were very friendly and inviting.  The waiter was very friendly and accommodating.  The other wait staff were also very helpful and seemed to be on top of refilling our drinks etc.  I ordered Fettucini Alfredo and it was fantastic.  i know my friend enjoyed everything just as well.  I'm really looking forward to going back!

This is my 1st Yelp Review. This place was So good i just had to share. Well.. It was our last night visiting so we wanted a nice, cozy italian dinner. My friend mentioned that he saw this listed somewhere. Of course, the cute older italian man was outside and persuaded us in. The White Sangria is the BEST! Love it! I'm not a big fan of clams, but wanted to give it a try, I had the Clams with Linguine and white sauce. It was SO good, i was surprised. We had a couple glasses of sangria, wine, everything we had was delicious. Service was great, prices were decent, portions were good, and the Food Was YummmmY! I wil definately go back on my next trip!

I've been to this place three times over the past several years, and the first two times the food was wonderful, staff helpful and fun, atmosphere romantic and relaxing. My date and I walked in there recently and it was like Jekyll and Hyde. The appetizers were soggy, tasteless and rubbery, main dishes nothing to write home about, and the service was all over the place. Wrong food delivered to numerous tables while we were there, very little attention at our own table. I overheard someone at the next table talking about how it has changed, and we started a conversation. She used to go there all the time and agreed that it had changed. So we inquired with the waiter and found out the ownership has changed hands. Whomever owns it now knows very little about Italian food or ambiance. I was VERY disappointed, as it was a special birthday dinner, and I was looking forward to it with anticipation. I almost want to say that the Olive Garden would be better - and you wouldn't catch me dead in THAT place.
