Anyone familiar with New York City knows about the great Italian restaurants that each neighborhood has.  Family-run and with food that tastes home-made, where the staff welcomes you like long-lost cousin.

Buon Gusto is such a place, but located in a tiny strip-mall in Mission Hills (north end of the San Fernando Valley on Devonshire, just off the 405).  Anything on this menu is good: between myself and friends who've eaten there over the years we have had most of the menu items and everything we have tried has been tasty.  Their chicken soup ("Pastina en Brodo" sp?) is the best I've had in the Valley, even beating Brent's and Abe's chicken soup.  A good representative of their other dishes, this soup is clearly based on home-made chicken stock (no cans here!).

This is a -great- place when you want to go out for a quiet dinner, but don't want anything too schmancy or too bleah (think: Coco's or Mimi's).  I'd call it no-brainer Italian: even on the busiest nights of the week the wait is short or non-existant (thanks to being tucked in a quiet corner of Mission Hills).  Tired of 45+ minute waits for Claim Jumper or other pop-fooderies?  Check out Buon Gusto for a delicious, quiet evening of food and wine.

My cousin and I decided to try this Buon Gusto last year after constantly passing it by on our way to our local Starbucks hang out....

So, one Sunday afternoon we hit up Buon Gusto. Right away when we entered we were greeted with a big friendly smile by the hosted and immediately seated to our table. The interior is very relaxing; very homey. From the tables, lighting and the decor, I felt like I was at my grandmothers house.

I tried the Chicken Lasagna ($11.99) and a glass of their house Merlot ($8.95). The lasagna was flawless, I loved it. Perfectly balanced moisture and flavor. I typically usually like my lasagna salty but this just hit the spot. In addition, the house Merlot was also pretty good. Definitely worth all the cost.

They have a pretty good wine selection here for an Italian restaurant in Granada Hills.

As we were almost done with our meal, the owner came around and asked how our food was etc. Very friendly. He made his rounds to say hello to every table.

This Italian restaurant is a great place for Sundays after church or just maybe an evening dinner with a date. If you don't want to travel to far and want to stick around the Granada Hills area, this place is definitely it.

Consistently friendly service and good food make this a likely choice when we are looking for a relaxing meal out.  Entrees come with a choice of soup or salad.  Their soups are homemade (and the mushroom soup is the best I've tasted in a restaurant).  I've been told that if I give them at least an hour notice, as long as they are not too busy, they will special make the mushroom soup for me, even when it is not their soup of the day.
