Such an elegant italian restaurant in the heart of the Bonita community.
I love the atmosphere, and the waitors are hotties! ;)
I was in a very large group for my show choir banquet, and they offer a party room for a private dining experience.
I had the ravioli with pesto, YUM!
Anyway, I would definitely come back again! -

Buon Giorno is, by far, the best fine-dining restaurant I've found anywhere in south county. And that's after living and dining here for more than 5 years.
As soon as you enter, you know you're in for a treat. The host is not just a random new-hire from the local high school, but rather an accomplished waiter and manager, who underwent years of schooling in restaurant service at the finest training schools in Europe before honing his craft in the New York dining world and eventually coming to Buon Giorno as the manager.
Once seated, you are presented with an extensive menu of a wide variety of Italian offerings. Odds are, you will be torn between at least 2 or 3 selections, if not more. Every single item on the menu sounds absolutely incredible.
Also of note is a fair selection of cocktails and a sizable wine list to suit any palate.
For this particular visit, my wife had one of the specials, a seafood trio of shrimp, scallops, and lobster ravioli with a creamy lobster sauce. I too had a special, a baked quail stuffed with italian sausage and accompanied by cheese ravioli, all with a port wine reduction sauce. Both dishes left us completely amazed, and we are still talking about how perfectly the tastes blended together to work their culinary magic on every one of our senses.
Our appetizer, the fried calamari, was also significantly noteworthy for its very light taste and texture, which, when combined with a slight amount of fresh-squeezed lemon and a dip in the marinara sauce, is quite good.
Even the bread offered before the meal is very good, and is better than what you'll find at most restaurants.
There's no reason that this restaurant should not be considered amongst the best in all of San Diego, and it's certainly not to be overlooked.Listed in: Calamari Quest

This is a great date restaurant. I didn't come here on a date, though, because I don't date. I came here w/ 3 other people that were too embarassed to pronounce anything on the menu, so I had to order everyone's food. It's slightly more pricey , but definitely worth the experience.
1) The service leaves you feeling you're of the upmost importance.
2) The Tortellini de Parmi was delicious. cheese/spinach filled w/ a mushroom cream sauce. Too good to even put into words.
3) The atmosphere inside is romantic, elegant, but still understated.
4) They play some low-key jazz in the other room. Not so loud that you can't enjoy conversation, though.
5) Creme Brulee and Chocolate Cake = the best. You won't even need milk w/ your cake. Perfect balance.
6) All the booze you want.
And, then when you're done, you can go look at the dinosaurs on the sidewalk here on Bonita Rd -- they're in front of this shopping center...you know, to bring you back to reality.Listed in: I Love Pizza.

I'm not a big calamari fan. I choked on it once when I was younger. I really have to like what I'm eating if it happens to be squid. Man oh man is the calamari here good. It's just lightly breaded with the right amount of salt. You'll know what I mean if you order it.
I've only been here three times, and all three meals were equally good. Anything seafood with pasta is good. And they have really really good ravioli. Its not that cheap stuff from Costco that some restaurants serve.
And their chocolate cake. Mmmm....chocolaty goodness. The best. -

Sad day for South Bay, this restaurant has closed. :(

Oh this is a South SD gem, my husband and I (and friends) have been visiting, when we can ($$), for the past 5 years. It's got an old world, piano bar vibe, the waiters here obviously take the time to know the food they are serving and take great care to make sure you have a lovely dinner, no rush, and that you are always comfortable. The lighting is low and romantic and the placement of the tables in the space somehow lends to the intimate atmosphere.
To start, we love the Fritto Misto which is the lightly breaded, deep fried selection, zucchini, shrimp, calamari, and artichoke or the Antipasto. Even though I have no love for tomato, we get the Caprese and my husband humors me by consuming the tomato for me. Pasta, I love the Ravioli di'Aragosta which has crab and lobster and has the most sublime creamy lobster sauce, but I also love the Risotto Gamberreti (Don't know if that's spelled right I can't remember the whole name) which is a lovely risotto with shrimp and artichokes. There is a good meat and seafood selection, the Pollo alla Diavola is good.
Good wine list and great cocktails (which you can enjoy while listening the the piano if you're waiting for a table). Out door seating is available as well.
They have lovely desserts and coffee to end the evening with, they'll bring the selection out to your table when you're ready, to tempt you visually. It's almost a shame to share... -

Wow, first of all, I feel bad ruining their 5 star run. So I am willing to say 4.5 and this is mostly based off of the food we had. It was a service thing that lost the half star, our server was (I hope) just having an off night. We went on a Tuesday night so it was slow. Only 2 other tables were seated, so that made a total of 6 people. It looked like there might have been two servers but ours was a younger guy.
So we never got a bread basket, ever, throughout the whole meal, although I saw them at other tables. We asked for water and I asked for coffee as well. We got one water and one coffee. Never got refilled until we asked for refills and a second water.
But the food was good. We tried the crab cakes, calamari, cesar salad, the cheese ravioli and shrimp, and I had bacon wrapped scallops over risotto. All very tasty with decent portions. Dinner came to about $82 which is about the norm with what we ordered. So for the south bay, this was a good restaurant. Would I pick them over some of the places in Hillcrest, Northpark, or even Gaslamp? No. But I would try them again to see if the service ups the experience. -

in high school, my number one (male) partner in crime was a boy named caleb. caleb worked here for many years, and it was here, really, that he developed a love for food that eventually led to him deciding to become a chef and heading east to attend the culinary institute. had it not been for that, he would have spent the rest of his days skateboarding and smoking, trying to figure out what to do. i'm grateful, and i'm sure he is, too, that he figured out what to do.
delicious food, too. -

As good as any of the best Italian restaurants I have gone to. The Calamari at Buon Giorno probably ranks in the top 5 best that I have ever had. Friendly service, good wine list, excellent food. What more could you want? Apparently they have live music on the weekend. We went on a Tuesday night, so we'll have to go back!

Always drive past this place but had no idea how WONDERFUL it is inside. The ambiance is so romantic. The waiters are so friendly and helpful. A friend and I originally were planning to go to Jalisco cafe but it was closed already. We challenged each other to fast for 24 hours so this would be our last meal for 24 hours. Anyways we wanted to try something different it was a decision between Colima's next door or this place we decided to go here and it was a good decision. Colima's is good too, but its good to just try something different. I was feeling awkward though because it's a kind of place where you would have a romantic dinner with wine and etc, but we were dressed in our gym clothes and totally not trying to be romantic. But even though the service was great, the food was awesome, and the most importantly the company I was with was entertaining. I recommend this place if you want to have a great romantic italian meal. This place offers it all. I am so glad we dropped in, but next time I totally have to dress up for this place to suit it better. Oh and by the way, we survived our 24 hour food fast it was difficult but doable!
