I am a huge fan of Buon Appetito. For the price, the pizza is one of the better ones in JC. I still prefer Paulus Hook Brick Oven, but it is way too expensive. So instead, I usually go with BA.
Now what really sets B.A apart is its sandwiches. The Italian subs are nothing short of outstanding. I added 2 pics of the Italian sub I got tonight for dinner. It is 18 inches of deliciousness and exactly what an Italian should be. The bread is perfectly crusty, not too hard, and the cold cuts are of a very high quality. This monster has to be at least 5lbs of Italian...well let's just say, putting this much in your mouth at once will make any man/woman feel dirty, but blush with delight. -

the food from here is decent, but delivery is SO UNGODLY SLOW. I've ordered from here a few times, and it's always slow, but tonight it took -- no joke -- an hour and a half to get here and the "hot sandwich" was cold to the touch, had obviously been sitting out for a the full hour and a half. I called them, and they tried to say it was all the delivery driver's fault. not cool. as if they've had a deluge of orders on tuesday night. i understand shit happens, but i'd expect they'd at least call and warn you it's going to be an hour and half, especially when you pre-pay.
definitely check out pizza masters instead - the food is way better and they come so fast! -

I pop in here for a slice every now and then. The pizza is nothing special, but it's decent enough. The slices are large, well topped, and cheap. $2.50 for a one-topping pizza. That's all good in my book. Just because I live in/around NYC doesn't mean I think every slice has to be the best slice. I can't always be in the city or Hoboken. I don't always have access to the 'best' slice. This place serves just fine in my book.
They offer a number of other menu items, but I've only had the pizza.Listed in: Reviews

I was actually impressed the Buon Appetito - we only ordered from here once but we will definitely order again. Delivery was fast and efficient. Prices are pretty reasonable.
We got the White Pie which was tasty, not overly heavy on garlic like a lot of places make it. Super thin crust which was good. The Buon Appetito Antipasto Salad was delicious and full of meats, cheeses and marinated veggies. For under $8 that's a perfect appetizer for at least 2-3 people. Next time I'll try some of their sandwiches, as their menu is pretty diverse and seems to have options for everyone. -

I wanted to treat myself to some delivery on a Sunday movie day and I haven't been to Buon Appetito in a while. My bf and I decided to split the trukey with fresh mutz and roasted peppers and a chicken parm hero since I am on the hunt for the chicken parm hero. This place definitely IS not the place. However, the chicken parm was good. The turkey sandwich on the other hand thought was extremely large and in charge wasn't my favorite. The sandwich was just really dry and lacked any sort of flavor. I am assuming a lot of that came from the lack of flavor in the mozz. It's true, that mozz was freshly made but, lacked a certain salty flavor.
A few pros: The delivery was fast and the sandwiches are cheap and I could use http://delivery.com which, is always a good thing since I can pay for it all online and not have to talk to anyone. Overall, I think I will continue to be on a quest for my favorite parm hero. I'll definitely give this place a whirl when I'm looking for pizza and let y'all know how it goes.... -

Like Alex S said - their vodka sauce is awesome. So delicious. We've bought it by the quart and made pasta at home. Other favorites of mine: The Buon Appetito Special - pie with their vodka sauce, fresh mozz, and shrimp (yes, it sounds a little strange but its soooooo good!), eggplant parm, garlic bread, and their pizza in general.

Being housebound for the last 3 months has given us an opportunity to test out just about every delivery place in our area. Italian food is the most common option, and Buon Appetito has definitely risen to the top of the short list for sandwiches and salads! The sandwiches are fresh and piled with meats (we always share the salami, proscuitto, capicola, fresh mozz & sundried tomatoes). Delivery is always timley and I don't think they have ever forgotten an item -- but, they do often ignore instructions (such as adding sundried tomatoes to a sandwich). The weird part is that they will follow through with half of what is requested (on http://www.delivery.com there is a section for special instructions, so whatever is written there). Regardless, we like their food (we refer to the afore mentioned sandwich as "THE sandwich") and the prices are reasonable.

Yupyupyupyup, good stuff. Exactly what I'm looking for in a neighborhood pizza joint. Cheap, delicious and huge slices. The icing on the cake? Their vodka sauce.
Buying for a crowd? They have a giant 28" pizza. You'll look ridiculous carrying the box around, but you'll be happy when you're full on 2 slicezos. -

My favorite slice in Downtown JC. Slices are big, just the right thin-ness, and a bit salty, which is a plus for me.
Also, they sell big boxes of Italian cookies for just $5, and they are delicious! You might assume they wouldn't be good because you don't know how long they've been sitting there, they're not baked in house, etc., but they were just the right amount of sweet and had the powdery/crumbly texture I love in a bakery cookie. -

I was'nt expecting much when i first saw the place. I stopped here for dinner and left very satisfied. Buon Appetito is a pizza/deli/ hot food joint on Grove near the Path station. There's a few tables for dine-in.
I had eggplant parm with a side of pasta. Nice size portion And the food was good. I liked their sauce. The others had penne vodka, salad and calamari......everyone was happy and satisfied with their meals. Nice stop if your in the area. -

More please! It's freezing outside and I don't feel like cooking or going out. We ordered through SeamlessWeb and it took about an hour for our food to arrive. It snowed today and I'm sure they were swamped with deliveries. I expect that their delivery time is better in better weather.
Now let's get to the fun part: FOOD! For about $37.50 including tip, we ordered shrimp parmagiana hero, shrimp parmagiana with pasta, salad, cheesecake, and tirimisu. Everything (and I mean it) was delicious!! Fresh mozzarella in the salad, jumbo well seasoned shrimp in the parmagiana, free bread, rich desserts. I'm in heaven and there's still food left for tomorrow.
Thank goodness for this place! I'll definitely be ordering again. -

The pizza here is so good!! I love the thin crisp crust, and the fresh cheese, basil, and sliced tomatoes. This is old school Italian Pizza.
It's not dripping with cheap cheese. Instead it dabbled with fresh balls of mozzarella. -

If you are in the Grove Street area and craving a slice, this is a go to spot.
As others have mentioned, the slices are very big! The pizza has been good anytime I stopped in.
I tried the chicken parm sandwich the other night and while it was good, I found it a bit underwhelming. It wasn't a "heavy" sandwich for the price that I paid. I've gotten bigger sandwichs for less at other spots.
Not much else to write here. Kind of a no frills spot, but with great big pizza slices. -

My fiancee and I really enjoy this place. Always great food. When I am craving some good Italian food for delivery, I crave this place. Everything I've had I have enjoyed. Below is a list of the dishes that I or my finacee have had:
-Baked Ziti: Always love it. Sometimes I get sausage added to it. It is great either way.
-Chicken Parmesan: Very very good. We've enjoyed this several times.
-Penne/Rigatoni alla Vodka: Also very good. My fiancee really loves this.
-Chicken Rollatini: I've gotten this once. It was extremely good. I was hesitant at first about the Marsala sauce that it comes with, but it worked really well, and I really liked it.
-Pasta Primavera with chicken: I really like this, but I like it better when I get it with marinara sauce rather than what it comes with if you don't ask. The veggies were good and it tasted nice and lite.
-Shrimp Parmesan: I had this for the first time last night. I also thought this was very good. I was very happy after finishing my food. It hit the spot.
-Grilled Chicken Cesear Salad: My finacee loves this dish. It comes with a very generous portion of grilled chicken. The grilled chicken is really good quality and tastes awesome.
-Italian Chicken Salad: I got this once, and I also really liked it. I don't usually order salads for my meal, but I was very happy with this one. Delicous chicken and nice mixture of peppers, mozzarella, etc.
-Pasta Bolognese: Awesome as well. Very good.
Like I said, I have really liked everything that I have ordered from here. When I have been to the actual store to pick up my food, the place is always very busy. The staff always seem very friendly. Although I have never tried their pizza, it looks good, and I see a lot of people ordering it.
Also, I am big on portion sizes (I get very disappointed with small portion sizes), and this place gives me the right portion size that I'm looking for. They also give you bread with your meal.
Although there are better Italian places out there that have freshly made pasta, etc., I think you can't go wrong with this place if you want some great Italian food and at a great price! I will definitely be ordering from here many more times in the future. -

I think it's safe to say I'm officially obsessed with the food here. Chicken cutlet sandwich, with mozzarella, roasted red peppers and balsamic - AMAZING. Their slices of pizza are larger than my head, and they always seem to have white pizza on hand, which I love, and it's so good. Not dry, not too garlicky. Buffalo chicken wing pizza? L.O.V.E.
I'm contemplating just getting a part time job here so I can eat their food all the time. And the vodka sauce still rocks my world every time.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Surprisingly AWESOME! Got take-out from here twice and I've gotta say there's nothing wrong with anything that we ordered from the kitchen.
- The sandwiches were yummy (and wrapped correctly so they didn't leak in transit).
- The wings are also great (both with and without the hot sauce)
- The delivery was fast.
- The prices were quite good for the portion sizes (very large and filling)
- And the most amazing part - $3 for a very large tiramisu that was DELICIOUS! I would guess that they make it fresh, but let me tell you, this is one deal that is too good to pass up!
I'm looking forward to going physically to the restaurant at some point (and hopefully updating my rating to 5 stars if the place matches the awesomeness of the delivery), but until then, I can only dream about their food (since I've moved out of JC). *tear -

A favorite for delivery. They have some of the best pizza in the neighborhood...and a very interesting house pie (vodka sauce, fresh mozzarella, and shrimp) which I quite like. Their entrees are tasty, though they stand out more for their pizza, and their vodka sauce, for which they are somewhat famous (and they will sell you their sauces for you to use at home).
Stop in for a slice, order a pie, you'll be happy. -

Extremely reliable and consistent. I pick up food from here fairly regularly, and I have been generally satisfied. I have tried a number of the pasta dishes (the pasta with sausage & broccoli rabe is particularly good). Major points for offering whole wheat penne as one of their options, so I can maintain the delusion that I'm eating healthily. Huge portions, so it's really two meals, making it quite the bargain. I have found their garlic bread to be a bit aggressive on the garlic front, so be warned; that's a matter of taste, so I just don't order it, and meals come with regular bread anyway. I have enjoyed their pizza (love the white pizza with ricotta & broccoli) and a couple of eggplant parm subs (decadent, but you only live once), but for me it's mostly about their pasta dishes.

(for delivery) Ok nothing special. I read all of the reviews so thought i would check it out. I ordered the Mozzarella sticks and vodka penne pasta.
The pasta lacked flavour and was pretty sickly. I know this sounds awful, but it reminded me of vomit. After my first few bites, I had to put it far from me. Not good.
The mozzarella sticks were nice. A little soggy and the cheese had hardened by the time it was delivered. The marinara sauce was very watered down and not good.
Best thing was the coca cola i ordered.. it was from a can. -

What can I say? Giant slices of pizza, a huge garden salad and copious amounts of mushrooms (per my request)...one cannot go wrong with this kind of loveliness on a cold Friday night. Cheep, close to the train and convenient. Who can ask for anything more?? (well, don't answer that...but you know what I mean...)

My husband and I love ordering food from here via SeamlessWeb. Tired weeknights become magical when you have food at your door that is tasty, good-proportioned, and not too expensive.
We love the chicken parm pizza, any of the chicken entrees with tortellini, their vodka sauce, the garden salad (comes with olives and onions, mini-mozz balls, and tomatoes), and the cannoli is amazing. Amazing because its delivery and the pastry shell isn't a soft mess, but crisp - so it means they pipe it when you order it. -

I've been ordering lunch from here for about 3 years. Last week, I ordered 2 veal parm subs for myself & a coworker. They delivered chicken parm. In the past, I have put up with occasional late deliveries, but the food was never cold, so it was OK. This time, though, I got the impression that the "mistake" was intentional. I'll give them one more chance.

Pizza slices are HUGE, YUMMY, THIN CRUST AND PERFECTLY BAKED with a perfect amount of sauce and cheesey goodness!
I am soo pleased, got 3 slices to go and they were still hot when i walked home :) Their garlic knots are pretty good too, nice and fresh!
I ate two slices and i am practically done eating for the day, it was soo good! Also, ive had their cannolis from here, they were not so fresh, but the filling was phenomenaL! -

Ordered the "extra large" pie on a drunken Friday night, under the guise that it would be my "food shopping" for the weekend. Delivery was fast, but I tripped while holding the box and became trapped under the massive structure. I tried to eat my way out but I wasn't freed until my roommates came home on Sunday. Despite losing a leg from the lack of blood circulation, I regret nothing and would order again.

The first time I ordered, the service was excellent, the fresh mozzarella and chicken sandwich was great and huge for $8, and the antipasto was decent as well.
This time, the delivery guy couldn't find my address, YELLED at me on the phone (he barely spoke english) and was a total a-hole when he got here, I was so mad with his attitude i gave the money to him and shut the door after he rudely asked for the receipt back and to change my address on the form (there was nothing wrong with my address the last delivery from there was fine)
While the food and mostly the service is decent, I am never ordering from there again because of that experience, or at least making sure that guy isn't bringing me my food!! -

Life on the Seamless Web is starting to get to me. But on the bright side, I don't have to go too far to get my food.
Let me preface this by saying the only reason why this place gets three stars is because I've never been here in person, so I can't make any statements about decor, ambiance, and whether its a good date place or not. What I CAN tell you is that this place is affordable and the food is worth every penny and then some.
Tonight's meal:
Appetizer: Buffalo Wings
Entree: Pasta Bolognese
I'll comment on these particular items first since they're freshest on my palette.
The Pasta Bolognese is good, even though it doesn't seem to be a traditional bolognese. I'm not Italian, I can't say its authentic or make comparisons to my mother's sauce or my grandmother's sauce, but its good. To me, it seems like this dish is pasta with a very meaty a la vodka sauce. Its a bit orangy in color, so definitely has a good amount of cream mixed in. Not complaining. I think it's served with Cavtelli pasta so its folded surface area really picks up the sauce and gives you a burst of flavor with each mouthful.
The Wings, I ate them without the hot sauce. Only because I'm lazy. If you order via Seamless Web, they deliver the wings with the hot sauce and the ranch/blue cheese dipping sauce on the side. If you want to mix it up, go right ahead. For a lazy bum like myself, that was an invitation to eat lightly salted fried chicken. Surprisingly, the wings are really good without any sauce. The saltiness in the batter gives it a depth of flavor, and the meat is nice and juicy and comes off the bone. It's like a diamond in the rough! Totally recommend that you try one wing plain the next time you order, and then you can decide whether you want to eat it with sauce or not.
Anyway, other items I've tried are the chicken parm, fairly standard but good bang for the buck... and the garlic bread. It's $3 but they fill up one of those round tins with HEAVY garlic sprinkled over it. Its got vampire killing strength. But hey, if you like garlic, its pretty damn good too. -

I'm a sucker for a $2 plain slice that's nearly the length of my forearm but the ricotta with spinach is really my go to. Get it with some fresh garlic on top. Yum!
Cheap, crispy (get a reheated slice instead of one fresh out of the oven and it'll be even crispier), LARGE, super thin, and great service at the counter. The plain is spot on and although my friends like the buffalo chicken slice I think it could be hotter.
Throw a drink in and it's all around $5. You can't lose here. :) -

I did not receive my gatorade with my order. When I called the restaurant and asked them to bring it, they said they're busy and would give me a credit.
That would be great if it wasn't for the fact that I'm sick and actually needed a gatorade. I don't care if you're busy or not, get the order right.
Because they wouldn't bring a $2.50 gatorade, they lost any future business. -

good reliable pizza. not that easy to find really. but this stuff is good. the rest of the menu does have hits and misses on it, some pastas are good, some are so-so. some sandwiches are quite good, others are ok. but, in a world where good pizza is not that easy to find, 4 stars it is. 3.5 is probably the most realistic, but the guys in there are also nice, and that helps
Have to give props to their italian sandwich. just so goodl. i like mine with a little mayo on it as well as ov and oregano..but it is absolutely delicious. -

The pasta our order came with was 90% undercooked. How do u screw that up when you're an Italian restaurant?! We're boiling water now to finish the job the chefs at Buon Apetito could not. Never ordering from here again.

Ordered in from these guys last night. Yum!
I've never seen the place, or visited the retail location, but my sister said their deli sandwiches were pretty good and boy, was she on point!
The guys are really friendly on the phone and patiently answered my multiple questions during the busy hour. Delivery was timely.
The prices are very reasonable, and the food and ingredients were fresh.
I'll definitely be ordering from this location again. -

Ordered a pizza on a Saturday night around 8:30 and they said 45 minutes....by 9:40 it hadn't arrived and when I called to check they hadn't put our order in and said it would leave in 15 minutes...meaning we wouldn't get it till well after 10 pm. They didn't even apologize or offer a discount for their mistake. It was my first time calling this place...next time I will stick to the expensive Paulus Hook brick oven place since at least I know they'll actually make our pizza. So disappointed!!

It's my go to order for take out. The pizza is good. The deli sandwiches are HUGE and DELICIOUS. It's been years since I've found a place that makes a proper sub. The bread the sandwiches are on and the amount of meat to cheese to toppings ratio is perfect. The mozzarella sticks are the generic sticks but the marina sauce is why I order them, it's fantastic. And finally the wings are good. I really like how crispy they are and am a fan of having the hot sauce on the side when I order them so they are not all soggy when they arrive.
The con is the salads are not good. I wouldn't order a salad from here again. But a sub, pizza, or wings are great and the price is right on for the quality. Highly recommend. -
Review from Craige M.
I'm sitting here at work, eating my leftover grilled chicken parmesan from Buon Appetito and man is it delicious. It's all about the sauce. The sauce is excellent.
This is not a place where you go to sit down and eat. You order from them only. There is zero ambiance, which is unfortunate because they make some great pasta and they are so close to the Grove St. PATH, so they would be a great option for people on their way home from work to stop in for a quick dinner.
You might say, well yeah, but they probably do most of their business on the pizza delivery. And that may be true, but regardless of how good the pizza might be (I've never tasted it), the pastas and sandwiches and salads are all top notch. It's not like how at some pizza places you can also get a couple of pastas like baked ziti that is probably made with pizza sauce.
Non-pizza items these guys make that are above average on the delicious-o-meter:
- grilled chicken parmesan
- cavatelli with maranara
- gargantuan subs on fresh bread with anything on them you might expect to find in an Italian deli
- Buon Appetito salad: basically a chef salad, but instead of crappy turkey and ham, it has parma ham and capicola and chunks of parmesan and mozz balls and more. I order that salad a LOT.
If only they'd dim the lights and pre-set the tables, Buon Appetito could be a real gem, considering there are no good sit-down Italian spots in downtown JC. Regardless, their take-out menu will remain at the top of my stack of menus on top of the fridge.Listed in: The best of Jersey City

The best is what these guys are...I'd say I'm a regular and go in here once or twice a week, sometimes less and these guys are always so friendly. The great customer service and good food is what keeps me coming back.
For starters their bread is baked fresh daily at their other location (Bayonne) and transported over to make some of the finest italian sandwiches that you can get in Jersey City (falling, in my opinion, just short of Andrea's in the Heights).
The salads soups are also very good with the Vegetable Antipasto being my "go to" salad and a very tasty Lobster Bisque being my favored soup. I guess my one complaint would be that when I first ordered buffalo wings the sauce came on the side, but since then I know just to ask for the sauce to be put on the wings.
The pizza itself is good. The sauce is tasty, and the cheese is quality (unlike some other places which end up being a bit more rubbery). And for the price, I really can't complain about the size of the slices (bigger than average). The pies are priced at about the same as the other places, but like I said the customer service keeps me going back.
I've also had the Linguine with White Clam Sauce which I thought was delicious and came with a very healthy serving of clams. -

This is probably the best pizza in Jersey City.
It is pricier than other joints, but the slices are LARGE and flavorful.
I haven't tried many of the other items, although the grilled chicken sandwich with mozz was pretty solid.
I see from below that certain people have had issues with delivery from here, which is too bad, hopefully the restaurant is reading this and can fix those issues cause they'd really have the best pizza place around then.
It's walking distance for me, so I just pick up my food. -

This is my go-to place in Jersey City when I don't feel like leaving the house and want some decent takeout. Their menu consists of mostly Italian and sandwiches. I would not say that it has the best Italian food that I've ever had but in no way it is bad. In fact consistency is the best part about the restaurant-- every time I order from here I know exactly what to expect. The good (and bad) part about this is that the food is neither bad, nor is it ever great whenever I order it.
The pizza is really nothing to write home about it, especially since there are so many better pizza places around it like Esperantos, Helen's, Stella's, and even Princess Pizza. At times I feel like the sauce may even be a little on the salty size which is the reason I don't order it too often.
The pasta is pretty much what this place is better known for, with a pretty good variety of pastas on the menu. From the bolognese, to the parmesian, to the seafood, and pesto, all of the dishes are good-- again, not the best I've ever had, but good, especially for takeout.
Salads, sandwiches, calzones, strombolis, and appetizers are also good and do the trick when I'm having my Italian food craving. Portions are a pretty good size with fairly decent prices. If I were to rate this place on takeout food standards, I'd easily give it a 4 star; however, this is not the case and I'm comparing it to every dine in restaurant as well. Like I said before, this place is solid-- just don't expect anything more.
