This isn't the fanciest hotel in the world, but who cares? I like that it's really small and in a super convenient location. The "fitness room" is sort of a joke, but that was really the only bad thing. We were upgraded to a junior suite at no charge because we checked in late at night. I bought the hotel room on Priceline for $90/night, so it really was a great deal. I would definitely stay here again, because you don't need to rent a car or anything.

What a cute little hotel!
Stayed here for 2 nights at the beginning of April (BRR!). Was able to book a standard room on very short notice for only $110 a night. Not a bad deal in my book! The rooms were comfortable and clean, though very small. Comfortable beds, FREE Internet, and eco friendly bath products by Green Natura. Also, the hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating.
The hotel was very conveniently located. There's tons of bars and restaurants within a couple blocks. The downtown core was about a 5-10 minute walk. Or if you're looking to venture a little further (or just lazy) the haymarket and north station T stops are both about a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
All in all this was a great place to stay in Boston. It didn't blow me away, but for the price, I cant complain!

February 2008, my wife and I spent 4 nights at this flat iron style boutique hotel. We were very pleased with the hotel. The service staff was great. The staff were helpful to us as were visiting Boston for the first time. The room was a bit on the small side, but adequate. The bathroom was very roomy and classy. Had marble floors, counter and shower. The hotel was very stylish and elegant looking.
We had breakfast and a late evening snack /dessert at the Flat Iron Tapas restaurant in the hotel. Service and the food was good.
The hotel is within walking distance to downtown Boston and 3 blocks from the North Station subway station.
The price was very reasonable for the room and service we received.
I found the Bulfinch Hotel while looking for reasonable Boston Hotel rates on http://Kayak.com. I needed three nights for a long weekend in July. The flat-iron style of the hotel's building really intrigued me, and the rates were fairly low (a bit under $200 a night) so I went for it.
After a long hot drive up from Philadelphia (we toughed it out almost the entire time without air conditioning...earning us near heat stroke conditions, but also earning us 40mpg for our trip--yay!) the Bulfinch's cool lemon or lime ice water in the lobby and cool rooms were very much welcomed by the two of us.
We opted to have the car kept in the garage that is subsidized by the hotel for guests during our stay. This is really the best option (we weighed them all). Other options included: Trying to find cheaper garage parking (there really isn't any--we looked), or Parking on the Street and moving it every two hours (plus they street-clean every morning at 4 or 5am...parked cars are towed).
Make sure to ask (and ask around) whether or not you have in-out privileges at the garage. We were told we didn't have in-out privileges, but at the end of our stay, they informed us that we did...hmmm...In any case, the Bulfinch is located close enough to most things we wanted to see in Boston (and two metro stations are only about a block away) so it was ok for us to not have a car.
The hotel room was wonderful. Really big bed, all white with a blissful thick white down comforter over cool white sheets and lots of white pillows---sign me up!
The bathroom featured all "green" and natural toiletries products. That was nice, but the bathroom also featured a "green" low flow toilette. I like an environmentally friendly toilette, but I also know that if it's kind of a cheap toilette, in addition to being low flow, that it can really screw up the plumbing...our toilette was clogged/broken/flooding just about the entire long weekend. They had to give us a plunger just for our room. We dealt with it, but it was a bit of a hassle. However, the staff was very accommodating and offered to switch us rooms.
I really enjoyed my visit to Boston and I really enjoyed the Bulfinch. It was refreshing to stay somewhere that wasn't too expensive, but without cutting out quality.

This is a really nice boutique hotel for a very reasonable price. Rooms range from $150ish to low $200's, and if you're looking for a well-designed room with elegant and even a bit SEXY furnishings, and you don't want to spend the money that Eliot, Onyx, XV, or Nine Zero require, the Bulfinch is a great way to go. Modern design, white on white linens, plush pillows, padded headboard, funky architectural elements included. The building looks like a smaller sibling of New York's Flatiron, and the rooms that occupy the nose of the building are their junior suites, which is where we stayed.
There is no spa, pool, or gym, and the lobby is nice but small, so the real attraction is the rooms and the price. Location is good too--walking distance from Government Center, Quincy Market, and maybe Beacon Hill (though that may be a hike). There is a good-looking steak restaurant w/ bar off the lobby, and they might provide the hotel with room service, but I'm not sure. Guest service was great; they allowed us a late checkout and were prompt with our requests.
I give them 5 stars not because they're the best hotel in town, but because they do really well what they set out to do--be comfortable, classy, and affordable.
