I have to admit that I am jaded...living in Lawrence, with so many great local restaurants, when someone suggests going to a chain restaurant, I have the knee-jerk reaction of "oh, no!"  This being divulged, every time we go to BWW, I enjoy myself. We are usually there to watch a sporting event, and I cannot fault their many TVs (or the trivia that they have for those who are not as into the sports, but still want to be a part of the group) and the big, cold domestic beers that seem to always be on special.

The food is also enjoyable (although I seem to forget this every time a trip there is suggested)---I like the bone-less wings and the naked tenders (they come without sauce and they you determine how much should be applied). The wings and tenders are great because BWW have a wide variety of sauces (something like 14-15). Most places have sauces with a temperature variation, but BWW also has sweetness, vinegar level, and spice variations as well.  I am a fan of the Caribbean Jerk sauce (with hints of anise and cinnamon), but also like the Spicy Garlic and Asian Zing--these all have a medium-hot amount of heat and a a lot of flavor as well.

At one point in time I witnessed up to 8 employees standing around twiddling their thumbs and chatting it up, while a dozen tables in the restaurant were dirty, and we were receiving little to no service.

I ordered the mini corn dogs appetizer which was supposed to come with a honey mustard sauce.  Not only was there no sauce with it, but our server didn't even say anything or make eye contact as he quickly dropped them off at the end of our table, not in front of any one of us.

I saw him walk away and stand by some other employees and start joking around, and I had to get up and walk across the restaurant to ask for sauce, receiving no apology.

The wings (what they are supposed to be known for) were soft and soggy on the outside, and slimy on the inside.  I ordered three different flavors of the hot sauce, none of which were nearly as hot as advertised, leaving me even further disappointed.  Drink orders were forgotten until reminded twice, twenty minutes into the meal.

I feel like they wasted a lot of my time and money here, and there are many more annoying events that took place during that visit, but now I am realizing they are wasting even more of my time while I write this review, but I had to at least give a start to this horrible experience to warn others.  Stay away!

There's a right way and a wrong way to pour a beer--two inches of head on top of our beloved Guinness is not one of them.   When my husband complained about the amount of foam, our server told us that all the beers are poured to corporate standards.   Seriously?!?!?

Beer issues aside, we did enjoy the Southwest Chicken (wrap--??) on the appetizer menu.   Ours must have been fresh out of the fryer because they were hot.   We also had some wings, Carribean Jerk flavor, which were tasty with a nice heat.

As for the service, it could have been a lot better, but it was really busy tonight because of the KU bball game.  Other places can handle the game crowd, so why can't BWW?

We'll probably come back & give them another chance....just not on a game night.

I gave this place a few chances because the food was actually pretty good and its a good place to go with a group of friends...but the service is horrid. I would go back if I could bypass the lazy servers.

Unless you like hosts who ignore you walking into the buiding, keep on talking to the servers and then glare at you as if they're surprised that you didn't actually seat yourself OR servers who are probably in the back texting their stupid friends going "OMG WE R SOO BUSY!" and making  you wait 20 minutes for a drink order, then don't go here.

My friends and I have attended BWW almost weekly since this past fall. If there's a place I feel knowledgeable about in Lawrence, it's here. I feel kind of sad inside saying that, haha, but...it's the truth. We used to frequent Vermont St BBQ, until it sadly closed (though it's supposed to re-open?!), and we relocated here. At first, I didn't enjoy it, but I think it's like comparing apples to oranges. Both have their pluses.

Service: Would normally discuss food first, but this is a key point here. Service is usually pretty dismal. However, my friends and I found a 5-star server who is awesome and fortunately serves us almost every time we come. Otherwise, service usually ruins your visit here - if it weren't for her, I'd give it 2 stars. If it weren't for everyone else, I'd give it 4.

Food: My friends and I go every Tuesday, when regular wings are on special (Boneless are on special on Thursdays, I believe). So this is what I am most familiar with. Wings are fairly consistent, though some size variation. Sauciness definitely varies - sometimes they seem almost dry, other times sitting in a pool of sauce. I don't actually like Buffalo sauce, so I can't comment on that, but I enjoy many of the others (Parmesan Garlic, Asian Zing, Honey BBQ, Caribbean Jerk, Mango Habanero, and the new "limited edition" Thai Curry). The dry rubs are pretty good, too, though the Salt and Vinegar doesn't have much flavor. If you're feeling bold you can do the Blazin' challenge and eat 12 Blazin' wings in a few minutes and get a t-shirt, and if you're super fast - get your photo on the wall. Boneless wings are alright, but they almost seem to have too much fried crust on them. They're not bad, but I prefer the regular wings. The Naked Tenders are a nice un-fried option, and note that they come with fries, though I don't think it says that on the menu. I had a black and blue burger once, and it was satisfying. Finally...there is nothing obviously special about the fries, but for some reason I really like them, especially dipped in bleu cheese.

Drinks: So I'm a weirdo and don't really like beer - so I can't comment much here, except to say that they have various specials and I recall friends getting things like Blue Moon, Guinness, and Stella on tap. They have some mixed drinks, but like most chain restaurants, probably not worth it. The flavored lemonades are as bright and sugary as you might expect.

Price: Relatively cheap, I forget the exact cost of the wings on Tuesdays, but today I got 12 for just under $6. So like 40-45 cents a wing.

Ambiance: Sports...if you come to watch a game, there will probably be a TV somewhere in your line of sight showing it. Which also means that game day can be pretty busy - if you're coming to watch a KU away game, come early.

If incredible wings are what you seek, do yourself a favor and walk another 2 blocks down the street  to Vermont Street BBQ.

update: Vermont Street BBQ closed several months ago.  I still miss their smoked wings.

I crave some of their sauces sometimes (Asian Zing), but the boneless wings themselves are usually mediocre. Their potato skins are pretty good as well and desserts pretty chain-restaurant standard.

Their service, however, ranges from passable to terrible. It's a shame because this is one of the few places with a patio that we can eat if we are walking our dog on Mass (oddly enough, our service is better when the dog is with us! They even bring him water without asking, that's the only reason this place gets more than one star.), but I hate to patronize them after some of the ridiculous things we've been through here.

Tables (inside and out) generally sticky from sauce or whatever else. Refills slow. Once on the patio it took 20min we waited 20min for someone to acknowledge us, went inside to remind them we were there, waited another 5 minutes for someone to bring us menus and say "your waiter will be right with you," and another 10 before we even placed drink orders!!

This most recent visit was the most irritating though. Walked in and was told that it would be a few minutes because they were "cleaning tables" despite the fact there were several booths open. Well, you can see right into the dining room and no tables got cleaned for the next 15 minutes, though multiple staff members were wandering back and forth between the entrance and bathrooms (during this time there was also a woman who had come to pick up a take-out order. Though she was standing at the appropriate counter and staff was constantly walking by, nobody acknowledged her for ages until she pulled someone aside!). Finally, staff came to clear one table and took us back to be seated. I was almost fully sat down before anyone thought to tell us "just to let you know, we are out of boneless wings tonight".
Out of boneless wings??? Aren't they a chicken wing CHAIN?! Something has to be seriously wrong with the way a place is run if they run out of their main product at 6pm.

Yikes. What a mess. This place needs a change of management and to stop putting up with lazy staff.

Fun place to watch a game and let's be honest the wings aren't from Buffalo but there not bad. The parmesan wings are a good sub for the traditional or BBQ.  If you like heat then do the challenge. Beer is cold and the wings are messy. The potato wedges with cheese are a fan favorite.
