Yes, I've officially fallen head over heels for Buffalo Exchange!  Albeit, it's stealing all of my money, because I've walked out with some goodies the last 3-4 times I've been there!  Buffalo Exchange doesn't just sell used vintage clothes, they also have separate lines from designers that are sold there!  I alwayssss find something adorable from those lines, and I can't stop buying!  The pieces from those lines are very trendy, feminine, chic, and flowy, and that's the style I've been channeling so you can just imagine how crazy I go when I'm there.  Buffalo also sells costumes and many accessories for those in need of a lesser priced outfit for a special occasion.  Buffalo Exchange has become my favorite shop on Magazine!  I love it sooo much, but I must stop going so frequently or I'll be bankrupt by the end of the year.

Oh Buffalo Exchange, thank you for gracing me with your presence in New Orleans.  You have completely changed my shopping habits.

Decent selection for a consignment shop - well-organized, mainly good to mint condition, good representation of labels, ultra-reasonable pricing. Conveniently located on Magazine St.

Found a smashing chartreuse Trina Turk peplum strapless dress (alas sz 4), Betsey Johnson purple party dress (also sz 4), citron Lily Pulitzer chunky shrug (xs). Carries your standard BCBG, Bebe, Laundry labels. Has a small vintage selection and modest shoe selection.

This is the best place for consignment. I have been to most of the consignment stores around the city and Buffalo Exchange always buys back the most clothes at the best price. The staff at Buffalo Exchange are well versed in understanding the quality of clothing as well as style. They will not take anything that looks too worn.

They give you the option of getting 50% back in store credit or 30% in cash back. It is a great way to make extra cash if you have nice clothes that you aren't wearing anymore.

The really do a good job and they are nice about it too!

I am a self-professed shopaholic and Buffalo Exchange is one of my most frequented places for several reasons: 1. I am on a budget and their prices are waaay better than almost every other store nearby (although some prices are still a little steep for a consignment shop, in my opinion -- i.e., $30 for a dress).  2.  It is nicely organized by size and style. 3. The people who work there are always very nice.  4. They give awesome trade value for clothes you bring in.  The only thing more I could ask for out of Buffalo Exchange is a larger shoe selection.

I used to go here a lot, but I didn't see my style clothes on recent visits so I'm waiting for cooler weather to see if the style selection changes.

First - selling your clothes. They are very very picky. For good reason, because the people who shop here I think are also very very picky. In saying that, they prefer natural fibers, ostentatious jewelry, and vintage anything. It also depends on what they have in stock. I watched a woman's stack of gorgeous sequined tops get rejected because they've had some sequined tops already on the racks that weren't selling. So if you're thinking of selling and don't want to drag your stuff back with you, don't bring out of season clothes nor clothes they have tons of already that you see visit after visit. And don't depend on being able to leave your stuff there for donation - if their bin is full, they won't take anymore.

And now - buying clothes. It's hit and miss for me when I find things. But the staff is very friendly. They understand if you want to try on a bunch of clothes - makes sense since the sizes all vary, especially with vintage. [tip: always try on pants and shorts. You never know how they've been stretched out by the previous owner.] Be patient and look through everything. But don't be surprised if for every successful visit where you find a bagful of perfection, you've had four visits where you've found nothing. I also find lots of things for my boyfriend here - the button-up selection is fabulous!

They take your cool old stuff, and give you money for cool new stuff. And manage to not be pretentious about it. And by pretentious I mean like the reason I avoid La Boulangerie. This place makes my wife happy, which makes me happy.

First off, the staff are a fabulous group of people. So nice and laid-back, they'll help if you need it and they'll let you shop without interruption if you'd like. So many corporate stores make their employees hover over you trying to help you find something, and it's refreshing not having to deal with that.

Being that the store is rather large (compared to others in the area) they have a broad selection and there's almost always something for everyone. Whether you're just an average sort of person or someone all out flashy, you'll more than likely find at least one piece you like.

I only have two issues, organization and pricing. I've noticed they'll have three dress racks all separated Small, Medium and Large when I think it would just be easier to have one rack solely for Small, one for Medium and so on. Just me?

    With pricing,
    - I've seen some great designer pieces from Chloe and Theory that were in the $15-$30 range. I think it's great to be able to find such high end pieces for low prices, but I'm a bargain shopper and even I would be willing to pay more. The only reason I say this is because of the seller, they're not getting as much for their sale as they should. The Chloe dress I saw originally retailed for about $175 and was in the store for $30. It was less than a year old and in perfect condition, but this means the person who sold it only got $9 for their dress. Being a buyer myself, someone should get around 1/4 of the original purchase price for their item (granted it's in perfect condition).
    - On the other hand, I've seen Forever 21 tops for about the same price they'd be at F21. I think if they made those pieces lower, they could make high end pieces cost more.

Absolutely my new favorite place on the planet. So far I've been there twice, once in search of Mardi Gras costume options, and more recently because I needed a dress to wear to the NOLA Fashion Week wrap party at Eiffel Society, where I knew everyone would (as usual) look infinitely more fabulous than me, times a million. These were tremendously successful shopping trips, on both counts. And I loathe shopping. Mostly because I suck at it. But I'm starting to get the hang of it here.

Next time I visit, I'm bringing every article of clothing I don't wear, and then some. Hell, maybe I'll just bring it all. They take clothes whenever they're open for business (as opposed to on certain days of the week like some used book stores I know). While you wait, they'll sort through your unwanted stuff, determine what they can sell and for how much, then give you a store credit for 50% of that total amount and tell you to have fun. Alternatively, if you want cash, I believe the percentage is 30%. Added bonus: they'll go ahead and donate anything they don't want, so with one trip you can offload all your "what-on-earth-was-I-thinking" slash "admit it, you'll never be that size again, or age for that matter" slash "fat clothes" slash otherwise out of style/out of favor articles of clothing.

Fabulous stuff, for cheap. Offload your less than fabulous stuff, to buy more stuff. This is genius. I heart you, Buffalo Exchange.

I've been meaning to check this Buffalo Exchange out since I moved here, but didn't have a chance until recently.

Once again, Buffalo Exchange is the cat's pajamas.  I lived in Seattle for a while and got completely spoiled by Buffalo Exchange, then moved to a city without one, and now I'm back in a city with one!  I've decided if I ever move again Buffalo Exchange (and Trader Joe's) will be on the "must-have" list, but I digress.

I spent my day exploring this city's consignment shops and frankly wasn't that impressed.  It seems there are two extremes:
Type A: Stores like Swap which had jeans priced at $90 (I'm sure worth it, just not my speed).
Type B: Stores that require hours to sift through crap before you find a gem (fun, but not what I was looking for).

I saved Buffalo Exchange for last because I knew it had the most potential.  I went hopeful but wary because I have been in some pretty shitty Buffalo Exchange locations. Wow, I should have gone there first and skipped the others. Within 15 minutes I found what I was looking for, tried it on,  paid, and left the store.  Awesome!  This was right after Mardi Gras and the cashier told me they were pretty picked over.  If this is them picked over, I can't wait to go when they are fully stocked.

Tip: If you skip the plastic bag, they donate 5 cents to the charity of your choice.

'This is the first buffalo exchange I've been to, personally I'm not impressed.  The clothing while yes is all very cute is not sold for what I would call a bargain.  It may have been that I went when there was low inventory (after all there's not really a "bad/good" time to go to a thrift store/consignment store) there seemed to be a lot of blouses that were from their warehouse...I had asked one of the employees why there were so many of the same kind of (several) blouses, he stated that they often get over stock of brand new clothing in their warehouse and its put out for sale.  A part of me thinks that's awesome but at the same time it kind of turned me off, I'm not going to buy a top at a consignment store for twenty dollars just because it's new, especially if it feels like the material won't wash well and I can find similar items at ross for less than half the price!  There were some really cute tops that i found from brands like J Crew and Banana Republic but once again the price was anywhere from 15.00-17.00 mehh not really for me, I've found great stuff from great brands at good will for 4.20 (and half that depending on tag color) so maybe I'm just a little spoiled on thrift store prices.  They had a lot of great little dresses and costume pieces some were very reasonable but I didn't have luck with finding my size on the things that I did like (a part of the thrift store game my friend) and the rest was what I would call "granny chic".  On my sad way out I saw a jewelery stand full of cute things that I wish I would have taken the time to check out but I had to go catch a trolley and get back to my hotel "raises fists" oh well, better luck next time I suppose!

I love the idea of Buffalo Exchange: used, recycled fashion. There are definitely some funky items that would be great for creating fun costumes. Every now and then I have found some pretty good finds I even found an exact replacement of a Forever 21 dress I had caught on fire at a BBQ for $10 bucks. There are some hipster and trendy selections in there, which I am a little too shy to wear, but always looks so fun on the rack- They always have a good selection of barely worn shoes, but I can never find my size- I wear a 5.5 to 6, so if you're a size 7-9, you'll have quite a selection.
Going on a weekday is ideal- weekends are busy and I don't have the patience for it.

Great selection of second-hand and new apparel.  They also had a lot of costume stuff in this store!  I normally don't review shops like this, but I wanted to specifically point out how kind all the staff was!

Seriously- after shopping around on Magazine all day and going into several stores with warm bodies working- the polite, friendly staff here made my day!  Kudos to whomever hires the rock stars who work here.

I am not a thrift store shopper (nothing against it--it's just not my thing), but I am a fan of Buffalo Exchange because I can be a thrift store seller!  I tend to have this problem--an inability to remain the same clothing size for one than more year at a time--and since I don't have the luxury of having a "skinny" closet and a "fat" closet, I often donate clothes that are in excellent condition and still have a lot of life left in them.  Then I discovered Buffalo Exchange...

The friendly and helpful staff or "buyers" at Buffalo Exchange will go through your items and will offer you cash or store credit for the items that they are interested in.  The money isn't great, but it's obviously more money than you would make if you just gave your clothes away for free.  And bonus--there is a donation bin in the store so that unwanted clothing can still make its way to people in need.

My only complaint is that the store is only interested in purchasing clothing that is made of "natural fabrics", like cotton. I respect that, but I also feel that it's missing out on some amazing pieces of clothing.  Also, clothing is wanted in "nearly brand new" condition.  I understand that there isn't a great market for stained, faded clothing but I have had clothes turned away that I would absolutely still be wearing... if they still fit.

Buffalo Exchange gets three shiny stars from me because the store gives me money for my unwanted clothes but rejects clothes for somewhat odd reasons.

So, my message to the thrift store skeptics out there: you don't have to be a buyer--you can be a seller!  Next time you have some clothing, shoes, or accessories that have reached the end of their time in your closet, be sure to stop by Buffalo Exchange before you look into other arrangements.

Any store with the quality and style of merchandise that this particular Buffalo Exchange has runs the risk of turning into a hipster island, filled with holier-than-thou 80s fashion and lots of noses being looked down.

Instead--quite refreshingly--this store is stuffed with hip, sexy, cool stuff and staffed by people who just like fashion. Sure, they're hip looking. Yes, they may be hipsters. But damn if they weren't actually nice instead of pulling the "Gosh, I'm just cooler than you" shit.

The woman at the cash register was bouncy and straight forward, explaining the pricing system and the token thing. When we questioned the price of a pair of shoes (on the wrong rack), she was polite and professional. Not once did she make me feel stupid. It was so nice.

I was a little disappointed in the selection of fat girl sizes, but I know that depends greatly on the day. I'll check back for more good stuff in the future, and I may even sell some of my own clothes that have long bored me. And how do I know there wasn't a large selection of my size? Because everything was where it should be. Magical.

Accessibility notes: Step up into the store. Narrow doorway. Changing rooms are large enough for mobility devices or assistance. Shelves extend up the entire wall so some items may be out of reach for seated customers.

Definitely my favorite place to shop in New Orleans. I love all things fashion but could do without the hefty price tag that accompanies so many stylish threads so this is the perfect shopping experience!

My first stop to shop!  If feel the word consignment cheapens the merchandise, because all the clothes are brand name (not Forever 21 brand name) and good quality.  The prices are unbeatable.  This is not a consignment shop that overcharges.  I even found a designer dress for probably 1/4 of what it retailed for.  I couldn't believe it lasted an hour on the rack.

The fitting rooms are spacious, and there is a huge mirror out front.  For the self-conscious, the large mirror is for all the store to see.  This is perfect, however, for those who love to seek opinions from strangers.

As far as selling clothes, this place is harsh. (Which is why I love to buy clothes here.)  Some clothes I only wore a few times were rejected as too worn.  So I take my clothes here first, and the rejects to Plato's.

The more I go there the more I like it! They have great vintage (mostly not everyday wearable) at fantastic prices! Unfortunately I am not a huge fan of the new items that they have stuck in with all the other pieces as they tend to be alot higher and our somewhat "cheap" looking. I love the staff!! Every single one of the girls I have talked to there are super friendly, helpful, and just down right lovely!

Most of the clothes I wear are scondhand because they came from here!  I like that they have hippy-trendy options as well as basic. I can swing both ways, leaning toward simpler, more casual though, and they have a lot of options in this category! If you go on a weekday, it's not too busy and you can bop around to the good tunes they play while you search.

I always want to buy the cute, barely used shoes but must remember that someone else has probably already broken them in and they probably won't fit right, no matter how much I try and change this fact with my own two feet. Once though, I spotted the most incredible boots a woman was trying on, they didn't fit her and she was clearly upset.  Her friend went for the gold and found that her fat calves wouldn't zip in. A perfect Cinderrella story, I moved in as soon as they buzzed off, and zipped right up into these bad boys as if they were tailor made just for me.

It is a bit crowded though, in order to find the PERFECT item that's cheap and fits you just right, you've really got to flip through those racks tediously.  If someone, or a few someones, is doing the same, it gets slightly claustrophobic.

My favorite thing about this place is the choice that they give you after checking out for a bag or a "token."  If you opt out of getting the bag, as I usually try to do most places I go, you get a little carboard circle to put in your choice of slot box depicting three seperate charities! It's only about a quarter's worth or something but it stills feels good.

That's it, I need a new sweater and something to wear to the yelp event, I'm going shopping here today...

    I am a fan!

This place was the perfect size.
Not too large. Not too small.

I left with two shirts, one dress and a pair of shoes, all appropriate to wear from the office to cocktail hour.

The employees were SUPER sweet and helpful.

I informed them that the vibe of the NOLA B.E. was much more pleasant than that of the Austin B.E.

I didn't have to squeeze through any aisles accidentally rubbing against some old hipsters damn skinny jeans. The store was not cramped by an endless amount of old, used and torn Forever 21 clothes. The selection was fun, yet mature.

I will return next time I'm in the N.O., fasho.

Having never been to Buffalo Exchange, my friends and I headed straight here with a mission, to find a cute dress!

Luckily for all three of us, we hit the jackpot and found dresses we liked!

It took us a while to dig and sort through but it was a wonderful bonding experience, shopping and trying on clothes! One of the most girly things to do. I hardly get a chance to see them so it was a lot of fun just trying things on and getting opinions. The sales associates there were super nice and they were not pushy at all.

We all walked away with an outfit or two or four from this place. This place is totally awesome!

I also love the fact that if you don't take a bag to hold your clothes, you get a token to donate 5 cents to one of three charities. I fully approve of charity work and I approve of Buffalo Exchange in NOLA!

Great balls of fire! Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good bargain and I rarely ever pay full price for clothes. Well kids, prepare yourself, because I just discovered a magical store called the Buffalo Exchange, which buys and sells men and women's used and vintage clothing, shoes and accessories! This great consignment shop is located down on the ever popular, always trendy Magazine Street here in New Orleans. The clothing they sell is in great condition with a good mix of designer and brand names even your granny will recognize. Give yourself at least an hour to dig, but I promise you'll walk away with something you love. (I brought home two great little dresses for under $20, total!) The sales associates were very friendly and never pushy and the music was fun and upbeat.

If you're intentions are purely consignment, here are some tips to remember: Bring seasonal specific items in at anytime; expect lines on weekends and late afternoons. Anything Buffalo Exchange doesn't purchase you can either take back or they can donate the items to a local charity for you. If they accept your items, you can get cash back or store credit on the spot.

Not only is this store good for your wallet, but it's also great for the environment and society. Through their Tokens for Bags® program, Buffalo Exchange has generated over $338,000 for hundreds of local nonprofit agencies since 1994, saving 6.8 million bags. Shoppers are encouraged to accept a token instead of a bag for purchases, and Buffalo Exchange donates five cents to a charity of your choice. By using my enormo-purse for shopping instead of accepting a plastic bag, I donated my token to the Hands on New Orleans Network, a group that focuses on Gulf relief and recovery efforts.

Every time I stop by here I am impressed by the friendly and easy-going staff. On the negative side, I'm not really a fan of buffalo exchange in general for my clothing needs and as far as buffalo exchanges go this one is pretty small which means I never really find anything in my size or style. Not even shoes. And I always find shoes.  Are there no small-footed ladies getting rid of their shoes or what? Like any buffalo exchange it's pretty hit or miss, though I do seem to have more consistent luck shopping for accessories and men's clothing at this location.

    Concept is great.

    Selection varies.

Like a used up Urban Outfitters.  Nothing wrong w/ that at all.  Very neat and unique items are here.

I give this joint a low rating b/c as much as I wanted to love it, I can't get past the snooty and rude dressing room attendant.  Okay, maybe i am not SMALL enough (oh just maybe too big) and yeah, it didn't fit me.  No reason why she should've mentioned "yeah right, psh don't even try!" out loud where i can hear it about 30 feet away.   it's rude and wrong to heckle potential long term customers that way.  (Interesting to note:  there are workers there who are MUCH bigger than me....)

big plus:  my brother found a FCUK zipped hoodie here for $16!  the dude who checked us out was nice and understandably tired from a long day; nice button he had there "free lance actor".

I may come back one day b/c I love Magazine St but for now, I'm so turned off, I really really don't like BE.  Sorry.

Love this store! Great variety of gently used items, many of which are quite unusual and fun. I've been lucky enough to score a few pairs of great Chucks, and last time I was there I got this amazing, handmade leather cuff bracelet. Be sure to check out their handbags and jewelry. Oh, and they sometimes have larger sizes. For those of us who live to eat. Fun, fun place!

Love them in Cali, love them here. There's always a hidden gem or two to find; my last one was a Coach bag and great jeans.

Considering the only other Buffalo Exchange I went to was of monstrous size in San Francisco; I had high expectations. Nonetheless when I took my fellow (pre their opening of two locations in Chicago) Illinoisans they seemed to be very happy with it. We found a couple cute dresses and shoes to walk away with. I just wish it were bigger. Will definitely be back.

Wayy bigger than the one in the East Village in Manhattan, but I couldn't find anything on this last trip to NOLA. However, I know that consignment shopping is all about luck and timing and the day I went was not my day. There is a ton of stuff to sift through, something for everyone.

I always find stuff to buy here, for myself or for others. I used to shop at the B.E.'s in Seattle, so I was so excited when one opened up down here. This one is by no means huge, but the manager is smart, funny, and stylish and this shows by the quality she and her buyers bring in. I have tried to sneak some duds by them, but they never fall for it. When I do have good stuff to sell, I get a fair cash or trade value. The store is kept clean and neat, and when you find parking on Magazine AND a great new pair of shoes, you feel like you won the lottery.

New and recycled fashion in New Orleans! It felt as though I was home in California. Unlike the Buffalo Exchange I regularly shop at on Haight Street, San Francisco, this store is particularly small but in fact, I was grateful for that. It was a quiet friendly place! Although the selection was not large, their collected items were attractive. I left satisfied with three items: red sunglasses, a beautiful pair of dress shoes, and a t-shirt. Check out my shoes, I posted a photo!

I'm all about the concept and the way they pull it off. Like any other consignment shop though it is subject to not have anything you may like in stock, but hey no worries. It's in a great area with hella great shops on Magazine. I didn't really interact with the staff, but they seemed to be helping other peeps as needed. Even though I didn't find anything here this time around I'll definitely be back - between here and the Funky Monkey you can mos' definitely find some great buys.

Let me rave about Buffalo Exchange for a minute. This is the best used clothing store in town! The last time I went I walked out with a pair of Juicy Couture heels, Michael Kors dress, a few Gap blouses, a Charlotte Russe tank, and a pair earrings for less than what the shoes would have cost alone if I bought them at the mall. The staff is really nice too. They even remember my name whenever I go in!

You know how some Buffalo Exchanges are great, like the ones in Chicago and Colorado, and then some are not so great, like the ones in NYC and Minneapolis? Well this one is really great. It's big, well organized, they have lots of shoes and lots of dressing rooms. And they are giving away free pens that have the wild west that moves. Love it.

Finding vintage clothing in this store is a daunting task. The last few times that I have been here I haven't found anything that I like.
