The Colony, TX
We were travelling through, doing a bit of geocaching, when we started getting hungry. We knew we wanted BBQ, but didn't know where to go. This restaurant was nearby one of the caches. We decided to check to see if it was listed on Yelp (it was), and from the previous reviews it looked decent. So, we decided to try it.
Comfortable, "homey" atmosphere. BBQ sandwiches were really good. Fresh baked pie - yummy! I'd definitely recommend it, if you are hungry and in the area. -

Worst chopped BBQ I've had in a long time. Couldn't take single a bite without having to spit out dime-sized chunks of fat.

Whoa! The first review! A friend and I were sailing into Cleburne the other day and we literally were on Henderson Rd, when we consulted the GPS and looked at "All Food". We were just a block away fro Buffalo Creek. Since we were in the mood for BBQ anyways, this was a no-brainer.
What a comfortable, homey environment and we weren't the only ones there. Office people, common folk in there enjoying some homemade fresh barbecue meats. Walked in and ordered some barbecue meats ---I had the two meat combo (turkey and ribs), and my friend had the ham and turkey. We chose our sauce --tasty and mild and my spicy version was just a little kicked up. We chose some fine sides ---turnip greens, potato salad, corn on the cob, and they were all very delicious. The ribs really hit the spot and the turkey slices tasted relatively fresh. The jalapeno pinto beans could have had more heat, but I'm just picky.
May I mention two sweet things? The sweetened tea --refills you pour yourself--was out of this world. Nice and refreshing, especially on a warm day. But I have to say the strawberry cake with the pink frosting ($1) was ---well, something so true and authentic, and a welcome item that doesn't have to be fancy like the Cheesecake Factory to deliver a dessert that is packed with flavor. All you have to do is remove the humble Saran Wrap and eat that delicious cake slice on its own paper plate.
Cleburne, TX also has a Cotton Patch Cafe, which my friend is a fan of. And it looks like people are pretty excited about the new Starbucks. I would imagine that everyone knows about Buffalo Creek BBQ but perhaps people from the outside would want to know more about it as well. Bravo! (Oh yeah --dirt cheap too!) -

Definitely a homey little barbecue joint. It feels like a home converted to a restaurant. Buffalo Creek is not one of those BBQ places that prides themselves on their huge smoker...it's just a trailer smoker in the back yard. There are only a handful of tables but there were plenty opened when I arrived.
You order your 'cue at the counter, and today I order sliced brisket and sausage with spicy beans and potato salad and took my tray to their cozy dinning room. You help yourself to the usual BBQ fixins...pickle slices, jalapeno slices, sweet onion and tea. The brisket was decent but none of my slices had the smokey crust on the outside. I kept thinking if they had cut it off...the best part. The meat was lean but if they had kept the crusty layer it would have been much better. The smoke was light. The sausage was good, better than the brisket with a good amount of smoke on it. They top off their meat with a generous portion of sauce, so if you are one of those who prefers to taste meat before it's drenched in sauce you'll need to ask for it on the side. The sides were the low part of the meal. The spicy beans were just canned pinto beans boil will jalapeno slices and onion...nothing extra. They were pretty bad. The potato salad had a good flavor but it was mealy.
A decent place for 'cue but next time I'll make sure to get some the smokey crust on my sliced brisket and pass on the beans. Parking can be a pain in the small gravel lot. You'll be in and out for lunch around $10.
