Review from Gino M.
Not as good as original.
At least that's what I assume. When I was attending high school in Valdosta, everyone raved about The Wooden Nickel Pub. For some reason, I never went -- it just wasn't on my list of places to hit when trying to impress a girl. Some years ago it either burned down, or was shut down, or was abducted by aliens, I'm not sure -- I remember much lamenting from the Valdostan in-laws that The Wooden Nickel Pub was no longer there.
Less than two years later it was reopened by two Valdostan business men in a nearby location ... and sadly, it just wasn't the same.
The location has gone from "quirky shanty on the side of the road" to "chain restaurant potential".
The food has gone from "whatever made Valdostans stand up and take notice" to "whatever falls off of the back of a Sysco truck".
Look, I'm sure the business men had a good idea and maybe even half decent intentions. They understood that Valdostans LOVED The Wooden Nickel - it was part of the local community for almost twenty years. But the food being served at the new place is absolutely friggin' horribly processed Sysco-matic blech.
It's not fresh.
It's not original.
It's corporate.
There are plenty of places in Valdosta that have that small-town appeal with local cooks trying to serve up flavourful dishes. As Valdosta expands and becomes more of a "college town", you just have to search a little harder for them. -

Valdosta, GA
They have OK food...the kind of food you might expect at a pub. However, you do not necessarily go to a pub primarily to eat food. You go to a pub to drink great beer and socialize for a while. A pub should serve as a respite from the drunks and college crowds where you can discuss politics, history, current events etc.
However, the main problem with this "pub" is that it is not a pub at all. Fact is, they have only domestic tasteless beer. If you are going to put the word "pub" in your name you need to at least have a nice selection of good beer...not mass produced crap. There are so many American micro brews today that sell great beer at great process that it would be super easy to have a wide variety of offerings. That is probably why when you go into the Wooden Nickel no one is ever sitting at their super small bar. It is mostly kids and families eating. I vote they change their name to just Wooden Nickel and leave of the pub. That way they do not misrepresent themselves. The place has great potential; however, I feel it is not meeting its expectations.
