I like Buffalo Bob's for a couple of items. Their sandwiches are very good and the fries are good too. I recommend the pulled pork sandwich, the chopped brisket (so tender!) sandwich and the combo sandwich (lots of meats all tumbled together on a bun). The Curly fries are a cheap way for them to fill up your place, and expect them to be greasy. But, heck, thats not always a bad thing! Perhaps the best thing about Bob's? A yummy little cinnamon and sugar dipped fried donut hole treat hidden in your fries!
Downside, their 'hot' and 'sweet' BBQ sauces taste very similar.
Also, unless you like a noisy environment, ask to sit on the restaurant side. The bar side is full of TV's and loud patrons. -

My family has always been a big fan of Buffalo Bob's.
I haven't tried a meat there I haven't liked, but I ALWAYS get the turkey. It has great flavor! And even though it's sliced pretty thin, it's never dry. The turkey sandwich is my favorite. It's served with a few pickles and a serious mountain of fries. A tasty fritter comes with every meal.
I've heard complaints from people that it's not good barbecue. This is a smokehouse. Just because they serve BBQ sauce, doesn't mean it's a barbecue place.
Definitely not the place for a vegetarian, but if you're looking for some tasty SMOKED meat, give this place a try. You get a lot for your money! -

This place gets three stars because of the nice decor and the service that I received. The food would get two stars.
I ended up here after meeting up with some folks that did the "Brew to Brew" run from KC to Lawrence. They were hungry and this place got us seated.
They were so busy that the hostess ended up waiting on us, and she did a great job. I was impressed by her.
The place itself is very nice, with a lot of "old bulding" charactar. It's clean and it would seem it might make for a good bar scene in the later hours.
Now, that barbecue. Meh. My wife and I, not by design, both ordered brisket sandwiches. The meat was far from tender. It lacked flavor, even when splashing on the "spicey" barbecue sauce which was thin and vinegary (Is that Texas or Memphis? I don't know), it was still pretty plain, and it didn't melt in mouth or even cut through in a single bite. THIS, my friends, is what good BBQ does, this was just some smoked meats on a bun.
The fries were thin and wire-like, which in concept, I would like, but they too lacked flavor and were kind of greasy.
A side of beans...not bad...a bit different. I actually liked the thin vinegar taste of these. The "pork" in the beans seemed to be chunks of pork fat like I saw as a kid out of a can of "Van de Kamps" or whatever those off-the-shelf beans were from local grocery store.
Hey, but I got a little donut hole thingy...ahhh, shucks, it was all chewy and not good. I thought it would be more like a donut, but it was like plain bagle with sugar and cinnamon on it.
Service was great, the place is very nice and nicely decorated. But, on the BBQ side, they need to figure out how to make the meats more tender (A bit lower and slower on the smoker?) and how to crisp up their sides, and maybe thicken their sauce, and add some real spice.
The food was a just a bit boring. The place and people were great. -

My parents were in town visiting, and my dad is a smokehouse fanatic, so we decided to try Buffalo Bob's. We shared the BBQ Family Platter, and it was okay. The turkey seems as if it is straight out of a container of Hillshire Farms deli turkey, the ham and beef had hardly any flavor, and the ribs were definitely not the best I've ever tasted. The best thing we ate were the curly fries, which were surprisingly good.
The service was mediocre. Neither the hostess nor the waitress seemed too happy to help us, but we did get all the necessary items so it wasn't that big of a deal.
Bottom line is, with all the delicious restaurants in Lawrence, don't waste your time with Buffalo Bob's.
Also, they close very early. 9 PM, even on weekends! -

We enjoyed the spinach-artichoke dip with the loaf of hot bread and Lavosh crackers; however, the pulled pork was incredibly dry and hard to chew. Others at my table fared better with their meals. At least the Fat Tire Amber was cold and our server was pleasant.

I ate here again tonight because they had some pretty decent coupons in the local paper. The atmosphere is greatly improved now that all the construction on the entryway is done. However, the floor was greasy. Very greasy. Our table was greasy too.
We got the dinner for four plate. It came with brisket, ribs, sausage, turkey, ham, and chicken. There were also sides. All of the meats were fine, nothing special. They don't use a lot of seasonings in the meat, but everything had a good smoke flavor. The sausage was bad. It tasted like smoked hot dogs.
Buffalo Bobs has a regular and a spicy sauce. They tasted exactly the same everyone in my party. Both sauces were bland. Frankly, any mid-quality grocery store BBQ sauce could hold its own against Bob's.
The sides were nothing special. Cole slaw tasted very bland. The beans were pretty good. Our order also came with pickles (a handful of cheap, floppy dill slices), bread (cheap white bread), and some kind of sweet fried dough that got mixed reviews from my party. I liked the fried dough fine. Everyone else thought they were bland and too dense.
The service was borderline terrible. Our server didn't greet us immediately even though the place was basically empty. She walked past us several times without taking our drink orders. I'd guess we waited about 5 minutes before she decided to come by. I had a coupon but I left it in the car. She refused to give us the discount w/o the coupon. So I had to go back out to the car to get it. Come on. The food business is too competitive to force customers to schlep out to their cars for a dumb coupon. Who gives coupons anyway? Just give a dang discount!
Later one the waitress came over to our table and started striking up a conversation. She was telling us all about how she used to commute to Overland Park but now she goes to Topeka, blah, blah, blah. I have no idea why she thought we wanted to have dinner with HER. Maybe she is a narcissist. It was a serious imposition. In my opinion, servers are best seen and not heard.
Overall, if you like chatty, lame service, semi dirty eating environments, and cheap prices for bland food, then Bob is your man. I'm going to keep shopping for my BBQ of choice. -

This is a good BBQ restaurant. This place is quite popular among people I know. I usually end up getting the mother lode special so I have plenty to eat the next day too. Prices aren't too bad. If you're coming here, order the ribs. That is the probably the best item sold here and one of the best in the area. You'll get a lot of fries with your dinner, so I end up using a plate for the ribs to put fries on so I don't have to eat all of them immediately. Parking is the only issue here. Fortunately, the city does have free parking lots nearby so do be prepared to walk a few blocks.

stumbled upon this place the night of the KU-K State game, after going to a few other places and being told no seats, and we knew nobody was leaving anytime soon.
The place has a nice old-timey homey feel.
The turkey was good, and i greatly appreciated that the kid's meals were for kids of all ages. It came with half a slice of cheese, which I sandwiched between my fries to create some quick cheese fries, worked quite well.
Our waitress was nice, but a little forgettful, my meal came with an extra small side, and she forgot it, but she got it right away with no complaints.
Boyfriend's dinner was good.
And from the looks of things (i snuck a peek at the bill) it was pretty cheap too, $20ish for the 2 of us, and we got the spinach and artichokee dip as an appetizer. -

My Dad and I have been fans of this place for as long as I can remember. Every time we came down from Chicago to visit KU (I am now a student) we would always have to come to Buffalo Bob's strictly for their great BBQ! Personally, I order something along the lines of a pork sandwich which comes with a ton fries and usually a choice of a side. Other than that the menu includes everything that you would normally expect from a barbeque place like this. Overall, if you are looking for a nice sit down restaurant, don't want to spend too much and in the mood for some barbeque, Buffalo Bob's is your place!
