My boyfriend and I had just got done hiking in strawberry, and couldn't find anywhere that was open on a monday, until we ran into this place.
We were originally looking for a small town cafe, but this place covered that. It had a very rustic look and feel. Our service off the bat was amazing. But then our server's shift was over and someone else took her place. Sal was a great server! Very attentive, and polite! My boyfriend and I are both in the service industry, so we love  getting servers that really go above and beyond like Sal did. The whole staff was friendly, and our first server even came back to check on us once more off the clock!
Onto the food.. Delicious! I got a sirloin and baked potato, and my boyfriend got a New York strip, and a baked potato as well. Stakes were cooked perfectly, very tender and tasty! And the price on everything was exactly what we were looking for. You definitely get your money's worth here. Last but not least, they had a terrific beer selection. Not just the typical domestics.
In the end, my boyfriend and I have definitely dubbed this our spot to go when in Payson! Easily 5 stars.

This place has a nice comfortable atmosphere and good food. I ordered the sirloin burger with sweet potato fries. Aside from maybe needing a tiny bit of seasoning on the meat, the burger was pretty tasty. Sweet potato fries were cooked nicely.

The people were friendly - I get the feeling that this would be a nice place to just come by to hang out and relax.

I might not know about the whole menu but those sliders were amazing .The bun had butter drizzled all over it and the burger tasted like heaven. The nice and thick fries were the best when dipped ketchup! This restaurant is kid friendly the food comes out fast and the waiters are so nice!

We have eaten here a few times on our way up to ski at Sunrise and stay at Molly Butler Lodge in Greer in the White Mountains.  The service is always very friendly and the food is consistently delicious.  I usually have the cheese burger and have tried the tortilla soup too.  It's very flavorful.  I consider myself a bit of a tortilla soup expert since I order almost anywhere that I go and it's one of the FEW things I make myself.  It's a bar atmosphere so maybe not great for families, but they have great selection of beers and flat screens with games, of course!

Well maybe the bartender just doesn't like gay people?
I hear the food is good but after ordering a margarita I changed my mind.  It was a glass of ice with sweet n sour.  If only I was already drunk I may not have noticed.
So off to El Rancho where they put Tequilia in the margaritas.

Heading through Payson from NM on the way to Fountain Hills Great Fair.  Needed  to fine a place to eat, tired of fast food.  Saw the big buffalo on the sign and we pulled in.  It is right on the corner of Bonita St and Beeline Highway on the same side as Burger King.  The grill has a rustic feel to it and has patio seating, tables, and booths.  They have cowboy boots hanging from the rafters and a pool table and fireplace.  The wait staff and owners are really nice and make you feel like old friends.

I love eating buffalo because there are no hormones and any other junk like in beef, so anytime we find a place with buffalo we are there.  The menu was pretty extensive and they have a ton of lunch specials for only $5.25.  My mom had the adult grill cheese sandwich which came with american and swiss cheese, grilled onions and tomatoes.  She loved it.  I ordered what else the Buffalo Burger med rare with white American Cheese and coleslaw.  The coleslaw while good, had a little too much mayo.  I like mine a little more dry.  What about the Buffalo Burger,  it was awesome, juicy and just delicious.  I would drive to Payson which is 75 miles just to have one of their Buffalo Burgers.  I have eaten Buffalo Burgers before and none of them have been as good as this, it was delicious.

Wanted to get out of the heat for the day so we decided to drive up to Payson, just a short 90 minutes from Mesa.  Decided to try out Buffalo Bar and Grill because of the many Yelp reviews.

Well, we were not disappointed.  Now, don't get me wrong, if you're into sushi, foi gras and that kind of food, I doubt you will like this, because this  food ain't for no fancypants.  It's just good old-fashioned home cooked good food like grandma would have made.

The setting is your typical bar, with a pool table, booths, high tops, a pool table, and of course, the bar.   Decorated in dark wood with a western -rustic kind of theme.  Again not fancy, think great grandpa's barn.  But it was clean and and folks were friendly.

My husband ordered the special, some huge 100% sirloin burger, with homemade french fries.  I have a little smaller appetite so I ordered the sliders with fries.  We washed it down with diet soda, because we're not drinkers.

First of all, let me say, I love sliders.  Three little burgers came out in a basket full of freshly made fries.  The tops of the burger buns were glistening with butter, and they were fresh, yeasty and chewy.  Yum.  The burgers were 100% ground beef, topped with sauteed onions.  Delish.  I could only eat two of them, but I wanted to eat three.

My huband's burger was the same consistency and quality.  It came out on a huge, fresh bun and was packed full of fresh trimmings including sliced tomato, onions and lettuc (not iceberg).  The fries reminded me of the ones we used to make at home when we had a Fry Daddy. They were thin and moist and fresh.  Not thick steak fries, not previously frozen.  Some people like In and Out's fries, but I liked these way better.

I wish we could say we tried more, but we didn't have room for another bite.  Would have loved to try their dessert.

So if you're looking for something homecooked, not highbrow, I recommend Buffalo Bar and Grill in Payson.

After getting into Payson, I was absolutely famished, and needed something to eat before I faded away and passed out from lack of food.  I wanted to eat at some place local, and saw this place while driving, so I stopped in and grabbed a bite to eat.

They have indoor and outdoor seating, but I decided to eat indoors.  The menu had a good selection of food, and prices were really good.  I went with a cheeseburger with fries and a Dr. Pepper.  The waitress was quick and efficent, and when my food came out, I was pleasantly surprised.

Burger was tasty and delicous! Fries tasted like sweet potato fries, and were not your average boring fries.  I devoured the whole thing in minutes, and the staff itself really made a good impression on me.  Everyone here was pleasant and friendly, and along with ample seating and delicous food, I really enjoyed myself.  They even gave me recommendations on places to go and see!!  Aside from slow drink refills, I would recommend this place to anyone.  They even have evening entertainment with local bands and DJs, so its all around a good place to check out.  If I'm ever back in Payson, I would gladly stop here again.

I roll through Payson four or five times a year, but never bothered to dine here until this past summer.  I had the sirloin burger, and was pleasantly surprised.  It was good enough that I decided to go through Payson rather than Globe on a recent trip back from the White Mountains.

This place serves pretty standard bar fare, and the environment is rustic.  It's kind of like an old cowboy saloon where families can feel comfortable eating. Weird.

Their fries are excellent, but pass on the cowboy beans.  Oh, and this place really should have root beer on tap, rather than the fountain crap.

I am offering two stars because I loved the western ambience and the kind staff! We might have ordered items that were not their speciality: twice cooked potatoes (microwaved and NOT crispy at all and microwaved), fish and chips which were double breaded with the inside layer uncooked. However, we might try it again and have a burger. The person that recommended Buffalo did say they have fabulous burgers . . .

We were going to Payson from Roosevelt Lake and checked Yelp out for suggestions on where to have a good meal. We chose the Buffalo Bar and Grill because of the raves about the burgers.
This restaurant was easy to find and parking was easy.
We lucked out with their Specials Mon-Fri for only $4.99 + tax. They also had another big special for $7.95.
I had a cheeseburger with fries and it was a good burger with lots of garden on it. The fries were homemade and of course great.
A friend had potato salad and said it was delicious - homemade also.
It was a nice place, with friendly servers and it was clean. Bathroom too.

We went here the other day after reading these reviews. See, I lived in Payson growing up and this place has been there FOREVER, just never have eaten there. I'm pretty glad we did.

My husband had the patty melt and fries which was excellent, and I had the pulled pork sandwich also with fries which was good as well. My husband had a beer which he commented was the coldest beer he's ever had in the bottle.

Service was okay. Everyone seemed really friendly and based on how they acted, its like they were trained to ask the questions they did and may of seemed a little phony - that's the best way I can describe it. So, I'm not saying service was bad, I'm just saying to me it didn't seem very genuine... overall though everything was great and we will definitely return!

Quite simply the best burger joint within 100 miles.

    Ambiance
This ain't no fast food chain.  When walking in through the nondescript entrance to this place, you might wonder if you've walked in to a side entrance or if you're even in the right place.  Don't worry.  You're in the right place.  And no - a waitress will not be seating you.  But don't let that stop you.  Come right in and sit down.

    The staff
The staff is very friendly.  Imagine that you're a teenager again, and you've wandered in to your friend's house and their mom is going to cook you the best damn burger you've ever had.  Oh -- and they just happen to live in what looks like a country western bar.

    Menu/selection
This is where it might get a bit difficult, assuming you came hungry and ready for some type of burger.  But don't fret -- I can personally vouch for their pulled pork sandwiches, their gigantic pork tenderloin burgers, & their wonderfully mild green chili burger.

Also:  like I already mentioned, this ain't no chain resturant.  Those fries?  Homemade.  Onion rings?  Homemade.  Cole slaw?  Creamy goodness and ... you guessed it:  Homemade.

A pleasant surprise was the type, quality and portioning of the fresh vegetables included with each burger.  Nice green leaf lettuce (none of that sissy shredded stuff).  Large slices of onion, tomato and pickle also accompanied each burger.

    Pricing
Very reasonable.  A family of four can expect to eat for about $35-40 (including tip) and you'll most likely have leftovers.  They have large portions.

    Summary
A delightful gem of a burger joint in the pine country of Payson.  A definite 'must-see' when you're hungry for a burger and in the area.

    d) atmosphere was down home, relaxing, good bar, and tv screens for football season.

Oh my goodness, best burgers in Payson, and reasonably priced. Went here solely on other Yelper's reviews and was not disappointed. Sweet potato fries to die for and the burgers are thick & juicy wtth super fresh vegetables on them. Everything about this place rocks. I guess it's technically a bar, but there were lots of families with kids the day we went for lunch. So it didn't have a total "bar" feel to it. I will be going back for sure!

I love wings, wings wings and they do them right here!  They aren't to slimy and runny with sauce...  very crunchy and you won't need 1'000 napkins to eat them.  The Kobe burger is also AMAZING (get the onion rings).

Stop there if you are passing through.  You won't be disappointed!

We arrived right before 9:00 on a Sunday night. There was live music and a fun country atmosphere. Everyone was very friendly and seemed to be having a great time. We ordered the Fish Sandwich with the Chicken Tortilla soup (as its side for only a dollar more), and a cheeseburger with fries. It was all incredible!!!!! I didn't even feel like a cheeseburger which is why I ordered the fish, but it was without a doubt one of the best I've ever tasted, and by being so good, put me in the mood. I polished off half of the cheeseburger and shared half of the fish. The soup and the fries were phenomenal! I didn't like Chicken Tortilla Soup prior to this dining experience, but boy was it delish!   The fries were quite possibly the best I've ever had! This place puts almost every other restaurant serving the same types of food anywhere to shame with the quality they provide. I was blown away at how outstanding everything tasted and can honestly say I'd be up for making the drive from Phoenix on occasion just to go eat at Buffalo because it was THAT good!

unimpressed with this fine establishment, everyone I ask in this hick town says it has the best nightlife in payson, so I check it out on a weekday, and I'm the only one at the bar, the bartender is unfriendly, serves me my beer and not another word, so I took off after I was done, buffalos round 2, I go on a saturday, packed bar, live band that only knew country tunes and the only friendly conversation I got was a lady asking for a smoke, and a guy asking for a light. There were 3 or 4 bartenders that night all were shit except this one gentleman who took the time out to help me pick a tequilla shot, aside from this one exceptional bartender I will never set foot into this place again, the patrons are not that friendly of outsiders, then again I do come off as a freak just getting  out of the marine corps 2 months ago and living in southern california where they have real bartenders that aren't afraid to say "hows it going man" before asking "what can I get ya" I only apologive for not getting one intelegent bartenders name that went that extra mile for me.

on the way back home from the family cabin in the white mountains the pops and i were getting pretty darn hungry! the day had been a long one and we were famished. the drive had been unmercifully wet with the monsoon rains that were hitting the north country recently and feeling a little chilly and road weary we dropped into the buffalo. As two out of place phoenicians (well i felt out of place, im sure my dad fit right in) the culture clash of payson and phoenix isnt so much shocking as reaffirming. as someone said previously no one looked like the plastics of scottsdale, or the yuppified gentry of the biltmore. this was a down home deserted REAL atmposphere. although one or two of the folks in here could've been extras in a breaking bad episode, for the most part it was just kind and simple payson townies. We sat down and our friendly plump waitress sauntered over and took our orders, surprisingly good beers on tap here too! Two alaskan ambers for me and ma pa, and a round later we order two of the most delicious buffalo burgers i've ever experienced, complete w/ a side of savory and lightly sweetened sweet potato fries. YUMMMMMM
i was blown away! i mean i have had buffalo and all, and i remember paying an exorbitant price for a subpar patty, tough and tasteless; but not at the buffalo bar, no way son! This was a buffalo burger that wild bill would've creamed himself for....or was it buffalo bob...idk
at any rate the burgers here arent much short of phenom. I loved it and will make it an annual pilgrimage on the way up and back from family trips to the wht mtns. 8^)

If you are visiting this town, and would like to experience some townies, the Buffalo is the place to go. We sat there on a Friday night. A DJ played alternatingly whiny country songs and more recent techno infused stuff. The Buffalo goes with the times! By customer request the 'dance floor' was quickly re-converted to a pool table-area-seems nobody had the desire to two-step that night. The patrons were a bunch of unique rememberable folk. Even a couple weeks later many of their faces are vividly in my memory. Quite a difference from the yuppie places in Scottsdale and Tempe, where most customers look like unified bulked up and blonded plastic people. At the Buffalo you will see work boots, strange tattoos, cowboy hats and shirts, girls without face cake but with bangs, and the occasional meth cooking country-dude. Quite some entertainment on a Friday night in the mountains! Enjoy!
