Popped in here the other day. It was around 11:30 or noon.  It was around 60 degrees so they had the windows of the place open. It gave the restaurant the airy sort of island vibe.

I was greeted by a man behind the counter. He had a Jamaican accent, he was friendly.  Hanging on the wall, they had a paper plate with the days specials written on it.  I noticed ackee and salt cod.  This being a popular breakfast choice in Jamaica.
With the ackee and nice tasty pieces of cod, there were starchy pieces of plantains and i believe yuca.

It was a large plate of food for 5 or 6 bucks.   Food came out quickly, the space is comfortable, i had a very positive experience.  Will certainly go bak for that.

Buff Patty is okay.  I think it can satisfy a craving, but I'm not sure if it can stand on its own.

I was on my way to pilates class on Myrtle Avenue and walked by Buff Patty.  It looks like your typical take-out Jamaican place, but with nicer tables (with table clothes, yes, quite extraordinary).  I stopped in on my way back from class.  I was craving some Callaloo and Saltfish with Fried Dumplings.  Unfortunately, they were out of fried dumplings [insert sad face].  I opted for the Callaloo with "food" (as Jamaicans call it) -- or boiled banana, yam and dumplings.  It was just okay.  It wasn't very flavorful, they definitely skimped on the fish, and the boiled dumpling was a little on the soggy side.   But, overall, it satisfied my craving.

I might give it a try for a couple other entrees if I'm in the vicinity.

The food is pretty good. They are well aware of the fact that there aren't any other restaurants on Myrtle Ave like them. They take advantage of that. The customer service could use some work and the delivery service sucks terribly. Ordered my food at 5pm and I'm still waiting at 7:56pm. But like I said in the beginning, the food is good just go get it yourself.

Order your lunch two hours before you're actually hungry because that's how long it'll take for your food to arrive if you buy delivery.  I'm new to this area now that I'm working in the Brooklyn Naval Yard, but man I must say, compared to midtown the prices out here are fantastic.  I had the jerk chicken and it came with plantains, rice and beans, salad, and of course the chicken.  The servings were large and everything was very tasty.  I will say however the jerk chicken was over cooked as it was dry.

One word: Authentic.  Great Jamaican food.  The jerk chicken and curry chicken are my usual staples.  The chicken is moist and the rice and peas are delicious.  The patties are also really good.  They are made fresh in the store.  I usually go with the beef or the jerk chicken.  Good place for a quick bite.

I tried Buff Patty because I was really feenin' for some Jamaican food.  My first experience with Jamaican food was at The Islands in Prospect Heights.  'nuff said.

I ordered the curry chicken with rice and peas which came with plantains and steamed veggies.  As an appetizer, I had a chicken patty.  Meh.  The chicken patty lacked that Jamaican flavor that you get from spices and the kick from the scotch bonnet pepper.  Same with the curry chicken.  The plantains however, were excellent.  The rice and peas as well as the veggies were pretty average, nothing outstanding.

BF had stewed chicken with white rice and a beef patty as well as the plantains and veggies.  He liked his stewed chicken but I feel like I tasted no spices, just lots and lots of bell pepper.  The beef patty tasted almost identical to the chicken patty, it was just beef instead of chicken.

It's inexpensive and you'll have tons of leftovers, but it's just not authentic Jamaican food.  With The Islands right over in Prospect Heights, there is no need to eat at Buff Patty.

I was on the way to a Greek restaurant on Lafayette but couldn't find parking I doubled to head to the pita house.  We found a parking spot in front of Buff Patty's and we needed quarters so we went inside to get change.  The ladies didn't look like they would give us change so we looked at the menu and it looked good.  I asked the lady for change and told her we needed to feed the meter so we could eat there.

I ordered the ox tails medium lunch $9.50, 1st buddy ordered the jerk chicken medium lunch, and 2nd buddy ordered the beef stew medium lunch.  All dishes had the rice w/ peas, veggies, and fried bananas.  I think the chicken dish was $8.50 and the stew was $9.00.  Each dish with a soda was $10.00 +.  The food was good/tasty and we were happy with our meals.  We all thought the price was a tab bit high for the food given.  I would say 3/4 of the plates were the rice/peas/veggies/bananas and the other 1/4 was the meat.

As I was eating my meal, I kept staring at the beef patties, so I decided to get one.  I ask if she had mild or hot; and the lady told me, they're all mild.  How can you be call a patty place if you don't have a spicy flavor.  The crust was a little soggy but has a good amount of filling.  I have gone to Golden Crust plenty of times and I would always get the spicy beef patty.  I always found the crust to be flaky but a small amount of filling.

All in all, it was OK.

A $1.75 for a beef patty? $2.25 for a beef patty wrapped in coco bread? What more could you possibly ask for?!

The beef had a bit of a kick to it and the pastry it was wrapped in was flaky. I thought the patties were double the size of Golden Krust's and as a quick snack I was more than content. I plan to be back to try their platters.

I thought the patties were amazing. I think this is a better option than your corner Golden Krust.. I had the Jerk Chicken and Veggie patties.. both were tasty and fresh!
I also ordered a chicken soup that was ok. Not enough pepper to my likening ..but it did the job. You should definitely check out Buff if you're in the neighborhood.

Definitely not the best patties around.

Service? Ha. I have called for delivery, and been put on hold for half an hour. Multiple times. Nobody smiles at me. I receive grunts as responses. I can't help but wonder if it's because I'm not West Indian.

I will say that the patties are satisfying, but sometimes I find  myself wondering why the hell I've walked from work to be treated in such a way for a mediocre beef patty. I guess a girl just needs that West Indian treat once in a blue moon.

I could go on about the steamy, uncomfortable, dark space, but let's be real. When you want a patty, you're not looking for ambience.  You sure as hell aren't getting it here.

    Buff Patty...you gotta shape up!

Apparently I've converted people to this place by recommending them for catering to our club event.

The jerk chicken and the macaroni and cheese were the best sellers. (mac and cheese especially). They're completely budget friendly, nice and perfect for finger food catering too.

I tried the jerk chicken and patties. I like the jerk chicken more. Though I really want to go try the mac and cheese and the curried goat. Woots!

This was my first time trying Jamaican food; I wanted to see how it compared to Spanish Caribbean food and Salvadoran. They were out of the distinctly Jamaican dishes such as calaloo (collards) and salt cod with acki, so I had the vegetarian dish.  For about $6, I was able to fill up on a good sized portion of curried potatoes, carrots, and broccoli over rice and beans, with a side of cabbage and a sweet, fried platano. Que rico! I was able to spice it up with some strong tabasco- type red pepper sauce. The rice and beans is similar to Salvadoran casamiento, but not as greasy and sticky. I washed it all down with a can of coconut water. They have homemade ginger beer and a variety of exotic drinks in the fridge, but at 230 calories a bottle, I didn't indulge.
The staff was very friendly, and they kindly answered all of  my stupid questions.
So if you like mildly spiced dishes that taste like a marriage of Indian and Central American cuisines, then you should try this place. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Brooklyn.

    Buff Patty's

I swear to fucking god, best little BBQ fried chicken pieces on the planet. How do they know that anything that comes in the wax paper little bags equates to dirty delicious? The pieces have this generous amount of fried goodness and fat with sweet sauce to cover. SOoooo good. Thank you lord.

You can't miss the name in lights outside the building. You might think you'd want to, but no way. The ladies are sooo nice and you will love them even more when you start to eat what they are preparing.

The eponymous patties are of course good and the meals always make me smile. There's a lot of love in this little restaurant.

Jamaican baby, Buff Patties doesn't mess around.

Some good stuff they have over at the Buff.

Just like Angela, I've also tried the patties and the curry chicken and I really liked it.  Yes, portions are pretty large for how much they charge you.  I was completely full off the lunch-size portion.

Another one of many little joints on Mrytle that usually goes unnoticed/tried.

O.K. the food is not terribly spicy. There's none of that tongue-throbbing pain pushing you toward ordering another overly sweet Jamaican soda.  But the food here still works.

The medium is a nice sized dinner. I went with the jerk chicken, and received what might be the equivalent of a three piece meal. A drumstrick, and then plenty of breast meat. It had that wonderful allspice taste, with moist, smoky meat. It came with cabbage (couldn't care less), rice (good) and plantains (hit the right balance between crispy and cooked). The orange soda I purchased proved unnecessary but tasty -it was bottled in Kingston and came to the store through a local distributor.

This is a takeaway establishment -food is placed in a neatly folded paper bag unless specifically requested, and there's no waiter service. There are three tables in the front and two counters for those dining in, however. One of the tables seats six, so feel free to bring a group. The line moved quickly -ten people in ten minutes.

Perhaps the best thing about this place is the lived-in vibe. It's dark and barely decorated, with six or seven menus announcing various food offerings, from the soup of the day to the size of the different platters. The cheap tables can be pushed together or space apart as the clientele demands.

It's not a place I come for my birthday, or bring a first date, but it's a nice everyday place.

    Jerk chicken patty.  Go.  Now.

Plus, really friendly service - they'll walk you through the dishes if you don't know what everything is.  Soups are great, too.

People like Christie's for patties but I swear they must jack them up with MSG because I ballooned up after one of those.  Ick.  Not a pretty sight!

Jerk chicken wings are top. Barbecue chicken pieces (i think they call them buff patty fried chicken) are second. Roti is third (and weighs more than your head).

Fried Chicken - could be fresher.
    Patties -  didn't look great so i didn't try
    Desserts - looked even worse...

It took just shy of 2 hours to receive my delivery.  I called an hour after ordering, they said it was on the way.  I called 30min later and they said the same thing.  I was just about to order elsewhere and it finally arrived.
    Rediculous.

The food was very good.  Jerk chicken excellent, Goat curry roti was hunormous and delicious, whiting was good.  But, I don't think i can order again knowing it can take 2 hours to get my order!

This is a great little one room joint in Fort Greene. It's run by an extremely friendly Jamaican couple who have been running shop on Myrtle for close to a decade.
Their jerk chicken wings are $3 for half a dozen and they're delicious--crispy, salty and just a little spicy, too. I tried all three kinds of patties that contained animals (the vegetarian patties will have to wait for...never). The pastry crust is rich and flaky and the fillings are delicious. The chicken and beef patties (1.50 each) were a little bit thin, but the shrimp patty (2.50) was full and satisfying.
But the best part of my meal was certainly the curried goat. You can get a small (one pint of goat, rice, and beans) for $6, and it's out of this world. Spicy, rich, tender goat meat that's clearly been slow-cooked for a long time. I'll definitely be back for all of the above, and when the weather gets nice I'll hit it up and take my spoils to Fort Greene park, a block away.

p.s. wow this is my 100th review

Went to Buff Patty to check out their namesake.  On my first visit I happily enjoyed a beef patty, one of my favorite snacks.  The pastry is tasty ans so is the filling, however I do find the consistency of the fill a bit too close to cat food.  A larger die on their meat processor would make a world of difference.

On the second visit I tried the jerk chicken patty, hoping to find some chunks of meat and maybe a potato or pea but clearly the fine mince is the look they are going for.  Nonetheless, tasty and satisfying for a quick snack.

Third visit is when I found my dish - the curry chicken roti!  The curry was great, lots of meat and I liked that yam and potato combo.  My husband had the jerk chicken, which was ok.  The rice and peas that come with the jerk are excellent.

Next time I will try to order the curry chicken over the rice & peas...I hope thats allowed because I totally hear everyone else yelpin about the service - -  QUESTIONABLE.  And no way will I be ordering delivery!  Good thing its just down the block ;)

buff patty offers an assortment of authentic jamaican dishes that unfortunately do not meet my flavor expectations as a person of jamaican descent.

some dishes are okay, such as the jerk chicken, one of the only orders that promises at least 1 piece of white meat. it packs sufficient heat, but more often than not, you'll wind up with a drumstick - which is a less than desirable piece of meat in my opinion.

the curry chicken has become dramatically watered down since i first tried their food 5 years ago. the meat is often brown and red inside, which is disgusting. in addition, the flavor is severely lacking.

the patties are inconsistent; sometimes the crust is puffy, pale and nearly raw; other times it's thin, dark orangish, and flaky, the ideal for patty crust.

i also dislike the inconsistency with which they prepare plates. typically, a small order should come with rice, cabbage and 2 slices of plaintain, but when they run out of plaintain (which is often) they neglect to mention it and you are lucky if your plate contains 1.

the service people used to show you your food prior to bagging it, but they seem to skip that courtesy these days, hurriedly shoving your food into a brown paper bag to avoid dealing with your disappointment. requests for gravy on rice are most always ignored completely. i find that the female staff is particularly rude and unyielding.

delivery is slow, so pick up whenever possible.

bottom line: delve further into brooklyn if you're seeking great-tasting jamaican eats. this place routinely raises its prices while the food quality steadily worsens. that must be how they managed to buy those flat screen tvs.

First of all, their prices are all wrong on menupages and even their take-out menu! Everything is more expensive than it specifies. Second of all, they keep their patty's in a WARMER just like the ones you would see in a gas station!! What kind of 'authentic' Jamaican place keeps their beef pattys in a warmer sitting out on the counter?? Needless to say, they tasted like they'd been sitting there all day. The beef patty seemed like it would have been good had it been fresh, but the jerk chicken patty was terrible. And the mac & cheese must have been from the bottom of the pan since 1/2 of it was literally just burned crusty cheese. As for the service, the woman taking the orders seemed like we were bothering her and then tried to over charge us for the food, and insisted that she was right until we counted it out for her. Never going back!!!!
