One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
Man, oh man, does this place have some YUMMMMMMMY empanadas. They are so cheap when you consider that 2 or 3 are a meal. I defy all but the pickiest of eaters to only pick 2 or 3, though. Pizza's good too and the service has always been fantastic. There's a big room downstairs that's great for groups. I arranged a dinner for 40+ people and they had many converts once it was over.
All I have to say is that we are lucky to actually have a good Argentinian restaurant in Denver where anything south of the border is lumped into being Mexican food. The pizza is a bit different, in a good way. Authentic to the influences that are Argentinian food.....carne!.
I really appreciate how they serve you with great bread and chimichurri sauce(green stuff) when you sit down. Also, having has authentic empanadas I would say that theirs are on par. They have a decent wine list for a pizza place and serve the good bottled Coke with real sugar.
Also, The prices are very reasonable.
I am on a personal mission to find the best pizza in Denver and contrary to the reviews before me this is not it.
The crust reminds me of a flat bread instead of a crust. Now for some and probably a lot of people that kind of crust is ideal. I'm an east coast girl that resided in Italy for 3 years so I love a thin chew-ish crust. I love a fresh tomato sauce, lighter cheese, fresh spices & a little bit of charcoal taste... trust me it's the best way. Unfortunately for me this place just doesn't fit the bill.
I also tried an empanada from here. Big disappointment. I thought that empanadas were supposed to be gooey on the inside and crispy on the outside. Mine was almost the opposite.
I maybe back to try their gelato but as far as pizza goes Buenos Aires is out.
Bomb pizza AND gelato? Shut your mouth!
No open it. And eat, and eat, and eat, and eat.
And smile.
We say this restaurant featured on Unwrapped on the Food Network so we decided to check it out. It is close to Coors Field it is also close to many food/homeless shelters so it is not in the best neighborhood especially at night. Plan accordingly.
There are really two parts to this restaurant. A dine-in and take-out. They are right next to each other. So if you go in one and looks a bit on the tiny side then you need to go next door. Fortunately, when we made this mistake the staff was nice enough to redirect our clueless selves.
The menu has a variety of empanadas, salads, pasta, sandwiches, pizza, and Gelato. This restaurant was featured for its empanadas and you should definitely try one. They are small and won't make a meal for you unless you order quite a few of them. Best served as an appetizer. Try the Chorizo empanada but all of them that we tried were tasty..
There is a wide variety of pizzas to choose from some of which have ingredients that are a bit wild. You can also order any pizza with either tomato sauce or olive oil as sauce. There should be a pizza to satisfy almost anyone. The pizza is served on a thin crust. Good food but a bit over priced.
Empanadas rock. This is truth, Ruth.
We tried four, and found the Beef Picante and the Corn outstanding. The Chorizo was fine, though I'd have liked a bit more spice, and the Hawaiian was good, but not as good. They were spectacular overall and I can't image going back without having more.
Also tried the Buenos Aires pizza, which was good. I'd try more pizza's there, but the empanadas trump.
The gelato was also excellent. We tried several, and to me the Blueberry (ice-based, not cream, so I think technically not gelato) was terrific.
Strange that they only sell soda in bottles for $2. Someone should explain margins...
This place is great. Treat yourself. Have the empanadas.
This is a 4-start review knocked to 3 stars for 2 reasons:
1. no free WiFi
2. no soda fountain, only $2/container soda
The empanadas are great. We order 5 different ones for lunch and all were delicious.
Service was very good.
The patio was very relaxing.
I love empanadas, but I don't make them at home because they are a lot of work if you just want to feed a few people. My mouth was watering while eating my lunch.
This place has the best pizza and empanada's I've ever had - I know, I know, big statement, but after years of pizza hut and papa johns high quality stuff - I think I'm pretty qualified to make my "best pizza ever" statement.
Get the signature pizza - the "buenos aires" - they can substitute the pork for chicken very easily. Where else can you get heart of palm and salsa golf on a pizza: sounds funky, but it's amazing.
oh - start with the empanadas, get any of them: you can't go wrong.
step 3, wash it all down with some sangria. Prices are super reasonable, staff is great, and food can't be beat.
Step 4 (for those feeling indulgent): get some of their gelato - great stuff.
Two other reasons to visit:
1. they have a patio now
2. they have a parking lot across the street
How could I have forgotten to review this place?!
My only experience here was a pizza that I had for take-out one evening, so this is not a reflection of the atmosphere or dining experience.
My friend invited a few of us over to his place for some drinks, and on our way over we stopped and picked up the "Tropical" pie he had ordered.
The Superb: The combination of flavors worked. I was shocked. Orange (they tasted like mandarin oranges to me) on a pizza? Who'd have known!?!
The Average: The crust. I am a very picky pizza-eater and while the pizza was tasty, the crust was a bit too dense, too thick, and overall a bit of a distraction.
The Poor: Nothing really.
I think the next time I am back in Denver, I may have to give this a go again. After all, everyone mentions the empanadas and great service, and I clearly missed out on BOTH of those!
I'll give their pizza 3 stars...the crust was not my thing, but it wasn't too bad overall. The empanadas are most definitely a 5-star treat. It was too difficult to limit our order to just a few, and as a result we took a ton of food home. Next time I will just stick with these and skip the pizza. Every flavor we tried was delicous and the empanada dough was perfectly crusty yet soft. I could easily make a meal out of two orders. For only a few dollars each, you can't go wrong. Can't wait to come back for the gelato. The service was excellent, very friendly.
The empanadas are my favorite thing at BA. The atmosphere is great, and the service is good. I like the pizza toppings/ingredients they offer, and the crust is alright.
The pizza doesn't live up to my unreasonably high expectations of Latin America-inspired pizza, which I developed in Brazil, where the pies are literally a slice of heaven. BA uses more cheese than I prefer, and the crust is just a tad thicker than pizza I've enjoyed in the Jardins district of Sao Paulo (which I still crave, it was so light and tasty). That said, BA is highly recommended for a Denver version of South American pizza.
Before a full evening of bike riding me and a few people in good company, went here for dinner. I was my frist time being there, but everyone else I was with had been there before.
With a first order of a pitcher of sangria, we were all good to go. Then some salads and empanadas came. Then, of course the pizza came. I sampled all of the delciousness in front of me. We got the Hawiian pizza with ham and pineapple. My boyfriend got a Margarita empanada, full of cheese, basil, and tomatoes. Oh my, oh so very good! And I don't even like ham on my pizza! But the empanada was the best part. Yummmmmm. The service was very nice, too!
I noticed their amazing selection of gelato on the menu, as well as Tres Leches Cake (which I am an absolute addict for) but we were in a hurry and didn't get to have dessert so I guess I will next time!
I love empanadas - not the "hot pocket" kind you find at some places, but real homemade crusty on the outside, hot and gooey on the inside kind. After reading many of my fellow Yelpers reviews of Buenos Aires, I couldn't wait to check it out.
The hype is deserved - the empanadas are great, especially the ham and blue cheese and the mushroom and red pepper - mmmmmmmm!
The patio is small but pleasant and the service was understated but attentive. The prices are very reasonable - just two bucks per pie. My tummy was pretty happy after just two. Located close to Coors Field, I'd suggest dining there when you know there is no game.
I would love to try the pizza but I'm not sure I'll be able to ever get past those delectable little pies.
If you can't afford to go to South America, I'd recommend Buenos Aires Pizzeria as suitable alternative.
I'm not a huge fan of the pizza (go around the corner for pizza) but I LOVE the empanadas and the grill-press sandwiches. My favorite is the Cuban. This is one of the better Cuban sandwiches I have had.
Such a charming place....I could sit in there for hours!!! The empanadas and papas fritas are AMAZING!! Pizza is tasty also....maybe one of the best in Denver.
Since most people agree that this place is a gem, I'll just throw in some more suggestions on what to order.
Empanadas: About 3 and a slice of pizza is a huge meal.
The margarita is excellent.
Blue cheese, ham, and tomato has an excellent balance of flavor.
Beef picante is delicious too.
Canastitas:
All the veggie ones are good.
I would stay away from the tuna and salmon ones, I found them to be fishy.
As for the appetizers (small plates), I found the Higos Envueltos to be especially tasty and would recommend them.
Another good thing about this place is that you can order any of their pizzas by the slice. I would highly suggest the Chori and Belgrano under the tomato based and the San Isidro and Crudo for the olive oil pizza.
The gelato is wonderful- especially the golden kiwi if you want to try something sweet and not too tart.
I have one word for you empanadas. They are freaking delicious. I mean I had tried the empanadas at Buenos Aires Grill before so I knew they'd be good, but I had no idea the variety that they offered at the pizzeria. I tried corn, Chicken Margarita, Chorizo, Regular Margarita, and Blue Cheese, Ham, and Tomato and there wasn't one that I would hesitate to eat again. In fact, what are you doing right now? Want to go get an empanada?
I got mine to go so I didn't get to enjoy the cozy dining area, but I can say I'll be back for sure to do so.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I agree with Tiffany's great review ...
The empanadas are simply delicious here! You can mix and match the various kinds. Some are vegetarian and some have plenty of meat. I took them to a summer cocktail party last year and they were a huge success ~ everyone loved them!
Not to mention, the staff is darling (and helpful) :)
Their bacon wrapped dates (in BBQ sauce), which oh-so-thankfully survived the terrible fall of Buenos Aires Grill, are still present on this menu. Thank GOD. I think I am beginning to understand how heroin addicts feel.
If you do not order them, you are a fool. Its guaranteed to be the best $4 you will ever spend in your life. Chewy, crunchy, sweet and salty goodness. A more perfect food has never existed.
Moving on...I think I will be in the minority here, but I was disappointed in their pizza. It was overly cheesy and greasy, and the crust was nothing special. Maybe that's how they make pizza in Argentina?
Setting is fun, noisy and casual. Their gelato comes in a bajillion flavors and is the perfect ending to a meal.
I'll be back to get my bacon wrapped date fix, and maybe I'll try the empanadas and sandwiches next time.
Read all the rave reviews so, shuttled and walked to Buenos Aires Pizzeria from my downtown hotel on the COLDEST day of the year so far.
Hmmm. 2 or 3 empanadas make a meal?? They are a little larger than a potsticker - I'm sorry, but I eat more than that. I had a Hawaiana empanada (expecting it to be larger) and it was, hmm, ok. The pizza was good, but by the time I walked 6 blocks back to the Mall, then took the bus to Tremont, then walked 3 more blocks to my hotel, it was barely lukewarm. (I told the man at the counter I had a long walk, hoping he'd add some foil to the bag, but no luck.)
So, maybe their food is better when hot, but it certainly wasn't worth the trek on foot from my hotel.
Went over today and tried Buenos Aires to test out these famous empanadas. I ordered a blue cheese and onion. chicken margarita, and spinach and cheese. While I was waiting for my order, the waitress brought over amazing bread. Light and crispy on the outside, and had some herbs baked in. Came with an awesome chimicurri-like dipping sauce. I had to stop myself from eating the whole thing and ruin my appetite for the empanadas!
The empanadas came, and they were amazing. HOT! (temp not spicy) and they have a flaky crisp crust. I should have just ordered two there was so much food! The best part is the price: six bucks and some change for three empanadas that stuffed me. Its a steal!
Yes, Please! This is a restaurant that knows what they are doing. I have ordered my own pizzas or taken suggestions from the staff on various items and everyone has been delightful. People always seem to go in groups of 4 or more, probably because it's so good you want to share it with friend. Even with all the groups, the tables are spaced and atmosphere set for a great experience.
Buenos Aires Pizzeria is a cool name, it just rolls off the tongue so nice and the food rolls down to your tummy even better.
And I thought I was up on the Denver restaurant scene . . . but until today hadn't tried a Buenos Aires empanada. Shame on me. Shame on you if you haven't checked this place out.
Beyond reasonably priced. The place is a deal and a half. Unusually good eats served by unusually nice servers. (Next time I'm trying out the much touted bacon wrapped dates, and to get my nutritional dose a dairy, a gelato for dessert:-). Salud!
You MUST eat the Buenos Aires eggplant pizza before you die. It will change. your. life.
The service here is absurdly friendly, you can always find a reasonably priced glass of wine, and the pizza and empanadas are just plain delicious.
When I heard that Buenos Aires Grill was closing, I was scared. Scared that it also meant the demise of Buenos Aires Pizza (or BAPizza to the initiated). I've eaten in for lunch a few times - love love love the service and the vibe.
But more importantly, I've gotten take out and delivery. I first learned of BAPizza around the corner at Whiskey Bar. We were jonesing for some eats after a particularly active happy hour, and were presented with the BA menu by the bartender. Ordered some empanadas..... and thereafter went to heaven...... Since then, I've had them about once a month, and yes, I've found my favorites:
Spicy Beef - incredible, but a little too spicy for this gringo. Includes green olives and hard boiled eggs. Very Argentinian, from what I hear.
Beef - what I can eat. Same yummies.
Chicken margarita - Stuffed to the brim with chicken! Unreal.
Mushroom - Yummy for you veggies.
and the Richest. Empanda. Ever........ Onion and Bleu Cheese. Its the best thing I've had to eat in ages, but so rich that I can't eat more than one at a sitting.....
If you get delivery at home, or pick up, Just throw them on a baking sheet in your 450 degree oven for about 5-8 mins for a warm up. I'd also recommend having some chimichurri on hand.
Viva la BAPizza!!
Great place - great people - give this place a chance.
Don't take my word for it, try the empanadas for yourself.
oh, and gelato!
I got a chance to meet a couple of the owners (this is a real family place) and they were just the sweetest people (and good-looking!) that you've ever met.
Oh, and, my rainbow friends: this is a queer friendly establishment!!
The empenadas here are amazing, their pizza list is crazy and the best part is that you can order them by the slice. The empenadas come out nice and hot, but not so hot that they will fill your mouth with lava. They are savory and sooo good. The 4 stars is because there are a few empenadas that sound more appetizing than they really are. The eggplant sounded amazing but was kind of weird.
It is a cool spot to go to and gelato for dessert. The golden kiwi is tart but really freaking good. I think it's awesome that this is a family place and they are amazingly nice people. Really chill and down to earth, I'd go just for the great service and friendly attitudes
mmmmmmmmm!
A friend just stopped into Denver for a quick visit and we ended up at BAP for dinner. Our group of 9 started with empanadas (Oh my god, do not miss these) and then moved on to pizza and sandwiches.
The empanadas are the CLEAR star here at BAP but the pizza is no slouch. The crust is lovely, thin in the middle and thicker at the edges and wonderfully chewy without being tough. The toppings are unique and wonderful, for something different try the Humita, a deliciously rich combo of corn, green onions and white sauce.
Also on the don't-miss list is the Clericot, a white wine version of Sangria. The clericot at BAP is sweet, light and entirely refreshing for a warm evening.
I skipped the gelato but a number of the party opted in, all servings, including a generous large were finished in record time.
I am from Buenos Aires, and i must say that The empanadas are the best I've had in the US. I've had better pizza but there are many different styles and the toppings are high quality.
However, the gelato takes the prize. Creamy, well done and just the way Argentines do it. Once you try it, you WILL get back for more.
I really really like dining in at Buenos Aires Pizza. I like the spartan appointment of the room, the gracious servers, and if you read my previous review you know I already like the out of the ordinary pies. I half hesitantly ordered the namesake Buenos Aires pie (because of the salsa golf = ketchup + mayo) but I knew several of my friends rec'd it so it must be a safe bet. It was and then some. It's a great combination of flavors and textures. The trapiche malbec wine is tasty and nicely priced, if you save room the tres leches cake is rich and nicely lightly sweet, and their espresso is rich and smooth. I was going to eat here regardless but Mike the manager took care of our credit for a pie and was exceptionally nice and on top of that busy dining room with flair and a smile. Did I say I really really like BAP? There's a lot to explore on the deceptively simple menu and I'm ready for some exploration. How could I miss the bacon wrapped figs? Dammit!

Okay quick. You're in the old building that used to hold the Mori Japanese restaurant for an event.… Read more »
OK - I might be a bit biased being a Porteña who longs for good empanadas, beef, Argentine style Pizza, and a Quilmes beer, topped off with some granizado de dulce de leche - but this place is da Bomb! The pizza is damned good and the gelato to die for! If you can't make the trip to Argentina, just head down to Buenos Aires Pizzeria and you might as well be at your local neighbourhood restaurant in BA... The only detractor for me will be if I find out they are Boca fans - then might have to give them one less star...
We have been wanting to try BA Pizzeria for quite some time...since I read about it on the Post's website when I was living far from Denver for a year. Our friends had already been here, and they were bugging us to go with them, so we finally found the perfect night to go. After a great day of skiing, we met up at BA for some grub.
First of all, we each ordered an empenada to share. I had the chicken margarita, my wife the blue cheese and onion. Our friends ordered the chorizo and the margarita to round out the lot. Each one of them was fantastic! I would never think to have blue cheese and onion in an empenada, but it was fabulous. The blue cheese was not too strong, which is fine by me.
Then we moved onto the pizza. We shared the Buenos Aires (with ham, hearts of palm, red pepper, and hard boiled egg) and the one with bacon and corn on it. Sweet Baby Jesus were they good! Plenty of cheese, and the toppings, oh the toppings. They sound odd, but damn they were good. Apparently, the hard boiled egg is shredded onto the pizza or something like that, because I expected big round slices and saw none. And the bacon and corn pizza was like an awesome corn muffin wrapped in bacon and then covered with mozzerella.
Unfortunately, no one had room for dessert. Next time, and probably the time after that...and after that...
I upgraded them to 4, went again and had better service!
-------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------
I liked some of the items on the menu, really authentic. The prices are 5 stars (you REALLY get your moneys worth) but I only gave it 3 stars (and I know this sounds petty) but the waitress wasn't all that friendly and they serve their sodas our of plastic bottles...
I will try this place again in the future and if I have better service will upgrade the stars.
Right next door to a good friend, and reasonably priced great pies!
The two empanadas I had (chorizo and cheese and spinach and cheese) were both fantastic, but I'd be lying if I said they were as good as the ones I had in Buenos Aires. The dates wrapped in bacon were awesome and my slice of cheese and proscuitto pizza was excellent as well, amd very big for the price. My $5 glass of Trapiche chardonney took me back to my time in Mendoza and the service was great.
I was a little dissapointed in my dulce de leche crape though. It just tasted off, more sicky sweet than caramely and the ice cream was unimpressive. But my friend and I gorged ourselves for $20, so I'd definately come back and maybe just skip dessert.
Again with the Happy Hour reviews- this joint has cheap Quilmes (oooo! 'The" beer of Argentina) and empanadas. Two-fers, last time I was in. The pizza is original and very good, the building is very pretty (it was a hotel in the early 1900's).
There is but one reason to return.
Homemade Gelato. In the summertime, I visit twice a week or so. The poor adorable young men that work the counter probably think I am pregnant.
I don't care, the gelato at Buenos Aires is totally euro style and delicious. And cheap. Because that's how I roll.
This place is pretty good. They have a great variety of pizzas, empanadas and there is a cuban sandwich on the menu as well. All of the ingredients seemed very fresh and everything tasted really really good. Melanie had the spinach and cheese empanada and a margarita empanada. Trav went for the Napolitina pizza but with out olives.
Really good food and excellent service. According to my Argentinian friend, the food is very authentic as well.
The empanadas are amazing, you are wasting your time if you don't get an order.
We stumbled upon this place one day after fleeing the lame-o Cherry Blossom festival. Empanadas are super yummy. And those garlic fries, oh my, those were tasty. And they bring you this adorable little round bread with delicious olive oil dipping sauce. The menu and atmosphere is unique - on the smaller side and more for a casual meal than a nice dinner out. The hubs had some sausage thingy in a sauce he was dying over. Would highly recommend it.
This place is the shiz!!! My wife and I went here with a local friend and absolutely loved it.
We all got empenadas (chorizo for me, ham and cheese for my wife, and beef for our friend), and split a small panceta pizza. Mmmm!!!! Too bad we don't have one of these in Los Angeles, otherwise I'd be eating empenadas everyday!!
Service was quick and excellent. Our server, Nicole, was the bomb!!
