Mojitos, beef, and some tango, what more could you ask for?
Empenadas you say? Well order all of them. The carne, the lamb, the corn and fontina cheese, all in those flaky golden little pouches. Delicious.
Think beef is boring? Well what cut would you like? The buttery tender fillet? The perfectly cooked ribeye? The intensely flavorful Cuadril? Or maybe the Paradilla? Sausages, sweetbreads, short ribs oh my!
And you say its just another mojito? Please, they should bag these up and sell them as IV's.
Great for a date on Friday with the dancers flying around the room, and on the bar. Or great with a group of friends who need to enjoy some great food. Either way, just have a mojito, it will all better after that.
Soon after Buenos Aires trip plans fell through, I was soo excited to find Buenos Aires Grill! Can't get the amazing meat in Buenos Aires, then go to Seattle, right?
WRONG. I was so disappointed. After an HOUR waiting for our food to arrive, I thought anything would taste amazing! Wrong again. We ordered the parrillada for two ($35 each, including chicken, skirt steak, sausage, sweet bread, short ribs, flank steak), rack of lamb, and ojo de bife (rib eye). The rib eye came on a its own plate, while the lamb came on the grill with the parrillada. We ate off of these kinda cool wooden cutting board-like things.
Everything we ate had the same, bland, charred (sometimes quite burned) flavor. I can appreciate some smokey, charred flavor but this...some of it was hard to eat, if not inedible! The lamb, rib eye, sweet bread, and short ribs were ok. The chicken was horribly dry and bland (take the option that you can switch anything in the parrillada and don't get the chicken!!), skirt steak and flank steak were the more burned ones. With this much meat, some greens are a must! We had the spinach, which was a tiny plate, but was tasty.
All in all, this is an expensive place at about $50 a person, for less than mediocre food. Unfortunately, I'd def choose Brazilian or Korean BBQ over this.
Think back to the last time you fell in love with someone new. After spending the day or night with them, you can't help but smile like a giddy retard when you realize you can still smell them on your clothes or your pillow. You take them in and let out a little sigh of smitten kitten happiness.
That's kind of how I feel this morning as I am sniffing at my own hair and smelling the smokey, meaty goodness that was my dinner here last night! Hey, I fall in love with food, what of it!?!
The moment I walked in here last night, I knew I was going to be happy. Having started the evening with wine and cheese and a few teaser meats and then having moved on to classic cocktails at Zig Zag, the promise of meat was the cherry on the Night Two Seattle Sundae.
But now, what magical meat plate to tackle? They all looked so good, it was near impossible to choose. Which is why I started with the Proveleta. Happy happy cheese cheese. This bad boy arrives scorched and oooey and goooey and perfectly baked in an oven of love. They serve it with 4 pieces of bread, but those go rather quick and by the end of the dish, you will be thrusting your fork into this cheese abyss with reckless abandon and you'll love every minute of it!
After some careful deliberation, we decided to share a steak and the mixed grill and this is the deal right here! Several kinds of meat, short ribs, sausage and other surprises that will leave your soul happy. We also went with a nice peppery red that completed the meaty circle of life and all was well in the world.
The place was pretty empty and the service was a little slow at first, but once you set meat and cheese in front of me, who gives a rat's ass how slow the service is. I am a happy girl.
First of all, I had the hardest time finding this place. For some reason two of the addresses I found online were false, which led us on a bit of a scavenger hunt around downtown looking for it. Being adventurous, we managed to enjoy it and were pretty damn excited once we actually found it.
My husband and I were there on a Tuesday night for his birthday and were one of only a few parties in there. I'd love to go back on a tango night.
We both tried to get something that we wouldn't find as easily someplace else and settled on the Brochette de Carne and the Medio Pollo al Limon. I know, I kind of cheated - it's not hard to find a half chicken, but they managed to make it unique and incredibly flavorful.
The steak was cooked perfectly and the sweet potato fries were AWESOME. I absolutely adored them and could've eaten two plates full. But instead, I respected the limits of my stomach and we packaged them to go. They were good the next day, too.
Oh, we also got the crepes which were intensely sweet and something that was new for me. If you are a fan of sweet things, you'll have to get this for dessert.
All in all, a wonderful meal, though like I said, I'd love to make it to one of the tango nights so I can enjoy that atmosphere.
Outback Steak House would have been better. OK the atmosphere was nice and the wait staff was friendly but come on I would expect it to be better than going to your neighborhood Denny's. So I ordered the fillet medium rare and perhaps the size made a difference but the meat was cold and almost rubbery. Honestly I could not finish it. I should have sent it back but well what ever. I have had a fair share of fillets at comparable restaurants and the meat would melt in your mouth not fell like jello. I would be hard pressed to go there again even to give it a chance
This place is always a special treat to go to. It's a bit on the expensive side so I don't go often. It's great for a large group. Get the personal BBQ for your group. You get individual bbq's put on your table with a whole heap of meat on them- lots of different kinds to try. The potatoes they have as a side are also very delicious. If your drooling for some meat this is a great place to go! You will walk away with enough protein for a week. :)
I know 99% of your experience in any given place is due to the people you're with, and I was with the man I loved on an anniversary. But I strongly believe that even if I hadn't been, I would have loved this HOT SOUTH AMERICAN BEEF.
It's definitely not the most cost effective night out, but our cuts of cow were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and we were really happy with the wine list. It was a surprisingly romantic atmosphere for a steakhouse, and I later found out you can get some pretty killer discounts on Buenos Aires gift certificates at http://Restaurant.com.
The one nagging point is that service was not that speedy. But for how popular it is, I can forgive that.
Disclaimer: I haven't had the steak or anything-- this is for the BAR.
THE BAR RULED. The happy hour food prices are great. The happy hour beer prices could be better. The only beer they had when I was there was Blue Moon. Blue Moon is one of my favorite beers. Can't complain.
The calamari was fine. No different than any other calamari, I think. But it came with a sauce. And this sauce was kind of sweet and really very delicious.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE: The bartender, Pedro, is one of the nicest, most patient and personable bartenders I've ever encountered. I love this guy. He's the kind of guy that you tip 50% because he humors you and allows you to loiter at his bar for hours, drinking water and picking at your happy hour food. He's a good dude. I hope his bosses read this: Pedro is a good dude.
I lived in northern Argentina for several years, and can attest to the authenticity of the food and ambiance at BAG. The food (and wine) is absolutely wonderful.
Yet the service is uneven, at best.
Most of the servers are attentive, efficient, and friendly. However, one waiter (possibly the owner?) is so rude and condescending that it nearly ruined the experience for us.
We will not be going back.
I had been here a few times back in the 2004/5 time frame and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was good (if not the best) and the service was attentive.
Last Friday, a group of us went here for a birthday dinner during their Tango service, and I was very disappointed with just about everything. The food disappointed nearly everyone at the table (the lone exception being the orders of filet mignon), and the server was awful. Not only was he slow, but he was borderline rude to us at times throughout the night.
So what changed from my previous experiences to this most recent one? When I came in before, I was with a small party, well dressed, and spent a lot of money on drinks/food/wine. We expected, and we got excellent service. On the other hand, as a part of a group of younger people that didn't have the appearance of sophistication, we were treated like we we were not welcome by our server. We were there to enjoy the evening, but the server let us down.
On the positive, the bartenders were good (though it took a long time for our drinks to be delivered while our server chatted with them and hung out behind the bar.. drinks sitting on the tray). The dancers were actually a nice touch for a Friday evening dining experience.
All things considered, the degree to which I was disappointed in the service and the overall experience this time around far outweighs the moderately good experiences I had in the past. Even at it's best, they food here was never as good as I had hoped. I do not plan on going back.
OK now upon arriving we saw through the window couple tango dancers, we thought we in for a treat! Oh yeah we were definately in for something! We waited forever to place our dinner order, our second round of drinks took more then 20 minutes to arrive from the time ordered, and then we waited forever to even pay! I was thinking we should've just walked out, but we didn't because we actually like the food there.
Price: slightly pricier than a normal steak house
Crowd: Pretty diverse crowd
Food: Actually quite nice and different in a good way
Service: Horrible
Recommend: I would probably go back for the food, but the service was god awful this time around!

I owe this place a long overdue review, my girlfriend took me here for a surpise birthday dinner!… Read more »
The manager at Buenos Aires Grill, Alberto Meza, always makes me feel like I'm the most important person in the room. (He treats everyone like that)! The food is always amazing (as is the service). And, who doesn't have a huge crush on the tango dancers (Gregory Phillips and Natasha Maltseva)!
I wanted to go to Jak's Grill - unfortunately, they were closed yesterday night for renovation. So I went to Buenos Aires instead.
The place looked awesome - nice dark atmosphere with lots of heavy woods. Servers were friendly. The house red was awesome (sorry forgot the name). My fries were nicely done.
My only complain was my rib-eye. First, I love rib-eyes and have eaten rib-eyes all over the US. Unfortunately, my rib-eye was quite fatty. I am not talking about well-marbled but instead globs of fat. My steak also had a lot of gristle. I left about 1/2" of meat/fat around the bone.
I was really surprised especially given the number of reviewers who gave this restaurant 4-5 stars. I am wondering if I was accidentally given a bad cut. Based on the other reviews, I will likely give this restaurant another try - but after I have tried Jak's.
I discovered this restaurant when trying to find a restaurant that would give my wife a little taste of home, (she's Paraguayan). Buenos Aires Grill did not disappoint. We went with a group of 6, and were given a table in the corner, which afforded us plenty of room to enjoy our dinner and the entertainment.
Upon entering the establishment, you immediately feel as though you've walked into one of the trademark steakhouses in Argentina. Argentina takes their steak very seriously, and the pride clearly is reflected with every dish. It is a traditional restaurant, so be prepared to be surrounded with the smokey odor of the grills. The lighting is set at a low level, which is perfect for the sultry experience.
The food is exceptional. We enjoyed a delicious appetizer of provolone cheese. I ordered it for the group, and nobody could resist it. The steaks are cooked to perfection, but one must understand that it is a style that is different from what you'll find in steakhouses native to the U.S. The steak tends to be served less rare than it is in the U.S., but trust them on how they prepare it - it is absolutely delicious! Although there are options other than steak on the menu, I'd recommend sticking with the mainstay of an Argentinian Steakhouse - steak & sausages. The drinks are quite good. They have excellent choices for their wine selection.
If you're looking for a quality international experience with a group of steak lovers - look no further. Buenos Aires Grill will leave everyone with a smile on their faces, and a satisfied appetite.
Love it..
Phenomenal atmosphere. The smells, the look the tastes all rock your socks....
When I enter this place I feel as if I have been teleported back to a small town in Argentina. Order a fantastic Argentinian Malbec, or a caparinhas, and the rodizio and prepare to be knocked flat back on your arse by old world, savory steak goodness.
No demi-glace, no caper reduction, no worchestershire, just smokey, charbroiled meat, brought to you on your own personal hibachi and set on your table still smoking with heat. Five different types of meat in one dish? Fock Yes.
Consume your meal and wine, while new aromas waft from the kitchen and a gorgeously dressed straight out of the 20's couple tangos around your table, and up on to the wooden bar, while authentic Latin Tango music echoes off the nostalgic tile floor.
2 hours sent in this quaint little place really does feel like a getaway that is over way to soon, but hey don't complain you didn't have to hop on a plane and have a lay over in Mexico City to get here. All you had to do was find a parking spot!
Just don't plan on going anywhere after your meal because your going to smell like a broiled steak for the rest of the night.... I'm dead serious, your dog will be licking at your clothing until you wash it. Let me assure you "meat" is not the fragrance of choice for the opposite sex "up in da club"
You don't like this place? Your a sadist.
Bravo BA Grille, Brav-focking-O
I can't believe I forgot about this place! But after too many cocktails, we end up at their late night happy hour this weekend only to mediocre food. The steak sandwiches were dry and lacked flavor, but the garlic fries were delish! But how can you go wrong with anything deep fried? Aside from HH, if you love meat, then this is the place for meat! Please serve me your fattiest well-marbled steak, bring it rare and bloody and please don't charge me half my mortgage. Done, done and done. I have never been disappointed with the short ribs on steroids or the rib eye. Love my meat!
Things that rocked:
1. Sweet potato fries - nicely done!
Things that sucked:
1. The service - my water glass refilled once (we were there for over 3 hours) and was empty for most of the night. The host was a cranky guy who treated us like we were a nuisance.
2. The food - I got the skirt steak because I figured I wanted something that captures the smokiness of the grill the best. The meat itself was tough and there was ton of tendony, stringy fascia all around the steak! Good thing I also got veggies and mashed potatoes...which were not bad.
3. And oh yeah, the price tag! It was incredibly expensive for mediocre steaks.
Went here with a large group. Maybe it would have been better for small parties? Nonetheless, I doubt I will make a return.
The tango dancing on Friday and Saturday nights is interesting... technically, the place is fairly small with little room to move around, but the dancers manager. It's a nice 3-4 minute distraction from the meal, but not even close to great tango dancing (primarily due to the lack of space).
Great place to go if you like meat and lots of it! Their porterhouse is my favourite.
I was pretty excited to go to this place: 4 stars for a steak place with 73 reviews, sounds like some delicious food right? Company was wonderful, service was pretty good, food was not the best.
First of all, it took FOREVER for our food to come out. Forever as in an hour. After waiting for that long, you expect unbelievably delicious food.
Well, between 4 girls we got....
Parrillada for 2 ppl:
This is a mixed grill of different meats including skirt steak, chicken, sweet bread (http://en.wikipedia.or...), short ribs, flank and sausage. This comes on an actual grill that they bring to your table. No matter how many portions you get, they just bring you 1 grill and pile on the meat. The skirt steak was pretty average, I've had better at Brazilian BBQ places. We didn't even touch the chicken because it was dry white meat--the kinda over-charred it on some parts. Sweet bread was pretty good and moist. Short ribs were ok, but definitely doesn't compare to Korean-style short ribs. Our flank steak was completely burnt on one side. I can't believe they sent it out. My friends and I bit into it and thought we had a piece of charcoal. Sausage was good as well, but restaurants at this price aren't allowed to mess up on sausage.
Ojo de Bife (aka bone-in rib eye)
We ordered medium-rare, but it came out pretty rare-looking. Pretty darn red and bloody so we put it on the grill hoping it'd cook it a little more. Ok--so it's pretty dark in the restaurant so I'm thinking the chef couldn't really see how well-cooked things were. Our parrillada plate was over-cooked, our rib eye was undercooked.
Cordero (aka rack of lamb)
Out of everything, I'd say this was what we all liked. Not because it was the best rack of lamb we've ever tasted, but because it stood out a bit more. All the other meats (minus the sausage which had a little spice to it) tasted the same. If I was blind-folded and eating, I'd only notice differences in texture but would have no idea what was what because they ALL had the same charcoal-bbq taste.
We went on a Saturday night, so there was a tango-dancing couple that pranced around the restaurant (they have a couple tango dance in the restaurant on Fri and Sat nights). That was pretty cool, although the couple looked a little awkward. I'm not a tango expert, so maybe that's how they're supposed to dance?
All-in-all it was a nice experience for us all, but I won't be coming back. With the prices that you pay, it is definitely not worth it--I can make better BBQ at home.
Absolutely incredible dining experience.
Buenos Aires Grill is one of those places in Seattle that flies under most peoples' radar. Some have heard of it, few have tried it. If you count yourself among this group, then you do not know what you are missing.
We've visited Buenos Aires Grill on two occasions, and we were thoroughly impressed both times. Inside the restaurant, you fell like you are in a bar in Argentina -- sexy ambiance, excellent music, great smells from the grill, and tango dancers moving about on Friday and Saturday nights.
You can't truly enjoy a great restaurant without a bottle of wine, so we consulted the list and ordered a bottle of Fourteen Hands Merlot, one of our favorites. Sadly, they were out of stock. Instead, the waiter offered a nice bottle of (more expensive) Malbec for the same price as the Merlot. The recommendation was a great match for our dinner.
The menu is definitely focused on grilled meats, but there are range of salads and empanadas on offer. If you are a cheese fan, the Provoleta appetizer is a must order. A small wheel of provolone is placed in a clay crock, topped with herbs, a touch of chimichuri sauce, and broiled in the oven. It's served with focaccia and it is a hedonistic pleasure that is almost indescribable.
For dinner, we had a 10 oz fillet Mignon that was one of the featured specials. As was the case on our last visit, the steak was ... divine. A caramelized and smoky exterior encased a warm pink center. The steak was joined by a colorful serving of roasted vegetables (squash, zucchini, carrots, peppers, mushrooms) and a delicious, light creamed spinach. The spinach hid tiny pieces of bacon (or possibly ham) that took it to a whole different level.
Buenos Aires grill is an excellent alternative to stuffy traditional steakhouses, whose dark wood and velvet booths are great for 10th anniversary celebrations but may not be the best place for a special date.
This has needed my yelp review for sometime. This is still my favourite restaurant in Seattle - especially for Steak that doesn't require a home equity loan to pay the bill (do people really have equity left?). The atmosphere is wonderful and takes you back to a 1940's Argentina-like feel with weekend tango dancers, a nice smoky, fire-fueled kitchen for all to see and enough beef to make the cholesterol start forming in the veins. Over the years (I've been coming since 2002), I've sampled the empanadas carne, vacio (not sure if it's still on the menu), parrillada mixta, picados, mollejos, etc. and must admit that my favourite is by FAR the ENTRANA. This is steak sooo perfect & tender it simply dissolves in your mouth with all the beefy flavours dancing about on your tongue. It's like the steak you would get in heaven if God were cooking.
The wooden plates are a nice touch, decor is great, and food is authentic (I've been told by native Sud Americanos as well as my parents who used to live in Uruguay).
The only reason I don't give this 5 stars is that the service and tango dancing isn't as good as it used to be. In the Marco Casas-Beaux days, it was better but well now, he's moved onto Ipanema which is wonderful also. Must be a Lula thing - who couldn't love Brazil with such a cuddly president, great football (I mean "soccer") and beaches, as opposed to the Kirchners.
Still - if you want to relive Evita, tango, and 1930's Argentina without being a caudillo with a Uruguayan private bank account - this is definitely THE place. The food could not be better.
My first time 4yrs ago in B.A.G. was asesome. The service and quality of the food were great. And I've been going there at least once a year. Last night I went there for my last time. The first signal that something was wrong was that the place was partialy empty (I blamed it to recession at first). The server eventhough nice was only doing the minimum to attend. We all ordered a soda, and I was waiting and waiting for the refil. When the server finally came back and I asked he told us no refils. This was my second warning, when a restaurant with such high prices cant afford to do refills there is something bad. Then the parrillada came (which used to be awesome), the quality of the meat was terrible. It was all full of nerves and fat. The chicken was over cooked and the sweetbreads were burned.
It was so disappointing, for this restauant used to be so good. I am sure not to go back again.
The service is ridiculously slow. We had an 8pm advance reservation, and ate dinner after 10. Once the food came, it was just OK. No one -- including our server -- came to offer us an appetizer, explanation, or anything else. We got up out of our chairs, complained twice, and the whiny manager brought a bottle of wine half an hour later. The tango dancers were great. My advice is go sit at the bar for the 8pm show, leave and go to Lola to eat dinner. We should have left...
Meat, meat, or meat?
Lots and lots of...
Meat.
I dined here last night with a group of 7 and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not the biggest red meat eater, but I also appreciate a good cut of cow.
I hadn't heard too much about this place, but what I had heard was good.. so I was looking forward to it.
I ordered the Churrasco de Lomo- butterflied grilled tenderloin with a chimichurri sauce. I loved my steak. It was very juicy and flavorful and, came with garlic fries, which were pretty A+!
The Parrillada- Argentine mixed grill (chicken, steak, short ribs, vegetables, and sausage) served up hot on your own personal grill at the table. Good stuff!
I did not try the Empanadas, but others at the table said they were good as well.
Tons of food, good service, and a very reasonably priced wine list- $5 glasses of house wine at HH- and their 'House Wine' list consisted of about 10 different types of wine.. Gotta love that.
I'd definitely come here again when I'm looking for a good cut of meat..
Lots and lots... and lots of it.
Went there for the happy hour, not so impressed with the food. Mojito was good though, beer is expensive compare to other happy hours (4.00). We ordered too much food as usual, but only two items were memorable - grilled steak with a fried egg sandwich and beef sweetbreads. Heard many good things about the restaurant and price for steak on its regular menu looks reasonable. We will probably come back to try their steak and join their tango hours, but not coming back for happy hour.

Live Tango dancing; super sized meats.
Yes, you must like meat, lots of it. It's pretty tasty.
If you order enough, they bring it out on a heat tray (a skillet with fire on the bottom) to keep it hot. The sides are okay.
To be honest, it's like a Brazilian all you can eat BBQ, except you don't get as much variety or the large choice of sides.
However, there is live tango dancing. They dance around the restaurant and sometimes on top of bars. Otherwise, the place is actually not that lively.
I've only ever ordered the parrillada (mixed grill) which is an assortment of meats served on a charcoal heated griddle. I've been there 3 or 4 times now, and every time I do, the novelty of getting their "signature dish" wears a little thinner, or the quality is just going down hill.
The first time I went, I was amazed at the sheer amount of meat and variety. But as the visits went by, I realized that the skirt and hanger steaks are incredibly oily and fatty and just not that good. The chicken is always overcooked and dry. The pork sausage is pretty good, no complaints there. The short ribs are almost always entirely fat and not worth attempting to eat. And I don't eat sweetbreads.
To top it off, the wines by the glass are pretty thin and uninteresting for a steakhouse. Also be warned that your clothes and jacket will reek of charred meat and smoke when you leave the restaurant.
If I ever find myself with a group and end up there again, I will at least atempt to order a cut of steak off the menu to see if the quality is better than the mixed grill, but Buenos Aires Grill will never be on my list of steakhouses I choose to eat at.
The meat is pretty superb there. My friend ordered the filet mignon and I had the French cut steak. The manager actually took our order and served us, which is something you don't see that often. The portion was more than enough, the sauces (pepper or blue cheese) made the steak even more tasty. I had mine medium rare. It came out perfect, pink in the center and crispy on the outside.
The tango dancing was a perfect addition. It made the dining that much more enjoyable. Overall, we had a great time there.
A Delicious experience!
Step one: Make reservations for after 8 pm (when the Tango Dancing begins), and specifically ask to be seated in the main floor area. This way the Tango dancers can be seen. We were stuck in the far back corner on an upper level, which was cramped with no view.
Step two: Order the Malbec, it doesn't disappoint.
Step three: Pick two Empanadas to try. We had one with chicken, the other with cheese and corn. Both were flavorful and especially delicious with the chimichurri (LOVED the chimmichurri).
Step four: Order an entree that comes with the mashed potatoes. I can't imagine any of the entrees being anything short of delicious! I had the special of the night: Filet Mingon with a portabello demi glace, grilled veggies and mashed potatoes.
My boyfriend had a bone in ribeye. I preferred mine over his. He also got the garlic fries. Probably the only thing I didn't care for. Waaay too salty. Tasted like over salted Red Robin fries with hella raw garlic. Stick to the mashed potatoes. They were perfectly salted and pack a surprising punch of nutmeg.(divine!).
Our service was excellent. The only downsides were the fries, the seating, and Cruella Deville who sat beside. She nagged her husband and complained the whole time (and to the waiters) about her lousy seating. Apparently she made reservations that morning on voice mail. Guess what lady? I made mine the day before and we were stuck in the corner!
I took an out of town colleague here. I don't think I would do it again. The location does not present well.
We ordered a series of small plates rather than entrees and I don't think this went over well with our waiter. I can't explain his decision to remove our plates right before bringing the dishes we specifically said we planned to share.
The empanadas were not bad, the chicken one a bit dry buy the corn and cheese very nice. The tenderloin diablo had a nice spicy sauce but I'm not sure about the cut of tenderloin.
So, I had been back in town from my trip to Greece and the Netherlands no more than 6 days when we ventured to this little place (we were heading to the Moore for Anthony 'the pig is a magical animal' Bourdain with friends). Unfortunately, I left for my trip with the cold, ended up getting bronchitis and when I got back to the states I had the flu.
I was pretty much eff'ing dead by the time we had dinner here. Sadly, I spent most of dinner sweating my ass off in the hallway feeling like I was going to die. I think I must have spent a total of 45 minutes dying while my gf and friends ate that little frying plate of heaven called the Parrillada or something like that.
I had about 4 bites of my food before my second waive of death hit me and then I had to excuse myself to pass out in the bathroom they share with the whiskey bar. Trust me on this... pass out somewhere else.
So, I rate my experience 4 stars for a meal I think I would have loved.
The decor is really dated and not at all nice for a steakhouse and for the cost of the meal. The steak was good though, I would say that it was better than Capitol Grille but worse than El Gaucho.
The filet mignon was really nicely cooked though, and yum yum on the creamed spinach.
I was pretty upset when they served me a $10.00 margarita made from mix. What garbage. They should be ashamed of themselves.
The tango show was pretty clumsy.
I don't know--this place did have an element of old-school charm, but for the price I would rather go to El Gaucho.
Oh, and this was the strangest thing of all. We called at 7 pm asking if we could walk-in or get a reservation for that evening and they said they had no openings until 10. Then I checked on open table, and was able to get reservations for 8 pm.
My friend got the 20-oz porterhouse. It was tender and really good. The rest of us got the mixed grill, which is a HUGE pile of meat. The skirt steak was really good but the chicken was really dry. There was also a mystery cut of meat that I thought was chicken but crumbled in my mouth. We debated over it for awhile and ended up deciding that we didn't want to know what it was. I would assume that it's a random organ or something. After awhile with the mixed grill, you just start to get really sick of meat since it's literally just a huge pile. I think this place would be better if you just stuck with the porterhouse because it was really well done.
They also had tango dancing which was a little weird. Their tango dancers would just dance throughout the restaurant and come up right next to your table. It seemed like too cramped a space to do that kind of thing. It made me a little claustrophobic.
Great steaks; entertaining tango dancers; knowledgeable staff. The thing that sticks out is this: The staff aren't condescending. They go out of their way to help you get the most value and have a great dining experience. Once, I ordered a steak that I probably would have been less than happy with because I wanted it rare. The server suggested that I order a different cut of meat that would be better served rare. One night it was very busy and we had to wait for our server for things that we needed while waiting for our dinner to arrive. The staff made sure we got what we wanted and more.
Am I little too spoiled with NYC food? Or was this place not good at all?
I've had better. Fine, fine. I will stop comparing Seattle restaurants to NYC places like Peter Luger or BLT Prime.
I forget what I had (I was too busy looking at this girl I was with) and didn't cared much about our tiny table and crappy chair. Oh boy, I better stop writing cheesy love stories here.
By the way, live music was cool.
I want to give them 4 stars, but they were just not that on point! First mistake, we ordered the mixed grill (I went with a colleague), when I was eyeballing the skirt steak already. I caved in because I was interested in the sweet breads (bing it if you don't know what they are). Came with Garlic fries and we ordered a mid-range bottle of malbec ($45). Well the best part of the mixed grill (which by the way is just a huge sizzling platter of gnarled meat, easily enough for 3+) was the skirt steak! I knew it!! The service was so-so, a little cocky everything considered, no impressive wine knowledge.
I went there last Saturday with a buddy and we both got steaks. I ordered the porterhouse and when it came, it didn't come with a vegetable, or potatoes or any sides. These were all a la carte, which I thought pretty much sucked for a $40 steak. The steak itself was good, but I didn't taste anything Argentinian or even remotely Latin about it. My buddy got the filet and that seemed pretty good, but I had a couple bites of it and it didn't blow me away.
The service was fine. We sat at the bar and there were no issues there. It seems that there are other reviewers that had a problem with service, but ours was normal. It is the value for the $$ spent where my issue lies.
The Buenos Aires Grill is definately over-rated. It doesn't suck, but its expensive for what you get, the atmosphere isn't any better that what you would expect at a $40 a steak restaurant.
I would go there again, I suppose, but only if the party I went with could not be persuaded to go somewhere's else, and only if they were paying.
Steaks here at the Buenos Aires Grill are juicy, tender and ALWAYS ALWAYS marinated and cooked to perfection. How do they do that?
This place is great for dates and big groups: Great menu with VERY reasonable prices (yes, there are other things besides red meat), good looking people, good service, stiff drinks (their mojitos are the best in Seattle), and fabulous tango dancers on weekends.
ALL of their steaks are to-die-for. The roasted vegetables - well done! Their desserts are scrumptious. Make sure to ask to see the desserts that are not on the menu (located near the entrance). The traditional caramel cake made me speechless.
Meat.
I don't know, call me crazy, but meat is the easiest thing in the world to prepare. I mean apply heat. There is no skill to it! It's not like the labor of love that is required to braise a tough shank into something gelatinous and tender. The secret to a good piece of meat lies within the meat itself. I only order steak at a restaurant is when someone else is paying. I refuse to pay 3 times the cost of what it would if I were to go down to Central Market and bring it home to cook myself.
That said, I like meat. The meat here was not bad. I don't recall that it was anything special. The service was great and I didn't mind the dancing. If a restaurant's main claim to fame is their meat, I would expect something a little better. I had the rib-eye and a friend had the mixed grill. Sub par. I'd much rather have gotten the entrecote at Campagne with the rich veal stock sauce with pieces of foie gras swimming around on a bed of sauted spinach.
Is there something called "meat porn"? If so, Buenos Aires Grill would be king.
We (Melissa G and I) were feeling like doing steak one night and I was none too keen on dining at a generic steak house.
*Bing*
On goes the food radar, and it immediately zeroes in on Buenos Aires Grill.
Hot damn. The Argentines know their steak. The food here is so good and plentiful, it borders on obscene - mounds of flesh served at the table, you saw it off on your personal cutting board, and eat straight off the board. Its not just the steak though, the chicken was excellent and grilled vegetables were also very tasty (and a good break for overindulging on cow). And the frites? The best I've had in years.
Hands down, this is the place to get your steak on. Bring an empty stomach and a lusty appetite, and be prepared for some meat porn like you've never seen before.
