Eaten here a few times.  The food is bar food taken up a notch.  It is okay but not great.  The bar is fun and is a great atmosphere to meet others.  Nice outdoor seating area.

Not too many options in Dixon.  If you are looking for a nice dinner and don't want burgers or chicken and veggies then check out Firehouse Grill.

Bud's gets crazy on game nights.

We really wanted to like Bud's: it's a really cool old place in the historic part of Dixon. Walked in to a large room with high ceiling, brick and wood. The menu offers steak, seafood, and local lamb.

How could I not go for the local lamb? It was billed as having Bud's "secret seasoning" which I think it is not a stretch to say consists of a hell of a lot of salt.  Mind boggling, you've never eaten this much in your life, wake up with swollen tongue, quantities of salt. Was that lamb under there? I'll never know, all I could taste was salt.

The salad was OK, not all that fresh or inspired. The asparagus was perfectly cooked, and covered with, wait for it, yes, a salty sauce.

Service was being conducted at a break neck pace, it wasn't all that busy but either the staff is hitting the lattes way too hard or they're getting cattle prodded into action in the kitchen. Either way, it's not a pleasant experience, unless you're really in a hurry to get out of there (say, in case your tongue is all swollen up from the salt barrage).

Had lunch today (Mon. at 11:30AM) we were a party of 7. They sat us in the back dinning room which was great since we were having a lunch meeting and wanted to be away from the noise of the bar and lunch crowd.

Location: Off the main street downtown, street parking.

Place: Very large lots of space, a little dark with dim lighting and no windows, clean women's restroom. I don't know what to make of the restaurant when it comes to the decor the front is decorated like a pub and the back dinning room we were in was more like an Italian restaurant it didn't fit in. It felt like I was in another restaurant. Oh well I care more about food and service.

Menu/Food: A wide variety of salads, burgers and sandwiches. I ordered the Napa chicken salad special which had almonds, dried cranberries, feta cheese, tomatoes, strawberries and cucumbers. But one word of advise to the server explain EVERYTHING that is in an entree. When I asked what was in the salad he said "chicken and strawberries." I don't think he understands some people have food allergies (i.e. nuts, cheese and ect.) I luckily am not one of them. Salad was average size (not small and not large), chicken was lacking seasoning and a little dry.

Service: We had maybe 2-3 different waiters. We had to ask for refills they don't automatically refill on their own. They did check on us twice and we were there for about an hour and a half.  They didn't remember who ordered what when it came to beverages and entrees. When it came to the bill my boss gave his credit card to pay and when the waiter came back he gave the card and receipt to the wrong person.
Seems like they don't pay attention to details. They got the job done but service could have been waaay better.

Price: Inexpensive/average (compared to other pubs), for a party of 7 with beverages the bill was around $95.00 without tip.

Would I come back? hmmm only if I had to. I know there is not a lot in Dixon but I'm sure there are better restaurants to spend money at.

Crap. Drunk bikers and flying "F" bombs. Not a place to bring guests or family. Food is all pre-made and served by hostile stuck-up servers who really couldn't be bothered worrying about if you're having a good dining experience or not.

Bottom line, if you want to get drunk with your Harley buddies this is the place. If you want to take family or friends to dinner, avoid.

I came here for a late lunch with my friends from Dixon and they recommended this place.

I ordered the Roast Beed Sandwich (Richards Way) and it was DELICIOUS!!  It had a good cajun spice to it and I enjoyed every bite!!  I ordered a side salad which was average.  The sandwich alone gets 5 stars.

The service was fine and the restaurant was your typical diner.  They also have a bar and it seems like a good place to hang out if you are living or visiting the area.

Although everything else was average I am still giving this place 5 stars because I enjoyed the sandwich so much.  I am more satisfied with the good food than be picky about service or the setting.

It seems most of Dixon's reviews seem to be written by out-of-town yelpers, and here's another.

We stopped by here late on a rainy Sunday night on our way back from Tahoe. Essentially everything else was shut as we were coming up very close to the witching hour of 10PM, but Bud's welcomed us with open arms. Never showing a drop of bad attitude or a lack of warmth despite our late arrival and obvious out-of-town-erness (SF restaurants, listen up), they treated us incredibly well while serving rather excellent food.

I loved the fettucine + bacon + artichokes. The bread was tasty. Drinks were refilled quickly. Again, all after 'closing' time. Really, absolutely outstanding service from every staff member we interacted with.

Ambience was perfect for a Sunday night-- some quiet music playing from the attached bar portion next door. All in all, a great stop if you find yourself in Dixon.

How can I say this without bringing the wrath of the people of Dixon on me, but you do not expect to find a place like this in Dixon. We were driving though, hungry and ready for a beer and we walked in. To begin with there was a really good selection of beers and neither of us had to settle. For those who have not read my other reviews, we have quite different tastes in beer but neither of us is into Bud/Coors/Miller type stuff.  I do not remember all of what we ate but the deep fried battered mushrooms - man, that is worth a trip there even if you do not drink. An unexpected and wonderful find.

    Buds=friendly and quality food.

I really like the hometown feel.  Dixon might be the first place in CA where I actually feel like I belong.  The people are friendly and decidedly small town.  And Bud's typifies the small town atmosphere with a friendly staff and great food.  Their menu is anything but small town.  They have awesome steaks and fresh seafood as well.  And surprisingly, breakfast is good too.

Bud's is a great place to go, whether you are wanting a nice dinner or a drink.

I have only ate here once, but the food was surprisingly good. It was a lot nicer of a restaurant than I had expected (the outside doesn't look like much). I ordered some cajun style shrimp and a salad, and it was great. They have seafood, steaks, burgers, etc. The dinner salad was really good, different than you would get at most other restaurants. Service was fine. We came in a little late on a weekend nite, and they were trying to turn everything into the dance floor, so we weren't too surprised with a slight neglect.

This is also a pretty decent place to go on the weekends. There is a DJ, dance floor, and usually quite a few people. If you don't feel like driving all the way to Sac or Vacaville, it's not a bad bar.

Came here for a drink with some coworkers around 2pm (it was an early Friday), and had a fun time. We could actually TALK while having a few beers. Didn't look at the menu, but some people had ordered lunch and it looked good. Also, I keep hearing about this Friday Chowder.... I'll need to get my hands on some.

Hope you don't mind all of the taxidermy animals on the wall. Haha.

Thanksgiving eve was when I went to Bud's Pub.  The environment was festive as I'm sure many people were home visiting and catching up.  Game heads on the walls are one of the hallmarks of a good bar and Bud's delivered.  It was cute (if dead animal heads can be cute) because they were all wearing santa hats...even the fish.

Bud's would get a 5 star rating except the music was WAY TOO LOUD!  The bartender that helped us was friendly and served a nice cocktail.

Finally, my hint to all Dixon bars, if you have outdoor seating, install some heaters please.

Bud's offers unexpectedly wonderful food in the quiet, off-the-freeway streets of downtown Dixon.

We stopped in for takeout while going to the dog show at the fairgrounds.  The place was packed, so the ordering and delivery was a bit slow.  But, the fish and chips were some of the best (and cheapest) I have had in a while.

The staff does a professional job packaging obvious take-out items like sandwiches and also the not-so-obvious ones like my fish and chips and slaw.  The order was put together without an omission, and everything was properly separated and fresh.

The restaurant's main business is sit down, and the tables and atmosphere were pleasant.  Our miniature long hair dachshund won't allow us to dine inside, but when we accompany her to another show here, we'll happily go back to Bud's for the lunch.

One visit is ONE TOO MANY! The service stunk. Sorry to be so blunt. I had a teenage waitress tell me that they "did not serve the soup of the day until lunchtime" and it was 12:15 in the afternoon!!! I don't think it gets any more "lunchtime" than that....She didn't even check before she told me that. Not to mention, my mother-in-law, husband, two daughters and me could not get the waitress over to our table to take our order for the life of us! I had to intentionally LET my 2 year old scream at the top of her lungs just to get some attention....Other than that, they have a severely limited selection at lunchtime. Frankly, if you're going to have piss poor service, you could at least give me a couple choices of what to eat. I mean, really, the only good service came from a nice older (older compared to the 14-year olds working there! she was maybe 30) waitress who lent her pen because the one our waitress gave us didn't work. I was severely disappointed and wished I was at burger king....

Went there for dinner on a Friday night, although we were seated right away, we waited 15 minutes till a server noticed us and asked if we wanted to order. When the meals arrived they neglected to bring the bread that was supposed to be part of the meal. The steak I had was average, on par with Sizzler or Tahoe Joes.

If you don't have friends in Dixon or live there yourself the only reason you may find yourself in Dixon is because of the May fair or the deep fried mushrooms at Bud's. OMG - they were the very best fried mushrooms I've ever had. I wouldn't say that fried mushrooms are something I look for or try often because for one I'm trying to avoid fried foods and two because they don't really excite me. Well, I have been converted but only for Bud's. They are like fried donut wrapped mushrooms. Soft pillow like dough, lightly browned encasing the mushroom. They are scrumptious. Watching what I ate was out the window this day but it was well worth it. I also had the turkey with pesto on croissant which was also good but I don't think anything could top those mushrooms. Thank goodness I know someone to visit in Dixon.

among the 3 bars in dixon i go to...this is my least favorite...however...it scores HIGH on my food list....lol. breakfast lunch or dinner...and of course you can get drinks with dinner =)

they have a resteraunt area, and bar area, seperated but accesable to each other....at night on fri/sat the resteraunt area turns dancefloor....

i LOVE LOVE LOVE their taco's, go on taco tuesday and you get a good price...like 1.25 per taco. theyre epic! I'm from dixon and i love bud's tacos, as well as their chicken strips...they are very unique and tasty!

servers are hit and miss, sometimes you get a good one, but usually seem stuck up/rude and cater more to their usuals probably....

i dont go their for the bar often, bc a few times i have gone by and found it locked up at only 10:30 at night =/

i do like the outdoor front patio, you can take your drink out, but i dont like that its on the corner of 2 main streets and cars honk and yell and stuff....

its a good place for the older crowd....my father and friends go here alot to escape the youngins of the buckhorn bar...hahah

I've been here with friends for dinner twice now, and both times the food was truly outstanding.  The Lumberjack Ribeye steak with sauteed mushroom and onions in a honey mustard sauce is beyond mouthwatering, and a totally unique combination.  Both the shrimp scampi and the scallops were cooked to perfection in a delightfully complex and tasty sauce. Sampled a friend's Tri-tip with Gorgonzola sauce - YUM!  Really unexpected, high quality flavor and food from a very ordinary looking establishment.  Service was fast and friendly.  I've had drinks and appetizers in the bar as well and it was a great place to meet and have drinks.  Definitely worth a drive to eat there!

A great place for locals to have a special dinner.  My favorite is the beer-battered shrimp.  The salmon is usually fresh and tender, too.  I understand the steaks are good (I don't eat red meat).  They keep the bread coming, so be careful not to get too full before the entree comes.  My hubby and I like to come here on a Friday night.  The atmosphere is intimate and quiet.  One can actually have a conversation!  The wine selection is good and the service is friendly and attentive.  Very well priced.  Each dinner comes with soup or salad, potatoe or rice and a seasonal vegetable.

We've been going to Bud's for weekend breakfast for several years.  The omlettes are very good.  You can order any combination of ingredients.  The eggs come with hash browns or red potatos, but order the reds--they're excellent.

The restaurant recently remodeled so that the dining room is effectively part of the bar area. That makes the dining room pretty noisy, though there's a second dining area which is quieter.

I once had dinner at Bud's and found the steaks and chops were pretty good.

P.S. My wife and I had the special Thanksgiving Dinner (2009) at Bud's. Choice of turkey, salmon and ham entree with all the traditional trimmings. Everything was home made and good, with the exception of the apple and pumpkin pies that were mediocre at best.

All I can say is, "blah." Unimpressive, over-priced food with small portions. Don't EVER get the food to-go or delivered - it will be cold. 2 positives (thus the 2 stars): the clam chowder & the potato salad. I think it gets good reviews b/c it's the only game in town - well, "downtown." Even my co-workers who are locals admit this. Maybe the best bet is to go in for a beer and some chowder on a Friday...
