Thank you GPS. On a trip home from the ocean, my wife and I scanned the GPS for some grub. All the usual suspects popped up, but we had never eaten or heard of Bud's Burgers.
With the touch of a button we were on our way. Once inside, the smell of fresh grilled onions and fries invited the taste buds to start a journey.
We ordered the double cheeseburger with everything, couple of single cheeseburgers, and two family fries.
Everyone from my teenagers to myself were full. The food was wonderful, fresh, and very reasonably priced. We fed a family of six for thirty bucks.
The staff was courteous and helpful.
This is a must stop when passing through for us and I invite you to stop in as well. -

#1 with cheese, please!
I've been eating Bud's Burgers for over 20 years and have never been disappointed.
Burgers, fries, apple turnover, service, etc... ALL good ALL the time EVERY time.
I'd write a longer review for Bud's but if I give their food any more thought it might result in me taking an impromptu flight from So. Cal to Nor. Cal and I'm not sure I should spend that kind of money (cheapest flight is around $69) just for a burger. Or should I? Hmmmm. Mmmmm.

It's been awhile since I've actually had one of these Bud's Burgers. I was honestly more of a fan of the Bud's on Springs. So sad to see them go. Anyway, this Bud's is just "Eh", I've definitely had better burgers. In my honest opinion, it's just not that tasty to me, somewhat plain. The size may pretty decent but if I have to go home and add hella other condiments and spices just to jazz it up for me... I just don't think it's worth it.
Other than that, price is average and service is quick. -

This place makes really good burgers and really delicious french fries.
I am a big fan of family style fries and the bacon cheeseburger (!!!) But I'm quite sure anything you order here will make you feel like ... you will be coming back again for more :-D -

Bud's is a Vallejo institution. The food equivalent to N2Deep, Mac Dre and E-40...All are 100% Vallejo and 100% awesome...If you're looking for some fancy burger with fru-fru toppings then keep drivin'. But if you're looking for an awesome no-frills burger and fries at a great price then this is the spot. I first had Bud's at their Springs Road location (now closed) with my buddy Johnny Z over 10 years ago and I was a believer from that day forward!

Vallejo, CA
If there was a battle royale among all the burger shops in Vallejo, Bud's will ground them all up and put them in the burgers they serve. BEST BURGER JOINT IN THE V. It's still the same place with the big, locally famous, hard to miss sign on the side of the street. I remember as a kid growing up eating these burgers. It just brings a tear in my eye for every bite i take, just like Al Bundy when he eats his toothpaste sandwich. I think because of this place I can never eat a burger with ketchup anymore. It's all about the mustard and mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion (grilled if you want) and how many patties you want. The fries are crisp to perfection and still served in the styrofoam cup. A city landmark. You can't say you are from the V if you never had one. GET IT!!!!

The best burgers I have ever had hands down! Yummy fries too and its so good and so inexpensive. There is something about the burgers here that just don't compare to anywhere else! and the fries are yummy too! but you do have to put your own salt and pepper, so don't be lazy and say they aren't seasoned, its up to you to do it yourself! I appreciate that they aren't seasoned because some places season too much so glad that i can make it the way i like it. Haven't found a place that can serve burgers as good as Buds for the price too! A must have at least once a month!

Review from Tracie F.
After reading all of these fabulous reviews I was so super excited to try this joint. After finishing my meal I walked out with dashed hopes and clogged arteries. So not worth it.
The place is like any other burger dive...small tables with tiny seats. It adds to the ambiance. I actually liked it. Service was quick and friendly. They fixed the mistake (hair in the food) without batting an eyelash (maybe because it was in the food?). Onto the main point...the food.
It just wasn't that good. The burger, while pretty darn big, just was not that great. The bun was huge and added to the caloric content without adding anything else. There just wasn't much to the burger. It was standard burger dive grub. The fries looked divine. Notice how I said looked and not were. They looked fresh and full of greasy goodness. They were fresh and greasy but sadly there was no goodness to them. Nor was there salt. Bleh.
The bottom line...don't waste your time at Bud's.
*bonus side note...I did get "hollered at" by one of the classier of clientele. "Hey shorty you got a name?" This actually became a highlight of the experience. Not sure that is actually a good thing. -

Vallejo, CA
I gave this place 3 stars for not using frozen fries, and decent serving sizes. As far as cleanliness, OMG! What a sty. Someone really needs to wipe a counter, and sweep please. They also use frozen patties, like so many other establishments do in town. I think I need to open a burger truck just so people can have a homemade burger loaded with flavor. This is not the only place that I've tried, and left disappointed. Maybe good ole medium rare burgers are a thing of the past :(

Overrated. This place was greasy and gross. The service was awful, I felt like I was one of the cattle getting shipped off to the slaughterhouse.

Best fries around. Amazing cheeseburger. Even the chicken sandwich is good.
If they ever make onion rings, I'll be in serious trouble.

I must say the guy that was mopping the floors was one of the rudest people I have met. I didnt even get to try the food because they close so early and me and my daughter came about 6:30. So there are 2 doors and we walked up to one and it was locked but there were people eating inside, so went to the other door. The guy walked out and yelled to us and said " If one door is locked dont you think were closed"?! I said well the the F*&( closes at 6:30!!! Also you need a sign you rude asshole! . So I wont be trying their food anytime soon.

Best brown bag meal in the 707!!! To me, this will always be considered a Vallejo landmark. I remember back in the day when you could get a Bud's burger for 99 cents. LOL Tasty burgers that bring back immediate memories of happy times with high school friends. Great crispy fries in those styrofoam cups. When I was passing through the V, I took the Canadian here and he thought the burgers were pretty good. Passing through again and he even requested we stop here, which I thought was pretty cool considering he's picky about his burgers (well-done please!) and they cooked it perfectly. I get the regular burger with all the fixin's (lettuce, tomato, onions, mustard) on a fluffy bun. Crispy edges, juicy middle... Indulge!
Thanks for all the happy times and great burgers! -

Every visit home requires a visit to this place. This burger joint has been around since my youth and I have fond memories eating a burger from this place (and its old location off Springs Road.) I've had many a burger in my life and this one takes the cake. No fanciness, no frills, just a good ole fashioned greasy-in-a-delicious-way hamburger. I take it with all the fixings (minus the cheese) and savor every last bite. The portion size is decent, and with a small side of fries, the inner fat kid is truly satisfied!

One word: REAL.
This burger place is no joke, they serve real, unwatereddown, unsugarcoated American Burger. (yeah, so good I had to invent 2 words to describe them)
Maybe I was hungry (or lets be honest, maybe I became a fatass) but I gobbled down a Mega Burger Special.
Mega Burger: two 1/4 pound patties set side-by-side in a french roll. It was juicy, messy and very flavorful. I've never experienced something like this in Vallejo.
The Fries: Only they know what type of oil they use, but DANNNNG they were great. I loved getting the occasional burnt one or the occasional uncooked one (and even a green one). Don't know about you, but if I was cooking something like this at my family BBQ they would be EXACTLY like this.
If you live in the Valley-Joe and never had Bud's....wow. That's as bad as not knowing where Mac Dre or E-40 are from.

I was hankering for a good burger so of course I turned to yelp. Being new to this area, the great reviews sure did convince me to check this place out. Burger was not bad. Fries were good. But the customer service was horrible! The girl at the counter was incredibly rude. I don't blame her though cause if I had to live in a depressing s*hole like Vallejo, I'd probably be cranky too
I usually don't write bad reviews for poor customer service alone but the food was not all that to begin with. Maybe I'll try the other Bud's across town... -

Bud's Giant Burgers.
The burgers aren't GIANT, but it's still a task to finish one.
However, it's not the size of the meat that matters. It's how it tastes.
And it tastes amazing!
Bud's is probably my favorite burger in the world! Well, I haven't really eaten much outside of California, but it is certainly my favorite burger joint.
I always get the bacon cheeseburger combo, which comes with a big cup of fries and a soda. The fries really make the meal that much better. They're extremely crisp, light, and flaky. I think they come unsalted, so I put a little bit of salt and pepper on them, after I empty out the cup of fries into the burger bag, then I shake it all up. The burger is nice and juicy/greasy (come on, it's a burger) and the toppings complete the array of flavors.
All in all, it comes to under $8.
Can't wait to come here again. -

Most customers may be turned off by the condition of the restaurant and wonder how the food qualifies for a four star rating.
Sterilizing the floors and surfaces with Lysol every evening keeps things somewhat sanitary.
We either get the the Giant Burger special using the Times Herald coupon or other mailer coupons. We also like the double burger on french roll and just cut it in half. We always order it well done with extra lettuce and it tastes good!
Great perfectly cooked french fries! I have never had limp ones and would just ask for a new batch if I did not like them. I am not into a Styrofoam cup of fries though. I prefer the old Springs Rd. Bud's baskets.
We really liked the Squirt soda. Too bad Bud's does not carry it anymore. Probably not as popular as other sodas.
I normally ate at the Springs Rd. Bud's. The Sonoma Bud's seems way cleaner and not so run down compared to the old Spring's Rd Bud's.
There has been no change in quality at this location. The burgers and fries have been the same consistent quality for over 8 years that we have eaten here. -

I've been going here since we moved to Vallejo in 1976 and it has lasted past Mervyn's, Larwin Plaza, Kmart, Long's Drugs, and all other apocalyptic store closures in the area. That sez something about the low brow, no fuss, great tasting burgers Bud's has to offer! Please do not ever close this joint! It beats Nation's Burgers hands down..

MMMM!! Bud's burgers. This place is a Vallejo main-stay. Bud's has been here for damn near years. The burgers are just yum! and the fries are just mmmm! I had lunch here yesterday and it still tastes the same. It's been awhile since I've eaten a Bud's burger. Keep it up staff and owners of Bud's! MMMMMM
I had a double cheese burger fries and a drink. -

Have eaten at Bud's since a little kids and even after the fire when Bud retireed and Steve took over was very good, But as steve is there less and less the quality of food has gone down too, Fries are not crispy and burgeres are not as good, They still beat any other fast food place ( McDonalds, wendys, ect) but if owners are not going to be around to see what the employees are doing then one day Bud will lose the Loyal Customers, Hope you are Listening Steve

I'm not sure about the other reviewers but we obviously didn't go on the same day. First off, if the bathroom ain't clean...the kitchen ain't clean. The outside bathroom would be avoided by the most desperate of the cart pushing clan. YUCK!
Ok, I can overlook this....crowded little waiting area but I could see how it could hold some memories for long time visitors. I checked out 'Best Burger of '09' plaque proudly displayed, feeling good about my choice, get it home....and ewwwww. Greasy, nasty, inedible.
Not sure if they had a bad day or maybe liquored up the other reviewers before dinner? I do understand how I'd have a warm fuzzy feeling if my grannie had brought my here as a kid but without that nostalgia, the food was not even close to being good. Sorry, I really wanted it to be.... -

I've been to Bud's twice with my fiancé. We come down to Vallejo when we visit his family. Bud's is his favorite burger place. So I was excited. I remember thinking the place is small, not your typical fast food restaurant, but it had that "mom-and-pop" feel. So on the first visit, the burgers were pretty juicy and their fries were amazingly crunchy. For both, you can truly feel the oil and fat seep into your veins..it was cholesterol heaven. And you can have all the usual toppings (cheese being the only topping that cost extra).
But on our second visit, I wanted everything on my Giant Burger Special (that doesn't include cheese). My fiance's burger has always been the same (Giant Burger Special with lettuce and mayo only). Well, on that day, the service was different. We got our burgers both with cheese. We tried to explain before we got our burgers, but there was no effort to fix the issue. The guy that took our order just turned around and said, "They're already done. They both have cheese." after telling the main cook. Then handed our burgers the way they had prepared it and that was it. They looked at us like we made the mistake. Ah, sorry..that's why the cheese has it's own section and "everything" doesn't include cheese. And how do you explain preparing the other burger that has always been the same for years and specific to a "T." Not brain surgery, people!!
Overall, I experienced better in "high cholesterol and fat-type" burgers and service. Im sure they're struggling in this economy like everyone else, so you would think they would make an effort to keep everyone's business. -

Alright, so I've yelped this neighborhood gem several years ago, deducting 1 star for the greasy fries. Well, I take it back. The last couple times I've been here, the fries were perfect. Greasy, as fries should be, but tasty all the same.
Their burgers are still fantastic. If you want a good classic burger without the frills, bud's is the place for you. Made to order, and always fresh. It's not a place for "atmosphere" or "hanging out." It's a place you go to when you want a quick burger that always delivers.
It's one of the very few places that serve your burgers medium well, unless you specify otherwise. That takes balls, and frankly tells me that they are confident in the freshness of their ingredients. How many burger joints do you know that would do that with ground beef for under $6 bucks for a complete meal?
Yummy in my tummy. Ya'll are doing something right.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I don't see what the fuss is about. It's an OK burger with a huge portion of OK fries. I'd rather have Nation's (if they didn't take so long) or Red Onion...or make a burger at home.

Buds Burger is easily a Vallejo classic and landmark. I just ate here about an hour ago to remind me of how good it is.
I ordered the double giant burger w/ cheese combo. And my gosh. My gosh. Gosh! We thought we weren't gonna get to eat at a table but turned out people left as soon as we got our food so we decided to eat it there anyway. The taste is just the same as I remembered when I was a little kid, and when I ate here 4 months ago. The fries are served in a styrofoam cup and it's a generous portion.
Buds Burgers are cooked medium and amazing just the way they are. -Bruno Mars -

If you're from Vallejo then you know what Bud's Burgers are all about. This spot has been here ever since I could remember. I remember when they had the fire, I thought we lost Bud's Burgers forever. I also remember them having a second location on Springs Road. Bud's burgers bring up so many memories but that's not what you're here for right? You want to know why its so great! Onward to the food...
Bud's Burgers is just a straight up burger joint. They grind their own mean and cut their own potatoes. Its kind of like an old In an Out. The burgers are so juicy and cooked medium unless you specify something different. The fries are nice and crispy. There's a real difference eating a fresh made burger and hand cut fries than going to someplace like McDonalds.
There's nothing fancy about this place, you walk up to the counter, order your food either individually or by the meal specials they have. You get a number and wait. There's limited space. There's only like 3 or 4 tables and 2 side counters you can eat at. Most of the time people just order and take it to go.
This is a great restaurant to eat a classic hamburger and fries. If you are ever in Vallejo you need to stop by and check it out. Oh! Prices are really good. For under $10 you can get a full meal.Listed in: Burger Joints

Been driving by this place for a year now, and finally decided to try it and wow. I shoud have tried it sooner.
This is your typical burger joint, its got that burgers, fries and malts kind of feel going on. I had the bacon cheeseburger and it was super good. Got my daughter a corn dog (her first time having one) and she loved it.
Please note, everything comes out medium well unless noted, so... i had to ask them to make my burger well. -
Review from Diane A.
This place has been around for what seems like forever. Although I prefer the burgers at Nation's, these are a good runner up. The burgers greasy, hot and meaty deliciousness, although not super huge. The fries are piping hot and crisp. The prices are reasonable, and even better when you bring a coupon.

BUD'S BURGERS!! Definitely my all time favorite old school/home cooked style burger (besides GEORGE'S in Walnut Creek). I've been eating these wonderful creations ever since I could remember!
I remember when the cheeseburger fries drink and apple turnover would cost like 3.50 or something like that! but hmmm anyone who grew up in Vallejo or around the area knows that this is the spot!
I wish they still had the one on Springs Rd though since it's closer to my house! Red Onion isn't the same! hahah -

One of my all time Favorites
Probably the best french fries known to man - when will people learn? Fresh cut, double fried!
While it is a little greasy, you can't go to place like this and not expect a little grease. PERFECT hangover cure. They cook your burger to order, something I love.
Oh, and did I mention that you can get a burger, fries and a soda for under 8 bucks? The perfect burger shack! -

There is no doubt in my mind that Bud's Burgers is THE GREATEST place for a burger in Vallejo, and quite possibly the world. It really has a old school burger joint feel that you can appreciate. The fries are always fresh and the burgers are always greasy enough to turn a brown paper bag transparent. Instant winner in my book. It's always a good time for Bud's...the perfect munchie food!
The one thing that this Bud's location lacks is the menu variety that the former Bud's on Springs Rd had, which may or may not be a bad thing for some people. Personally, I'd love it if they could bring out some BBQ sauce to dip my fries in. Mmmm -

Me and my brother would always agree with my parents when they would suggest going to get a meal at Goldilocks, only to ask for $10 and grab a meal at Bud's instead. One day, our mom decided to accompany us and see why we always skipped eating food from our culture. She then understood why me and my brother, being the first generation of our immediate family in this country, adopted this place into our own personal cultural history. This place is pretty much the only reason I still visit the City of Vallejo.

Went yesterday to pick up burgers before the Battle of the Bay. I ordered the Bud's Giant Burger combo ($5.34) which came with fries and a drink. My boyfriend ordered the Burger with bacon and cheese ($5 something).. $10+ total. The burgers were good, nothing fantastic but good and my fries were droopy. Fries are meant to be crisp and tasty but these were pathetic. Overall, it was okay but it's definitely not the best ever!
