First off, it seems pretty much all truck rental places will take your reservation even when they have already told you they do not have a truck!!!? Be warned! Esp U-Haul who gave me a reservation after telling me none were available and indeed I got a call 24 hours later saying they didnt have one. Go figure, I had already booked one with Enterprise Truck Rental (which is another review) - they took a booking and confirmed it but werent even open on WEEKENDS WTF!
This seems to be an across the board problem with truck rental, not open, not got your truck but they will piss you about regardless, seriously who needs the stress when youve handed in your 30 days notice and have a apt full of boxes to move. Not like you can reschedule.....
So instead of raising my blood pressure - we called Budget Truck Rental and were greeted with a friendly voice happy to help. We initially booked a 16ft with Enterprise and Budget only had a 24ft available for us. So I braved the wheel pregnant with twins :) I have to admit it was kind of fun to drive :) Anyway, I wont bore you with my driving excitement.
To cut a long story short, the guys at Budget were AMAZING! no BS, this is what we have and this is what we can do for you. They also sympathized with our rants even though Im sure they here it ALL THE TIME about other rental companies. I rented the truck for two days as my husband was doing most of the move himself, all I could do was direct and drive the truck and we managed to move and have the truck emptied at the new place by the late evening.
They were happy to check the truck back in the following morning and I was only charged for the one day not two. FANTASTIC!
Do not waste your time with these other useless companies, who takes a booking when they are not even open on weekends, unbelievable. Im just happy these guys could be so accommodating at such short notice and with a smile on their faces the entire time. Highly Recommend!! -

This was truck renting at it's easiest. In fact, as easy as it was, it could have been even easier if I weren't a stickler for details who complicates things.
I made a late night reservation the night before for a 10' truck. I showed up at 0830 and they didn't have one. Fair enough - I made my reservation at about 0100 or 0200 in the morning (did I mention it was a late night reservation?) I got the 15' truck for the same price. Thankfully, I'm not squeamish about driving a vehicle that size.
Josue is the guy I dealt with both for pick up and drop off. He's not sunshine on a cloudy day, but he's competent, quick, and will get you what you want (unless you want him to smile). Still, I'll take a quick, devoted worker over a smiley idiot any time I'm dealing with the stress of moving.
The truck was in great condition. I went into high precision detail mode when looking over the vehicle, double checking the charts for every minute scrape and bump, and even taking pictures of the vehicle's outside and the fuel gauge and mileage. It was completely unnecessary. After patiently waiting for me for what must have seemed like eternity to him, Josue finally spoke up, saying, "Dude, You don't have to be that worried. Just don't crash it and fill it up before you bring it back. I'm not going to be anal about it." Well said, sir, and fair enough.
Minus .5 stars for only having two seats in the cab of the 15-footer (who loads and unloads a 15' truck with just two people??), and .5 stars for a high mileage rate.
Also, I chose to go through Budget instead of Coast Truck because 1) Coast Truck Rental requires a credit card, and 2) my phone experience with Coast Truck Rental was somewhat rude.
Finally, Budget has some decently priced moving supplies. Sure, you can get it all REALLY cheap at Wal-Mart or Target, but the Budget prices are the best I've seen in SF. -

Rented a truck from them after comparing rates with U-Haul. The service was great. The longest I had to wait on either end was a few minutes. They didn't bug me for a second about paying extra for their special insurance. They proactively took 20% off my rental right at the beginning because the gas gauge was a smidgen below full.
Renting from U-Haul on a Saturday kicks your move off on a stressful note, and it's not like your day isn't going to be hard enough. This was way better.
The only downside (I thought) was on Budget's online reservation form, it said if I wanted a one-day Saturday rental the longest I could have it was 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.. When I went in, they said I could actually have it till Sunday at 10 a.m., with a one hour grace period. Turns out they are an independent shop (Army Street Storage) using Budget for truck reservations, so the online info wasn't correct. Anyways, this is a long way of pointing out an error in a 5-star review, but it actually ended up being an upside.
How we accumulate this much junk in our lives, I have no idea... -

When you need a truck for more than just a few miles and at the last minute, call them. The rate was good....certainly better than U-haul and it was in nice condition. They did not have the original size oredered, but provided us a larger model at the same price. Big points!!!! The staff behind the desk was helpful and efficient and I will not hesitate to call them in the future. I do not normaly like to "call out" organizations in my reviews but U-haul, you need to learn a little from them. Thats as far as I will go.

Clean reliable trucks. Pretty nice people too. You can do everything over the internet too. Also, unlike UHaul, they don't try to scam you when you return the truck for "damage". Price is cheaper than some UHauls, but I would say that their legitimacy seals the deal.
The only downside is that on the weekends there is only 1 dude working, so unless you're first in line, expect to wait 30-45 minutes while everyone else in line decides what they want.
Other than that, it is a no BS operation they're running. Definitely a business to admire.
Plenty of street parking to leave your car as well. -

These guys are totally professional, helpful, and they delivered. Other rental companies flat-out won't rent to people going to Burning Man. Budget welcomes the business.
On top of this, in contrast to the horror stories you hear about rental companies like, (well, I won't mention their name but their initials are U-Haul), Budget actually honors reservations. These guys even called _me_ a week before the reserved date to confirm. Way to go Army St! -

this dealer is actually also part of the army st mini storage (which i reviewed earlier), which is an outstanding facility. anyways, the budget portion of the business was just as accommodating and friendly as the storage portion. the staff was really friendly and got me in and out of there in less than 5 minutes with a sense of comfort i have never felt while in the process of moving my entire life from one square foot of sf to another. the guy behind the counter was efficient and helpful when i asked him for advice about what size i might need to rent and then went on to give me a quote for a storage unit as well. i will definitely use these guys again for trucks or storage. right on josue...
