I had a mixed experience with this place. I made my reservation online and confirmed it via phone with someone in their office about 10-14 days before I needed it, but when I arrived at 8:30am to pick up my truck, there were two other people in the waiting area. I figured they also had reservations, plus I was about 7 minutes early, so I stood back and waited.
After coming in from chatting with another customer outside, the owner (he was the only one there) asked who was next. Two of us pointed at one guy who seemed to have been waiting the longest and the owner asked another guy and myself if we had made reservations after 1pm the day before. The other guy said he did, so I assumed I would be helped next, considering I'd booked and confirmed my reservation two weeks prior. The owner then looked at me and said, "Ok, it'll be at least 20 minutes before I can help you."
This vexed me. I wasn't sure why he would help the other guy first, regardless of when he arrived. I had a reservation, he seemed to be flying standby. Anyway, I said fine, that I would go grab breakfast and return in 20 minutes. It wasn't that big of a deal, just vexing. But when I came back, my truck wasn't ready for me. He had to go way to the back of the property to bring up a truck that looked like it hadn't been cleaned since the previous person rented it.
The rest of it went fine and the owner was very nice through the whole thing, I was just annoyed that the guy before me, Mr. Last-Minute Reservation, was in and out fairly smoothly -- most likely because he rented the truck that was prepared for me.
Now, apparently, I made a major oops, for which I take ownership, though it wasn't entirely my fault as no other instructions were provided by the owner. I told the owner I would return the truck by 1-1:30, that I only had the movers until 1pm. He wrote down 2pm, but I assumed he would be there when I returned the truck or he would have said something. When I returned, he was not there - the note said would return at 1:45), so I parked the truck where the truck was parked when we left that morning and dropped the keys in the dropbox.
I later received a very irritated phone call from the owner about how I blocked the gate to the adjacent Public Storage for "over an hour" (which isn't possible if he returned at 1:45 as his note indicated). I apologized -- it was unintentional, but he continued to tell me how I inconvenienced angry people at the Public Storage. I apologized sincerely and accepted responsibility for my lapse in judgment, but I finally told him that while I *was* sorry, unless he wanted to provide me phone numbers to call and apologize to those other people, there wasn't much I could do.
All in all... it was a fine. I mean, it's truck rental and as I said, aside from the somewhat badgering phone call for an honest mistake, he was very polite and cordial. The price was right and the product was satisfactory -- I'd rent from Budget again... though, maybe not this one, due to my awkward parking faux pas. -

I had a horrible experience with Budget.
We moved to San Diego from 1000+ miles away driving a Budget truck which was leaking gasoline. So we called the Budget emergency hotline and it took more than 40 minutes to reach a customer representative. (The "emergency number" on the Budget key chain didn't even exist, btw...)
They sent a mechanic over and the truck was fixed. We were told that the truck was leaking all the way and it seems like we wasted $$$ on gas. The mechanic also told us that Budget wouldn't reimburse our gas expenses and their trucks are never inspected properly (he said both Budget & U-Haul trucks break down all the time).
When we returned the truck to this location, we had to wait for a long time. Their customer service is horrible. We wasted a lot of money and time!!! -

THE WORST experience ever!!! Made a reservation 3 weeks in advance, and called 2 days before to ensure my truck would be there because we had movers schedules on both sides of the move. 1 HOUR! before we were to pick the truck up they called to say the truck was no longer available and that we should call corporate. To which Josh explained there is nothgin he could do and "these things happen" - hey Josh GO F YOURSELF!
