Recently left a review for the car side and thought I'd do one for the truck side.. Heads up they are two seperate businesses at the same location. The service here is great. I went in for a 16 foot truck with my friend. He needed to move an entire 4 bedroom house. I took the car peoples recommendations and came here for the truck even though my buddy lives in redwoodcity. Got a great deal on the truck. My advice is to be really nice and ask for these three things. It was howecer easier because I rent cars here too.
    1. Ask for a discount. You generally get 10 to 20%. Seriously just ask.
    2. Ask for some free mileage. Chances are they may throw you 10 to 15miles for free. You do have to convince them of return business however.
    3. Ask for a good truck. New doesn't always mean good with moving trucks.
Lastly, this is a 4 star review because my buddy had some problems with the liftgate. It was simply an inconvience but considering the service and discounts. It WA great.

First they lose my reservation, so the young Indian man at the counter blames his partner who isn't there for losing it. I would have walked away at that point, but I had friends waiting for me to bring the truck over, so they could start loading our stuff.

He then tries to offer me a deal by telling me he won't charge me for mileage to make up for "his partner's mistake", so I said okay.

When I return the truck the next day he says he can only take out 25 miles of my mileage?! So guess, what I'm stuck with a huge bill!

My point here... Don't tell your customers they have a reservation if you are going to lose and end up charging them the full retail weekend rate anyways. Secondly, don't tell your customer what you can't deliver just so they get charge even.

Terrible customer service! Not coming back for sure :-(

My fiance and I were moving from San Jose to San Mateo last weekend, and called up this place during the week to see when we could stop by. They seemed perfectly friendly and nice. Unfortunately, our work schedule for the weekend changed on Friday and we had to reschedule our move to Saturday. They said "no problem, any time is fine."

Fast forward to Saturday, and we'd just brought up a load of boxes in our car and unloaded them at the new apartment, and drove up to Foster City around 2 pm. When we got to the address, the only thing we saw was a building with two closed gates on either side. One of them said "Budget, Entrance that way" pointing to the other gate, and the other gate said "AVIS, enter here".

We parked on the street to try to figure out where to go, because the building had no entrance on the street. After wandering around confused for 5 or 10 minutes, we saw a car leave one of the gates, and assumed maybe that it would automatically open if we drove our car up to it? No, it remained closed when approached from the street. We pulled the car into the parking lot adjacent to the second gate, thinking perhaps the sign meant the entrance was in here, not at the AVIS gate. Nope, there was a fence all the way around.

We tried to call them, but got no answer. Eventually we saw someone walking around inside and tried calling them over to ask them what was going on. Apparently, they were closed, and had been since noon.

This completely threw our moving plans into chaos, and since our computers were already packed up and moved to the new place, where we didn't have an internet connection, we had to call our friends to research another place to rent a moving van, and ended up stopping by a UHaul in San Jose.

What kind of a place is only open for 3 hours in the mornings, and closed the rest of the day -- especially without informing their customers of this? Saying "any time is fine" when you're open for such a short amount of time? There weren't even any business hours posted on the outside of the gate to let us know that's the reason we couldn't get in to the parking lot. We were left wandering outside for 15 to 20 minutes, puzzling over where the entrance to this place was supposed to be.

I rented a minivan from a national rental car company, and proceeded to get raked (I'd like to used another term that sounds similar) with the rates they offered.  At the last minute, our planned trip to Napa included two more people that just couldn't be accommodated in the minivan.  I returned the van to the airport 32 minutes after the 24 hour period and was charged for a FULL DAY.

ANYWAY, my sister called around and we found out that Budget in Foster City offers more than just truck rentals.  They offer cars and passenger vans as well.  DREW (I believe he is the owner/operator) gave my sister a very reasonable quote over the phone, honored that quote, was very pleasant to deal with and didn't produce any funny business or hidden fees.  Would definitely do business with Budget again...keep up the good work Drew :)

After renting a truck in Los Angeles to move to SF, we pulled into the parking lot around 9 pm Sunday night: one person driving the truck, another person driving a car for the return trip.  After dropping off the truck paperwork, we drove toward the gate, only to have it close in front of us, too fast to safely pass through.  Pulling right up to the gate didn't make it open, and there was no obvious way to open it.  Budget roadside assistance didn't answer even after 15 minutes on hold.  The solution turned out to be: back away from the gate until it starts to open.  Then drive forward, and you will have enough time because the gate has to open all the way before it can start closing.  The truck itself was from the "West LA Trailer/Budget Truck Rental location at 11700 Santa Monica).  It was scratched up, had a banged up front bumper, smelled of cockroaches in the back, and was provided with a filthy windshield and a gas needle just shy of the full mark (i.e., maybe 1-2 gallons short).  Other than that, it worked fine, and if we hadn't gotten trapped dropping it off, it would have been worth 3 stars.  Also, we wanted to rent a cargo van instead, but nobody will rent those for one-way trips.

Clean trucks but I'd either go whole hog and get Hengehold, or stick with el cheapo U-Haul.

I rented a SUV from this location recently and had a wonderful experience dealing with Drew. He is very upfront and gave me a great deal which is far cheaper than other rental companies. Pick up and drop off was easy. Would definitely come back here again and recommend it

I can't say enough good things about Budget Truck Rental of Foster City!  We rented moving trucks for our Burning Man camp for four years running from them.  The owner is a former Burner and loves to rent to other Burners.  They even called us up this year to ask if we wanted a truck for the event.  Too bad our camp is not in-force this year,  but the owners tells me 20% off rentals to any burning man camp, just identify yourself!  Well worth the drive down the penninsula.  (Of course, in the spirit of the event don't forget to thoroughly clean your truck before returning it. ; )
