Originally, I had rezzies to rent from U-Haul, but after reading an article in the LA Times about their unreliable maintenance and safety standards, I ended up booking with Budget, especially since it ended up being cheaper with a 10% discount from http://moving.com. Now, I regret it.
Reservation Problems
I first made reservations online with the 10% discount from http://moving.com. But, since I never received an email confirmation, I called the customer service number to confirm my reservations. Good thing, because they had no record of my online reservation.
The customer service rep was quick and efficient. He said I'd receive a confirmation email, but I didn't get nothing for over a week. So, I had to call AGAIN, at which point my reservation was confirmed, even though I never received any email confirmation.
Super SLOW Pick-Up
Pick up in Davis, CA was horribly slow. Although I can't say exactly how long, I would estimate about 1/2 hour. Plus, the guy made horrible, dry humor jokes that just weren't funny at 10 am. Actually, they wouldn't be funny at any time of the day.
As for the truck itself, it was just fine.
Drop Off Nightmare
Drop off was a big headache. I was scheduled to drop off in Millbrae, but I saw a closer drop off in Pacifica. I had to call everywhere to change my drop off to Pacifica.
First, I called the Davis office. He said I had to call the main number to change. I called them and they told me that I had to call where I was going to drop off. I called the drop off place in Millbrae and they told me I had to call the pick up place! So, I called him back and he changed it begrudgingly.
I doubt I'll need a rental truck again, but if I do. I might have to rent Penske since U-Haul is apparently dangerous and Budget made me super cranky!
