I am a little vain at times and constantly frustrated by my hair. I have cow-licks a plenty and they give me fits. Over the years I have tried to find a barber that can give me a good cut and repeat it. I have, at times, delighted in a cut then received something totally different when I go back. Consistency has been an issue. Other times, I just get a bad cut and move on. Having given up, I had settled on a so-so barber in West Seattle for the last year. Well, he suddenly retired putting me back on the hunt. The guy who took over his shop does not keep it clean, re-used comb and unclean clippers on me, did a hack job, and cut each of my ears once. Needless to say I was not going back.
After a lot of searching, I had found a couple other places with good reviews on Yelp. I wanted to give them a try, but they were not open on Sundays, so I "settled" for a trial at Budget Cuts. I am super-pleased with the experience. I walked in and was seated within 3 minutes by Na, a feisty asian gal from England. She cut my hair, seriously, in like 5 minutes tops. And it's the best cut I've had in years. I remarked at the speed and she said she was actually going slow on purpose, because some people think a fast cut equates to a poor job and/or not getting what you paid for. Well, that isn't me! Time is valuable! Moreover, a great haircut is irreplaceable. I'm going back in another 4 weeks or so. If this experience is consistent, I'll never go anywhere else. I hope my search is over! -

I had been growing my hair out for the past year but I needed to get the split ends cut. So, after reading the reviews on here, I felt confident enough to go in and get my hair trimmed. Big mistake.
I started out with hair down about 8 inches below my shoulders. I asked her for about 2 inches off the ends, specified she NOT make it short, and maybe a couple layers to make it a little more fun. She showed me a point on the hair that I was comfortable with, and I sat back and let her do her thing.
Before I knew it my hair was being chopped off to a point just barely brushing my shoulders. I saw it in the mirror and I couldn't help myself, I started crying. I tried to explain to the woman why I was so upset and she tried to reassure me that it was going to look okay, so I sat back down, and figured it was already butchered, might as well let her finish. I was still upset and trying to not cry anymore, but when I got out of the chair, I was devastated.
The woman who was in charge saw me crying and came over and tried to rectify the situation. They were very nice about it, and they comped my haircut and gave me a free set of hair products, but that doesn't erase a bad experience or put the hair back on my head.
I KNOW it is just hair, and I KNOW it'll grow back, but there isn't even enough hair left to go to another salon to get it fixed. I started out with long and very nice hair, and now I have barely enough to put into a ponytail. I appreciate their efforts to make amends for this but I will never be going back. -

I am taking one star because they cut 3 inches too much off today. I know that hair is hair and it grows back but c'mon. You gotta respect what the customer asks for (2 inches, not 5).

I went in for a trim, and being a bit of a haircut-phobe, I was cautious as usual as I told the stylist my wishes. She showed me the length of each cut she was going to make to have me approve it, and periodically showed me how it was shaping up with the hand mirror.
I was VERY pleased with the result, as was my best friend who got a cut at the same time. Great price, friendly people, and a nice shop. I think I've found my new regular haircut place! -

I took my 2 yr. old daughter there to get a bang trim. It was our first visit.
The stylist Jayme did a great job working with a 2 yr. old! She recommend that all the hair get a minimal trim which turned out great.
Great price and nice shop!
thanks -

Listen up Seattle!
I went into Budget Cuts and was greeted with happy smiles from every person in the place. The salon is nice and open, and its an extremely relaxing atmosphere. I never really realized how much I disliked getting led behind the front desk to "the chair" ...and how the person ushering me to "sit" and "stay" kinda made me feel like I was an annoyance and less of a person and more just part of some robotic process they went though each day ....NOT the case at Budget Cuts!
I always feel welcomed and the employees enjoy your company and appreciate that you have chosen to come there. Oh, and I guess I should say that I've been SO happy with my cuts! They listen to you and take a moment to understand what your looking for and will give you idea's if your looking for a change from the norm. They are extremely quick too - and not like assembly line quick - just REALLY good hair stylin' guru's! I always leave feeling excellent about my new "doo" and their cut & color prices are SUPER easy on the wallet!!!
Bottom line.....GREAT place, GREAT people, GREAT cuts, GREAT prices! -

So I got to Budget cuts five minutes prior to closing and a woman cut my hair in like five minutes and it was one of the best cuts I ever had. Great service and I was impressed as W. Seattle has some really crappy barber shops and luckily this place ain't one of them B.

Budget Cuts is the best little gem I've found in a long time!
I have very curly hair, and have colored my own hair for decades, so a month ago, when I got sick and couldn't do it myself, I turned to a nationally franchised salon near my home. The woman at that salon assured me she knew exactly what I wanted. What I got was a brassy looking color that was totally wrong for my complexion and a cut that was uneven and the complete opposite of what I asked for. So.... I went on a search to find someone who could fix this mess.
After reading Yelp reviews for Budget Cuts I decided to give them a try, and am I ever glad I did. Kristen, the manager, knew immediately what was wrong with the color, and how to fix it. She also could see within seconds that the person who had cut my hair clearly had no understanding of naturally curly hair. Kristen listened very carefully, then explained the problems and optional solutions to me in detail. Her professionalism and passion for excellence even overcame my cringing at her constant use of "darlin'" and "sweatheart" (and that's saying a lot).
She set to work and in short order my hair looked great. This is probably the best cut I've ever had. Three days later, I'm still looking in the mirror thinking I look kinda cute. I am now more than a fan... I am a new, regular customer. -

I like budget cuts. My haircut here was fine, the people here are nice, the cuts are cheaper, and they take cards so i don't have to drive around looking for cash for my barber.
I'm in. -

Took my 7 year old for haircut. As it happens they were engaged in a big push for business today, complete with sign wavers and free snacks. We were also pleasantly surprised to discover that all haircuts today were $7.
Our stylist was communicative and responsive to direction, if a little rough and in a hurry. The place is in a brand new building and the shop is clean, bright and spanking new. The haircut is great and we appreciated the outreach and friendly service we got. We will definitely go back to Budget Cuts for our next haircut. -

After trying a few Salon's through out West Seattle over the past 5 years I couldn't find the right place for my haircut or color..All the Salons ranged from dollar wise high end to mid range with good reviews. I have been treking over to Magnolia to see my prior hair stylist. I finally read a few reviews and seeminlgly saw a pattern in good reviews for "Tram" at Budget cuts on California Ave. I decided to give it a try. First impressions were it was a very large Salon.
Tram the owner is sweet and works very hard..She cut and colored my hair perfect with in an hour... at last I felt I had found the perfect fit. I highly recommend Budget cuts. -

I have been to this place 3 times now and each time it has not been a good experience. They treat you like you are bothering them to cut your hair. They do not offer you a rinse or do they offer to style your hair when they are finished. Needless to say I will not be going here again.

The best. Nice, cheap, and talented.
I'm reluctant to give reviews to places I really really like because I don't want it to get too busy for me to enjoy it. It's a dangerous dance. I feel like the same silence that makes the lines shorter might also bankrupt the business. With that, I wholeheartedly support Budget Cuts.
It's all a very nice story, from what I remember reading on the West Seattle Blog when they opened last year. To paraphrase, the owner was running a small salon somewhere without much foot traffic. One of their regular customers thought it a shame that she wasn't more successful, so he/she offered to sponsor a shop in West Seattle. Budget Cuts was born. Awesome name, right?
To be honest, the service is nothing special. It is, however, consistently completely pleasant. I've never had a bad experience. I hate paying for a haircut with cheap plastic clippers that they sell at Fred Meyer, and, the one time they pulled them out, I asked for metal clippers and they pleasantly obliged. Buzz cuts are $10, and they give you a punch card where every 10th visit is free. I don't take the punch card, their haircuts are cheap enough already.
They're open late, they're really nice, they're really cheap, they don't mess around. My whole family goes there, Mom, Dad, 2-year-old, with no complaints. I've seen them save a teenage girl from a Clairol dye-job experiment gone bad, for $25. Tonight, there was a Dad and his tiny son both getting haircuts, and an old lady getting her hair dyed, and they told me about an awesome Asian buffet in Renton. We were talking about the buffet, and they ran my card without asking for a tip. "We'll just get it from you next time." You can't lose with this place.
Bottom Line: Please do go, just not when I'm planning to be there. -

This salon is awesome!! My daughter took it upon herself to add some purple streaks to her hair. Well, lets just say bad choice with an even worse execution. Budget Cuts went above and beyond to lift the color and spent an enormous amount of time. Got most if it out. WOW. Amazing service and great people. And did I mention the amazing price??? BTW Kristen ROCKS!!

My regular stylist couldn't take me and my daughter had been here a few weeks ago and had Kristin and loved the job that she did. So, I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. For a $16.95 haircut, I could not believe what a great job she did! Also, got my eyebrows waxed for $8.00. I liked the fact that she really listened to me. I observed another haircut and actually complimented the lady on how well the haircut suited her.
Big problem, couldn't post it on facebook because my stylist is a friend. That's a dilemma for another day! I will be going back. Love my new style. -
Review from Sara S.
After visiting this shop, I wondered: "Why do women choose to pay $50-100 for a haircut?" I am baffled that I was once this woman. Why pay so much when you can have Na cut your hair for $14.95, no fuss no muss??
Let's back up:
-I desperately needed a haircut, and couldn't get into Vain for at least a few weeks. The ends of my hair were screaming bloody murder every time I used a blow dryer.
-So one desperate Hump Day, I called Budget Cuts and asked if they do long hair: "Yes, oh yes, all kinds of hair" was the response. And they don't take appointments, they want walk-ins!! Easy.
-I waited about 5 min. while my stylist (Na) finished up with a young man. I noticed the store was very clean, stylish, mid-sized (not small) with large window walls in the front and back. I also noticed there were both young and older people getting their hair done.
-Na was wonderful. She cut my hair without washing (faster! YAY!) and did exactly what I asked for - more than a trim, not too much. (Fellow ladies with long hair know how important the length is, especially if you're trying to grow it out like I am. I envision crazy waist-length hippie hair someday.. okay, probably not that far.)
I was in and out in less than a half hour with a healthier head of hair (dayum that's a lot of h's). Before I left, however, I heard Na and another stylist talking about my hair in low undertones: gorgeous, but definite splittage. (Although worried about the damage they discussed, I felt quite pleased hearing them give my hair a compliment.) They recommended the Joico K-Pak hair care system, on sale. It would repair some of the damage to my hair. On a whim, I bought it, and my colorist at Vain is fully supportive of that brand for its purpose!! Cool.
All in all, Budget Cuts is my new haircut salon. Low price, great service. -

We took our one-year-old here for a short haircut. There were no fancy frills that you get for a $25 kid haircut place, but the stylist was great with him, the service was efficient, and the price was right. We'll be back.

Brought my son in here for his hair cut and read great reviews so decided to get mine as well. I have medium length hair with layers and bangs and have been going to the same stylist downtown for five years. I needed a trim all over and the idea of $14.95 for this was appealing. I'm not disappointed in the least. I was a bit nervous about getting the cut here at first, but glad I did. No fancy head massage or style done at the end, which is fine with me. Just a great haircut for a third of the price I usually pay. His cut was great too, and I got 25% off on shampoo and conditioner. We will be back for sure! After ten cuts you get one free!

Tram is a genuinely sweet person who cares about her customers. She did an amazing job coloring and highlighting my hair. She even gave me her own fresh coconut juice to drink! I would definately return to her again and again.
