oh, man, i remember buying bikes from buddy as a kid back in the 70s. pretty much EVERYONE in the area did. i always wanted a schwinn, but my dad would get me a ross instead. i had no clue he was around till such a late date. i'm sad now that i never went to visit him as an adult.

CLOSED CLOSED CLOSED!!!!!!
Argh. They were so nice to me. Sometimes when the job was very small like tightening a knot or just a squirt of lubricant, they would do it for me for free. Well, I guess that's why they're closed!!! Can't be too generous in this economy. How sad! Nice guys finish last :( -

BUDDY'S SCHWINN BICYCLE at PARSONS BLVD. DOES NOT rent bicycles and NEVER HAVE!!! All the postings and maps that say they do are wrong. I went there today, and they were surprised to hear that the books, internet, and maps said they do. Don't go there if you want to rent a bike. Go there if you want to buy one or fix one.

I bring all 5 of the families bikes here to fix. Talk to the guy that fixes the bikes. He is a wealth of information. I inquired about buying a new bike and he asked me many questions and gave me some real answers. He gave me the truth and didn't try to sell me a super expensive bike. In the end I stayed with my current bike and havent had problm since it was repaired.

The store closed after fifty (50) years at the same location on Parsons Blvd. (near the old Parsons Movie Theater, long gone) because Buddy (the owner) died suddenly of a heart attack several months ago. The very capable head repair guy (Asian fellow; forgot his name) reportedly wasn't interested in continuing the business and staying in NY and instead left for Arizona. Buddy could be a bit cranky at times (especially when kids were running helter-skelter around the place, e.g. there's a big sign in the window: "No Skateboards!") but the service and skills were excellent. A NYC institution that will be missed.
